Source compilation problems

Hi,
I'm trying to compile Solaris 8 sources. The build is failing at the time of compilation of a library.
The following error appears -
Text relocation remains referenced
against symbol offset in file
write                              0x1100      /opt/SUNWspro/SC5.0/lib/libm.a(SVID_error.o)
Also, ld fails with the error -
ld: fatal: relocations remain against allocatable but non-writable sections
Could someone let me know as to why this happens and what is it that should be done to correct this.

thanks for responding. Doesn't ant compile it? I built the webapp, thought that would be enough. I found many posts with similar problems, but nobody could explain to what refers this "cannot be resolved as a type". All the samples of tomcat work, only this one that I've copied and now want to modify doesn't and I don't understand why not. Here's the code:
