Soure system in Bw development

Hi all,
Right now our BW development system (BW1) is connected R/3 Development(R/3D).
We need some additional data which is not in R/3D. So we are planning to connect our BW1 to R/3 quality system(R/3Q).
I ahve gone thru some posts and gathered some information. Can anyone please correct these.
1. Create a source ssystem connection in BW1- we need basis help because awe need all the RFC connections information.
2. You need to assign infosources to newly created source system(R/3Q) and create transfer rules accordingly.
3. what else do I need to take care???
Basically I am trying to pull data form R/3 Q to a ODS in BW1. Can I do Delta init's ?
If I do Delta init's is that ok ifor teh same delat load n BW2(Bw quality) ?
or Do I need to do only full loads in BW1 if there already existing Delat init from R/3Q to BW2(Bw quality)????
Plase let me know......
Thank you very much.....

Hi Abhi,
Its not a problem to have two R/3 source systems connected to the one BW system and you can still do delta loads as the delta's queues etc are source system dependent. 1. Yes you will need help from your Basis Team to setup the source system connection from the BW system to the R/3 source system. 2 If the data flow will be the same between BW1 and R/3Q then you may not need to create the source system dependent objects like infopackages, transfer rules etc again, it may be possible to transport the datasources from R3D to R3Q and  copy the source system dependent objects to a transport request and import them to BW1 again after you create the source system connection from BW1 to R/3Q, the procedure to copy the source system dependent objects for this would be similar to the following :
RSA1
Transport Connection
Button 'Collection mode'  set to 'start manual collection'
Press 'Source system assignment' button (it's the one left of the
'Request BEx' button)
Select the source systems you want to save the transfer rules for
Continue
Button 'Grouping' set to 'Save for system copy'
At the left border click on 'Object Types'
Extend tree  'Source system' LSYS
Double click on 'Select objects'
Select the source systems you want to collect objects for
the source system is now displayed in the right box
Press collecting button ('gather dependent objects')
this may take a while
Right click on the root of the tree and select
Transport all below
Expand the whole tree and check if there isn't an object which is locked
by an other open transport request !!
(the column 'Transport request' has to be empty !)
Press the transport button
=> A transport request is created. Check if the request contains all
ISMP and ISTS objects.
Release the request
3. The main thing to take note of is that you name the RFC connections correctly and you
have them pointing to the correct R/3 source system...the note 886102 may also be of interest
to you and your Basis Team as it explains how to do system copies in the BW environmewnt.
Best Regards,
Des.

  • BI Production as a source system on BI Development

We have a requirement to make the Production BI environment as a source system on the Development BI environment. This is required with a view to make greater live data available in a particular cube on the Development box to aid in future enhancements
The same Production BI environment is again reaquired as a source system on the Quality BI environment. This is required with a view to make greater live data available in a particular cube on the Quality box to help in testing/UAT activity
My question is that corresponding to the source system BI PROD on BI DEV and source system BI PROD on BI QA.  What can I keep as a source on BI PROD itself. Can/should BI PROD itself be the corresponding source system on BI PROD ? Is it technically feasible. What are the pros and cos/risks of such a design design

    Hello,
You can add the BW production system as a source system in the DEV and QA system without any problem. I don't believe there is any need to attache the production system as a source to itself, this connection alrady exists (the so called myself connection), if you goto RSA1 and under source system you will find a source system connection for production that points to it self, this is used for all internal datamart loads that might occur in the production system itself. Therefore there is no need to add the system again with a connection to itself.

  • How many systems in Java Development landscape?

For our J2EE development, we have installed a system with the JDI that we also classify as our Dev system.  Our QA system would be the test system.
But in the setup of NWDI systems, there is Dev, Consolidation, Test, Prod.  Can the NWDI/Dev system also be the consolidation system?  We don't really want to introduce 4 systems because our development activity is relatively simple.  I'm still thinking with an ABAP/STMS mind and trying to make the assimilations of how we've done it in ABAP for 10 years can translate to doing the same thing with a Java development environment.

  • ESA system and Netweaver developer studio

    hi
how can i  connect to ESA system from Netweaver developer studio?
is there a tutorial i can learn from?
    thanks

    hi guy,
there is no such thing like a "ESA system". ESA(Enterprise Service Architecture) or more precisely SOA(service oriented architecture) is an idea or a paradigm, describing a kind of IT-architecture(application level) capable to meet a number of today's challenges of heterogenous system landscapes (find yourself some kick-start literature to get familiar with SOA/ESA principles).
This said, you can't "connect to ESA System" from NWDS, but you can develop software(e.g. services) in NWDS to be deployed to a system that resembles a service oriented architecture, for instance SAP Netweaver, which adds enterprise level features (scalability, stability, sw lifecycle management, ...) to it's SOA blueprint nd therefore calls it ESA.
    hope this clarifies some things,
    anton

  • What are the system requirements to develop ipad apps?

So I'm in the Apple store with $10k burning a hole in my pocket. I am a windows developer and now want to start developing mobile apps for the ipad and iphone that will go as far as magazines with video.
But no-one has a clue what system I need. The only thing they will say is...anything that runs snow leopard.
Well, that's a bit of an issue. I need something with some obvious horsepower in ram and on the harddisk. Since apple manages memory and code differently than a windows machine, I have no idea what to buy. Do I need a dual processor or not?
So I'm in the store and I register online to the ios sdk, because they are quoting a readme document that details the full system requirements. But it's nowhere to be found. I am then told that I have to download the whole sdk to get access to this readme document. Funny, but I haven't bought the system yet to download it to.....chicken and egg, right?
So can someone out there please tell me how much it's going to cost to get into the game, to create the magazines with video content, similar to National Geographic? I don't want to buy some cheap leopard machine only to find out that I can't upgrade the memory or that I have to get a different machine because what I bought was inadequate for my applications, because it wasn't fast enough to process etc....
To develop a magazine with video and photo content, similar to National Geographic, what system do I need to purchase, and what are the exact specs on memory and processors etc....
    thanks!

I know nothing about iOS; however, the best machine, IMO, would be the new 27" i7 iMac. Get 3rd-party RAM to go to 16 GB, and get the video card update. Whether or not you want an SSD is a personal choice. For me, it's not worth the cost, just get a 2 TB internal HD. That's all the hand-holding I can offer.

  • Is a system copy to development a best practice?

("Refresh", as I use it here, refers to a system copy.)
We typically refresh our sandbox and pre-production test systems from production. Not often, since its a non-trivial amount of work (although our functional/business teams don't seem to realize that  ), but we've got the process down. The production DBs also total around 8-9 TB, and its not practical to store too many copies of that. The full environment includes the core ERP 6 system (HR, PY, FI, CO, parts of PLM), SRM 5, BI 7, and two portals (employee and vendor), each with development, QA/test, pre-production, and production.
We have never refreshed our development environment, mainly since that version history and test data.
We recently had a project consultant request that we refresh development from production, and claim doing so was a "best practice". The project might significantly reconfigure FI, but everything else is out of scope.
Although refreshing the development system/environment can be done, should it be? What kind of circumstances might make it a good idea? Is it considered it a "best practice" by others? Why?
(Cross posted to the [ASUG Systems Management forum|http://hosted.jivesoftware.asug.com/community/sig_communities/business_integration__technology_%26_infrastructure/systems_management_sig].)
    Thanks,
       Dave

Well i cannot view the ASUG discussion but here is my 2 cents:
    cons:
    - versions history has to be saved prior to copy
    - cost (additional disk space, backups, cpu/memory)
    - the production data will age pretty fast, so the copy has to be done on a regular basis
    - lots of interfaces to other systems will have to be corrected, risk of connecting to prod systems during the copy process
    - the dev system will be unavailable for several days during the copy
    pros:
    - real data on the prod system, no need to manually generate data
    - most performance issues can be discovered at design time, given the hardware is comparable to the prod system
In my opinion regularly copying the prod system to dev is not best practice. Personally i would never do it because of the cost and amount of work needed to do it.
    Best regards, Michael

  • System Landscape (Dual Development System)

    Dear SAP Experts,
We have Two-System Landscape(DEV-PRD) Whereas cross-client data is used in both the Customizing and quality assurance clients.
Currently, our company, just merged with another non-SAP-using company. The First move is to implement FI module and subsequently, all modules that we are now using.
My boss discussed with me if we could create another DEV server for company B to use for their customizing  and QA clients as not to impenge on our already customized set up.
Please advise if this set up is possible, and if not, Can anyone kindly give an advise how to approach my problem?
I'll give good points for the help that i can get.
    Best Regards,
    Jay

You can do this.  We currently have two Dev environments one for projects based on NetWeaver integration with our ECC systems and one for regular development / run and maintain.
I suggest doing a system copy of your development and rename the SID / hostname were it appears in the profiles and home directories for UNIX platforms.   Then perform post steps for SE06, printers, profiles, RFC etc...
For Microsoft install a CI instance and do a database copy to have current data.  Then do post copy steps in SAP.
Although SAP suggests not to refresh Development systems, we do it at least once a year to get current applicaiton data.
Think of it as a sandbox.
If you don't want to integrate your data with the new system, skip the database copy portion for Microsoft and do a fresh install for Unix.
    Hope this helps.

  • (realistic) system requirements for development environment under Forms 11g

    Hello !
How are the realistic system requirements for a complete development environment
    under Forms 11g (Forms11g/Reports11g/Weblogic-Server) ?
From our experience there is a problem with the RAM-limitation of Windows 32 bit !
Is there anybody to exchange his experiences ...
    Thanks in advance !

The Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4 will officially support Oracle Linux 5,6 when it releases later this year.
Since Oracle  Linux is based on RHEL, Oracle Solaris Studio should work on RHEL.
Support customers may report issues against RHEL and the Oracle Solaris Studio team will do its  best to address these issues but fixes are not guaranteed.
Oracle Solaris Studio components such as compilers and command line tools do not require Java.  If you install the product using the Oracle Solaris Studio Installer in non-interactive mode you can install the Solaris Studio product without having Java on your system though the installer will issue a warning message if Java is not found on the system.  Alternately you can install the product using the tar file distribution if Java is not installed. If you install via the tar file, it is not possible to install patches later.

  • Error message getting displayed in testing system not in development system

    Hi All,
I am working on BW 3.5 BEx Query Designer.
I have transported my queries to quality system twice as there were few changes in the variables.
now after the second transports, when I execute the queries in quality system I am getting one error message at the top of report output stating "variable name" does not exist.
I am not able to trace out why the error message is getting displayed while query is working fine in quality system.
If it is due to some variable that has been removed or deleted....will it impact on production move?
    how to resolve this problem?
    Please provide me some inputs.
    Thanks,
    Rashmi.
Edited by: Rashmi on Aug 6, 2008 1:29 PM

    Rashmi,
Once again Create transport request in RSA1 ans while creating it you need to collect the all the query element.
Transport it again into quality and do the testing as per the business requirment
It would help to resolve the issue

But its seen in the BI folder and does not reflect all the datasources when replicated.
i tried deleting it several times and recreated it. But it still shown within the BI source system folders, why?
Has someone faced this kind of surprising behavior? please suggest if i m missing out on something.
