Source of supply best advantages disadvantages

Hi All
it could be very simple for you.
2 X customers uses Inforecord extensively for external procurement
and 2 X customers uses Contract extensively for external procurement
what are the advantages and disadvantages between two.
why someone never thougt of contact for procurement why another customer never thought of inforecord for external procurement.
all 4 x customers are using procurement extensively according to their wish
are any specific things stops them?
both are having planing systems in place.
as all aware that every business objects in SRM is to meet the customer requirement

Info record is a means for capturing price information , volume based pricing etc ..There is no constant price guarnteed ..
In case of contract , supplier is bound to provide required material / services for a defined period of time or as agreed..legally ...

  • XI & Biztalk - advantage & disadvantage

What are the  advantage & disadvantage of XI & Biztalk ?
Which one is best solution as a middleware ?
Please provide in relavance to adapters IDOC etc..

    Sap XI
XI is well suited for connecting SAP systems with each other and with non-SAP. SAP XI provides an integrated workflow engine that allows defining adapters to non-XML protocols and mappings to convert data content from source to target format.
XI comes handy particularly incase of SAP - Non SAP interfaces where you can import standard integration content. Also XI has got sophisticated open standard adapter framework which is very easy to implement and custom logic can be implemented using Adapter module programming.
    Advantages
Monitoring is better than any other middleware product. It offers exhaustive monitoring features like message, performance, component monitoring etc, all of which can be used to track and rectify the errors. It follows a hub and spoke model.
When you need to integrate with an SAP system XI has an advantage in supporting various SAP components and so on.
Process functionalities inside XI to modify content in the communication channel on own defined rules for business purposes.
Mappings and adapters are good as comparable with any other middleware product.
Synchronous & Asynchronous communication is possible.
      Dis-Advantages
Web methods are particularly good if u have B2B kind of communication with their Trading Partners product.
XI is lacking full-fledged Message Queue compared to other established Middleware products.
It lacks in ability to process huge messages but SAP is working on that.
It does not have a messaging layer exposed by APIs like IBM MQ-Series.
It is not comparable to Tibco in terms of speed.
SAP relies on other vendors except for a few adapters.
    3. BizTalk
BizTalk is a business process management (BPM) server that enables companies to automate and optimize business processes. This includes powerful, familiar tools to design, develop, deploy, and manage those processes.
While planning for the integration scenario BizTalk takes care about tasks like Gathering information, Defining naming conventions, planning team development, setting up and working with source control.
    Advantages
BizTalk 2004 is completely built on .Net.
Recoverable Interchange. In BizTalk, an Interchange can contain two or more messages, such as a batch. With the introduction of Recoverable Interchange in BizTalk Server 2006, only messages that fail validation are suspended, and the messages can be resumed after the error is corrected.
Failed message routing. New functionality is available to allow orchestration and send ports to subscribe to failed messages. When used appropriately, failed message routing can be used for notifying users of failed messages or building rich error handling and message repair capabilities.
Lowest total cost of ownership (TCO). BizTalk Server reduces the cost and complexity of automating and managing business processes with a single, unified solution for Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), Business-to-Business integration (B2Bi), and Business Process Management (BPM).
Enhanced productivity through integrated management and development tools.
Supports Computer Telephony Interface (CTI) through TAPI.
    Dis-Advantages
    Recovery is manual.
    Backups are not automated.
Fault Tolerance capabilities are supported through other Microsoft products.
Repository only works with MS SQL.
Requires additional software to use certain features in BizTalk 2002, Microsoft Operations Manager & Application Center.
To use a server with 8-32 processors it requires Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter, which must be purchased through an OEM.
Only runs on Microsoft/Intel platform and only supports XML Data Reduced (XDR) not XML Schema Definition (XSD).

  • What is the significance of Interlinkage as Source of Supply in SRM ?

    Dear all,
When we send across a external requirement to SRM, then  during the creation of shopping cart, it tries to determine a unique source of supply. It searches for available contracts , interlinkages and vendor lists.
My question is what is meaning of interlinakge? This has the details of Vendor + Product + Price.
Is this same as Purchasing Info record?
How is an interlinkage created in SRM?
Please provide links or clarification on significance of interlinakge.
Useful note for reference is 521458.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Srivatsa

    Yes. you are correct
An interlinkage is a relationship in SAP SRM between a vendor and a product
used to specify a price. but note is very pld ..
It is also one of the source of supplies  in SRM like contract , vendor list , inforecord.
in sc cockpit propose source of supply and you may get interlinkage if you maintained.

  • Sourcing and source of supply - when does it happen?

    Hi Experts,
Can anybody tell me how the sourcing / source of supply assignment works in standard classic scenario?
    This is the situation;
    Classic scenario.
Price and vendor (and maybe even info record nr) are known in the internal catalog.
Is the standard process (not sure if standard is the right word ) that you would transfer the price and vendor to the shopping cart? (price is needed for approval)
Or can you also source already in the SHC? And get the price directly from ECC info record?
Or is this sourcing done in the PO and not yet in the SHC?
Are there any best practices on this? (sourcing / assigning directly from backend can prevent difference between catalog price and change price in info recordu2026delta due to timing)
Any ideas or setups on how you did it could be helpful, so please let me know.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,

Can anybody tell me how the sourcing / source of supply assignment works in standard classic scenario?
    This is the situation;
    Classic scenario.
Price and vendor (and maybe even info record nr) are known in the internal catalog.
Internal catalog is totally different. Sc can be created via catalog also.
nowadayas you can transfer info record to MADM and you can utilise be specific what is your internal catalog.
Q1:-Is the standard process (not sure if standard is the right word ) that you would transfer the price and vendor to the shopping cart? (price is needed for approval)
A1:- so this purchase inforecord price or contract price will not be considereed for sc approval process via internal goods and services.
Q2:- Or can you also source already in the SHC? And get the price directly from ECC info record?
A2:- while creating PO sc takes that proce from info record and creates a PO with info record/ contract price .while ordering cart , sc just takes material price.
Or is this sourcing done in the PO and not yet in the SHC?
PO will be created by the purchaser after assigning the vendor ,
Are there any best practices on this? (sourcing / assigning directly from backend can prevent difference between catalog price and change price in info recordu2026delta due to timing).
you can not change inforecord price in srm via sc.

  • Level Based vs. Value Based hier: advantages, disadvantages and limitations

Could someone give an overview about the advantages, disadvantages and limitations when comparing OLAP Level to Value based hierarchies?
    Thanks,
    Marcio

OLAP can handle both types of hierarchies. No performance advantage using one over the other (while loading cube or querying).
If you are "pushing" dimensional-security inside OLAP, in that case also it does not matter.
Cube-based MVs (with query-rewrite) can only be created if the hierarchies are level-based. Are you going to need that?
Generally there are other "non-olap" factors:
(#1). Which reporting tool will be used. Does it provide better reporting capabilities if the source is parent-child or level-based?
(#2). Are there any reporting requirements that will need "level" information when selecting data.
(#3). Are there are any security requirements that will be handled in "reporting-layer" which will need level-based information.
Although in case of (#1) and (#2), you can "expose" an olap's parent-child hierarchy as "level-based" hierarchy to the reporting tool using internal GID (grouping-id) information.
OBIEE 11.1.1.5 (and future versions) works well with OLAP metadata, and with any type of hierarchy in olap.
For other reporting tools, you have to see what features are available.
In short, its the source system, the reporting tool and the reporting requirements that will dictate what type of hierarchy should be stored in OLAP.

  • Advantages/Disadvantages of installing Oracle RAC on Windows 2003 VS Linux

    Hello Guys,
I am not very good with linux, have to create a Oracle RAC environment using dataabse 10g.
I just need to know the advantages/disadvantages of configuring RAC on windows and on linux operating system.
Please help me with this. Please also specify what is the best available windows and linux version to configure RAC.
    Regards,
    Imran

Go with th eOS you have the skills in, if you have onsite expertise in windows then it makes no sense to use Linux because some guy on the internet says its better. Windows can be a highly available server OS when is managed by professional well quallified adminstrators.
Personally I would use linux because I am more familiar with the OS than windows. I also find oracle makes more sense on a *NIX type platform but there are shops that run oracle on windows with the required high availability.

  • Converting RAW to DNG! What are the advantages / disadvantages?

I have Canon cameras and shoot RAW, but the question itself is surely also valid for Nikon, Sony or other brand-shooters.
When importing my pictures to Lightroom, I could convert them to DNG but didn't do this up to now, because I do not know what I loose. I suppose that I loose the ability to process my files with DPP, but I will not do that anyhow. I can appreciate the advantage of having the file in an open documented format, where even I could easily write a reader for it. So the answer should not be what I can easily find in the Adobe introduction into DNG. I have also the DNG specification in front of me, and I can read it, because I once wrote a program to read TIFF files. I understand that I could add the original RAW image stream, but I do not want using up the space wasted for this. I know, that all development parameters used for the specific RAW image can be written with the image file instead of having those stored in a database or a side-car-file.
But what I did not find until now a technical explanation about what happens during the convert. Who can enlighten me? Where do I find the missing technical explanations?
    Thanks in advance!
    Lucien.

    Feierwoon wrote:
    That wasn't the question... .
Based on the title of the thread and your initial post, it seems like your question had a lot of
"What are the advantages / disadvantages?"
in it, and only a little
"What happens at a technical level when converting"
But if you want more detailed info about conversion, and you have the aptitude to understand, I recommend doing what Lr5user-pt recommended:
Download the DNG SDK and dig in - all your questions will be answered (and if not, you can also ask DNG-specific technical questions in the DNG forum).
As far as my "sources" regarding the technical summary I presented, they are many and varied, none of which are the DNG SDK. In other words, my knowledge is based more on experience over the years - I don't know all the details under the hood..
    Some experiments to consider doing:
    * exiftool (-X) a proprietary raw file, then convert to DNG and repeat.
    * open a proprietary raw in a DNG-supporting software of your choice and inspect metadata, then open the converted DNG in the same software and re-evaluate. Compare to proprietary raw opened in manufacturer's software, and what you see via exiftool.
Tom Hogarty (Lightroom project manager) and others who know have said: "DNG converter discards no metadata", and I believe them, but haven't verified for myself. Yet once proprietary metadata is in the DNG, most (all?) software will no longer decode it. A prime example is focus points - presumably they're there, but once converted, focus point feature is no longer supported. The amount of work required to support converted focus point data is unknown (to me), but as far as I know, no software has ventured to do it. If you want focus points, don't convert.
If you want the truth, I think for most people it's "not wise" to convert to DNG. Why? because unless you already know why you are converting (and need to convert to satisfy your goals), or you already know why you must NOT convert (e.g. so you can open the files in mfr.software, and see focus points..) the pros and cons are likely to be a wash, and now you have twice the number of raw files, unless you discard your originals, which would be REALLY "not wise", in my opinion. If you find the notion of "openly documented format" sufficiently compelling, then, ya know, more power to ya (I don't judge..), but there is no guarantee that DNG will outlast NEF (or..), and if it does, there will be ample opportunity to convert before you're left in the cold, unless you're stuck in a cave for a few decades, or are kryogenically frozen.. True, if all companies die, you may be able to write your own DNG converter (/reader), given the DNG documentation, but FWIW, NEF is also thoroughly documented (document is in freely downloadable SDK), and reverse engineerable (that's what Adobe and Phil Harvey does), so you could also write your own NEF converter, so not really a very compelling argument, not this year anyway - ask me again in a few decades..
If filesize is a main draw, then be sure NOT to save the hi-rez previews in your DNGs, otherwise you've just lost most or all of the filesize advantage. Also, you can strip previews from some proprietary raws (e.g. NEFs), to reduce filesize.
Personally, if DNG supported sidecars, I would be more likely to convert, because file-management/backup is only an issue if you "forget" about xmp sidecars (and I do not forget), and I'd rather have my xmp in separate ready-to-read xml text files, rather than embedded in binary files, but hey, that's me..
PS - I always use/encourage-others-to-use DNG when distributing raws to others for use in Adobe software, so xmp is not separate and can not get lost.
PPS - proprietary raws and dngs are both just glorified tiff files - raw data, previews, and metadata..
Don't get me wrong: I am NOT anti-DNG, and in fact - just the opposite: I am PRO dng, it's just that I wouldn't (don't) convert my own raws to DNG at this point. If you find the reasons to convert now are sufficiently compelling, you have my complete support and cooperation, fwiw..
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Source of supply in SC shows wrong contracts when changing cocode

    Hi experts,
    Some details:
We are on an SRM 5.0 implementation, in classic scenario.
We have a problem when using source of supply in a shopping cart.
When we select a certain product and let the system suggest a source of supply, it gives us a list of contracts. However, when we change the company code, we would expect that these same contracts would not be visible anymore (as the R/3 contract has a company code). Even after refreshing, the system keeps giving wrong contracts.
    Any suggestions?
    Best Regards,
    Tom

Hi. Are these backend contracts and do your contracts have plants on?
I have a feeling that SRM only uses Plant, Unit of Measure and Material group to calculate if a backend contract is valid.
If your contracts have no plants that might explain it.
BADI BBP_SOS_BADI should allow you to restrict on custom criterea though.
    Regards,
    Dave.

  • Advantages & disadvantages of notification

    Hi Gurus,
My client wants to generate notification for every (major & minor) defect. Can any body give me the advantages & disadvantages of notification?
    Advance thanks,
    Regards,
    Sbabu

    Dear Babu,
In SAP  any types of nonconformity (defects) can be effectively handled using Notification process. There are no disadvantages of using this only problem is in beginning users feel that the process is lengthy and difficult. But once they are us to then this the best tool for using analysis.
Customer complaints and vendor complaints are best handled using Notification,  you can get all types of analysis and graphs from std system with in fraction of second. Only problem is it should be  thorally understood and practiced.
Pl make the good user manual to explain the users the actual process and advantages they will surely accept this.

    Hi Varun,
You can try running the model consistency check, which will give you all product-location combinations with a procurement type F but with no procurement relationship(TLanes). This is the way i use to identify Missing Source of supplies.
