Soundtracks not showing up in iPod artist

It seems I've tried EVEYTHING under the sun for this. I have multiple soundtracks and none of the songs show up under the Artist section of my ipod touch. I can see this in the Album section. I've edited Artist, Album Artist, checked and uncheck Compilation and all tracks individually and together.
It edits it on the itunes screen on my laptop, the ipod does it's little syncing loading symbol but nothing changes on the ipod. I even edited the album name which changed on the computer screen but on the ipod it still says the old album name. Example: Moulin Rouge soundtrack would be titled as "Moulin Rouge (2001) ranamed it to just Moulin Rouge. On the computer it says Moulin Rouge. One the ipod it sayd Moulin Rouge (2001).
So not only is nothing showing up in the artist section (even if I make every song artist Moulin Rouge Cast) the album name isn't even changing. I'm super organized with my media and this is frustrating me to no end.

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. If you are using iTunes 8, in the the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod

When I sync iphone to itunes, why do my soundtracks not show as albums but via artist?  IE: Pulp Fiction has 16 songs by different artists.  In itunes I can pull up pulp fiction and play the 16 songs.  In iphone sync the 16 songs are seperate and listed by Al Green, cowboy junkies etc... How to fix this so the ipod part of my iphone will show & play the soundtracks as albums... thanks.

What is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If you have chosen selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres - if Pulp Fiction is available under the Albums section to be selected as an Album to be transferred to your iPhone, is it selected?
If so, when you select Albums via the iPod on your iPhone, the album is not available there to select?
You can always create an iTunes playlist with these songs placing the songs in your preferred order.

  • Ipod Classic Not showing some of the artists

My ipod 80 gig is not showing an artist on my artist list but if you go under albums its there.... any ideas why

Two things often contribute to this.
One is that some songs might be tagged as Part Of A Compilation (see the Get Info on those songs/albums) in which case they will not show up under the artist.
Second, is that an artist needs at least two different Albums identified for their songs to all list under the artist. In other words, if you import a CD with album name then add a handful of misc songs without album names associated, those handful will not show up under the artist name.
But add an album name to at least one of those handful of misc. songs and then ALL of the songs should show up under the artist.
You don't have to do it for all of them, just enough to have two different albums identified with the artist. But in general, it is a good idea to make sure your tunes have Song name, artist name, and album name associated with them as a minimum.

  • Artists not showing up in iPod unless it's connected to computer

My video iPod, whether synced or not with my Mac, refuses to show certain artists when it's not plugged into the computer.
For instance, if I put a Bob Dylan CD into iTunes, then update my iPod (either by having it synched or else by manually dragging it over), it will show up in the iPod when I look at the iPod contents on the computer, in iTunes, but when I unhook the iPod and go to Artists, suddenly there won't be a Bob Dylan (or a Dylan, Bob) at all. I can get to the music if I go to Album, but the iPod refuses to show me the artist, even though I know the music is there.
The Get Info has all the right information in the right categories, the iPod says it has all the artists on there when it's in iTunes, but when not actually plugged into the computer and viewed through iTunes, the iPod will refuse to show me certain artists, like they don't exist. Even though the music is there.
    Why?
    Thanks!

Two things might contribute to this especially since iTunes shows things a bit different than how the iPod will show it when not connected to iTunes...

  • All of my songs do not show up in the "Artist" list of my iPod Video

I can't figure this out and see no reference to it anywhere. On my iPod I have roughly 4,000 songs. Occassionally I think of a song I want to hear by a particular artist and when I to to Music>Artist>whoever, not ALL of their songs on my iPod will show up in the list... If I know the name of the song and go to Music>Songs>whatever, the song will be there and when I start it playing all of the info shows up as expected. If, in iTunes, I look at the "info" for the particular song (by right clicking on the song) everything appears normal and just like the other songs that DO show up. What is happening here??? It's frustrating to have to scroll through all those song titles to find one that could easily have been pulled up by the artist's name.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

This is a small...."Bug" I guess you could call it, in the ipods software where if you have songs by one artist and none of them have a album listed with them, they do not show up under "Artist".
I forgot the exact workaround, but I think its something like if you give one song by the artist a album name (By rightclicking it in iTUnes, hitting get info and selecting the info tab) all the rest of the songs will now appear under artist on the ipod

  • 5th gen ipod not showing all songs for artists....

I just updated to 1.1 about a week ago, so i am not sure if this issue was present in 1.0 or not.
when looking at the artist list on my ipod, i noticed that if I go into a artist and that artist has only one album listed, it goes directly into that album list. Therefore not showing your other songs that you may have by the same artist because dont have the album name. Has anyone else had this issue??

  • Music Podcasts - Artists Not Showing Up On Ipod

So my old beater ipod finally disappeared and I got a 80g ipod classic, and there appears to be an "improvement" that eliminates my ability to integrate my music podcasts. On my older ipod if I got, for example, a podcast from KCRW of a song by M. Ward, I could change the artist on itunes in the info section to "M. Ward" and it would then show up on my ipod under "M. Ward." On my new ipod, the only way I can find that podcast (which is just a song) is by searching for M. Ward - not very convenient. Seems kind of like itunes and the ipod are becoming like MS word, over engineered and unhelpfully paternalistic. Anyone have ideas for a work around? cheers, stu

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.
Providing the spelling for the artists is exactly the same of course.

  • Artists not showing up on iPod Classic?

I have 3 iPod Classics. 2 of them are Silver and the other one is Black.
All 3 iPods are being synched with the same iTunes Library on the same computer.
My problem is, the Black iPod Classic seems to pick up everything from the sync (songs, artists, albums, genres, etc.) but the Silver ones are picking up everything but the Artists. Every time I go to the Artist Menu on the iPods, it tells me no Artists were found.
Anyone have any similar troubles? and any ideas how I might be able to fix this annoying issue?
I have already tried to Restore the iPods but it hasn't solved the issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Audiobooks not showing up in iPod tab when searching

So, I have this problem with some audiobooks. If I connect my 5th generation iPod 60GB to iTunes, it shows up as normal. I then select the iPod, and I try to search on a specific artist (Or writer if you will) in the search field on the right. But, most of my audiobooks artist does not show up, so I can select them single handedly.
I have some older audiobooks that shows up just fine, but not all the newer ones.
If I select to sync my entire Audiobook collection, or create playlists and throw the seperate audiobooks in there, they sync just fine.
I would just like to be able to select an artist in the search field and get it to sync though. Of course all of audiobooks are marked correctly with tags and mediatype.
    Any thoughts?

I think this has been covered in several posts (search under "audiobooks"). Basically, even the stuff you download from iTunes Store is not always formatted correctly for your iPod to place in the correct spot.
Downloaded books show up in iTunes under Audiobooks, but not on your iPod under the same. Close iTunes. From windows explorer, find the audiobook in your My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder and change the extension on the file from .m4p or .m4a to .m4b and then relaunch iTunes. Find the audiobook and play it for a few seconds so iTunes properly recognizes the file. Make sure that it is listed under the genre "Audiobooks" - if that genre is not available, pick custom and create it. Right-click the file and pick info, then options and make sure that the buttons for replaying from last position and skipping during mix play are selected. Re-synch and it should show up on your iPod under Music->Audiobooks.
Books that you import from CDs have to be manually configured to show up as Audiobooks - again, details can be found by searching these forums.

  • Songs not showing up in iPod. Please help!

Okay, today I noticed that there are select songs not showing up on my iPod touch.
I make playlists for all my music...and some songs will be in the playlists, and some aren't.
So when I search for the songs with artists or song name, it's actually ON my iPod and I can play it. Just not in the playlist I put it in.
So I check on iTunes to make sure they are in the playlist, and they are. And playable.
So why aren't some of the songs selectable in the playlists? They are on the iPod, but just not in the playlists. PLEASE HELP

    Anyone?

  • Songs are not showing up in IPOD (Album)

I have the 30gb video ipod and am having troubles finding specific songs which have transfered from the library to the ipod
It tends to be songs which did not have an "album" associated with the song. Rather I'll see all the songs for a specific artist whom had albums tagged but none without..
thanks for any help you can provide

Songs not showing under Artist on iPod
Two things usually contribute to this happening, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) as you have discovered, it is missing an album name. See this link to the Apple document on the subject: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. The test for this is to highlight a song you know is not appearing then from the iTunes File menu, choose Get Info and click the Info tab, if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you'll find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder, this means therefore they don't transfer over in the same way.

  • Manually synced music not showing up under the artist

When I manually add songs to my iphone 4 from my iTunes library they are not showing up on my phone under when I go to the artist.  Oddly, when I search for the song title the song will come up and it plays, and it shows the artist name correctly when it is playing.  I updated both iTunes and the phone. I've done a reset.  I've deleted the songs in question from the phone and then re-added them, only to have the same problem.
This problem doesn't happen with every song I add, but it always happens to the same songs.  When I sync the phone, I can find them in the phone window of iTunes and they're there correctly sorted by artist (and play fine)!  These songs are CD imports (not iTunes purchases).  I have "manually manage music" on, and iCoud is off.
    Thanks!

Are they marked as 'Part of a compilation' when you look at the song info on iTunes? This is quite common in some albums like soundtracks.  If yes, then you'll probably find them under 'Various Artists' in the Artist section.
You can uncheck the compilation box if you wish, that should do the trick.

  • Synced videos do not show up on iPod

Every time I sync my iPod with iTunes, although iTunes says the videos are synced, they do not show up in the Video app on the iPod.
This is a fairly new problem.  All these videos have been synced before and they all showed up just fine in the Video app, but as of late the iPod does not show them.  Searching for them yields no results.
The videos are in a compatible format and do not have an extremely high definition.  Again, I do not think the problem is with the videos, because previously I was able to view them all just fine.
I have at least 1G of memory left, 2G without syncing the videos.
I have erased and re-synced them in iTunes, to no avail.  I can play the videos on the iPod from iTunes, but not on the actual iPod device.  I'm using windows iTunes, and it is up to date.  The iPod software is up to date.  I don't want to do a restore because I've already done that multiple times for multiple issues, but if that's what I have to do, I will. It's a pretty old iPod.  I'm syncing with a third-party Duracell cable, but I really don't think that's the problem.
I'm not sure what it means, but in iTunes I have checked the option that reads, "Prefer standard definition videos".  Syncing with that option unchecked changes nothing so far as I can tell.

  • Languages: Some song titles do not show up on iPod menus

    Hi,
I have a few Thai CDs that I have uploaded to my iPod. Unfortunately, the song titles that are using Thai script do not show up in the iPod lists (they show as blank). Is there any way to correct this problem short of translating the names to English in iTunes (the Thai names display correctly in iTunes)?
    Thanks,
    Robert

The iPod does not yet support Thai (look at the tech specs). However some people have put together a hack, check here for info:

  • Audiobook that will not show up on iPod

I downloaded an audiobook that will transfer on to my iPod, but it does not show up in the "Audiobooks" section when I actually browse the iPod by itself (not via the computer).
I sent an email to the support team, got nothing but a reference to this place. Anyone know what might be the problem?
I did notice one thing -- When I checked the info of the files I saw that the genre was not set to "Audiobook" like my other ones have been. I changed it accordingly and transferred it over again, but to no avail.
Anything you can give me would be appreciated.

What causes a file to appear in the Audiobooks library of iTunes/iPod is the file type, not genre. The file type must be .aa or .m4b.
Luckily it's easy to turn .m4a (AAC) files into .m4b -- just edit the filename extension. MP3s cannot be converted directly, although you could use iTunes to convert them to AAC and then change their extension to .m4b. Full steps for turning audiobook CDs into one .m4b book are here:
