That is a pretty old kernel.  Fortunately, it is an LTS kernel, so is not end of life.  It makes me wonder if you have tried the LTS 3.4 kernel.  What is nice about that one is that it is in the AUR, with a nice sane config (the old Arch config I believe), and it is getting some degree of maintenance.
You might also want to try going the other way... that is, pull the package from [testing] which is 3.10.1 and see if that might change anything.

  • HI i need help overclocking my acer aspire 5750-6872 can some one help me do this?

Hi, i download the extreme tuning utility program, it tells me all the information that i need to know about the laptop but it does not let me use the manual tuning feature. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem, and can help me figure out what is going on. I also have the intel turbo boost monitoring tool. (which is kind of useless at this point) The laptop is a acer aspire 5750-6872 intel core i5-2430M 2.4GHz with turbo boost up to 3.0GHz (can i use the turbo boost manually or is it automatic) I would also like to manually tune the graphic options as well, its a intel HD Graphics 3000, up to 1760 MB Dynamic video memory.

    M325i,
The turbo boost function is automatically controlled by the operating system, it is not something that can be manually operated.
I do not believe there is any way to manually adjust the amount of video RAM to be used, other than in the BIOS, but even that is going to be limited on how much you could possibly set it to (if any adjustment at all), I believe it is dynamically done by the operating system as well.

  • Acer Aspire Switch 10E - unable to boot, no keyboard

    Hello everyone,
I have recently bought an Acer Aspire Switch 10E to do my terrain work, and would love to be able to run Linux on it. I'm running into one problem after another though (most likely because some things aren't officially supported yet, but I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences who might be able to help me out. To cut the long story short, from my own experience, I'm sure Linux can run on this.
In any case, the machine features a quad-core Intel Atom CPU (which should work AFAIK), with Intel HD graphics (which should also work flawlessly AFAIK). It also features a Realtek RTL8273BS WiFi network card (haven't got to trying it out, but my guesstimate is that it requires some proprietary firmware, since it didn't work on Ubuntu live). It has a 1280x800 touchscreen (which worked flawlessly on Ubuntu live), and a dockable keyboard (now that one boggles me). This is just a quick "tldr" version of what the machine is supposed to be. It's basically a 64-bit x86-compatibile tablet PC with a dockable keyboard and which shipped with Windows 8.1.
Okay, so first things first. The Acer Aspire Switch 10E has a 32-bit UEFI, and there is no possible way of booting an OS (live or otherwise, Linux or otherwise) which only has a 64-bit EFI image. There is no legacy BIOS on the motherboard, so (to whom it may concern), don't even bother with online tutorials that tell you to switch to legacy BIOS, as there is no way to enable it. On the other hand, a valid 32-bit EFI image will boot, even in Secure Mode, so don't bother disabling that either. In other words, there is absolutely no need to change anything in the UEFI setup in order to boot Linux, apart from adding your 32-bit EFI image to a trusted list.
Thus, in order to boot any live Linux media, it is (TTBOMK) required to either generate a working 32-bit EFI image, or use an existing one. It took me a while to figure that out, on top of the time to figure out how to generate my own 32-bit EFI image, without breaking something. Bear with me here - this is the first machine I ever owned that features an UEFI, let alone an UEFI without legacy BIOS.
Here is the stuff I found, which I was able to use to get to this point:
UEFI GPT Arch Linux USB (bootx64.efi and bootia32.efi) - Taylorbyte.com
Acer Aspire Switch 10 can't boot 14.04 LTS - Ubuntu Forums
From Ubuntu forums, I learned about this and this, both of which have bootable 32-bit EFI images, which work on Ubuntu live. Those, however, did not work with Arch Linux, for some reason, so I generated my own EFI images from the tutorial found on Taylorbyte.com. Not absolutely sure if I did it right however, since the tutorial seemed a bit dated, but it did get me into the basics I needed.
So, I now have a bootable USB drive with Arch Linux installed on it, with both 32-bit and 64-bit EFI images. My Acer Aspire 10E recognises the 32-bit EFI image and boots into GRUB loader from it, which asks me whether to boot into Arch Linux or Arch Linux Fallback. At this point, my keyboard still works, and I can choose either.
However, as soon as I choose Arch Linux to boot, it complains about being unable to boot from "UUID=<my USB's UUID>", and drops me into a boot console. The cursor blinks, but the keyboard input is not recognised at all.
I have recompiled the kernel for my live Arch USB (via makepkg -o and makepkg -e) as stated on the Ubuntu forums (setting HID_MAX_USAGE = 65536 in a certain header file in the kernel sources), but it didn't do much. The kernel still compiles, so I guess that's a plus.
Without keyboard, I am unable to install Arch on this machine, and I'm currently stuck with this error, which I'm not sure what to make of. I have never stated any UUID's while configuring my Arch live USB, so I suppose something is detecting it automatically, thus preventing Arch from booting (no idea what it could be, though).
So to conclude, I need help with booting Arch live USB on this machine, as well as getting keyboard to work. I have read here and there some people had some success with either Arch, Fedora or Ubuntu, and I've seen (32-bit) Debian 8.1 installer boot normally - without keyboard or wifi, though.
Any help regarding this would be very much appreciated.

Hi Marc, Thanks for the swift response.  I'm not sure if Acer (Philippines) will be able to give the necessary support since they are only selling the Switch 10 (not even Switch 11! So backwards!) . I don't mind reinstalling the file from time to time as long as it will fix the problem asap. Would it be possible to know how often you reinstalled the exe file to fix the problem?  One more thing, the only thing that's hindering on buying the Switch 12 are problems like these (since we don't have the tech support yet). Would it be possible for you to send me the fix for the keyboard problem? Thank you very much! ++ How's the experience when you are using it on your lap, let say when travelling on a plane ? Is the built stable enough that it won't stumble that easily?

  • Help with Acer Aspire 4339 update. PLEASE HELP.

Okay, I'm already sick and tired of Acer. Since my warrenty is expired, I had to deal with terrible scam site called answersby.com that Acer RECOMMENDED. I cannot believe that they would actually share this TERRIBLE website to their customers. First of all, the live chat service only directed me to the same technician that would'nt reply to ANYTHING that I said. Not only that, the website itself is buggy and whenever when you try to send feedback, you'd have to click it like 6 times in order for it to send. Ha, and get this! There's many many people telling how that website scams people entirely.  Anyways, diving into the CORE of my situation is that recently, I tried playing Sims 3, on this terrible laptop, and my drivers are outdated.  (Horrah!) So I was like, okay, let's update. Come to find out, the updated drivers are 2011 which I don't even know why. Yes, yes I know. Acer Aspire 4339, so so old. But in order to actually download most things, you aren't able to update the Intel Graphics since it's customized by Acer.  (Great!) *sarcasm* Also, whenever I try to update my chipset with the lovely Intel Update utility, I'm slapped in the face with errors. Went to Acer and my product, I can't download the chipset? I don't know. I'm confused on why there's OUTDATED software for Acer Aspire 4339. Not only that, I need an UPDATED version of Intel HD Graphics. The latest driver is literally from 2011. Come on. Why would the video card even be customized by Acer????  Ugh, if ANYONE can find me an UPDATE for Intel HD Graphics on the Intel website thank you, you've saved me from ripping my hair out.  Since there isn't any updates, I won't be able to run MODERN gaming software on this computer.  My Computer specs: Intel Celeron(R) CPU P4600Windows 7  Professional 32-bit (Pretty sure that's all you need.)  My GPU is integrated, too. Since it's a laptop. I need to bypass this OUTDATED driver and get one at LEAST in 2012 and later. I tried so hard to avoid this forum, but Acer pushed me too far and now I'm here. So please, save my hair before I rip it out from the frustration that lovely Acer has given me.

bypassing custom Intel drivers is easy. check on programs/features if any Intel VGA drivers is listed and uninstall, if not...go to device manager, choose display adapters, right click your Intel VGA and choose to uninstall, deleting software drivers too. at next reboot, probably windows will be low res  but you will be able to install the latest Intel original VGA drivers.

  • Can't complete a clean installation of WIN 7 PRO on an Acer Aspire 4738

    Hello,
If any one could help me with this problem i would really appreciate it.
I have an Acer Aspire 4738-6888 (icore 5, 3GB RAM, 500GB HD), it was running win 7 ultimate 32 bits but started working erratically so i decided to perform a clean installation. HD was formatted entirely.
Then tried installing WIN 7 PRO 64 bits from a DVD, but the installation program does not load and shows a kernel error oxc0000098
It is funny that if i use a WIN 7 PRO 32 bits DVD, the installation programs loads and starts, everything seems to run normally (HD partitions can be created and formatted, Files are expanded and configuration begins) but just after the third restart
when the assistant shows the message " preparing to run windows for the first time " the blue screen appears showing a "Memory_Management" error. Tried one more time but using a WIN 7 ULTIMATE 32 bits DVD with same results.
Finally, I tried using the "repair option" from the DVD and get this message:

    Hi GustavoCh,
What issue did you meet so you want to reinstall?
Could you please use the Windows install image to install Windows in other computer or virtual machine? So we can make sure this issue is not caused by the image.
I think this issue is related to hardware, please contact the manufacturer for better help.

  • Can anyone tell me how to update my bios in my Acer aspire 5610Z laptop. I installed Ubuntu Linux

I installed Ubuntu Linux in my Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop and all was fine until the latest updates came in. I inquired about the problem and I was told that I needed the newer version of bios. My laptop uses Pheonix WinPhlash bios and I cannot make it work through Ubuntu. Iwould appreciate any help that anyone might be able to give me. The keyboard does not work correctly and the person at Ubuntu assured me that it was the bios causing the problem. My laptop originally came with a Windows Vista installation disk. Thanks in advance.Rich S.

I had no problems with Ubuntu version 13. I started having problems with my keyboard after it upgraded to 14.04. I filed a bug / problem report with Ubuntu and I was told it was my out dated bios version 3.50. I went through hell trying to update it to bios version 3.60 but after many frustrating hours I finally ended up puting in Windows 2000 and updating WinPhlash through it. I had wiped my hard drive, reformatted it and it would no longer install Windows Vista. I can't figure that one out at all? After going through about two weeks of failure I finally got bios 3.60 installed. It did not change anything. The keyboard of the laptop worked just fine with Windows. When I put Ubuntu back it I had the same old ball game. I have to use a USB keyboard. I installed Ubuntu 15.04 (advice from my learned son) that produce no change either. Now, I had been going on the asumption that the fellow from Ubuntu knew what he was talking about since he assured me that it was a "buggy bios" version 3.50 causing the keyboard problem. I did a Google search only to find out that laptop keyboard problems are a very common thing with almost all versions of Ubuntu, especially version 14.04. I was told there is a Kernel 4.1 that may solve the problem but I do not understand Kernels very well and I fear I may mess things up and will have to start all over a again. I shall find out.

  • Acer aspire zs600 recovery error; "restore failed - can not find image path"

Recently the hard drive in my Acer Aspire ZS600 failed. I purchased a new hard drive and the recovery media disks from Acer's website. However after installing the new drive and running the recovery disks, the third and final disk ejects with the error message "Restore Failed - Can not fine image path: M:\RecoveryImage\install.wim" I have searched these forums as well as the farthest reaches my googling skills will allow and I have not found a solution that works. I am fairly certain it is not an issue with my hard drive, optical disk drive or the recovery media itself. Any insight on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

i presume that your new HDD was completly clean, you didn't format or create partition prior to use the Acer erecovery medias. in a past thread there was a similar issue and Acer-Justin found the solution, i sent him a PM.

  • Can't get internet on acer aspire one

    Hello
I just installed Arch Linux on my Acer Aspire One, after a while I lost ethernet connection, either dhcp or static IP adresses work, I've checked that all the IP adresses are correct when using static IP adress, the arch linux box on the network can't get any response from the netbook.
Anybody experiencing the same with this netbook?
EDIT: when I have looked at the ip adresses after trying with dhcp, it has completely different adresses than it should have.

  • Acer Aspire E13 : Suspend/Poweroff don't Work

    Hi !
I just got hold of a nice new laptop, An Acer Aspire E 13 (ES1-311-C1E8) and I've been running into a couple of issues.
I've already tried Ubuntu on this device and the issues are not present.
    Two Big ones really,
On Poweroff, it doesn't actually shut down, it seems to complete the shutdown process, the screen goes black, but the hard drive keeps spinning, and the power light remains on. Not entirely sure why.
The bigger issue is Suspend : On closing the lid, using the suspend button, using the power button, or using (sudo) pm-suspend, it just freezes. the /var/log/pm-suspend.log claims that the suspend succeeded but I cannot resume it from suspend (Tried every key on the keyboard, touchpad and power button)

    jman6495:
I had exactly the same problem with my Acer ES1-512 laptop. Tried a bunch of kernels, systemd versions, tried pm-utils, systemctl. Instantly freezed on suspend, and didn't turn off the computer neither with "systemctl poweroff", neither with "sudo poweroff".
A few days ago I've found the solution (or at least for my laptop): In the BIOS settings I had to disable the "xHCI support (external USB 3.0 controller)". Maybe not the best solution, but it works for me.
Also, it's worth mentioning that I disabled UEFI in the BIOS and using legacy mode instead (installed Arch this way).
    I hope this helps!

Have you tried "Run" instead of "Save?"
Do you have anti-virus software on the PC? If you do, try disabling the anti-virus for just 15minutes to allow the download to finish.
    Hope one of those helps.

Can anyone recommend a video card for an Acer Aspire X AXC-605-UR11 with stock 220 watt Power Supply?

Hi Shaun, here's some video card choices, but check which Mac Pro they work on, might even ask OWC for Motion details...
