Source media damaged... what should I do?

I did a software update recently and since then everytime I try to open Skype, iTunes or Quicktime I get a message saying it requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later to run. I have tried doing the software update for Quicktime again and it says the source media is damaged. I have also tried downloading the most recent version of Quicktime (I think... 769) and once again this says the source media is damaged.
What should I do?
A while back I stupidly managed to delet my DVD Player too and ever since have not been able to re-install this either.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Its hard not having music or video! My mac is all work and no play right now =(

Run the 10.5.8 combo updater again, but not via Software Update, then repair permissions.
Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.

  • POSSIBLE WORKAROUND - Install Failed Source Media Damaged DVD Error

ok i've been trying every trick i know to get leopard installed. there must be some issue with the manufacture of these dual-layer dvd's. well i think i have a solution.
boot using the leopard dvd. go through the steps to prepare to install. when you see the "customize" button, select it and UNCHECK all options. essential system software will be grayed out and the only remaining item.
    then install.
    Q: what does this do?
A: on the off-chance that the "damage" is on the part of the disc where those options are, you will at least finish a basic install and get your mac booting the new OS. THEN you can insert your 10.5 dvd and run the "optional installs," adding languages, printer drivers, x11, etc.
Q: but what if i get errors installing the options?
A: i was able to use disk utility to create a cd/dvd master of leopard without any of these "media damaged" errors. i reasoned, that if disk utility can create an error free disk image, then the media really isn't damaged. so try creating a cd/dvd master of your leopard disc, then mount it and install your options from there. you don't need to be booted off the DVD to install the options.
i just heard my iMac restart, so my strategy worked for me! let me know how you all fare. my guess is that Apple doesn't have a good answer for why this is happening yet. at best, they'll need to discover the problem and solve it, create a new golden master, re-manufacture the discs and send out replacements... which could take weeks.
    good luck!

  • Installing iTunes failed - Source Media Damage

I'm trying to instal itunes 9.2.1 the disk image can't be verified(?)
    I clicked on the iTunes9.2.1.dmg icon and it cam up with installation as usual, however after partially downloading get the following message;
"The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement". This was when downloading from Apple.
    How can I rectify this?

I have tried doing so, however keep encountering the same problem. It's now doing it for all things I download.

  • NTSC : I have mixed 24p & 30p footage, what should my AME mpg2 dvd settings be? "Lot's of Jittering"

    I have mixed 24p & 30p footage...
    1) Adobe Media Encoder: what should my mpg2 dvd settings be?
    2) PP CS5.5: What should my sequence settings be?
I am outputting to BR & dvd  ntsc. I'm getting a lot of jitter, mostly with the panned footage.
    I have cs5.5 pc.24 gigs ram, raid
    I have 24P & 30p 1920/1080  footage

    Couple of things.
Jitter while panning is not uncommon, even for Hollywood, if the pan is too fast.  24 fps just doesn't lend itself well to smooth pans if you go too fast.  So keep in mind that this is something that may not be fixable without a reshoot.
Next, 30p can't go onto Blu-ray at any resolution.  You're limited to interlaced at 30 fps.
With those caveats out of the way, I'd ask how was the 24p captured?  What camera was used and in what mode?

  • Update 10.5.4 Mac OS Source Media is Damaged

It's been happening for a few weeks now and it's driving me crazy. I tried to install the Mac Os update 10.5.4 and at the end there's a message error that says:
*"Mac Os update media is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact manufacturer for replacement."*
Do guys have any idea what's this all about? I started using Mac last January and I don't know much about it.
Any help i can ge is much appreciated.

Came across this on google search. Jon

On a 17" PowerBook G4 I was unable to install Leopard because I had upgraded the original 1GB of RAM to 2GB using RAM I purchased from Crucial, however, once I put the original RAM back in, Leopard installed fine, and even recognized the new (Crucial) RAM when I reinstalled it following a successful install of Leopard.
Here's what happened - the Leopard DVD passed it's own integrity check and started the install, giving me a time estimate. At about halfway through, it failed with an error message indicated my 'source media is damaged" and suggesting that I use a different copy of the source (install) DVD. I tried a half-dozen or more times with the same result, regardless of which upgrade method I chose (upgrade, archive & install, or erase & install).
Since I naturally assumed that the message was correct, and the DVD was somehow damaged, I called Apple and they sent a replacement DVD. Same problem. Still assuming the replacement DVD must have [coincidentally] also been damaged, I had Apple send yet another replacement. Same problem. I didn't think it was possible to get three damaged DVDs.
At that point I recalled that the RAM was not the original Apple-supplied memory and thankfully I still had the original (2 512MB sticks) which I reinstalled, after which Leopard installed from the original purchased retail copy with NO problems.
I put back in the Crucial RAM (2 1GB sticks) and Leopard recognized it just fine. No problems in the past week since this happened.
SO it seems that Leopard does not like OEM RAM when performing an install, but has no problem with recognizing it once it's installed.
Needless to say I am going to keep the original RAM in case I have trouble with future upgrades.

I recently updated my iphone 5 to IOS 8.0.2 and now it wont turn on it just says to connect to itunes and when i do the only option it gives me is to restore iphone because it is in "recovery mode". It says it will delete all my media but i didn't do a back up and i don't want to lose my photos, what should i do? (I never used iCloud to back them up either).

If it's in recovery mode, the data is already gone. Why did you never back up your important data?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    codesign -vv /S*/*/*/A*/*/A/*/S*/*/A/S*S*S*
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Once you are in Recovery Mode, it's too late to do any backup. I am afraid you are going to lose your data.

  • When I click on network utility and try to verify my disc it will not allow it due to a damaged disc. My Genius 3 repair disc doesn't work with the Lion OSX. What should I so now?

I have an iMac 10.07. Have a damaged disc according to disc utility. What should I do to fix this?
    Thanks,
    John

If you are using Lion you will need to restart your Mac in recovery mode.  Then run disk utility to repair your hard drive.
OS X Lion includes a built in set of utilities in the Recovery HD. Restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R), and keep holding them until the Apple icon appears, indicating that your Mac is starting up. After the Recovery HD is finished starting up, you should see a desktop with a Mac OS X menu bar and a "Mac OS X Utilities" application window. Note: If you see a login window or your own desktop and icons, it is possible that you didn't hold Command-R early enough. Restart and try again.

    Hello!
When there is unauthorized modifications on the iPhone Apple doesnt replace the product. Unfortunately you will need to get a new iPhone!
If you could have contacted Apple when you broke your screen you would be eligible to get a replacement after paying the Out of Warranty service fee.
    All the best!
