SP1 breaks Lync

Enivornment: Win7 64-bit clients with Office 2013 32-bit and separate Lync 2013 32-bit installation (excluded from Office, installed as a separate package).
Scenario: We are looking to install Office 2013 SP1 company wide on ~700 clients
Problem: SP1 breaks Lync 2013 with the following problem on error on launch:
Faulting application name: lync.exe, version: 15.0.4569.1503, time stamp: 0x52b0af33
Faulting module name: Uc.dll, version: 15.0.4420.1017, time stamp: 0x5067368a
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00002e11
Faulting process id: 0x7b4
Faulting application start time: 0x01cf3e54415abf5d
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\lync.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\Uc.dll
Report Id: 99e2b9f5-aa47-11e3-ae13-180373b1088b
The only way I've been able to get it to work is to uninstall Office and Lync via the fixit on:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501, re-install Office including Lync. But this isn't really practical for 700 clients and uninstalling office obviously losing settings, requiring cached copies of mailboxes
being re-downloaded etc. Re-installing Lync only does not work.
Anyone have any suggestions how I can get Lync to work without re-installing the entire office package?
Thanks.

Hi Rub3n5r,
I deploy updates via SCCM and didnt have any issue until SP1, but sure, its likely the part of SP1 that causes the issue might have been in an update that I never installed prior to SP1.
If you look at my error and yours, you will see its different DLLs we are having issues with. I used to have issues with uccapi.dll back with Lync 2013 pre SP1 with ShoreTel 13.2. Which ever installed last of the two broke the other. The fix was to install
ShoreTel first, replace uccapi.dll in the ShoreTel install folder with the version of the file from a Lync installation, edit shoretel.manifest to remove lines, install Lync second. But if you are on a different version to 13.2, this might not be your fix.
http://www.shoretelforums.com/forums/forum/other/shoretelforums-com-updates-bugs-and-suggestions/9078-microsoft-lync-2013-crashing
But even with those issues, repairing Lync always worked (but it broke shoretel communicator without the above fix).
Now my problem dll is uc.dll and not uccapi.dll. ShoreTel seems unaffected by all of it. The ShoreTel install doesn't seem to have a uc.dll.
I did notice by doing the hotfix uninstall of all of office and reinstalling Office including Lync with SP1, uc.dll is 23,776KB big, date modified 1/10/2012, if I do a repair on Lync, uninstall, reinstall, the file ends up being 24,769KB and date modified
is 1/23/2014. Similiar behaviour with ucaddin.dll, uccapi.dll and ucmapi.exe. But replacing them all on a broken install with the versions from a working install doesnt help.

  • Office 2013 w/SP1 OCT - Lync 2013

    Hi,
We are trying to deploy Office 2013 w/SP1 from the ISO image -35821 using OCT. We have created a new CUSTOM.MSP file everything is installed as expected in the MSP file EXCEPT Lync 2013.
In any way we are able to install it. If we run the setup manually, Lync 2013 is installed, but using the OCT we never had a chance to install it correctly. Even using the ID config.xml, Lync don't want to install.
Any thoughts /comments?Thanks and best regards
    Lionel

Had the exact same issue.  Seems OCT is boned with both the Office 2013 SP1 and Lync 2013 SP1 ISO's.
Only way I could get the Lync 2013 SP1 working for deployment was to NOT use a custom.MSP, but rather just the config.xml.
Below are the only options I had in my config.xml and it seemed to deploy ok via sccm.
    <Configuration Product="Lync">
    <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
    <Logging Type="verbose" Path="%temp%" Template="LyncSetupVerbose(*).log" />
    <Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" />
    </Configuration>
Otherwise, your other option is to deploy the 2013 without SP1 with your custom.msp and update thereafter.

  • Things which can break Lync desktop sharing

    Proxy URL filter
For one of my customers, Lync desktop sharing suddenly stopped working only from a particular network. All required ports were opened, telnet , tracert all fine, also sometimes we saw it working , so it was intermittent.  you can guess what security
and network team will say J.
Then captured traffic in netmon and it shows that there is reset for 443 traffic and uccplog shows error which points to 443 inspection device on the network , so shared it with network and security team, you wouldn’t guess their response this time
J they asked me to identify the device which is resetting 443 session.  Now I only had to solve this issue, I knew even PSS engineer can only tell us that there is reset.
I started off with question  How it works some times?” , answer to this is that whenever it worked someone from Local IT team has logged in to that computer, also when logged in as normal users netstat shows time wait for 443 and sometimes sharing invitation
expires.  This gave me a clue, so I asked for a new laptop which is not a member of any domain and started drilling down. ..Finally found that URL filtering rule has been applied to users in that subnet and corp application FQDNs are not bypassed. It
was URL filtering application which was stopping this traffic.
I told security team that proxy is causing this issue GUESS WHAT they asked me why they were not informed about Lync FQDN earlier
    J
    WAN optimizer.
It was another lovely day in office talking all important topics like work life balance, movies , next best weekend place etc… suddenly tickets started flowing for desktop sharing issue. Immediately P1 case was opened and all of us specialist joined P1 bridge
just to say WE DID NOT DO ANY CHANGES! Now someone is surely jealous of someone being happy or someone has not followed the change process. Who it is? And what it is has to be investigated, of course  by Lync team.
Again netmon says 443 rest and error message says 443 inspection.. Being a Microsoft application  expert you are not done yet without finding out which device is doing it, isn’t  it? . So started isolating the issue. Noticed that issue is happening
only from specific region only. So asked everyone on call what is so special about this region…there was a dead silence and there was a smart answer YOU TELL US! Well this went on for a while till someone from network team asked with low tone
will wan  optimizer has any impact on Lync traffic??
    J
It was WAN optimizer which was causing this issue.

  • Vista SP1 kills Aero?

I recently upgraded my Vista (32-bit Ultimate) installation to SP1, and it will no longer let me use Aero. I've tried re-installing the original Apple drivers and also the laptopvideo2go.com driver (which appears to be older than the Apple one, at least according to the date as shown in device manager), and it still doesn't work.
This is on a Penryn MBP 2.5GHz (GeForce 8600 M GT with 512MB). It was working fine before I installed SP1 (surprise, surprise). Everything else seems ok so far.
Has anyone else had this happen?

SP1 - depending on how current your system was before, uses about 5-7GB of free temp space during the update process for 32-bit version. More for 64-bit.
Some people, which can be true of OS X also, may have had pre existing drive errors or system errors. Quite a few people have tended to make Windows partitions as small as possible.
Before I applied SP1, I cleaned out temp files, restore points, and ran sfc and chkdsk just to be safe (I had an error in the past with each so I knew they should be okay but had a problem once).
I would not be surprised that EFI update or something else is the crux of the problem, and compatibility with SP1 rather than graphics driver, though some said that the EFI firmware update resolved problems.
When installing drivers, uninstall and then safe boot, then install new drivers?
I have not seen anything about SP1 'breaking' video drivers or requiring a new release. The last stable release from nVidia was around Dec 2007, and SP1 RC1 was already getting a lot of downloads.

  • Messages are incorrectly positioned inside IM chat window (after Office 2013 SP1 update)

    Hi,
After installing Office 2013 SP1 today (Lync desktop 2013 client version updated to 15.0.4569.1506), messages inside Lync's chat windows are positioned in a wrong way when using DPI of 125% in Winodws 8.1.
Can anyone else confirm this and/or suggest a solution? We cannot unistall SP1 since we're using Click-to-Run version from O365.

Can you try re-sizing the Lync IM window's width as small as possible? I have the issue due to long name, haven't tried playing with DPI.

    hi,
    i use 2 tmg's with sp2.
no active directory, hance no tmg array.
i want to enable microsoft load balancing on the internal and external but i always get "RPC is not ..." although i have opened the correct ports.
i have managed to establish a load balance cluster on the 1st host on both internal and external nic's but no luck in joining the other host.
    any suggestions ?
    Regards,

    Hi,
using NLB without TMG Integration is IMHO not a good idea. You doesn't have NLB bidirectional affinity and many more. The RPC error message in the NLB MMC is normal, because TMG blocks this type or RPC (DCOM) traffic, but NLB should work as expected.
You will not be able to manage NLB from the TMG Server itself:
"Another issue is using NLB manager on TMG. NLB manager uses DCOM to communicate between the nodes, and DCOM is not supported on TMG. Our recomendation is to use TMG UI to configure and monitor NLB clusters" - Source:

  • Labview DSC 8.5 and Lookout 6.1

Ok...so I'm moving to some new hardware and new OS's along with Labview upgrade and Lk 6.1.
I have not separated these stages yet so I'm hoping NI can help me sort this out.
    The scenario:
Run Windows Server 2008 and install LabVIEW 8.5, then LabVIEW DSC 8.5, then Lookout 6.1
    Lookout hangs on startup!
Now windows Vista with SP1 is essentially the same as Win2k8 with SP1, so the question(s) is/are....
1.)  Is Lookout 6.1 compatible with Vista SP1?
2.)  Will Lookout 6.1 run properly installed on top of LabVIEW 8.5 w/ DSC?  and/or Can LabVIEW DSC 8.5 and Lookout 6.1 coexist and work properly?  If yes, can they run simultaneously on the same machine?
3.) Does Vista SP1 break Lookout 6.1?  If not, why does it break on W2k8 server?
I understand NI does not support server OS's  (can't really figure that out since Lookout actually runs more stable with a server OS....) but Lookout has always run fine on Windows Server OS's since NT4.
I just want to know whether to bother setting up the same software scenario on Vista w/o SP1, or if you NI wizards know for sure that something else is breaking the scenario...
    Thanks,
    Ed

    1.  We can't say whether Lookout 6.1 supports Vista sp1 or not. Officially saying lookout 6.1 does support Vista, but sp1 is newly released and we haven't tested yet, so if it runs fine on sp1, it's good, but we can't guarantee. We will test the lastest os and sp for the next release of lookout.
    2. Yes. You can install both on the same machine and run both, at least on the supported os.
    3.  We haven't tested it yet.
We don't support server os is because we have never tested the server os. But it doesn't mean lookout can't run on server os. Maybe it runs fine, maybe not. So I'm not suprised that Lookout has always run fine on Windows Server OS's since NT4.
For Vista sp1, I'm sorry that you need to try by yourself.
For the SPC toolkit for DSC 8.5, it's a known issue. It has been fixed in DSC 8.5.1.

  • Lync 2013 SP1 64 bit crashes on Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit SP1

    Systems Involved:
    Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (080) –Crashes Lync 2013 64bit SP1
Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (081) –Crashes with Lync 2013 64bit SP1   -Working okay with 2010 so far
Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One (083) –Clean install Seems to be working okay
    Details of the problems
I have a put in place 2 Dell OptiPlex 9020 All in One’s both with network card Intel I217-LM.
The first system (080) I put place crashed several times before, I put a different new 9020AIO (083) that I created a new with clean install from disk of Windows 7 and Office 2013 64 bit with Lync 2013 64 bit upgraded to SP1.    After having this
system side by side with the system that was crashing all the time and network capturing software installed on the new system this issue appeared to disappear.  The user has not reported an issue with Lync 2013 in three to 4 weeks.
After thinking this was an issue with Office 2013-upgraded SP1. I decided to create a new image Windows 7 and Office 2013 64 bit SP1 intergraded .iso from web store. (Not upgraded) thinking there was something wrong with the SP 1 upgrade the way I intended
it to work.   I reimaged the other 9020’s I have including the one (080) that was having the crashing issues.
The second system (081) is a new image I created, the system got some office updates from the WSUS it should not have been updated with and Lync 2013 was also crashing. I decided to reimage (080) a clean format with the new image.  I put this system in
place for the user knowing it was clean install and not have any issue but for the last 2 weeks Lync 2013 has crashed.
I did take their old system back to my desk and was able to get it to crash as well.  I decided to see if this problem was with Lync so I installed Lync 2010 I have not seen issue with 2010 yet.
I have also rolled out 2 Dell OptiPlex 7010 towers   with the same image as above with no issues so it seems like this issue is only related to the 9020AIO.
    Issue:
The computer will operate fine for most of the time but Lync 2013 will crash with not responding, please sign into Lync on the phone  (Plantronics D540m).  I get windows circle thing spinning and Lync is not responding    if you close the
program it will try to run solution finder but there is not anything that will help.   The only way to fix this issue is to reboot at this time.   At first I thought it was the network driver issue for Intel I217-LM but after installing the usb network
adapter I believe the issue is something related to Lync 2013 SP1
    Things I have tried
    1. System Event : Application Log pulled  I will include below in this message
    2. 9020 with Intel I217-LM
    3. Update driver version = to current version
    4. Change power management settings as outlined http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19523337/20460673.aspx
    5. Disable Wireless and  Bluetooth
    6. Reset users Lync account
    7. USB Network Adapter.
    Event Logs:
1.The program lync.exe version 15.0.4569.1503 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Does the issue disappear when you uninstall the update?
If so, it seems that the Lync update is incompatible with your computer.

    Hi Fellows,

  • Lync 2013 x64 silent client deployment via SCCM 2012 SP1

    Greetings everyone!
I ran into a problem with Lync 2013 x64 silent deployment.
I need to provide every workstation with Lync 2013 client, so i decided to use deployment via SCCM 2012 sp1.
I created 2 msp files with OCT, one based on x86 Office 2013 Proplus, and other based on x64 Office 2013 Proplus.
Added them as applications to sccm software library.
Deployment of Lync 2013 x86 application was a success with over than 80% compliance.
But all Lync 2013 x64 automatic installations finish with different errors.
I created special device collection for workstations with office 2010 x64 and 2013 x64, because i can't install other architecture products once it has x64 product installed.
My membership query-rules for this collection:
    Office 2013 x64
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE on SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where UPPER(SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.SoftwareCode) = "{90150000-0011-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}"
    Office 2010 x64
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE on SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where UPPER(SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.SoftwareCode) = "{90140000-0011-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}"
My application deployment type points to setup.exe in office 2013 x64 installation folder, where i created msp file in updates folder via OCT and edited config.xml file in proplus.ww folder.
    So my installation program looks like this setup.exe /adminfile updates\1lync.msp /config proplus.ww\config.xml
The same configuration works with Lync 2013 x86 deployment, except other setup folders.
When i try running installation program setup.exe with /adminfile and /config parameters locally, it installs successfully without errors or warnings.
I'm trying to find out problem source, does anyone have ideas what I am doing wrong?
Also i'm trying to reduce office 2013 installation folder size, what subfolders are necessary for Office 2013 proplus installation (still installing only lync with common files and tools)? Because now 3.5 GB package is quite hard to distribute to sccm secondary
    sites with deployment point.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Lync integration not working after Exchange 2013 SP1 is installed...

    Hi,
I have two Exchange 2013 servers running and everything is fine, almost.
The problem is that on the first server we had OWA with Lync integration working before installing SP1, but after the installation of SP1, it doesn't Work any more.
The second server was installed with SP1 from the start, but we can't get the Lync integration to Work on this one either..
When we log in to OWA, it just starts to sign in but then says "there was a problem signing in, if this continues please contact your helpdesk"
I have checked the Exchange server for events, and i can see the event ID 112 everytime i recycle the Application Pool, so there are some connection between Exchange and Lync..
Have any of you Guys seen or experienced any thing like this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Kenneth

  • Office SP1 installed, but superceded Lync update still wants to install

Hello all, I had the same question in the SCCM forum and they told me to repost the same question here.  So my machine is Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 running newly downloaded Office 2013 ProPlus w/ SP1 direct from MS.  I did not install the SP1
myself, I used the complete ISO off the volume license center that includes SP1. Loaded the updated OCT files from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554 to fix the install glitch as is documented.  Installed with customized OCT msp file.
I installed my updates deployed via SCCM 2012 R2 CU1, using all office 2013 updates, not expired or superseded.  I installed all of my published/deployed updates, but when running updates through Microsoft Update using Online, I see
Update for Microsoft Lync 2013 (KB2817678) 32-bit Edition as an update that is needed.  I check and this update
IS SUPERSEDED by the SP1 (
    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=2850036 ).
That made me question do I actually have Office 2013 SP1 installed.  Checked the version number as documented "In order to determine whether SP1 is already installed, you can look for the program version in the list of installed programs
in the Programs and Features Control Panel item. If SP1 is installed, the version will be 15.0.4569.1506 or higher."
Mine shows, "15.0.4569.1506" so it is installed.
Now that you have the background, why is it asking me to install an update SP1 supersedes when I have SP1 installed?

  • Lync 2010 Voice & Video Support on Windows 2012 R2 SP1 RDSH & RDVH

Hello - We have successfully demonstrated RDSH & RDVH using Windows 2012 R2, Windows 8 virtual desktops and Dell T10 Zero clients. RemoteFX has been successfully tested as well for Printing across RDSH & RDVH environments.
Problem at hand is that we are unable to showcase Lync 2010 Voice & Video calling across both these environments (RDSH & RDVH).
    RDSH Environment
In an RDSH environment, we observe that a Platronics headset connected to the Dell T10 thin client is able to get redirected to the RDSH Server using RemoteFX and in-turn the RDSH Server is able to detect the connected hardware. However, the Lync 2010 client,
published using RDSH, is UNABLE to detect the connected audio device.
As for Logitech Webcam connected to the Dell T10 thin client, we have no issues with device detection and the Lync 2010 client is able to see the connected Webcam device.
    RDVH Environment (Pooled Desktop)
As for the RDVH environment, we observe that both the Platronics headset & Logitec Webcam connected to the the Dell T10 thin client are UNABLE to get redirected to the RDVH Server using RemoteFX. We have enabled RemoteFX via Group policy in this environment.
    Queries:
    A. Could you help providing some direction into troubleshooting/isolating the audio-device detection issue on Lync clients in an RDSH environment.
    B. Could you help providing some direction into troubleshooting/isolating the audio & webcam re-direction issue in an RDVH environment. FYI, our test bed server does NOT support GPU and wanted to check if that would be a limitation towards detection
    of these devices?
    Thanks

    Hi Dharmesh,
    Thank you for a response.
We had already enabled Audio and Video playback option.
But when we have tested with windows 7 desktop machine, the audio devices are detecting in Lync client in both RDVH and RDSH
environment and we are able to make audio calls. So we are planning to test with the different thin clients. Post we will update the same.
    Thanks.
