Source to learn about cell phone programming etc...

Hi, I'm new to forum. I would like to learn all I can about programming, modifying and messing with cell phones ( Droid X would be my preference but would like to learn all). Is there books, a site or anything else that I can buy to learn more? Getting my Droid early next week, I'm a bit excited can you tell!
Thanks Scott

I guess I didn't explain what I wanted to learn correctly. I would like to learn about how to set up, configure, root, and mess around with cell phones (Droid X).
Thanks Scott
To do those things, you will need to do an internet search for that. We cannot explain here because the forum moderators will remove the information before you can see it.
The owners manual is on the verizon site for download. That will help with the setup part.
Be advised that rooting your phone will nullify your warranty on the phone.

  • Jest a Heads-Up about cell phones & New Jersey

Come Saturday, March 1st, New Jersey drivers chatting on hand-held cell phones are subject to a traffic stop and a summons carrying a $100 to $250 fine with no points.
New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety Director Pam Fischer said police will have the authority to stop someone for using a cell phone without the past limitation of needing another traffic infraction to pull over a chatty motorist.
    Just giving everyone a Heads-up...

Purchased full price Xoom from a local Verizon Store. No contrat. When I inquired about the  return policy Sales Rep informed me there would be a 35.00 dollar restock fee. I decided to return the Xoom. Upon returning I was informed the restock fee is 70.00 dollars. Yes the fee was documented on the sales receipt. My fault and stupidity not reading the fine print and placing my faith in th sales rep misinformation. Am I sure that the sales rep did not say 70.00 dollars when purchasing the Xoom? YES. If I knew there was a70.00 dollar restock fee I would have NEVER purchased the equipment. A 35.00 dollar restock sounded reasonable to try a new device, not 70.dollars.
Lesson learned. Always read the fine print. Never believe the sales rep.... they just want to make a sale.
Yes, the $70 restocking fee has been on tablets ever since they were introduced on Verizon back in November.

  • More sources for learning about Aperture

I need to decide if I should continue using Aperture or not (10 days left on my trail) and I would like to know what sources there is for learning more about Aperture. I've looked at the videos that are available at Apples sites but are there other sources that I could use?
Yes, I know about the manual but I usually learn faster with examples.

I would say that one of the best instruction for Aperture is Derrick Story and Scott Bourne at Lynda.com http://movielibrary.lynda.com . There is a cost of 25$ a month for Lynda.com but its all you can eat with no ads.I feel it was more then worth it and if there is know other training you can just quet. It will allow your to hit the ground running.

  • Accidentally "bought" an album while learning about my phone. HELP!

My daughter bought an iPhone 5c for me. I am not stupid for a living, but pretty close when it comes to this phone. I was poking around, trying to learn things by myself, when suddenly a "Purchases Today" (something like that) message came up. Somehow I had "purchased" eleven songs by the Ramones. Gee whiz; bad enough I bought something I didn't want and didn't mean to buy, but worse because The Ramones would be one of my last choices if I did want to buy music. (I'm a Beatles and The Eagles kind of person.) I called the Tech Support person who put me on hold for almost 45 mins. to no avail. She finally gave me the Apple phone number; yes, they were closed. I am worried sick. Why isn't there a "DELETE" button or an "Are you sure you want to purchase this?" button before you sign your budget away? I remember seeing an advertisement for "The Ramones" but I sure as heck didn't press, poke, or push on it. I am completely and totally whacked out. I'll never be able to sleep tonight. Has anyone else ever done something even remotely as stupid as this? I put my phone away and am afraid to even make a call. Hhheeeellllppp!

  • Can you recommend a good source for learning about the Environment

Rather than post a bunch of obviously uninformed thread topics, I would really appreciate some recommendation of some books, DVDs, online vids, etc.
I've figured out and executed some of the basics such as playing the arpeggiator and the midi delay, and recording the output of the arpeggiator/delay to a track, but, obviously, there's a whole lot more (understatement of the year so far?)
The environment seems to be a snakepit of danger - don't want to screw up any projects.
Any recs would be greatly appreciated.

  • Where can I learn about Laptop hardware/ram/etc information?

First off: I had no idea how to phrase the above question.  Sorry if I categorized it wrong...
    Here's my predicament:
I was thinking of downloading/purchasing Adobe Creative Suite 6 Production Premium... However, I read the tech specs for it and was immediately frightened!  I have literally no comprehension whatsoever of Laptop hardware/processor/ram related things.  Does anyone know a good website that can explain those things (EVERYTHING) to me?  I don't want to buy/download something that won't work on my laptop!
Sorry if that was really confusing.  I can explain more details if anyone needs.
Here's the website that I was looking at in case anyone wants to check it out... (to walk me by each term and what not JK)
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/production/tech-specs.edu.html
    Please help!

If you want to access to the hardware you have on your Mac, you have "System Information" or "System Profiler" app on your computer. This application is stored on /Applications/Utilities, and you can access here to see a complete report of all the hardware and all your apps.
Just open that app and compare your hardware with the requirements of that application. Note that a 64-bit processor is a Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Xeon, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor.
As you have posted this on the MacBook Pro forum, you must note that you need a 15 or a 17-inch MacBook Pro to run that application. If you have a 13-inch one, you can't run it because your MacBook Pro doesn't meet the graphic card requirement of that application

  • Learning about 3D Maths for 3D graphics

    Hello everybody,
I'd like to learn about 3D Maths so that I can learn about 3D graphics programming. I've been searching around the Internet for guides and have found some. I've learned a bit from what I've found on the net such as matrix arithmetic and vectors etc. These two things are apparently key to 3D graphics. Thus far however I've been unable to put all this stuff together in order to create something as simple as, say, a 3D rotating wire frame box (that old chestnut). Does anybody here have any good links to websites which may set me in the right direction regarding 3D graphics/Maths? I'll be very grateful for any help. Thanks a lot.

Ah, back in the day when real programmers coded protected mode managers and 3D engines. And we liked it that way! Or course, we were still too wussy to walk uphill in the snow. That was for old geezers. :P
My favorite 3D tut was the one by KiwiDog, last spotted at Raven software. Check it out here:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Get a copy of "Tricks of the Game Programming Gurus" if you can find it. That book contains practically every formula you'd ever need for 2D and 3D work. Plus, it's fun to read. :-)
Does anyone else think we should start a petition to either have the book reprinted or released into public domain?

have been a Verizon customer since I got my first cell phone in my 30's - I am 50 now! A year ago, I stupidly opted to get a new phone on the EDGE program because I was trying my first Samsung device and was not sure I would like it having been an IPhone user for years.I was right! Or so I thought.... The Note 3 has been horrible. I am on my second phone(replaced it under warranty) and it still freezes, shuts off on its own, and will not come back on for long periods of time. Having had enough, I decided to EDGE Up to another device. On March 16th I tried to edge up my device online but was unable to. I immediately called to figure out what the problem was. Back in October I had a mix up in my billing where I had set up a payment. It was not done properly by customer service and as a result my line was cut off. I called the EXACT day it went off, filed a complaint about the lack of follow through for my arranged payment, and thought I had it straightened out as the payment was made that same day. That incident, although it was a Verizon error, caused my Edge Contract to be "hotlined". I spent an hour on the phone on March 16th clearing the whole mess up. When the conversation ended, the Verizon representative admitted it was a Verizon error, documented everything, and then told me she was filing a release for the hotline hold that would take a couple of days. Her name was Linda and I stupidly trusted what she said.
The days passed as I prepared to have a major foot surgery and to get my classroom straight before I would be out recovering for 3 weeks. All the time, my Samsung continued to glitch out like it has since I got it! While sitting on the couch recovering, I decided to deal with the phone issue again and EDGE UP. I figured 10 days latter, Linda would have taken care of the issue. Unfortunately, I faced the same problem and was told it was not eligible to edge up at this time. BACK on the phone again, 2 supervisors, 3 customer service reps. ( JOE from New York being the rudest customer service rep. I have EVER worked with) and 4 frustrating HOURS latter, Jason, the equally rude supervisor from Rochester, New York, informed me that Linda gave me BAD information, there was NOTHING he could do, and I am NOT eligible until April 14th!!!!! The WORST experience I have EVER had with a company. They were completely inept, rude, and not concerned about my time, my frustration, or the problems I was facing with their product in the LEAST. I have 4 LINES on Verizon that I am going to talk to Sprint about buying out. It was a horrible experience, and I can NOT believe I have no recourse or anyone to talk to....

Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

  • Does anyone know about a Lemon Law on cell phones

HHello I would like to know if anyone knows about a 'lemon Law' on new cell phones that have had to be replaced 4 times now.  Verizon keeps wanting to send me a Like New Refurbished    cell phone. And after going thru so much with these cellphones, I don not want another like-new one. I have the Samsung -s4 and have had nothing but problems with it. I read Verizon contract about replacements and it says that they can send you " A new one, a Like-new refer ones , or ones that is like the first new one. But all I keep getting from then is we can only send you a  Refurbished one. Not Cool! I have been going round and round with Verizon for over two weeks now spending hours on the phone not counting the 5 hours I spent in town at the Verizon store. So if anyone could please help me to see how I can go about getting a New Samsung s4 or better instead do someone else's give backs I would be so ever Grateful to you. Agape P. Craig

        Hello P.Craig,
I'm definitely saddened to learn of the issues that you're having with your device. We always want your device to meet your expectations. When it comes to replacements under warranty, the manufacturer of your device (Samsung) does offer replacement for the same make/model. I do apologize for the troubles with your device. Although we would be unable to offer a new or alternate device, we may have an alternative option. Have you attempted to reach out to Samsung directly http://bit.ly/VTrvxQ for assistance? Please keep us posted, thanks!

I have a new iPhone 5S.  While trying to learn about it, I accidentally recorded a voice memo with no content.  I cannot now figure out how to get rid of it.  There is a banner across the top of my phone with this memo which I don't want.  I have deleted it from iTunes but cannot get it off the phone.  Help!

The banner usually indicates that the memo is "Paused." If you go back into voice memos, touch the word "Done" beside the big red pause button, give it a name, then it will show in a list. Touch the memo in the list then touch the trash can icon that should appear.

  • How can you get a java program working on a cell phone?

I was thinking of making some stuff for cell phones so i was wondering how you get a normal java program to work on cells.

its all j2me - midlet package....Huh? The jsr-118 MID profile alone has 11 packages, one of which is javax.microedition.midlet. Notj2me - midlet.
works best on nokia phones.Sez who? You seem to be confusing Java ME with Symbian C.
you can use net beans midlet packge add-on.Only it's called the NetBeans Mobiliity Pack.
Its easy to use and has lots of tutorials.Ditto for the Wireless toolkit for CLDC.
just search on google.Yes, but with which keywords?
    @OP:
NetBeans mobility pack comes with a short tutorial and several samples, you also need to download the latest WTK as the ver. 2.2 which comes bundled with NetBeans is just too buggy to work with. Then there are the manufacturer-specific SDKs from Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and (maybe) others.
If and when you get started in Java ME aka j2me, it will be appropriate to post any questions you might have on the mobility forums, not here.
Google "j2me tutorial" for many good hits.
    luck, db

  • What Does Your Cell Phone Color Say About You??

If you’ve read my bio you’ve probably noticed that I am a huge fan of the color pink, including my pink BlackBerry cell phone.  I’ve been told that my choice of pink for my cell phone is due to my girly, playful and innocent nature - and would have to agree that sounds about right.  What is your cell phone color and what do you find it says about you?

My phone is a blue LG Chocolate Flip.  I think that my cell phone says that I love the color, I dont like qwerty phones because I find them to be boxy (that's just me).  I prefer a flip for some reason!  It also has a really good camera for a phone and I am a total shutterbug!

  • Just curious, want to learn about XServe, nodes, etc.

    Hi,
I don't know hardly anything about servers or how they work. I'd like to learn about what servers do, why they need to be powerful, what nodes are, and just about everything. I am hoping someone can point me to a site or article of some sort that could get me started.
    Thanks,

You are surely in 100% correct direction because you are reading the books which millions of DBAs reads.

  • Connecting laptop to internet via cell phone

I heard i can use my cell phone to connect my laptop to the internet, i currently have a lg envy touch , with a 25 megabyte plan which would not be enough as I am wanting to get rid of current dsl plan and wanting to use my wireless plan as my only paid source of internet connection in my home.
I can upgrade plan to unlimited for 29.99 per month which is what i currently pay for my home dsl.  I was told by verizon rep i could use a smartphone ( droid/ droid incredible) to set up a wireless connection in which i could also use my ipod and nintendo dsi to connect to internet as well at the same time as the laptop.
So my thinking is i add another line to my 2100 minute family plan for additional monthly cost of 9.99 get the droid for 199.99 with the unlimited plan of 29.99 bringing my total monthly bill to 170.00 minus taxes. I currently only use about 900-1000 minutes but the savings of dropping minutes just doesnt seem worth it to me as I have children on my plan and their minutes will increase at some point and I would rather be locked in to a plan that gives me more than needed.
So I am wondering if others on this forum could give me their opinion/advise?
Does anyone else use the unlimited 29.99 plan as their only source of internet connection? and how fast/slow etc?
If it matters I will be using the internet connection in Pasadena Texas and mainly we use the internet for general searches on basic info, job searches, facebook,  ipod music, no gaming or anything complicated, just a typical basic internet family use.
    Thank you so much!
    Shannon

In addition to the unlimited $29.99 data plan, you would also need a $29.99 tethering plan, so it would cost you $60 a month - and the connection would not be as good as your DSL.  And we use our DSL to connect to a router and have several laptops and desktops using our DSL, which would not work with a tethered connection.  My advice - skip the tethering and keep the DSL.
