SP2013 Server farm to Standalone migration/Configuration!
Hi All,
In my comapany i have put sharepoint development server to every users dekstop. They have 8GB of RAM Server2012 as base OS. I have configured server farm in all the systems. The problem is the system are too slow.
In a new system i have installed and configured standalone server with 8GB RAM, it is somewhat better in speed.
So i would like to know whether we can able to downgrade from server farm to standalone in the rest of the systems ?
Will it affect all the database, other settings that these users have been working on ?

that is expected behavior with the configuration you have. MSFT recommend 10GB Ram and 64Bit, 4 Cores minimum requirement. In your scenario you have all resource loving tools...Win 2012, SP2013, VS2012, SQL server. I highly recommend you to upgrade to a
tlesaet 16GB(but better results 24GB) ram. Check the MSFT guideline.

Could you confirm if this is the right method and supported way to Introduce the ADFS Server Farm 3.0 in existing ADFS Standalone setup.
As per Technets, ADFS Standalone does not support upgrade "Select this option to configure a new stand-alone instance of AD FS 2.0.
Use this option if you only need to install and deploy a single AD FS 2.0 server for either evaluation purposes or a small production environment. If you select this option, you will not be able to upgrade to a server farm configuration later."

Remote Desktop (Terminal Services) Configuration on a Server Standard 2012, standalone installation
I'm new to this, so bear with me..
I need help locating documentation on how to configure a Server Standard 2012, standalone server, to act as a terminal server. In server 2008, you could have the server as a domain controller, and also host remote desktop sessions for thin clients. Apparently
a lot has changed with 2012, and I don't think I'm even using the right search terms because I having a time finding proper information.
I'll be glad to provide whatever further information is needed for someone to help me..

After I ran SharePoint configuration wizard successfully to upgrade to SharePoint 2013 / SP1.
I can open Central Administration site just fine.
but now when I open any Site collection, I got this error.

I have restarted all the servers: SQL server, WFE and APP servers but still cann't get this resolve.
Services on all servers are running, IIS - application pools are running.
Can someone help with where that could be a problem or if there is a solution.

SwanlPlease verify the followings:
Make sure that from the SharePoint front end and application servers that you can ping your SQL server.
Make sure that your Farm account has permission to the configuration database.
Lastly verify that your database didn't for some reasons go into recovery mode.
once everything is fine and you are still having issues, restart the SQL host service on the SQL server.
Once the service is restarted you will need to reboot Central Admin and then your front end servers.
In addition, as you built your farm inside the firewall, please disable the firwall, or create rules for SQL Server service in the firwall on SQL server.

BAM Cluster setup - issue with whole server migration configuration

We are working on a SOA , BAM , BPM Cluster setup on OEL VMs
With Admin server running on Host1 and Soa_server1, BAM_server1 , Host2 - Soa_server2 , Bam_server2.
We were successfully able to setup clustering for Soa without using the webTier utilities in our environment, Just by adding entries in the /etc/hosts file.
Followed the document - except for web tier setup

1) Installed Weblogic 11g.

3) Domain creation
4) Configured Node manager
5) Soa Clustering completed successfully.

The issue revolves when we are doing teh Migration configurations from the console for BAM and we restart BAM server we get an error -

This error occurs due to a failure in adding the virtual IP of BAM server to the network interface you have specified in nodemanager.properties.
You need to check whether you have specified the correct interface and subnet mask in node manager.properties as below :

Server status shown as 'Not Configured' in single server farm.
In a single server farm, after installation and running the configuration wizard for multiple times, the status of server is shown as 'Not Configured'. There is no abnormality in any other features (so far), everything functions fine, but we see the 'Not
configured' message in 'Servers in Farm' and 'Manage Patch Status'. We have used the same AutoSPInstaller script to install Sharepoint on two machines SPDev1 and SPDev2. This error does not show up on SPDev1 but on SPDev2. Is this something to worry

According to your description, my understanding is that the server status showed “Not Configured” in single server farm.
Please run SharePoint 2013 Products Configuration Wizards to remove the server from the farm via clicking “Disconnect the existing farm”. After finishing, re-run configuration wizards to connect the existing farm.

Configuring Health Probe for Server Farm
If I have a server farm with real servers listening on port 8888 and I apply an HTTP-type health probe with no port number specified, will the ACE know to probe the servers at 8888 or will it try to probe port 80?
Hi,
Yes it should inherit the port from the real servers defined in the serverfarm. This gives you the flexibility to associate same probe with different serverfarms probing different servers on different ports. This is probe port inheritance feature which is there in ACE.

CBS: Creation of build location fails for Standalone Development Configuration
Hi experts,
We have an issue during setup of a Standalone development configuration in NWDI with CM Services. During saving the following error occurs:
"Unable to save development configuration: Unable to create build location "SPO" on build tool "http://qpmr-nw01.sap:50000" using user "NWDI_CMSADM" [DICONF_CREATEBUILDLOCATION]: CBS Server Error: Internal server error( internal code: INTERNAL_SERVER_ERROR)"
The trace logs contains additionally the following errors:
"FAILURE to unset the owner-buildspace property on workspaces for buildspace: SPO caused due to an exception. Invalid cookie domain .sap. This may cause problems during future creation of buildspaces for the workspaces associated with this buildspace. Manual unset may be required."

Does this have something to do with our domain name which ends with .sap?

yes, that is what I was afraid of.
Let's try something else.
Surely the problem seems to be related to the domain that is using the string "sap".
Or at least this is what I can also see in the error message :Invalid cookie domain .sap.
Can you please try with IP ? Go to CMS Track Data, and specify the CBS and DTR URLs via IP.

Hello Community!
I am working with SharePoint 2013 and I built a farm inside the firewall. Then a decision was made to move the two WFE's to the DMZ. Since that time, whenever I try to access the site collections, I get the error below. Other information: All
the web applications are on port 80, but I'm not having any problem with accessing Central Administration which is on port 8080; the network team did screw up the DNS originally, but I'm told it's correct now; the two WFE's servers show in my Manage servers
on the Farm interface 2X, once with the server name, once with the fully Qualified Domain Name, the ones with the FQDN shows a Services Running status of Not Configured.
Has anyone else ever seen this error and if so please provide guidance and instruction for fixing the error.

can you put that line within a try catch and see that causes an exception. If so, you might try as below-

Upgrade CF9 to CF11 w/IIS can't get to migration/configuration stage
I finally go approval to do my upgrade not as a stand alone, side-by-side upgrade which was requiring me to do a major hack that wasn't working due to our funky coding and security twists we have implemented in the code.
Unfortunately, when I do the upgrade/installation it installs, but I can't move on to the migration/configuration stage of the installation. I can't see anything in the error logs. Sometimes I'll get the 500.19 error message when I try to connect to the administrator myself, other times nothing. When I get the HTTP Error 500.19 Internal Server Error it refers to the ApplicationHost.config or web.config file that contains malformed xml element. When I look at the old web.config file it contains about 9 handlers that are using either jrun_iis6_wildcard.dll or jrun_iis6.dll. I do have the IIS6 to IIS7 configuration selected in the new installation of CF11, but I can't move forward. I want to just copy these 2 files from my CF9 installation, but I don't know where to put them. I've even renamed the web.config file so that IIS would recreate it so it wouldn't be referring to the old CF9 web.config file and getting stuck there, which one error message once referred to these lines in the CF9 web.config file. I understand that this question blurs the ColdFusion/IIS category boundaries. I'm not sure where my error is lying, with IIS or CF11. I want to just enter these handlers manually in IIS 7, but my boss seems to think we need to have wsconfig do that for us in case it is putting code elsewhere and we are missing configuration changes that really puts us in a spiral. Thoughts/suggestions anyone? I hope I was clear enough.
Another thing is that we have our CFIDE folder for CF9 located in a different directory, for security purposes I'm guessing, yet I can't figure out how CF is recognizing that it should go there to run. In CF Administrator it is referring to a different folder for CFIDE that doesn't exist. I have only seen one referrence to the correct location, and that was in the registry when I was ensuring CF11 references were deleted. CF9 had it there. I guess I'm wondering if there is a setting somewhere that i need to change so CF11 will look in the correct location and then run and go forward with the migration/configuration part of the instalation. I can't find it in any of my searches that look for that foldername in the files.
I have inherited this project and there is very little documented regarding configuration changes that were done.

JenniferOK, my installation is working, although I'm still trying to get the applications to work (permissions issues I think). Since I kept having migration difficulties we created a CAR first with CF9. We then ended up just doing a straight upgrade on our development server. I performed the install with server configuration and selected Configure my webserver for ColdFusion 11, IIS. When you launch the browser to connect to CF11 administrator if you get the 500 error message it may be because the SSL for the CFIDE>Administrator folder in IIS is selected. Deselect it and that error messge should go away (if it is that that is). We kept getting a 404.7 error message of deny file extension. I was thinking it had to do with my cfm extensions because I was trying to open a cfm, but it wasn't the case. The error message mentioned isapi.redirect.dlls. I finally found an error message under my IIS FailedRequestLogs that mentioned something about Request Filtering. Turns out .dll was not in the allowed list of my virtual Jakarta folder. Once I added this and restarted IIS I was able to get into my CF Administrator 11 and installed the CAR file.
Now I keep getting Unauthorized errors and need to figure that out. Permissions are looking like the cause of that.
Things I learned (you may already know this):
CF9 can have CFIDE placed wherever, but CF11 needs to keep it where it is installed.
CF11 doesn't need IIS 6 Metabase Compatability installed, whereas CF9 did (at least ours did)
We kept getting a duplicat MIME Type error message too for .air. That was added at the server level and inherited at the website level. I deleted it at the server level and added it at the website level.

Logging into a specific server in a terminal server farm
We have several terminal server farms and in each farm we have the need for 1 user to always log into a specific server in the farm. This is due to a little piece of sortware that is required for a device that only this one user has and
the fact the it is licensed to only one server. The user must use that server for it to work. I want to include this server in the farm because it seems silly to have a server for only one user. How can I point one PC/user
to the same server in the farm all the time? We are using the Connection Broker and NLB which seems to work just fine for all other users.

What operating system version are you running on your servers? Server 2008 R2? Server 2012?
When you configure a RDS farm to be load-balanced by the connection broker, all servers in the unique farm are intended to have the exact same applications installed. The idea is the RDCB can redirect users to different servers as needed to balance
the load, and that you may take any particular server (or servers, if you have enough) offline and your farm will still work.
Now, there are always exceptions and I understand it would be nice if you could assign a user/app to a specific server to handle a case like yours. For example, you would understand this particular user or app would not be load-balanced or highly
available and if the one server was down it would not work, but other users/RemoteApps would be load-balanced as usual. This is
not a feature of the current versions of RDS.
To do what you want the "best way" would require writing a custom plugin for RDCB. In your custom plugin you would specifiy the load-balancing logic. For example, when one of the "special" users logs on, your logic would direct them to the
correct specific server, but when a regular user logs on you would allow the normal RDCB load-balancing logic to apply. Please see here for more information:

1. Instead of running the app under RDSH, run it in a Win7/Win8 VM pool if possible. Either a pool of identical VMs or assign each user that needs to run the app to a dedicated VM. Downside of this is added complexity, licensing for VDI,
and an increase in hardware resources required to run the VMs.
2. Have the user connect to the server using /admin. You can change the permissions so that a specific group may connect using a /admin connection, without them being administrators. Downside of this is that some features
of RDSH are not present when connected as an administrative RDP session, and only two Active admin sessions are permitted.
3. If running Server 2008 R2 you could set the server so that it does not participate in load balancing and have the users that need to run this special app connect directly to the server's ip address instead of to the farm name. Downside of this
is that you will get more uneven load distribution, however, it may not be that bad if you are balancing your initial connections using NLB and you have all of your regular users connecting to the farm name as usual.
4. Have a separate server in each farm (not joined to the farm) just for this one app. If possible they could be VMs with not much resources dedicated to each. I know this is what you did not want to do, but I mention it because an
extra base Windows Server license, one for each farm, is likely less additional cost than licensing the special software on
all servers. If you can run the app in VMs then the additional hardware cost of doing it this way is reduced.

A practical limit on ACE module is 4k each for probes, serverfarms, class-maps & policy-maps. Rserver instances can be up to 16K. These limits represent total per system. They may exist all in a single context if desired. These numbers will vary based on specific configuration requirements.

Failed to detect if this server is joined to a server farm
Hi,
We run our intranet on a virtual server. the other day it crashed and we restored it from a previous point
However when we launch the intranet we just get a an unexpected error has occurred. I am able to get into central admin but that's about it
I though of maybe running the product config wizard but it get an error saying "failed to detect if this server is joined to a server farm. Possible reasons for this failure could be that you no longer have the appropriate permissions to the server
farm, the database server hosting the server farm is in responsive, the configuration database is inaccessible or this server has been removed from the server farm"

VIP still reachable even if primary server farm is down

I want to make sure that the a VIP is not PING-able anymore when the primary server farm is down (all servers are down).
For that I have the following configuration :

While testing this feature, I realize that the VIP is still reachable (PING), even if the server in the farm is in PROBE_FAILED status (For test, I have only one srserver in the farm).

In the documentation, the following is written regarding the command "vip loadbalance icmp-reply active primary-inservice" it is stated that the ACE shold discard ping packets if all servers in the primary server farm are down.
I probably missed something, but what ?

I have effectively four diferent policy maps :
- one for PROD when the client arrives withh HTTP
- one for PROD when the client arrives with HTTPS
- one for TEST when the client arrives with HTTP
one for TEST when the client arrives with HTTPS
However, the PROD and the TEST environemnts use different server farms. I am testing the icmp-reply feature on the TEST environment. In the TEST environment, both Layer-7 policy maps use the same server farm.
