Soundworks megaworks 5.1 510d help!.

hi all
not sure if my speaker are fautly or something. when i turn the volume to 50% ish the sound get distorted/cracking sound. i have also try different soundcard & pc and still i get same result.
when i use other speakers i get no distorted/cracking sound.
my current soundcard is audigy 2 zs

If this doesn't happen on other speakers, then that must mean that your MegaWorks are messed up. If you can still send them in for repair, do so.

If you still have warranty, just call the tech support, if you don't, try opening the soundcontrol box, and lubricate the two microswitches with a little wd-40 or something like that. that might work.

  • Sony TV + Creative Soundworks Megaworks 250D 2.1 THX Speakers = HUM

I have a Sony KV29-LS60 TV. This TV has an audio out. When I have the TV connected to my Creative Soundworks Megaworks 250D 2.1 THX speakers, i can hear the sound, but there is also a loud hum coming from the speakers. When i connect my DVD player to the speakers with the same wires, there is no hum. Thus the wires are ok i think. When i unplug the antenna cable the hum remains. So the antenna cant be blamed too.
Can anybody think of a solution to this problem ?

I suspect your tv audio out grounding is at fault or even poor solder joint at the RCA to circuit board.

  • Replacement speaker cables for Cambridge soundworks megaworks THX 5.1 550

Hi i'm looking for 2 x 5 metre speaker cables for the Cambridge soundworks megaworks THX 5.1 550 has anyone got any ideas on where to get them, have check creative shop on creative web site.thanks

Also, one of the wires has packed up and I cant find any on creative's website... It is speaker to sub lead, plugs into sub with a Jack and splits into 2 different wires (black and red) to make 2 separate connections to the back of the speaker. Anyone know where they are sold (dont really fancy getting my wallet raped by PC World)?

This seems to be common amongst creative speaker sets.
I've experienced the same issue (poor build quality on the one thing that'll be used the most) with my Inspire T5900 and T7900 sets.
I don't understand why the controller needs each channel routed through it (or so it seems), and why the replacement part seems impossible to come by - coupled with a year warranty.
    Defective By Design imho.
My next set of PC speakers will be Logitech if I can't obtain spares or a datasheet to make my own.

  • MegaWorks 6.1 died, help!

    Hi,
I've had the system for almost two years now, and I went to turn it on today and it will just not work. My warranty is expired, but I really like this system and I don't feel like spending another 300 bucks in getting a new one. Any suggestions on how to find what the problem is and repair it's
    Thanks,
    Cesar

Its a badly made circuit board that is failing in all Inspire 6700 Subwoofers. Mine has just done exactly the same.
Mine is similar to this one in the link -
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/suppor...asp?thre=53427
But, i have a few more burned out. Capacitor C at the top, Resistors R0, R, and R2. Transistors Q2, Q3 and Q5.
Worst thing is, the speaker system is fantastic, pity Creative didnt recall the product after the first few failed with the same problem.

  • Hiss, hissing sound in speaker sets like the MegaWorks 550

Over the years, I noticed that my MegaWorks 550 started hissing more and more. For anyone interested, i want to share my quest to find the cause.
First of all, i looked on this forums. There were several useful posts.
    http://forums.creative.com/t5/Speake...ion/m-p/169575
    http://forums.creative.com/t5/Speake...xed/m-p/184299
Based on these, I mailed customer service for some more information. Their mails were annoyingly useless. On top of that, they actually removed above mentioned posts from their forums! Here's a small summary of the mail conversation with customer support. It's so stupid, that it's actually fun to read:
    ME:
Dear Creative, [...] my MegaWorks 550 [...] has a clearly audible hiss. [...] This hiss is also present when no inputs are connected and independent of volume level. The level of hiss is equal on all five sattelite speaker connections, even when objectively measured with an oscilloscope. [...] I know the MegaWorks 550 is farbeyond the warranty, but i am a trained technician and capable of replacing any part. Could you please give a hint as to what causes this hiss? Kind regards [...]
    CREATIVE:
[...] To reduce static or buzzing noise from speakers, avoid placing speaker cables next to computer monitors, TV, an AC adapter, or any chargers for MP3 players or cell phones, etc. These devices have a strong field, which may interfere with speakers.
    Hissing Sound http://support.creative.com/kb/showa...aspx?sid=64810 [...]
(duh, i already mentioned that it is independent of any inputs and also present with nothing connected)
    ME:
[...]Dear Creative, Thank you for your answer. I read the support solution you pointed to, and i also read about eight different threads about this on your forum, suggesting several causes. I've tested the 550 in an electromagnetic Farady cage and with no inputs attached. The hiss remains constant on each of the five outputs and independent of the volume level.
It must be a problem in the electrical circuit. Since this is a very prevalent problem, I hope there's a technician at Creative who know the cause. It would be great if they could explain which capacitors or connections typically need to be replaced or resoldered to remove the hiss.
I'm, of course, very aware that the warranty of the 550 is expired, i would just really appreciate some hints on how to fix it myself. It would be friendly to the environment, to my wallet and to your reputation! [...]

    ME:
    Dear Creative,
I would expect a €450,- speaker set like the Megaworks 550 to last longer than the three years it did before it started hissing. However, it's beyond the warranty period, so i'm not asking for any official warranty. But surely the least Creative could do, is help me fix it myself.
I just need to know which capacitors to replace to fix it, probably somewhere in the power supply. I know that a lot of sets were sent back because of the issue, so surely there is a technician from Creative that can pinpoint the cause. PLEASE!
    CREATIVE:
Thank you for getting back to us.
I'm really sorry but currently we don't provide any out of warranty repairment services.
We're unable to help you in this situation.
If you still require assistance, please reply to this email and include any previous correspondence to ensure a quick response.
    ME:
    Dear Creative,
I'm not asking for a repair service. I want to fix it myself. I know that a lot of people sent their Megaworks 550 back because of this issue, so there are people within creative who know what causes it. Please, I just need to know which capacitor to replace. I wont contact you after that, even if the repair goes wrong or anything.

Thank you for contacting Creative Labs.

We apologize if this is not accommodating your need and your cooperation in this regard is appreciated.
So... i opened the case and did some more experiments. I used a variable voltage. The hiss was indeed dependent on the voltage. Since it was not dependent on inputs or volume level and present on all five speaker outputs, i came to the following
    CONCLUSIONS:
    - the hiss is most likely caused by the final stage of the power supply unit
    - specifically: decay of one or more of the 10 capacitors in there
    - this is caused by creative using capacitors of a barely sufficient capacity (too cheap). Once they decay the become insufficient.
    - communicating with the customer service is a fun, but not very rational process
Perhaps i'll replace the capacitors. If i do, i might share pictures and keep you updated. Please respond if there's anyone out there who would appreciate that.

    Hi guys
I'm thinking of buying a PS3 (the 40Gb version) and running it on my monitor and external speaker system.
My speaker setup is the "Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks THX 2.1 250D" which has a Digital SPDIF (RCA) input, where as the PS3 outputs in Optical TOSLINK.
I'm quite the noob when it comes to this kind of stuff so i'd like to know if this setup would work and what i would need to buy in-order to get it working.
    Many many thanks!

    el_salvad,
If headset works fine with the soundcard, it sounds like the speaker is faulty. Have you try testing the speaker on another audio source or your other computer that's loaded with the Sound Blaster Live card.

  • MegaWorks 650 on an Apple "24" iMac

I Just bought a "24" iMac and I'm wondering if I can somehow use my Cambridge Soundworks MegaWorks 650 speakers that were running on my Dell. The Dell has a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 soundcard and the iMac doesn't, so what will be required to get the MegaWorks to work? Any ideas?

Well, AFAIK, macs don't come with multichannel soundcards, so you have three options, 1. Get a mac compatible external (USB/firewire) multichannel soundcard 2. Connect only the front channels of the MegaWorks to the imac headphone jack 3. Get a DDTS100 decoder and connect it to the imac with an optical cable, it will upmix stereo sound with DPLII/DTSNeo and get true surround from AC3/DTS sources.

I recently disconnected my MegaWorks system from my pc as i had another device for means of sound output,
but i have disconnected the new device and plugged back the sound input for the Megaworks but sound only comes from one speaker and you can hear a quiet humming sound from the other,
i have checked all connections and sound balance on my pc but i just do not know why only one speaker is working?
    Many Thanks

  • Replacement Volume Control

I am looking for a replacement volume control for a Creative Labs / Cambridge Soundworks MegaWorks THX 2.1 250D. I have not been able to find one on this site or the Cambridge site. Are they available for purchase anywhere? I love the speakers, but the buttons on the volume control were not very sturdy. After a little wear and tear, the clicking mechanism basically stopped working with the up and down volume buttons. I did go in a re-solder the connections and that seemed to work for a while, but now the volume will go up and down at random times and I would just like to replace the controller at this point. The connection from the controller to the subwoofer appears to be proprietary and not some standard RCA type jack. So, I guess I cannot buy a universal or generic replacement. Money is not really an issue, but I am really happy with the speakers, and it seems crazy to replace my whole speaker system when the only issue is with the volume controller. Please help!

  • How can I open CMSS for my Sound Blaster AWE64 Go

I got a Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold from my firend with no user guide and driver?CD,?and I am using Creative Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 550 5..
There is always no sound comes out from the central speaker, only 4 speakers?are working, and I kown I have to install some applications or drivers to support that ( eg. CMSS).
I cannot find any drivers or applications to support this card.
Can anyone help me about this, thanks a lot!!!

To use the cards full potential you have to use VXD drivers. But if the card has no ram expansion and you dont want to load soundfonts, u can still use wdm drivers, wich are standard in windows ME and higher.
    RejZor?wrote:
Don't you think those MegaWorks deserve something more than AWE64 ? It's like hooking a 2V Ferrari engine to oldie Fiat 500...
Youre wrong. The AWE32 and AWE64 are technically more advanced than you think. Its a old one, but not a FIAT..

  • Which 2.1 speaker system to choose?

    hi!
i'd like to invest Creative's 2.1 speaker system, but it's a bit hard to choose proper one as there're plenty of them available.
my criterions: quality and power to listen house and trance music.
    regards

If you search for quality and power then i recommend Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks THX 2.1 250D , you won`t be disappointed.
If you have good soundcard with SP/DIF coaxial output just hook it up with some Profigold or Monster digital coaxial cable and enyoj in the crystal clear sound.

Note that it can help if you search for "Cambridge MegaWorks 650" as well as "Creative MegaWorks 650". The speakers are based off of mini-HT speakers manufactured by Cambridge SoundWorks.
Cambridge SoundWorks does not have the MegaWorks 650 as they have been discontinued for the GigaWorks.
