Source Monitor Glitch

I drag my playhead and scrub through my footage in the source window, then let go, the playhead then travels the same path again by itself like it traveled back in time and re traveled the path I was scrubbing. Has any one experienced this issue. I am on a 2014 8 core MacPro.

  • Has anyone else experienced a glitch when making cuts? Many of my cuts slip a frame or two when moved from source monitor to sequence and it started with the latest update

Once I updated to the latest version of Premiere 2014.2 I started experiencing a glitch when my cuts would slip a frame or two. At first it was randomly. Then I had footage I was using that was an .avi file that I converted to .m4v using vlc and now in my Premiere project, are having the greatest difficulty keeping my original cut that I create in my source monitor. When I bring it into my timeline, the new frames are added. When I double click the clip into my source monitor, I see that my original cuts remain, not shifted. Looking back in my timeline, unwanted frames are still there. I have to bring it into my source monitor to guess where the right frame would be to compensate for this. It happens more often with the converted files but still happens to .mp4s as well. I am using a Mac Pro 15-in from Early 2011. Thanks for the advice in advance!

I downloaded and installed the latest iTunes 11.2.1 (1) update yesterday. It appears to have corrected this issue to a large extent: plugging in an iThing to sync no longer seems to cause explosive growth in memory footprint. leaks reports a much slower growth in dead memory:
leaks -nocontext -nostacks iTunes | grep total
Process 27307: 353 leaks for 726488 total leaked bytes.
    20 minutes later:
leaks -nocontext -nostacks iTunes | grep total
Process 27307: 364 leaks for 1256056 total leaked bytes.
20 minutes later, after DLing updated apps and doing another sync:
leaks -nocontext -nostacks iTunes | grep total
Process 27307: 364 leaks for 1256056 total leaked bytes.
Memory allocation started at 70Mb, grew to 200Mb, and appears to have stabilized there.
I'm going to keep an eye on it overnight, but it looks as if this may not be a complete system killer as it was before, at least in my case. In any case, I can highly recommend this latest iTunes update for anyone else experiencing this specific issue. Updating bug 16772016 with this new information.

  • Glitch in Audio when switching from Source Monitor to timeine in PPro

I am running a nMP 3ghz 8-core, 16gb ram, D700's, on osx 10.10. PProCC is 8.2.0 (65) Build. It is the most up to date version on CC. I also have a Focusrite Scarlette 2i2 for my Audio interface. This is where I'm having the issue. When I playback a clip in the source monitor, then go to play something in the timeline I get a weird 2 second delay with 2 pop's in my speakers, the lights on the XLR gain knobs on the focusrite audio interface flash twice in sync with the audio pops, then the timeline will play. And if I now go to play something in the source monitor coming from the timeline it does the same thing, 2 seconds, pops, lights then it plays. But if I stop and start the clip in either the source monitor or timeline without switching between, it plays fine. Only switching between the source monitor and the timeline. I have tried numerous things in the ASIO settings but nothing seems to get rid of this glitch and it drives me and my clients insane because it does it every single time I switch between the two. HELP!

Cam, I have this exact same problem. I plan on sending out some emails to hopefully find a solution, but I thought I would check here quick. Did you ever find an answer to your question elsewhere?

  • Source Monitor 'Freezes' Forces PPro Restart. Glitch, CS6?

    Hi all,
I have been experiencing an issue with the source monitor in several projects built in CS6.  Occasionaly, I will double click a clip in the project window, or even right click and 'Open in Source Monitor'.  Most of the time this functions successfully and the clip appears in the monitor, but at some point clips, any clip, refuses to open/appear in the source monitor.  The source monitor enter a 'frozen' state and will have a strange appearance for example displaying the audio meters from the 'Audio Mixer' tab.  It seems the only way to cure this once it has occurred is to close PPro and re-open the project.  At this point this is proving to be a waste of time and a kink in an editor's flow.
Has anyone else experience this symptom?
    Thanks,
    Lindsay

  • Two trim selections in source monitor time ruler. (Premiere Pro CC2014)

I'm really confused by this apparent new feature, or glitch, in PP. I'm working on an old project that has been upgraded from CS6 through CC, and now to CC2014. Several of my clips have shifted to a different point in the source media, so the clip is still the same length on the timeline but contains a completely different part of the footage. When I double-click the clip in the time line to open it in the source monitor I get two trims on the time ruler like this:
I am absolutely confused by this, I've never seen it before. More importantly I don't seem to be able to relocate either of them independently to get the correct section of the footage into my cut, and I can't seem to delete one of them.
Is this something that's been caused by the upgrade, or is it a changed setting/preference in CC 2014. I haven't had this problem in any other project prior to installing 2014 earlier this week and now I'm hesitant to open any other projects in case it makes a mess of them too!

The blue part is the video the green part the audio (this has been always been in Premiere)
If you check Linked Selection (next to the wrench)  it probably will 'merge" when you double click on it.

  • How to open only one clip at a time in the source monitor?

Ok the answer to this question may be simple.. hopefully...
At the moment each time I open a clip in the source monitor it adds it to the dropdown list.
Fine... but I am opening and closing hundreds of clips in a day and after a while I noticed it seemed to be slowing down the whole PPCS5.5 system.
It appears that PP seems to be keeping each clip I open... active.
Is there a way to allow only one clip to be open at a time in the source monitor... other than having to close them all first??? (would be ideal if there was some kind of shortcut like shift-doubleclick)

SonyZ7's can record to compact flash cards as well as tape, so I generally log and transfer from the cards.
So I guess I should do a bit more research on workflow's in Pr

  • CS5: Green Pixelated Video in Source Monitor playback for clips w/ 44100 hz - Compressed - Stereo

I am having issues with 2 of the 14 clips I have imported into a new project.  I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. -- I have enclosed the properties of a few clips + a screen shot

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.

    Thanks Ann.
Is that true for all GoPro video formats or just some of the newer (higher resolution/frame rate) one?  The GoPro has several different pre-sets and I typically like to get as much resolution as possible for my source and for highspeed subjects like sports I try to use higher framerates as well.  Are you suggesting that I convert the source files to Cineform avi and then edit those resulting AVI's in CS6?

  • Premiere Pro keeps crashing when using overwrite (.) shortcut in Source Monitor

When editing a clip in the source monitor and then using the (.) key to overwrite the clip onto my timeline Premiere Pro keeps crashing. If I select the Timeline window and then press the (.) key it works fine, but if the Source Monitor is highlighted and I press (.) it crashes every time and shows these windows:

    [/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/mightykilt/shared/

It saves my current project as a copy, which is good, but I've now ended up with lots of copies of the same project as it keeps on crashing. In order to work I have to make sure that the Timeline is highlighted before I use the shortcut. It makes for very precarious and tense editing!

I'm using a MacBookPro 15", OS X 10.8.4 and editing footage filmed at 24fps 1920x1080 on my Canon 550D/T2i. All .MOV files.
I purchased my software from iSoftware.co.uk. I'm worried that could be the problem.
Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

A crash with a very similar error message was fixed in the new CC release. The bug report in that case involved creating a multi-cam sequence, so it might not be directly related.
If you have a chance to download the CC trial, we'd be interested to know whether the crash remains in the new version.

  • Open file in source monitor via extension

I want to be able to list some files in an external window (could be browser or an application). The files are already imported in the project. When I click on a file, I want it to open in source monitor. Is this possible?

Hi Jostein, I'll contact you directly to discuss further.

  • Why can't I open a sequence in the source monitor?

Normally when I edit, I use pluralize, which creates a sequence in which I can take notes. I usually then drag that sequence into my source monitor, create in and out point and place that into my final timeline. For some reason, Premiere is not letting me drag the file I need into the source monitor. Any idea why? Is there something with the settings off?
    Please help

What's wierd is that some Sequences can be brought into my source monitor without a problem, while other's cannot.
I also noticed that the ones that can't be brought into the source monitor, if you were to import them directly onto the timeline, they are imported without audio. Those that can be brought into the source monitor import with audio and video.
    Any ideas?

  • Video won't play in timeline or source monitor

I recently purchased a Canon HG10 camcorder and have been attempting to edit the AVCHD .mts files using Premiere Pro CS4 (4.2.1). However, I have been unable to play the video in either the timeline or source monitor. Both the video and audio will play for a fraction of a second and then stop. I thought it might be an issue with the .mts file so I converted it to several other formats (Quicktime, H.264, MPEG4, etc.) and I still can't get any video to play. I imported and tried playing other video, but to no avail. I can edit, scrub, export, apply effects, and do pretty much anything else - but I can not get it to play in the timeline. I do have Final Cut Express and if I convert the .mts file to Quicktime I can edit it, but I would like to be able to edit the native Canon AVCHD.
    Current system:
    iMac 10.6.4
2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    3 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon X1600
    74 GB hard drive space
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Jason

    Jason,
The first thing that I would check would be your Playback Preferences. Please list your settings, and folk here can review them and possibly spot something simple.
Next, I would do one of two things, regarding your Catalyst drivers for you ATI/AMD card. If you do not have the latest driver, download and install it. If you DO have the latest Catalyst driver, keep it around in a safe folder, but download and install an earlier version. Cannot recall the exact numbers now, but a few users had to go back about three versions. Also, since those driver versions were listed in this forum, I'd bet that at least two more have been released. Going back a few months, it seems that there were 2 - 3 versions, that did not work well with some Adobe programs.
Though I have all nVidia cards, I keep drivers going back about 6 mos., as I never know when I might encounter an issue and need to roll-back.
Also, as the gaming market drives the video card business, and their drivers, it is possible that some gamer-only module has been added. That happened with nVidia drivers about a year ago. For a couple of versions, one had to manually disable a 3D and another gamer-only module. Later versions installed with these off, unless the user turned them on.
Last thought - check your OpenGL settings, and depending on your OS, check Hardware Acceleration. In your Catalyst console, check what your 3D settings are. You want to set any to "Let the application choose," or similar syntax.
Good luck, and hope that something there helps you.

  • Can I open a second Source Monitor for the audio track of a video?

I really dislike having to switch to the audio waveform in the Source Monitor pane when I want to tinker with a clip's audio track. I usually try to stay away from needing to use a panes drop down menu as much as possible. Is there a way to get this in a different window?
    Using CS6

You cant tinker with the audio track in the Source Monitor. Apart from IN and Out Point setting.
Normally one would expand the audio track in the time line...zoom in/out to suit and maybe use the tilde shortcut  key to view it all full screen.

  • Jerky playback in Source Monitor (vs. Windows Media Player) ...

I am a new user of CS5.5.   I've read the FAQ and other posts and understand that my machine is underpowered.
That said, why do my HD clips play smoothly with Windows Media Player or Quicktime, but play jerky in the PP Source Monitor?  What is it about PP's source monitor player that causes clips to choke when they can play back smoothly on the same computer using other software?   Are there any other workarounds other than a faster machine I can do in the meantime until I upgrade my hardware?
For example, I see the "render entire work area" option under the Sequence menu as noted above - is there any way to do something similar to get PP to (pre) render the clips in the Project Panel for follow up editing in the Source Monitor window?
What about batch encoding to an uncompressed format and then editing the resultant clips?  I would be concerned about loss of quality here though.  Being new to PP, not even sure this question makes any sense in the first place.
    Thanks!

Good news for you...its not designed that way and a great playback experience is possible.
Bad news is...you have to work out why you are not getting it!
(It has nothing to do with Quadro Cards because plenty of users with other cards have no issue either.)
Well, I'm just going by what I've seen in the past few years. When Premiere CS4 came out I had an Intel Quad Core 2.66 Ghz, 8 GB of RAM, Intel motherboard and an Nvidia 7950GT card. Playback was fine in Vegas, skipped frames in Premiere. Then on my current machine, an AMD 1090T 6 cores @3.2 Ghz, G.Skill 16 GB of RAM, a top of the line Gigabyte motherboard, and at first an ATI Radeon 4850HD, same thing, Vegas played fine, Edius much better (but nothing beats Edius in speed), and Premiere CS5 stuttered like crazy. Now, same machine but with an eVGA GTX570 instead of the ATI, Windows 7 x64, fresh install just one day old. Premiere CS6 does the same thing. If it's my machine, I have no idea what could it be, but the fact that it did the same on two different cards on this machine, and that Premiere CS4 used to do the same in a totally different machine, plus the fact that two other NLEs didn't have that issue, tells me Premiere has a problem at displaying video inside the GUI.
Maybe it could be that most people don't see stutter because they leave the playback quality in automatic? I'm sure I don't have any stutter if I do that, but it looks terrible. Some frames look fine, others look like the pixels got drunk and had a night out with crack whores Well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but you get the point.
If anyone has a suggestion I'd be happy to try it. It's not a terrible issue for me, I always edit with the TV set on and that is fed by the Matrox MXO2 Mini with perfect quality.

  • Timeline to External / Source Monitor

I am presently migrating to CS5 Prod. Prem. Just recently installed all apps.
In Prem. Pro, How can I get the footage placed in the sequence timeline to gang to the Source Monitor Panel and/or output to my external monitor? From the source monitor panel, I can select the sequence, but when I manually scrub back and forth thru the sequence using the timeline there is no output to the external tv monitor, only to the desktop program monitor within the PP workspace.
Thanks in advance for the help. I'm sure I'll have many more questions. I'm migrating over from A/ FCS3.

no go... I can only output to the external monitor through the Source Monitor. When I try to turn off output from the program monitor, I just get a little dialog box saying Turn Off Dropped Frame Warning with a check box and okay button. My output seems to be locked to the Source monitor. I am able to bring up the dialog boxes you spoke of in the Program monitor.
I'm outputting thru a Blackmagic Intensity Pro HDMI/Component/Composit pci card. The card has it's own panel in System Preferences of the OS and is outputting thru HDMI to the external monitor. As I said, I'm able to output from the Source Monitor in PP, but not the Program Monitor in PP. The timeline seems locked to the Program monitor, Is there a way to link the timeline to the Source Monitor, instead of the Program Monitor?
    Thanks again,
    J.

  • Clips from Project bin to source monitor causing video output to go out of sync(CS6 and CC)

Any footage I double-click or drag from the Project window to the Source monitor causes my video output to go out of sync. When I put the clips in the timeline, video goes back in sync and I'm able to view video output.  My monitors are connected to a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt(9.7.5) via component and HDMI. Is this normal behavior in Premiere or is there a setting to enable this? No issues doing this in FCP7(clips from Project window to Canvas).
Can someone with an I/O from AJA, Matrox, or Blackmagic please test this out for me. Thanks...

    Hi Joe,
How do you have your audio setup? Try the following.
    - Set your OS system sound to Built-in or Line out audio
    - Select Blackmagic for both Video and Audio in Preferences> Playback
    - Select System Default Input/Output from Preferences> Audio Hardware
    Hope this helps,
