Sox mp3 file format recognition issue.
I am trying to use 'play' command in 'sox' to play a mp3 file.
play XXX.mp3
will give me this error
play formats: no handler for detected file type `audio/mpeg; charset=binary'
but
play -t mp3 XXX.mp3
works fine.
Any clue for this problem?

Here's a PKGBUILD for the new version of SoX... it compiles but I haven't tried installing it on my production server.

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc
make || return 1
make DESTDIR=$pkgdir install || return 1
cd $pkgdir/usr/bin
rm -f rec
ln -sf play rec
I could maintain this package if need be... Either way, I would like to see this package updated to the current version so as to be compatible with file-5.

Record Audio in mp3 file format using FMS
I am Recording Audio Using FMS which will record Audio file in FLV File Format default But I like to Record in MP3 File Format. Is it Possible.
And I also Record Video In MP4 File Format using h264 encode. Which Give me Video File in MP4 File Format but When i will try to play that MP4 File it Didn't play. So, I post-processed video with a tool called F4V Post Processor. Now That MP4 Video File Play But Didn't Give me Sound in that Video.
My Code is:
var h264Settings:H264VideoStreamSettings = new H264VideoStreamSettings();
h264Settings.setProfileLevel(H264Profile.MAIN, H264Level.LEVEL_3);
ns.videoStreamSettings = h264Settings;
ns.publish("mp4:"+FILENAME+".mp4","record");
I search Lot but didn't get the solution. So, Please Give me Solution for Both thing.The .flv format is a "container" format, not a video format.
So that means that inside the container, you can have a video file and/or an audio file or even just an audio file.. which most likely is already an mp3 file. Use something like "FLV Extract" to break open the container and see:
http://moitah.net/
But really, for any Web delivery of audio, the .flv (audio only) method works just fine. Lots of media players available for the Flash .flv file.
For example:
Sounds from my bunk on the Lady Washington
http://exploreolympics.com/reports/?p=2857
Scroll down to third media player.
A little quiet to start with... but this is a .flv file with just an mp3 audio file inside.
Best of luck!

I just recently updated to the Creative Cloud and now when I'm trying to save my file in Photoshop to any file format other then PSD, it will randomly choose a file format that I didn't choose. For example, if I choose to save the file as a jpg, the file extension after the name at the top will say iff. No matter what I choose, nothing matches the file extension being shown at the top. So, I have to go through each file format to see which one will show the jpg extension. ANyone having this issue?
Hi there! Because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Photoshop General Discussion forum, where you'll get more specialized help.

Can jmf broadcast mp3 files?convert mp3 to wav format to enable streaming?
Hello... can jmf broadcast mp3 file format audio files.. so that it can accessible.. since it is playable... or does it require conversion to another for in audio in order for it to be streamed on LAN... Thanks and more power to JAVA..
Man, have you ever opened Logic before? If you had you would have noticed that these instructions are for Logic and yes you will obtain 44.1/16 files if you choose these options in the "copy/convert" menue.

This problem is relentless!
Recently my ATV is having a file format recognition problem when I attempt to play any content that is streamed between my iMac and ATV. (Note, this streaming was previously done over my AirPort Extreme wirelessly. I have since connected the ATV via ethernet directly to the AP Extreme--the iMac has always been ethernet connected. The change had no impact on the filr format error)
All of my media is stored on one of three external drives that are connected to my iMac.
The file format recognition problem goes away temporarily when I close and restart iTunes (8.2). So my new thoughts are that it is possible that my drives are spinning down (going to sleep) and then I go to use ATV to access the drive, but it has spun down.
Can anyone give me (a newb) some advice/instructions on how to prevent my drives from spinning down? I have downloaded NoSpin 3.3 (the trial version), but this doesn't appear to be preventing the drives from sleeping.
-ATV connected via ethernet to AirPort Extreme router
-iMac connected via ethernet to AP Extreme router
-Not syncing files, just streaming
-Media files located on three external drives: music, tv shows, movies
-I have recreated my iTunes library already.
-Problem existed even before the 2,4 upgrade. Thought the upgrade seems to have made it much worse.
-Restarting iTunes works, but only until the video finishes. when i try to play another, it gives the error.
Any thoughts?(Apologies for the above mis-post. Copy & Paste error)
Alright, great news! It seems the 'file format' issue has been resolved. I made two changes tonight, one intentional, the other not.
1. Installed 'Keep Drive Spinning' and set the app to touch each drive on 60 second intervals.
2. Rather than connecting directly to my iTunes library, I connected to another library. The second library was created during troubleshooting as many 'solutions' had suggested recreating the iTunes library. After the recreation of my library I still experienced the 'file format' error, but never did delete the excess library. It was this library to which I directed the ATV as a 'shared' library rather than the default (or primary) library.
I have now successfully watched four full TV Show episodes without experiencing any freezing or 'file format' errors.
If any readers have questions, please reply to this post. Also, I will continue to test this as a viable solution and will report any issues.

Which file format should i use?
I'm trying to decide on a file format that is high quality, but takes up less space than a 256 kbps AAC file. I'm currently considering going with a 224 kbps mp3 file format, but I'm not sure if this would cause a noticeable sound quality difference with the Apple earbuds or my computer speakers. Any reccomendations would be great.
Right, gonna have to stick my two pennies worth in here.
Considering HDD's are getting so big nowadays, encoding audio at a lower bit rate than max is a bit pointless. If you're going to encode, do it at the best possible quality. I've just done about 600 CD's and that's only about 43GB and that was encoded at 320kbps vbr joint stereo in mp3. Some people may scoff and say that vbr isn't very good, but I have to disagree. At those settings, the audio is as good as the original CD and I have a very good ear. Vbr will actually encode the optimum bitrate for the part of the track it is encoding, if there is a quiet part, it will be encoded at low bitrate to save space, but to your ears, you will not notice a thing. In general, vbr will bring the size of an encoded mp3 down, but still keep very good quality. -
I need to append to mp3 files into a single mp3 file.
let us say we have 1.mp3 and 2.mp3 then we need to append 1 and 2 into 3.mp3 so that the third mp3 file will play the first and then the second mp3 file.
but the sound api by sun does not support the mp3 file format so
AudioInputStream audioInputStream1= AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(fileIn);
is throwing an unsupported format exception.
but for wav files its working perfect by using the SequenceInputStream.
I need the same for the mp3 files also .Check out the tritonus mp3 plug-in.
http://tritonus.org/plugins.html
I believe that with it you can decode the mp3's and
append them as wav files. Then just encode the audio
back to mp3.

I've encoded a vinyl LP record into digital format and recorded it onto an usb as MP3 file. But when I tried to copy it onto my ipod classic, I get a message stating "was not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod". Why?
I was refering to the "sample rate", normally 44.1 KHz, the iPod might not be able to play tracks with a non-standard rate. Otherwise I'm not sure what the issue might be.

ITunes cannot open files in the "MP3 Audio File" format
Lately I've been getting this error that iTunes can't open MP3 files. It happens when I try to double click on an MP3, however, if I click and drag the MP3 into my iTunes library it opens fine. Not a huge problem....just a nuisance.
Running iTunes 10.0.1I suddenly have this same problem with MacOS 10.6.7 and iTunes 10.2.2. Clicking on a tune in a folder gets the prompt "The document xxxx.mp3 could not be opened. iTunes cannot open files in the MP3 audio format."
Dragging the tune into iTunes will open it, so there's no problem with it being a "trouble file" that needs validating with some external app. I believe this is a new glitch that came with iTunes 10.2.2. It's workable but quite irritating when trying to manage an iTunes library that includes 28,000-plus songs. -
Mp3 wont'play on 6111 - file format not supported
hi
i've just uploaded an mp3 file in the gallery of my 6111 phone.
i wanted to use it as ringtone, but when i try to open it, it complains "file format not supported".
the manual says my phone can play mp3 and aac, so what kind of mp3 will it play? i searched through the manual and the internet but i found nothing.
the file i've uploaded is an "ordinary" mp3, size 4,3 MB, bit-rate 192 kbps, stereo, 44,100 kHz and tag Id3 v2.4
maybe the problem could be the bit-rate?or id3 tag?
anyone knows more about it?
thanks everyoneHi
I recommend formatting the USB memory stick and other devices connected to the TV using the option provided in the TV settings.
Usually such recorded files can be played only on the TV.
Also take a look to user manual page 70.
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/file/product/manual/5187/55VL900A.pdf
There is a list of supported file formats.
According to the Toshiba User manual following formats are supported:
Avi, mpeg-2 PS, MPEG-2TS, MPEG-2 VOB, mov, mp4, asf -
File upload - issue with European .csv file format
All,
when uploading the .csv file for "Due List for Planned Receipts" in the File Transfer Upload center I receive an error. It appears that it is due to the european .csv file format that is delimited by semicolon rather than comma. The only way I could solve this issue is to change Regional and Language options to English. However, I don't think this is a great solution as I can't ask all our suppliers to change their settings. Has anyone come across this issue and another way of solving it?
Thank you!
Have a good day,
JohannaIgor thank you for your suggestion.
I found this SAP note:
+If you download a file, and the formatting of the CSV file is faulty, it is possible that your column separator does not match the standard settings of the SAP system. In the standard SAP system, the separator is ,.
To ensure that the formatting is correct, set your global default for column separation in your system, so that it matches that of the SAP system you are using.+
To do that Microsoft suggests to change the "List separator" in the Regional and Language Options Customize view. Though like you suggest that does not seem to do the trick. Am I missing something?
However, if I change the whole setting from say German to English (UK) the .csv files are comma delimited and can be easily uploaded. Was hoping there would be another way of solving this without need for custom development. -
Rendering file formats problem (non-issue in premier)
hello all,
so i'm new to final cut and baffled at the unusual render issues i've encountered from the get go.
i recorded some video using the canon fs-10 / fs-20, a lowend digital camcorder.
the camera outputs the format to .mod which i then converted to .mpeg4.
without any editing in FC, a single clip needs to render just to view it in the canvas but plays ok in the viewer. does this make any sense?
i've even tried to convert to .mov and .avi.
when i used a different camera that automatically records in .mov, final cut plays back in the canvas just fine without rendering.
so,
1. what exactly determines when FC renders if not the file format?
2. why does it need to render at all if i'm just playing back? it plays back in the viewer but not the canvas. baffling.
would be a real shame if FC couldn't handle simple editing with these basic files.
thanks!Just grabbing software, and throwing video files at it, without taking the time to read or learn HOW this said application works, isn't wise. FCP isn't Premiere...FCP doesn't just take in any old QT file and then work with it. No. It needs to be converted to a format that FCP works with. What you see in the EASY SETUP list is what FCP works with.
If you don't bother to learn the basics of the application, then things won't go smoothly. If you just want to grab QT files and throw them into an application to start editing, then use Premiere.
1. what exactly determines when FC renders if not the file format?
If it isn't in the Easy Setup list...FCP will want to render it. If you mix two or more codecs in a sequence, then FCP will render the footage that differs from the main footage you are editing with.
2. why does it need to render at all if i'm just playing back?
Because It is viewable in the Viewer...that's just a window to the QT file. But the canvas is where things are put together. And that is where settings are determined.
would be a real shame if FC couldn't handle simple editing with these basic files.
Basic files that aren't in editable codecs. At least ones that FCP (and Avid) work with. If you want an app that just works with stuff you throw at it, Premiere and Vegas are for you.

I'm trying to send music, scores and audio, as e-mail attachments, with a copy to my e-mail address. Whether I use .mus, .pdf, or .mp3, the error message says Preview doesn't recognize the file format. I haven't seen Preview, or had any problems, before now. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hi,
Firstly, your country is detemined by several factors, including your phone's regional settings, your SIM card and your NokiaAccount settings, if you used this phone whilst abroad then you may need to check that your regional and account settings are up to date since you have arrived in Canada.
For services like Gigs, you should also ensure that the MixRadio app has access to your phone's GPS location as well as the main location being on in the phone settings. To check this, as well as Location being turned on in the phone settings, in MixRadio itself go to Settings>Location>On:
The concern with favourites may also be related to location, if the music from certain artists is available in Canada but not where the service might think you are, availability of content may vary from region to region.
If all settings in both the phone, your Nokia Account and the MixRadio app are correct, we may have to investigate deeper.
It is impossible to comment on your camera without seeing it, you cold have the phone checked by Nokia Care locally, but of course if it was supplied in Europe it will be covered by the European Limited Warranty which is not valid in Canada.
