South America travel: no adapter in "kit"

I'll be traveling to Chile soon. There's no adapter in the "world travel adapter kit" for South America. What's the best way to charge the battery in my PB?
Thanks. Tyler

Best bet is to borrow a figure of 8 cable from someone when you get there )if poss) or buy one. They are not too expensive and if you take your adapeter with you you can make sure to get one that fits.
Might be a reason why there is not a specific one. Take a look here and see if you already have what you need

Good luck.

Go to Radio Shack and see what they have.
I carry a US extension cord so I can plug in multiple devices at the same time so I only need one adapter for the extension cord per area that I travel. Just be sure that you can plug in you Apple power adapter long cord to the extension cord. Another reply directed you to a source of great info. One thing that is sure in my experience, at times some countries have more than one type of plug. There are times that the actual wall sockets are designed to accept round and spade plugs.

  • International travel (South America/Chile) and adapter/converter questions

I am traveling to Chile in South America and want to make sure I will be safe using my macbookpro with just a simple adapter (no power converter) - http://shop1.frys.com/product/1769498?site=sr:SEARCH:MAINRSLTPG
I understand the the plug and adapter that came with the computer should allow an input range of 110 - 240 (Chile is 220) but I have read on forums of people's notebook getting fried.
Anybody know what else I could get to be safe or should I be ok with just a standard adapter?

I go to Santiago annually and all you need is the round pin adapter. If you have any dollar stores in your neighborhood look there first as several of them where I live (my neighbourhood is pretty ethnically diverse) sell them for 99 cents.

Most of the current Apple Intel based computers are comparable in CPU speed. I don't think it is so much the model of laptop as it is the memory, and storage capacity of the machine. If you are going to use FCP on a regular basis, perhaps as a professional or semi-professional, then you should think about the maximum memory and a very large capacity internal disk drive. For instance, one hour of finished compressed video will take up about 1.5 to 2Gbytes of disk space. If you add up the raw footage and still imagery and audio, you'll use up your disk drive capacity real quick. So a hard disk on the order of 750Gbytes @ 7200rpms might be good for video editing. 5400RPMs might be slow to rendering times. Rendering a video might take up a lot of memory so more memory is better e.g. 8Gbytes.
As a rule of thumb, once you get to about 80% of your disk drive or memory you'll see degradation of performance.
You can check out macsales.com. THey have a menu system that will allow you to pick and choose from various alternatives. BTW, it's been said that although Macs are typically spec'd at a certain memory size, macsales.com found that Apple computers will actually support higher memory levels. That is, if 4Gbytes are spec'd, some machines support 6Gbytes. macsales.com will provide the guidance for you.
You might also consider buying an external disk e.g. 500Gbytes to carry around with you for back-up or transport to another machine.

  • GPS maps to south america

Hello i am from uruguay south america. Blackberry maps doesnt have uruguay as a coverage area, does anyone know where can i found a software that allow me to use gps with voice step by step to go from one direction to other. Thank you very much

You typically will need a SIM card for the country you are travelling in. If you don't, then you may encounter roaming charges.
You may want to contact your current SIM providor, Optus, and see if they have service in the South American countries you are going to visit.

  • Can I use my iPhone 4S in South America?

I'm traveling to Peru in April - Will I be able to call back to the US from my Iphone 4S? Will I be able to text? What are the costs / process involved? Thanks for any / all help!

Your best value would be to get your iPhone 4S unlocked by Verizon so  you could use a local SIM card once you get down to South America.
If you would not like to use a local SIM card, you can go HERE for an overview of Verizon's Global services and HERE to see what the cost would be for Verizon Global services while on you trip. For example, in Brazil, the cost/minute for calling would be~$2.00, $25/100MB of data allowance, $0.50 for texts sent and $0.05 for texts received. Using a local SIM card would most likely be MUCH less expensive.
You need to contact Verizon Global Services at 1-800-711-8300 if you would like to get your phone unlocked. Also, for an iPhone, after you insert the international SIM in your device, you will then see a prompt on the phone to connect to iTunes. You will not be able to use the phone until it is activated again thru iTunes on your computer or thru a WiFi connection.

Yes, I did try to go on my settings>wifi and was waiting for any wifi signals to pick up, but nothing shows up. But on my PC I get a whole list of networks to choose from. Regarding my neighbor, I already have her password that is why I was able to get it on my PC, the problem is that the mini Ipad is not picking any signal neither can it locate me when I go to maps.

  • Need to send Aperture library to client in South America

I need to get a whole Aperture library containing images and an Aperture book folders to a client in South America.
Today I have already successful transferred the library from an external hard disk that used Tiger, to my new computer's admin account that that uses Leopoard, then transferred it over successfully to a separate user account in the client's name.
I had originally planned to use GoToMyPC for the first time, to allow client restricted access of my computer for their account only, but GoToMyPC won't only allows global access to all accounts.
    - I then tried YouSendIt (file too large as it's 2.61GB and limit is 1GB)
    - Tried 'Cute Send It' as it has a 4GB limit (allowed me to select the file but constantly stalled on 'calculating time')
    - I then tried ShareFile - (everything looked promising as it had 10GB limit, signed up for the 30 free day trial with my credit card details, then when I went to select the library from my desk top it was 'grayed out').
... anyone else got any suggestions?
Any help much appreciated as it's urgent now as I've been at it all day!

For the remote desktop solution you could try:
    1) Adobe's [ConnectNow|http://www.adobe.com/acom/connectnow>. This is a screen-sharing service which might fit your requirements but (1) it requires you to initiate a session so requires some input your side, and (2) I'm not sure what would happen if you switched user away from the account on your Mac you enabled for your client (i.e. would the connection die)?
    2) Apple's [BackToMyMac|http://www.apple.com/mobileme/features/mac.html] service is a screen and file sharing function that comes as part of a MobileMe subscription. It would allow your client to access your Mac computer (if s/he also has a Mac) but I suspect again it might not fit your requirements as it's really meant as a solution to share your own computers (and not to share with third parties)...you would need to share your MobileMe details with the client.
Alternatively if you just want to send them the files:
    1) Again, as part of Apple's MobileMe, the [iDisk|http://www.apple.com/mobileme/features/idisk.html] service allows you to share storage space with third parties. Crucially, from a security perspective, you do not need to share your whole storage space but can select certain files or zipped folders to be shared (these can also be protected with a password).
    2) Another option - and this is very old school I know - might be to just ship them the project/library on DVD (unless they don't have an Apple computer nor an Aperture licence)? I have an FTP server in my studio but for large deliveries of TIF files of over 2GB the process is painfully slow (for the client) and I usually just end up couriering them a DVD!

  • Can the 3G service in an ipad be used in south america where at&t or verizon do not have services?

I want to buy a new ipad that will be mainly used in south america where at&t and verizon do not offer services. Can the 3G option be used with a local carrier?

Yes, but before you purchase, make sure you know whether the carriers in South America are GSM (AT&T model) or CDMA (Verizon).  GSM is much more widely used around the world than CDMA.

  • Does a European iPhone 4 work in South America (Ecuador)

I have an iPhone 4, originally purchase in the UK, officially unlocked from the the original network operator (O2)
Can I use this in South America (specifically in Ecuador) where they run on 850/1900 GSM with a SIM purchased locally?
If not, is there anything I can do to enable the phone to run on 850/1900 band?
Many thanks in advance for any help

if it's not cdma then it should work as well as any phone bought in south africa
unless it's sim locked to a carrier in another country in which case you need to contact the carrier it's locked
to as to how or if they will unlock it

  • South America localization with comma decimal points

    Hello All:
I am doing a simple division on a formatted search. However it is south america localization and it has the comma as decimal point instead of period. If I just do value 1 / value 2 it give me error message. if I replace , and then cast to numeric and then divide it works. But put in a trigger by formatted search it comes out as a wrong monetary value. The UDF for the FS is a quantity value. Not monetary!
How does anyone do normal division and multiple with South America localization?
Thank you for all the help!

The field itself is actually a UDF of type Quantity. So using the quantity select $[$38.11.0]/$[rdr1.U_myfield]
I suppose for checks you can just divide quantity by price or something! But it doesn't seems  to work for me!
