Source file missing.

The message says c:\documents and settings\my name/my documents\my pictures\adobe\digital camera\photos needs to be reconnected. I have received other messages indicating my picture file is missing. I thought I deleted it by accident but it is not in my trash file and I have not emptied my trash file. Any help to get to my pictures?

vincentrlarson,
It's genuinely heartbreaking to hear about lost files, because at one point or another, it's happened to so many of us, and photos are so valuable to us.
I default to the hope that people simply moved files around in folders, and that simply broke the links, and that the files are not lost. But of course the worse scenario is always possible.
The operating system was designed to allow peoplel to delete files. It's always the hope that people would only do this on purpose, and there are warnings along the way; Windows will warn you before deleting files, 'Are you sure you want to move this file to the recycle bin?'. Then they even stay in the recyble bin, allowing you to retrieve them if you didn't mean to delete them. But there were limits to what Starter Edition could do to interfere with file management functions in the operating system, and we were unable to augment file management with additional warnings or security, because of technical limitations (which we really did consider), so they don't exist.
What makes it hard for people to understand or accept is that the previews that they may still see in Starter Edition were rendered when the files were present on the hard drive, but they are just miniature versions of files, they are not the originals themselves. It's agonizing to believe that files have been lost, but they exist in Starter Edition, and the fact is, they don't, despite appearances. The program sits 'on top' of the operating system, it does not replace it.
If the files were recently deleted, and the hard drive space where the files used to reside has not be overwritten with other files, then there are file retrieval services and software that will try to restore accidentally deleted or corrupt files, but I've not been very successful myself using them, so I can't make any recommendations about what might work.
I truly regret these cases, but I hope you can understand that the program is not the cause of loss, but just the messenger, so to speak, for the operating system, which does the actual managing of file storage, movement or deletion.

  • Source files missing after wsus install

2 days ago I decided to install WSUS and SUP on our SCCM 2012 server and all was going good until this am when I discovered the folder that I keep all of my software deployment  in under the sourcefiles share was empty. I did take a snapshot
of the server before I started the install and everything seemed to go well, I could see my updates and it was syncing fine. Now if I boot the server normally the folders disappear under \sourcefiles\applications. If I boot to the snapshot they are there but
after a while they disappear as well and the updates show up under software updates without the wsus role installed on the server. I can see the folder right now and I am copying the contents to an external drive. I had setup windows server backup to back
up my whole hyper-v server sccm and sql are on the same box but I could not get backups to open at all, so this snapshot and the one I did when we did the initial install are all that I have. I have the sourcefiles shared out and mapped to my desktop and the
size of the share keeps changing as well.

I'M pretty sure I had WSUS configured right, I have a lab at my house and it is working fine although it is on Sever 2008 and is 3.0 not 4.0. I have made some progress today, I found this blog about SCCM 2012 and WSUS last night which really helped. I removed
WSUS this morning and the updates were still there but if I read the article correctly it says they will remain in sccm for 7 days when they are "tombstoned" so we will see. I am running a scheduled sync right now and it's almost done but I have also created
a folder under software updates and moved all of the files there. During my sync I have been doing a search on that folder for expired "no" and selecting all and moving them back to the root folder.

  • Prelude source file is missing

    Hi...
I'm trying to add preludes at both the module and member level to a C++ GUI project.... and keep getting this annoying error "Code editing problem: the prelude source file is missing".
Has anybody solved this one ?
I can't find a way to generate such a file, although I found a template for such a file under the examples. I can workaround it by deleting my main source.cpp file and regenerating it... as long as I keep saving the .dt file I don't seem to lose any of my preludes.....
    Thanks.... Marty

  • I cannot get my photo to print for this reason -there is a photo in this print job which is missing its source file

I'm working in lightroom to print cards with a custom print size.  When I set up the printer I get a message that reads "There is one photo in the print job which is missing its source file".  The preview shows my card as blank.  What is wrong?

I would believe what the message is saying, that a photo is missing.  Do you know what photo you're trying to print, and if you look at this photo in Library, does it have a question mark on the thumbnail or other indication that the preview is there but the master photo is gone/moved?

  • Missing source files

    Hello
I've noticed that some of the music in my iTunes library are no longer linked to source files. It says "the original file could not be found". How can I get a complete list of the songs in my library that are no longer linked with their source music files?
    Thank you
    Doug

"An error has occurred while creating the article.
Source files for one or more article layouts are missing."
I experienced this error message–obstacle as well, when uploading my Folio to the Folio Producer. I was able to resolve it. One of my articles had verbiage which included an email address or the URL of a few websites in my iPad Vertical layout and my iPad Horizontal layout. My error existed due to the fact that not all of the email address and URLs of the websites were set as hyperlinks yet. To correct the error, I highlighted each email address and each website address missing hyperlinks, and from the Hyperlinks Panel selected: New Hyperlink or New Hyperlink from URL. The email addresses and the website addresses became active and visible in the Hyperlinks Panel showing an envelope or active link icon. I saved the article document and loaded it back into the Folio Builder. Then selected the Folio and Uploaded it to Folio Producer!

  • Missing Source files when exporting to Soundtrack and LiveType

An extremely frustrating "glitch" has occurred. When exporting to LiveType or Soundtrack, I receive and error message telling me that one or more of my source files are missing. I had been editing with these files in FCP 5 for the past few days with no problems. Initially I had no problem exporting to LiveType. Yet, today when I exported to Soundtrack Pro and subsequently LiveType, my source files just disappear. I have found some references to this issue in the discussions, but found no solution. If someone has found a solution since the last posting, please inform of it.
    Demetrius

Export the clip using current settings.
Then open that in LT, and work with it independently.
Then export is and import it into FCP and use it to replace the original clip in the sequence.

  • FCE is giving me a missing file message and switching my source files.

My wife has been editing our vacation footage for about a week using FCE 4.01. She editing on a mac mini running Mac OS 10.5 and using an external HD via firewire as the scratch drive. So far she hasn't had any problems with the software, but last night when she opened her project file she got a file missing message and a bunch of the files were listed offline and couldn't be linked to the project. I looked around and read that a bunch of other people were having similar problems, but this seems a little bit different for a few reasons.
First, every time we open the project file the number of missing links is different. Sometimes it's around 70, sometimes around 40 and sometimes around 60 (there are a total of about 245 clips). The other odd thing is that all the files seem to still be in place, but when I tried to reconnect them I got another message saying the attributes of the file didn't match the original (specifically the length of the clips). It seems that FCE has randomly changed (or maybe swapped) some of my source video files so that the file named "clip 50.mov" is actually the footage from "clip 97.mov." Unfortunately with 245 clips, and none of them titled (she was going in chronological order) it's impossible to know exactly what got moved and to where.
Has anyone else seen this issue and if so have you found a way to prevent or recover from it? This (and other similar problems of files mysteriously gone missing) seems like a HUGE software breaking bug. Luckily my wife had already rendered and exported the section she was working on so there wasn't much actual work lost, but now we'll have to reimport all the original files again so she can continue on with the next parts.

I'm not sure. I'm not at home right now and can't check, but I have two of the exact same external drives and I've never had an issue with files missing or being altered on them. I run all of my iTunes music and Photoshop files off of those two drives which is why I assume the issue is with FCE.

  • While accessing lighthammer getting missing HTML Source File error.

    Hi Friends,
While tryining to logon to Lighthammer I am getting below error:
    (Missing HTML Source File: D:/Lighthammer/Illuminator/Temp/HomePages/admin/HomePage_admin.htm)
On checking at location D:/Lighthammer/Illuminator/Temp/HomePages/admin I found that folder admin is not available
and when we restore it from backup it get deleted as soon as we try to logon again.
This is happening with all other users also. As a workarround we first logon to Lighthammer and when it gives error we paste folder for corresponding user (admin in this case) with home page under D:/Lighthammer/Illuminator/Temp/HomePages then it works.
We are using MII version 11.5 on windows 2003.
    Please advise. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Diana,
    Thanks for you Reply.
I checked directory D:/Inetpub/wwwroot/Illuminator/HomePages and it does not exist.
But this directory also not exist on any other system including the production systems which are working fine.
Also checked the permissions and there seems to be no permission issue.

  • Need to re-burn a DVD, but some source files are missing. But Media Cache folder has them all.

hi all. I have PE3 and the issue is this: I needed a DVD of a project I'd completed a year ago, and I didn't have an old copy of the DVD. So I decided to re-burn it. But on opening the project, it seems some of the source files have been misplaced on my computer, so it says 'media offline'.
I figured I'd still be able to burn it though, because the Media Cache folder contained all the required files...
However it starts to burn the DVD and then stops at 49% saying transcoding error.
Q1: can you still burn a DVD if it says 'media offline' but you know all the source files are present in the Media Cache folder?
    Q2: what's the transcoding error?
    thx

The Media Cache folder contains files that are only of use to PE during internal editing and will NOT solve your lost video problem.
Once a Project is completed, that have no outside value.
The contents are CFA and PEK files, which is the Conformed Audio and Waveform Display, respectively (no video here to my knowledge).
And I'm not aware of any way to make them useful (outside of PE).
If you happen to have your Project and source video/audio files intact, and then delete the contents of the Media Cache folder, upon re-opening the Project, PE will regenerate the CFA and PEK files. Again this is only if you have the Project and all the source files (Assets)...

  • UPDATE : Toshiba Recovery Wizard 'cannot read from source file or disk' error (satellite L500)

UPDATE 2: Phoned Toshiba tech support again, guided by techie to begin the recovery again. Just before phoning I was able to go into recovery options and view the drive setup and all the files that couldn't be read are on the CD so I've no idea why the error kept occuring, and neither did the techie. Fingers crossed it works this time but I'm not overly hopefully given that we've just done exactly the same as I did before.  UPDATE 1: I got into the BIOS and reset everything back to defaults and yay, my toshiba recovery wizard now starts! :-D  On the down side, when trying to do a factory default software / out of the box recovery I continually get error messages with regards to copying the files, for example
cannot read from source file or disk
    7z.dll
    Type application extension
    size 585kb
    date modified 7/14/2009 10.26pm
other read / copy errors include PREINST6.SWM, BOOT_32, BOOTPRIORITY, CHECKMAXPTSIZE, CHGBOOT, CPU, CPUCHECK, CREATEPARTITION, CTRLDRVINFO, DISKWIPE, DMI, DPINST32, EBLIB.DLL, ERRORDIALOG, EW3BOOTSEQ, FWLINK, FWLINK.SYS, GETHDDINFO, GETKEYSTATE, IMAGEX, INFILED, INITRECAREA, KRAIADAPI.DLL ..... at which point I decided to 'skip all' :-/
Any explanations as to what's going on and how I might be able to fix it would be very much appreciated! :-)  Thank you!
I have a two and half year old satellite L500 with an Intel i-3 and 4 gigs of RAM, on which I was running Windows 7.
Admittedly it’s had rather a hard life (I ran some very demanding CAD / graphics software on it) but it had always performed well until just recently, when after suffering several BSOD (which had never happened before), the hard drive failed.
I partitioned and formatted a brand new hard drive (which is perfectly fine and functions normally when hooked up to another laptop with a SATA to USB cable) and obtained system recovery discs from Toshiba.  Unfortunately, when I try and run the first disc, windows starts to load files but then generates an error screen with the message Error F3-F100-0003 and a request to turn the computer off.
    When I use the windows Memory Diagnostic to get into the Windows Boot Manager Screen I get the following;
Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware / software change might be the case.
    To fix the problem
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
Choose your language settings and click ‘next’
    Click ‘repair your computer’
    File: \boot\memtest.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can also use F8 on startup to get into the advanced boot options but selecting any of them simply results in the F3-F100-0003 error message.  I’ve run a memory test using the UBCD, which tells me the memory is fine, and tried another hard drive (which also works perfectly well in another laptop) but no joy.  On phoning Toshiba support the techie said my hard drive had failed, but as I say, both hard drives are perfectly fine / usable when hooked up to another laptop.  I’m now completely stuck as to what the problem is and how I might resolve it – any advice / suggestions would be most gratefully received! Thank you in advance :-)

    Satellite L655-S5096
    Downloads here.
the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"
My best guess is that the disc is not readable. Try copying it to another. Sometimes that works.
Otherwise, order new discs from Toshiba.

  • How do I relink my video files when the source files are located in an AVCHD folder structure?

I am using FCP X 10.1.1 and I was completely done with editing a simple multicam video for a choir track and when I was exporting it it failed. I re-opened FCPX and found that there are several missing files, when I had just been working with them just a second ago! I know about relinking video files, but when I try to locate the source files (knowing where they are), the browser will not let me select ACHD file contents to get at the video files. Also, I cannot open the Library file for my project either.
    Here is a snap shot:

If it comes down to it, use clip wrap to carve your .mov files out of the SD. I am confused tho - if you were originally able to import all you needed and still have the original media ? Why can't you do it again to add other clips? To "get in" to your Library, control click on it>show paskage... but do NOT MOVE anything only copy.
Perhaps soeone else can shed light on this?

  • Can I change original source files in the project?

I have a project which has become very disorganized over the last year of editing due to PPs poor ability to effectively share sequences/projects across multiple computers. My assistant editor used a different computer and so the links in the sequences point to multiple "source" files in the project (some in imported folders). However, there is ultimately only one original video clip. The problem is that Premiere Pro won't allow me to delete the nested versions of the source files without also REMOVING the clips in each of the sequences that uses them. For example, the project folder looks like this:
    - Original File Folder
         -- videoClip-001.mov
    - Imported File Folder (imported on one of the many exchanges between editor and assistant editor)
         -- videoClip-001.mov
    - Sequence version 1 (Uses the second video clip, not the first - although they are ultimately the same video file)
If I delete the Imported File Folder, which only has a mirrored reference to the same video file as in the Original File Folder, then the clip in Sequence Version 1 dissapears. What I expect, rather, is to see a "missing media" message in the sequence so I can reconnect it to the version in the Original File Folder. But I can't. BIG HOLE in Premiere Pro CC.
Why do I want to do this? In a large project with hundreds of video clips, keeping order is very important. With the sequences using multiple "versions" of the same video clip, that order goes down the tubes and it becomes impossible to work.
    Thanks for your help.

I don't know of any way to clean up this project, but in the future, don't import the project, just import the sequence.  That will not create duplicates.
