SoundTrackPro and FCP4.5

Anybody else using this combo?
Any tips on how to integrate these two, besides simply setting ST as the external audio editor? Am I missing any clever ways to use them both on the same project?
Thanks!

Okay, I should back up a bit.....I only have QT7 (full) purchased for one machine so far....for testing purposes. I have been testing this on a production G5 (Tiger) with a Decklink Extreme card. For production purposes, we normally capture with the Decklink. For my tests however, I have been capturing with QT7, using the DL inputs, Decklink 8-bit uncompressed codec. I then try to drag that video onto the FCP v5.0 timeline. No go.
The Xserve does not have a DL card in it. It uses the Canopus SDI playback/capture FW unit. The Xserve would have to use the DV codec for the Canopus
Either way, I would think as long as I'm using either a Canopus DV codec, or the Blackmagic 8-bit codec, it should be importable into FCP.
All the news editors, which this video would ultimatly be edited on, are equipped with the DL-SP cards, and FCP v4.5 using DV capture codec. What am I missing here
Thanks for all replies so far.

  • New Install of Tiger and FCP4 HD

I did a total reinstall with TIGER.
FCP4, with the HD upgrade was in my old system.
Now I am loading all my software into the new system, Except that my Mac will not let me "install" the HD upgrade. The pop up wind says "make sure FCP" is in the Apps. folder. FCp is in the Apps Folder. Thanks to Help from this forum I was able to download a dmg. of the FCP 4.5Hd upgrade, it was also suggested that I repair and verify perms. I also went thru
'Terminal" and did the "binding". Still I get the dialog box saying hat FCP must be in the Apps Folder.
Anyone with any ideas, it sure would be appreciated

    Dallas,
It is good protocol to keep all your posts relating to your problem together. If you do so, things will work better for two reasons.
First, those that have an inclination to help can follow the complete thread of the problem statement, what has been suggested (in the words of the helper), what has worked and what has not. You will not get your problem solved any faster by breaking things up.
Second, those who are looking for answers for their own problems are more likely to find a completed thread with a real solution.

  • Canon FS 100 and FCP4.5

    Hi,
I'm teaching Media arts with a lab full of emacs running fcp 4.5, and am going to get some upgraded computers in about another year, but for now I have an opportunity to get some camcorders that capture to a memory card. I would love to get rid of the mini dv tapes. The cameras are FS100 by canon. Will they work as well as the camcorders that use the firewire ports? Can I just use a card reader to capture the video using FCP or do I have to use some other software?
    Thanks

Well, I googled and googled and cannot for the life of me find out what format that camera records. 640x480 on SD cards is all I can find. FCP 4.5 is VERY old, and this camera is pretty new. Older versions of FCP really cannot work with newer cameras. FCP 4.5 can only capture from TAPED formats...not tapeless. As tapeless hadn't been invented when FCP 4.5 was out.
But I wish I knew what format it shot.

  • QT7 Recording and FCP4.5/5.0

I'm attempting to record a/v using QT7.x with a Decklink SP card. I wanting to then immediatly pull this video into FCP, either v4.5 or v5.0, depending on which edit suite I choose.
However, the QT7 recorded video either cannot be loaded into FCP, or needs to be rendered, which takes quite a while for a 30 minute show.
How can I make QT7 record a compatible a/v file that will load, and not have to be rendered, within FCP?
    Thanks,

  • FCP, soundtrackpro and 5.1 ssound

    ok here is my problem.
I have an apple pro res 4:2:2 with 5.1 audio in FCP.
I select the audio region, right click and send them to soundtrack pro as audio region.
In soundtrack pro I select all the chanels open them in the edit window, aplly some time stretch and click ok!
Then soundtrack pro tell me: The rendered files can´t be written..?
Scratch disk and such are set right!
Do anybody know something about this problem??
Thank you everybody for your help!!!

I'd like to use a quicktime movie file from an intel Mac that has FCP v 5.1.4. < </div>
Not if it's just the QT file you're using. Even if your source is using a newer version of QT than you are, you should still be able to open the QT file. However, he may be using a hardware-specific codec you do not have at your disposal.
The FCP file? No, you'll need to upgrade or get yoru source to give you XML.

  • LT graphics are greyed out and will not load into FCP4.5

    Hello All,
We have LT1.2 and FCP4.5 and everytime we create a text graphic in LT we have to render a QT movie or FCP does not see the file when using import file in FCP.
The .ipr files are greyed out and therefore they will not import into FCP.
Thanks for any ideas. I did here one idea about re-installing FCP and LT.
    Alex

No. I doubt it has anything to do with sequence settings. That has happened to me on occasion but not for quite a long time. I was able to drag and drop the file into FCP when that happened.
I don't remember it happening since the last update or two.

  • AGP Graphics cards and Final Cut Pro...?

    Hello everyone,
I just received a new computer today. Dual G5...It comes with the PCI Graphics Card. My old computer was a G5 as well but had a AGP Graphics Card. I reinstalled FCP4 today and tried to use it, but it says that the AGP Graphics card is missing. Do I need a AGP Graphics Card to run FCP4? And if so, why wouldn't the new computers come with one? I mean it seems silly that you can go and get a brand new G5 and FCP4 and not have it work. Anyone?

    #29: Need AGP Graphics card
    Shane's Stock Answer #29
    You either need to either:
    1) use the following hack -
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/finalcut_pro_on_oldmacs.html
    or
    2) Upgrade to FCP 5

  • 10.4.9 and FCP is apple going to do something about it?

Q: What is Apple saying about this mess ? It is totally not acceptable to have this two apps not working with each other when both are apple made...
    D

Well my capturing was completely wrecked when recording to my internal drive. Random video drop out and audio drop out, total desyncing. In the end I capture three times, and pasted bits together to try and create a perfect unbroken sequence (which finally worked). Doing this and resyncing it all took hours, just for a 3-min video interview.
So I don't know why Apple is talking about Firewire because OSX.4.9 and FCP4.5 didn't work for me full stop.
I have since upgraded to FCP5.
I don't know if this is a possible solution, but you could try capturing with Vidi - http://www.mitzpettel.com/software/vidi.php - (it's free) if you don't want to downgrade your OS and can't upgrade to FCP5. The only disadvantage is that Vidi doesn't capture FCP-ready (ie no rendering needed) .movs, but you can quickly convert its files with StreamClip to a suitable .mov format. Vidi is also great when FCP is being fussy about broken time code, and you just want to force it to take the media anyway.

  • Compressor and IDVD imports, etc.

Hi Again, just the dumb newbie. But I've been READING the manual(s) and at least the help/manual on Compressor...because I did something that did not seem to work, went back and tried to fix it. A couple of things happened:
I imported a little 15 minute promo I made on Applied Magic Screenplay, via copy from a DVD. I jazzed up the intro and menu and burned an iDVD. Fine. Now I have to change a "tinny" audio portion, and decided to import it into FCP.
BAM went right in...but when I tried to look at it in the timeline, it said (undrendered file) SO...I started to render "all". It said it would take about an HOUR to do this.
SO I read the MANUAL. It says that I was (possibly, I haven't a clue) rendering uncompressed media, and that it KILLS disc space. So I READ THE HELP on compressor. WHich says it transcodes multiple format media files (of all types) for use in FCP. SO I cranked up compressor, added the same file and preset the encoding for MPEG-2DVD. ( Figureing MPEG 4 wold take longer). It took over an hour to transcode this.
SO re-opened FCP, and imported the file. It took several minutes to load it (saw the painted wheel forever), and then when I went to drop it into the timeline...>FCP unexpectedly QUIT.
I re-opened, and of course the file was not there (not saved in FCP)/ HOWEVER, when I went to look at that original iDVD thing I made...a ".mov" file, NOW I can see it and work with it in the timeline?
What did I do wrong here? Or better yet...how the **** did I fix that without rendering it as the program requested? THE MANUAL did say that FCP supports any file created on my computer, So I was shocked about having to render at all.
Any insight to this (for my learning purpose mostly) would be greatly appreciated!!! Cap'n? Input PLEAZZZ.
    Thanks again
    MW

Thanks for the encouraging words. With that...to continue.
SO...this morning, I strectched, woke up and opened the project and the "Saved all" files I supposedly saved...were not there. The original .mov was.
SO, the manuals (for compressor) do give detailed descriptions of what the different compression titles are used for. And as I was planning on making DVD's that play continuously in our theater, I thought that compress to MPEG2 was best.
SO, I agian went and imported the compressed file into FCP and BANG, quit. Just too much for it to handle? As I am importing this file, I don't understand the purpose of export settings (yet), or why FCP is shutting down when the manuals BRAG that FCP will fluidly with compressor files. I'm just baffled, that's all.
I guess it was "iMovie" that I made the movie in..."iDVD" that I authored the DVD in.
So was I correct in assuming that FCP wants me to render this imovie (.mov) as an uncompressed file? Regarding compressor, There are so many choices, granted, they are well explained in the manual, but I just don't know which one to use in compressor to make this silly 15minute promo DVD.
Again, your patience and knowledge/experience are all greatly appreciated!
Just a bit about me: I bought an Appl ied Mag ic screenplay about 4 years ago because i was starting a business and wanted a video done. After getting prices, I figured I could by cameras, booms, support equipment an expensive hooker AND a stand alone NLE for the price....and did just that (sans hooker).
SO i've been spoiled by a very easy system (applied Mag) but found as I do more with it, that it really is limited as to what I want it can do (like high quaility audio adjustment, better color correction, critical splices/sync, etc.). That's why I bought the G5 and am trying out AXDV and FCP4.5.
I really enjoy editing, feel that for someone who is self taught I've done some pretty fun stuff, and look forward to learning more! Again, you guys are great and I for one am thankful for your help.

  • Cannot capture PAL footage in FCP4.5 or FCP5.0.4

I have a last-minute project which was shot on PAL. Tried to capture but there was no video coming thru the FireWire. Tried both FCP5 on my 17" PB and FCP4.5 on my G4 and got no video.
Also opened up old FCP3 PAL project on the G4 which handled many PAL projects and went to the L & C window, but again it saw no video. Would this have anything to do with the OS? Or QuickTime (I have QT7 Pro on 17" PB and
    QT6.5.2 Pro on G4)?
Anyone else experiencing similar problems? Please help.

Forgot to add that I tried trashing QT703 Receipts package (I'm on QT704) but it didn't seem to help.
I never had problems with PAL projects before. What could be wrong? Please help

  • Trouble Digitizing - video stops for a sec then starts again

Hello - I am having a problem digitizing from miniDV. I am using Final Cut Pro HD 4.5
When I am digitizing footage, the video will stop while the audio continues and then the video will pick back up again. The digitized footage reflects this problem also.
I have tried switching firewire cables and switching miniDV cameras that I use to import the footage. It seems to happen no matter what I try. Any idea???
    Thanks.

If you have upgraded to 10.4.9, there is a glitch with that OS and FCP4.5
The problem has to do with Spotlight trying to index the capture scratch folder during capture and causing issues. The solution is to hide the capture scratch from searchlight.
Do a quick search here for "10.4.9 4.5 Spotlight" and more specific directions should be available.

  • Cannot open mp3 file

    Hi,
I got a mp3 file which i recorded recently. When i try to open it in soundtrack pro i get an error "Can't open file "xxxxx". When i open it with Quicktime Player it starts playing. I guess that during the recording there was an error at the end so the file is not correctly closed and the end of the file is corrupt.
Is there a way to fix that?
    Thanks
    Daniel

I also experienced this problem, not being able to open mp3 files in soundtrackpro and eventually discovered that the problem lay with the source of the file.
If I tried to open an mp3 file on an external hard drive I got the error message, when I transferred the same file to the default Soundtrack pro folder on my macpro’s internal hard drive, it opened without any problem at all.
I wonder if the problem is related to the relatively slower access speed when accessing the plug in external hard drive ?
    Hope this helps.

  • Reconnecting Audio Files after Media Manager

Please forgive me if this has been covered before, but I'm not seeing a specific answer to the issue I'm having. I recently decided to do some cleanup on my machine, and used Media Manager to backup a project. When I reopened that project a TON of the files were no longer connected, and I've had to dig through the computer and reconnect them one at a time. The issue I am having now is with the audio files that exist in FCP as STAP files. I can find the stap files, but they are no reconnecting properly. I've tried to just simply re-render the audio, but it just comes out blank. Here is a screen capture of what I'm seeing. http://www.moorecreativedesign.com/FCP_Capture.jpg - Also If I try to right-click and "open in editor" it gives me an Unknown File error.
    Message was edited by: jesmo71

I think the problem is that the .STAP file are SoundTrackPro project files, which look for the original audio files.
But I guess you removed them or at least removed the disc they are on.
    That's why they render empty.
Media Manager doens't work on SoundtrackPro files (or Motion files for that matter). The proper way to handle these situations is
either export selfcontained movies from Motion, or audiofiles from SoundtrackPro and edit those in your timeline and THEN do the Media Manager,
or backup your Motion Projects and SoundtrackPro projects with all their assets along with the Media Management from FCP.
A nice [feauture request|http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html] would be to have Media Managaer handle all assets from the Final Cut Studio Suite.

  • Leary of conflicts from QT7

Now in my second phase of questions about what i need...
I am using FCP 4 but think I want to upgrade QT7 pro because i want to use h.264 because i'm after good quality Web video.
Do i therefore have to upgrade to 10.4 to use QT7 and thus have h.264 in the QT drop down menu or does that only work in hd?
Can someone please share if this will work with FCP 4? Are there conflicts with QT7 and FCP4?
    Thanks, any help appreciated...
    jb

QT 7 will work with 10.3.9 but there have been a number of problems reported. It is generally recommended that you run 10.4 with QT7. They are made to work together.
Still, to make the update as painless as possible:
    1. Make sure you have a clean OS. Run Repair Permissions/ Repair Disk from disk utilities on all your computers disks.
    2. Run diskwarrior from alsoft to repair any directory and disk anomalies.
    3. download the Quicktime update
    4. run the installer
    5. Repair permissions
    6. Reboot
The QT6 Pro key does not work with QT7. You will need to pay for the v7 key if you want Pro functionality.
Do the Free update to FCP4.5 HD before you do the QT7 update.
    cheers

hi does anyone know if it is possible to load a new unopened Final Cut Pro HD version 4.5 dated 2004 onto a macbook pro dated 2010. i receive error message
    Galtstal missing!

Well, you're in the FCP X forum and you should post this question in the Final Cut Studio Forum here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_stud io
But I can tell you that your MBP has an Intel processor and FCP4.5 was designed to run Power PC machines. So, unfortunately, you can't.
You can verify that on the FCS forum.
    Good luck.
