Sp_who2 shows cpu=2147483647
Wassup with this? Just started a big insert statement, server with four cores, sp_who2 shows 25 lines for spid #61, ok I have a parallel plan, but 24 of the lines shows cpu=2147483647.
This is on version:
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) - 10.0.2531.0 (X64)
Mar 29 2009 10:11:52
Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation
Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 <X64> (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)
only unusual thing I can think of is the database is still in compatability mode 90 (SQL2005), not sure why.
Activity monitor never showed the CPU as above about 40%.
Thanx.
Josh
I remember SQL 2005 having an issue where if it has been running for a while, the internal counters it uses (specifically, @@CPU_BUSY) to measure CPU utilization accumulate to the point where SQL gets a value larger than what it's expecting.
This would cause SQL to display CPU metrics incorrectly.
I am not sure if it affects SQL 2008 though. I also am not sure if it would affect sp_who2. Right now I'm just throwing out a possibility.
Here is some documentation that describes it in further detail
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms186925.aspx
Hmm, that's ... interesting!
The first line in sp_who2 output for the spid, showed a reasonable number.
If it persists, I will try bouncing the server. Thanks.

Which Is the Best App to Show CPU Usage by App?
ActMonitor by Aeonika ($.99) and System Activity Monitor by Recession Applications LLC ($1.99) are the 2 activity monitors with 5 star ratings. However, the info available for each in the App Store and their websites failed to show whether either measured each open and background apps CPU usage individually.
Knowing that info is the only way we'll get to the bottom of iOS 7.1's higher battery usage.
Does anyone know of a CPU usage monitor that does give us individual app CPU usage?Hi Susan,

ISE dashboard not showing CPU RAM usage for Admin/monitor and PSN
Hello,
I have a distributed deployment in pilot with one node dedicated to Admin/Monitoring and another dedicated to PSN.
On the dashboard, (httping to the admin node) neither of the nodes show their CPU and RAM stats (appear as grey icon).
logging to 20514 is pointing to the primary admin node.
Does anybody have any insight?
Have already resynched deployment with no success.

Em show cpu with 250% of utilization
Hi all,
I have a RAC 10g (10.2.0.4) on solaris 10 (8 cpus) .
After recreate the EM console repository few days ago. The CPU chart on cluster database main page show 250% of utilization.
On crs page the performance are normal, on instances pages the chart are normal.
The top on solaris show cpus with 90% idle on both nodes.
Somebody here lived the same problem?
Regards,
Rodrigo MufalaniHi All,
My problem was in the agent misconfigured on one of nodes.
The problem was solved with

Z68A-G43 - Bios shows cpu temperature incorrectly - noisy fan - SOLVED
Hi
I have i7-2600 + Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro rev.2 and when I use Z68A-G43 (G3), the cpu temperature shown in the bios is around 20 degrees higher ( 52-53 degrees C ) , than while I am using the same components on MSI H67MA-E35 or Asus P8H61M-LE/USB3 (30 -32 degrees in both cases ) !
I use the same thermal paste and the cpu & heat sink are definitely seated properly.
The on-board sensors are fine as when Windows is loaded, programs like HWINFO, PCWizard show the right, much lower temperature .
It wouldn't bother me that much since I know that nothing is getting overheated (the heat sink is cold ) ,however, the higher bios indications make the cpu fan spinning much faster ( 2000 rpms + ), I cannot slow it down thus I get a lot of noise coming out from it .
I updated bios to the newest 2.3 ( btw brilliant tool by Svet ) but there was no improvement, I still get the high temps and no option to control the fan.

Just checked again, Smart Fan works at the bios level too, so just the temperature shown is wrong (50-52) instead of ~ 30. I am happy customer now. Thanks again for your help.
This is pretty normal behaviour, my bios temp is ~40°C - 42°C, whilst in Windows the idle temp is ~25°C (depending all on ambient temps).
There are 2 reasons given, which one is correct or if they are both correct, I dont know, but they told me that in BIOS, the cpu utilization is much higher then in idle Windows desktop and/or it is as Jack already described, that powersaving options are not enabled in BIOS, but doing such a good thing in Windows, that the cpu drops its temps significantly.
The reason for the higher BIOS temp then others, can be in the cpu itself, some are just plain hotheads, or have flaky temperature sensors, for instance one core of my cpu will always be at 62°C max, while the other three peak at ~71°C, it just will not go over 62°C. -

I, too, cannot get iStat nano to show any temps. Nor will it show battery..says "Invalid System"
The widget says there is a newer version available, but when i downloaded it, I got a message that said i had a newer one in place already.
Confusing. And I'd like to be able to monitor my temps. Anyone have any ideas?

Hprof doesn't show cpu times of own methods
Hi,
I'm using hprof like this on Java 1.4.2_18: -Xrunhprof:cpu=times,file=/some/file.txt
This generates output like this:
1258 0.01% 91.01% 2899 2050 org.apache.axis.encoding.SerializationContext.startElement
1259 0.01% 91.02% 31041 1051 java.util.ArrayList.add

1272 0.01% 91.16% 11241 2051 org.apache.commons.logging.impl.Jdk14Logger.isDebugEnable
But none of my own methods are in there, only java.\*, sun.\*, javax.\*, org.apache.*, etc. are in it. What am I doing wrong?
Also (but this is a more optional, second question), it'd be nice if I could see them nested, i.e.:
80% my.package.MyClass.myBigMethod
20% my.package.MyClass.partOfMyBigMethod
15% my.package.MyClass.partOfPartOfMyBigMethod
5% my.package.MyClass.alsoPartOfPartOfMyBigMethod
25% my.package.MyClass.alsoPartOfMyBigMethodand so on.
Is this possible? Or should I use a different profiler for this? I'm using a headless server, so my options are rather limited, especially since because of network settings I can't really connect a remote profiler to it, like Netbeans'. It's on a GNU/Linux server, and I can't use commercial software... Any ideas?
Thanks!"Is there an alternate way to run the hardware test?"
No. The Hardware Test is on the system DVD that originally came w/your computer. You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

How to show the status for all CPU? Solaris 9 & 10 can support how many CPU
Hi, may i know wat is the command to show all of the CPU status? i tried use "top" command, but could show all. Any Idea?
And somemore, may I know Solaris 9 and 10 can support how many CPUs?
thanks
regards
raymondWhat do you mean all of the CPU status?
top shows you processes on all processors and for the currently running processes, it shows you which CPU a process is on.
If you want separate stats for each processor, "mpstat 5" shows cpu usage and idle etc.
As far as how many CPU's solaris supports.
The largest machine Sun sells as far as I am aware is a E25K with 72 dual core CPU's
for 144 cores. Is that big enough for you? You probably don't want to know the price though :-). -
Indefinite CPU Utilization while no IO movement
Env: SQL Server 2008R2.
RAM: 32GB
Processors: 4
Schema:
TableA (ACC int, TimePartOnly varchar, Office varchar, Store Varchar,EUNum int, sales int)
TableA has a million records.
TableB (TimePartOnly)
TableB has only 200 records.
Statistics updated, Indexes defragged. Very less concurrent work load.
SELECT
A.Acc,
B.[TimePartOnly],
EUNum,
Office,
Store,
SUM(A.Sales) AS AMOUNT
from
TableA A
CROSS JOIN TableB B
WHERE A.TimePartOnly <= B.TimePartOnly
Group by A.Acc,
B.TimePartOnly,
EUNum,
Office,
Store
having sum(SALES) <> 0
Issue: The above query runs for ever (more than 4 hours and then I cancelled it).
I see in sys.dm_exec_request or sp_who2 the CPU is increasing but the IO almost gets stalled after 5-6 seconds of running.
If I use the default 0 as maxdop, the query remains in the CXPacket but when I use the maxdop of 1 it is not even reflected in sys.dm_exec_request where as in sp_who2 its status is runnabel not running.
So my understand is that it goes in the processing mode for ever.
I then further did a change and from tableA which has a million records, I removed all records except 50K records and the results came back in 35 seconds.
I saw the execution plan and the most strage thing was the 'Hash Join' operator was showing 52% of the over all cost.
Now I pumped the data back in and again the same issue.
As per my understanding (may be incorrect), the following part makes it worse.
WHERE A.TimePartOnly <= B.TimePartOnly
This means A will do the processing for every match from tableB where the value of A is less than or equal to the value in B.
However, I am not sure if there is a way to fix it as it looks to be a business requirement.
Please advice if there can be something else done with the above query.Hi Aanya,
This is a interesting issue and I'm sure others will be able to contribute better than me.
However let me make few comments
- The syntax that I would have preferred would be
FROM TableA A INNER JOIN TableB B ON A.TimePartOnly < B.TimePartOnly
although the syntax that you used (Cross Join with where clause) should result in same optimization. But you can give this a try. See if execution plan changes.
- You can add another where condition WHERE A.Sales <> 0. The condition in HAVING clause will also be required as sum of positive/negative number might again results in 0.
- Are there any indexes at play here? Are those being utilized ?
I suppose after a while there would be no I/O activity as it must have read all the rows from both the tables and you are not writing output to any other table. It must be generating the combinations of the rows in the memory and showing it in your
SSMS window (there should be network activity for that).
Cheers

I am using the latest version of Firefox, 32.0.1, on an HP Pavilion dv7-4141sa laptop computer, running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. There should be more than enough power here to run a browser without any problem, yet the computer is regularly being overloaded by the browser's resource usage.
I am currently measuring typical average CPU usage of 45% - with the browser minimised. That is to say, Firefox is not doing any browser jobs - it is not drawing on the screen - but it is using the most CPU of any process currently running. Why?
I am an ex-software engineer, and my understanding of current application development technology is limited, but I think I can say with some confidence that many techniques and software architectures exist that enable the suspension of program activity, or at least its reduction to a very low bare minimum, when the program is not actually carrying out its design function, which is in this case to draw pictures of website data on a screen.
There is a very serious problem here, one which means that I cannot run Firefox all the time, but have to kill it when I am not actively browsing, otherwise other applications cannot run to their full capacity. This is a great pity, because I have committed a lot of effort to making Firefox my primary web tool. It manages all my many bookmarks, contains my secure password manager (LastPass), manages my web security (via NoScript, AdBlock, and FlashBlock), just for a start.
Before any well-meaning moderators or other commenters start down the usual trail of "have you done this, tried that, disabled the other", I should point out that I have followed all the advice I can find, with no positive outcome. This computer is running a fresh installation of Windows, and a fresh installation of Firefox. At the moment I am running a new test Firefox profile.
The latest version of Adobe Flash, 14.0.0.179, is installed but disabled. When it is enabled and in use, Firefox's CPU usage seems high over longer periods, but overall there is little difference. It doesn't look as though the problem can be laid at Flash's door. A few other add-ins are installed, mainly those mentioned above, and Firefox is skinned with LavaFox v2-Green, but I have previously started from a clean installation, which has made little difference after an initial period during which things seemed to be better. Turning off or disabling various add-ons has made no discernible difference.
Just now I turned Flash on, and after a long period with Firefox minimised, Resource Monitor reported Firefox at 8% average CPU and FlashPlayerPlugin at 0.32%. While running a small video, RM reports FlashPlayerPlugin at about 45% and Firefox at 8%. After the video, Flash went back down to around 0.4%, and after a bit more browsing Firefox went to around 17% minimised. There seems little rhyme or reason here, except that Flash does not seem to be the culprit, although Firefox does seem to consume less when fewer tabs are actually active, as you might expect. I just refreshed more than a dozen tabs, and now Firefox is at 30%, but still not back up to the higher figures. Weird.
The CPU usage does vary a lot around the average, but 30% is still a lot for a program that shouldn't be doing anything above the minimum status maintenance, and still puts it at the top of my Top Process Monitor list. (Right now it's gone back up to 45%, without my using it in any way).
I have Telemetry turned on, so presumably Mozilla is recording some of the relevant data.
This is a very serious fault, which is more or less reproducible and which a lot of people seem to be experiencing. Probably more people have it than realise, because most users will not know anything other than that their computer slows down for some non-obvious reason; they may just think it's something to do with the computer itself, not knowing how to use the Resource Monitor and interpret the results.
Oddly, the problem does not seem to occur when running Firefox under Linux Mint 17, where the response is snappy and the CPU usage ostensibly low; I am going to look at this in more detail shortly.
I am not posting here for advice, but for information and as a form of bug report which hopefully other users will see. It will hopefully spare them a lot of effort and time in trying a lot of recommended "solutions" which will not work. The problem is inherent in the software, and can be solved only by Mozilla.
I am willing to supply any diagnostic data requested; as I said above, I have also turned on "Telemetry". However, I will not be trying out any more reinstallation/new-profile/add-on disable-enable-delete cycles unless I am asked to for very specific reasons. Please do not suggest courses of action which have already been mentioned elsewhere on this forum. I have tried them all.
The situation is very disappointing, but I have confidence that the Firefox developers will pin down the fault eventually and engineer a satisfactory solution that makes it viable to leave Firefox open all the time. Even with that restriction, it's still far better than the alternatives.I share jmward's frustration. This is not a bug report so much as a request for a badly needed feature, ie the ability to have Firefox be able to tell us which tabs on which windows are eating time so we can target them. There are some very poorly written web pages out there which just plain loop while making no updates or inconsequential updates on the page.
This is not a OS problem; jmward runs Windows and I run Linux but we have the same issue. It is not a question of Firefox plugins or extensions, or even viruses; I have a new, clean Linux install but have the same problem on both my regular Firefox AND on a FRESH install of the latest Firefox (35.0.1) which has *NO* non-default plugins or extensions.
Here is an example of a web page which will eat 100% of one CPU's time:
http://patch.com/massachusetts/arlington/arlington-woman-allegedly-attacks-neighbor-snow-blower-0
I will attach 3 images to back up my claim. All of the images show my dark blue system monitor (gkrellm) superimposed on the web page. The top graph shows CPU time. I have 4 CPUs in my machine, so 25% means the web page is eating 100% of one CPU equivalent.
The first image shows the load of the offending page with elevated CPU usage along with the download net activity on eth0, but the CPU activity does not stop when the download activity is over.
The second images show the steady state 100% CPU equivalent of this page just sitting there apparently doing nothing. It IS, however, doing at least two different things. I know from my regular Firefox where I have "Remove It Permanently" installed that if I remove the the little weather indicator in the upper right of the offending page that CPU utilization drops to about 40% of one CPU equivalent. If I use RIP to remove everything else right down to a bare screen that 40% utilization stays until I delete the tab.
The third image shows the CPU utilization drop to zero when I delete the tab holding the offending page.
Now I will add a note here: If the offending page is NOT the top tab in a window then it stops eating time. The offender will also stop eating time if I minimize the window. However if I have another window up but leave the offender up on top in its window it continues to eat time even tho I am looking at another window. The offender will continue to eat time even if its window is completely covered by another window, and it will also eat time if I switch to another desktop.
I will often have half a dozen windows open, and there are many pages out there which will suck endless CPU time. Unless I want to open up a new tab on each window before I leave it there is likely to be some tab on top eating time uselessly. Get a couple of those going and Firefox becomes sluggish and can even stop responding for many seconds.
I guess I not only want to have Firefox tell us which tabs are eating time, but I would also like it if Firefox would stop giving CPU time to any tab which is not visible because it is covered by some other window and/or it is on a desktop which is currently not showing. If you can stop a tab's CPU usage by reason of tab-not-showing then you should also be able to stop its CPU usage when the window is covered or on the not-top desktop. Indeed is there any reason to not schedule absolute CPU utilization priority to the visible tab on the window with focus and give time to the other tabs only when the visible tab isn't using time?
My final thought on this is that I have had Firefox SO tied up sometimes that I swear their are web pages which are eating time even tho they are not the top tab. I regret that I do not have an example to show you. But Firefox grinds to a complete halt on a regular basis, and that is not acceptable. I am a programmer with long experience in multi-threaded programs so I *know* there is no reason you cannot do better. If there were another browser around which had the commitment to privacy which Firefox has I would probably switch out of shear annoyance. :-( -

=====================
as we see above , we have high "IP Input" about differnece in cpu =67-54=13 % , which is high value process in software .
i follwed the article here :
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/7500-series-routers/41160-highcpu-ip-input.html
i check and found that my router is fine ,
no arp calls.
no routing loops.
no flapping links.
i checked that my router has cef enabled and no enormous routing protocol updates
i found that i have big differnce between hardware & software process on the router which is 13 %
but when the traffic is more and more , the cpu reach reach 93 % and begin to have drops.
i just want to ask , how can i debug the operations that are done on the cpu processor of the router ???
i mean that if i know that traffic , i can estimate and know the problem that increasing my cpu !!!
another question :
how to debug the packest that has a ttl exceeded 50 or ttl exceeded 100 ?????
i dont wan tto make debug ip packed , because i have a huge traffic and it will let my router hanged due to large debug !!
===============
righ now i will post my router config and some verification:
