SP2100 CD-ROM not recognised

Suddenly my CD-ROM (Teac)is not recognised anymore.
Message in Device Manager - properties:
Windows has loaded the driver in memory, but cannot find the device (Code 41)
With an external DVD-writer/CD_ROM (HP)on USB and Firewire I get the same message.
Booting fron CD is also not possible.
Any suggestions?
Paul

Hi,
Code 41 means that the driver was successfully installed but the hardware wasn't found!
Normally the hardware is damaged with this error message, but your external Drive got the same message!
So there is a deeper problem with the CD drive support!
If you have setted a System restore point before the failure occure for the first time, start the system restore tool and go back to this point!
Then it should work again! Otherwise post again!

  • DVD-ROM not recognised with M/S setting

Hello, I just purchased a SD-R2412 DVD-ROM drive to replace my defunct drive (same model). However, my old drive was CSEL type and this new one is M/S. I didn't know there was differences within same models. This new drive is not recognized by Windows XP (SP2) and the second IDE controller disappear. Also, it is not possible to boot from CD, so I guess the BIOS is not recognizing the drive either.
I've seen some discussion regarding the reverse (old M/S, new CSEL) and some solutions for that case, but I haven't seen any comments on my problem.
My guess is that the drive is configured as slave and the BIOS is unable to recognize it in this position. If so, the question would be if there's a way to configure the M/S drive to act as a master.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hello
It will be very interesting to know, which Toshiba unit you have. As far as I know the drive is already set to slave but I dont now about exactly position of the jumper. Nevertheless take a look on the label which is on the drive. There you can find a picture how to set the little jumper to master or slave.

  • CD ROM / DVD Drive not recognised and virus on computer

    Can anybody help please?
My CD ROM / DVD Drive has failed. I have tried troubleshooting etc but to no avail. The computer does not recognise I have a cd rom / dvd drive as it says it is not recognised by the registry?
I also have a virus I cannot get rid of, this may be part of the problem (Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c) I have run numerous virus, spyware and trojan checks but there is no cure yet?
I tried system recovery but it will not let me recover to a previous date.
I cannot use my recovery disc because the computer does not recognise the drive. A catch 22 situation.
Can anyone offer any advice other than throw it out of the window?
Help from anyone would be much appreciated.

    HI Paul,
I think your first priority will be to remove the virus from your notebook. The following link contains details of the virus :-
    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.desktophijack.html
Is you CD-ROM shown in the BIOS ? If so then set it to be the first selectable boot device and you should then be able to load your recovery disk and reboot from it.

  • 10.4  Update files not recognised

Using 10.4 on a second hand Powermac g4 from ebay, so no installation discs.
Successfully downloaded standalone updates 10.4.1....10.4.9 etc but first one (MacOSXUpdate10.4.1.dmg) not recognised so won't install. others recognised but won't work until first one installed.
Same with standalone combo update (MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10) it isn't recognised. Using AOL dial up so it's taken seven attempts (overnight) to get a continuous connection for the complete Combo download. (Same with Software Updates Combo from Apple menu on desktop)
How do I get the right file which will be recognised ? or should I buy a full retail version of Tiger from ebay ? I'm concerned about all the probs people are having with updates as I am miles away from Apple Store for repairs and am a newbie. Many thanks for any replies.

    Welcome To  Discussions frenchbingo!
Which version of OS X is currently installed on the Power Mac G4?
If it is not Tiger 10.4.x, then as sig posted, you will have to purchase a set of install discs.
Exactly which model PowerMac G4 is it?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
If it is this model Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics), it had OS 8.6 or OS 9.0 installed, when manufactured in 1999.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
Once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.10 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Leopard 10.5.x, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).
    Leopard System Requirements
Jaguar 10.2.x, Panther 10.3.x, and Tiger 10.4.x, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Leopard 10.5.x, will be the most up to date OS.
But, if you know what to look for, Jaguar Full Retail CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

Before upgrading to any OS X version, check to see if your Mac needs a Firmware Update.
If one is required, you must start the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk, not from a CD, in order to install it.
This Power Mac G4 Firmware Update 4.2.8 appears to be the one you would need to install.
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 Combo Update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version of either OS.
If your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements, you could also consider installing that, and then use the PPC 10.4.10 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
    Jaguar System Requirements
-Power Mac G3 or G4, iMac, eMac, PowerBook G3 or G4, or iBook computer
    -128MB of physical RAM
-Supports all video cards shipped by Apple on Mac OS X-compatible systems. Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video cards: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Ti; Any AGP-based ATI RADEON card. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required.
-QuickTime Pro functionality requires a QuickTime 6 Pro key. The QuickTime 5 Pro key will not work after this software is installed.
-DVD Player requires a DVD-ROM equipped Macintosh with built-in FireWire.
Review these Apple documents for Panther System Requirements
    And Additional Panther System Requirements.
Additionally, Tiger 10.4.x ships on a DVD, so if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.

  • My HP G70-120EM Laptop with a blueray player will not recognise blueray discs.

my HP G70-120EM Laptop with a blueray player will not recognise blueray discs. Any idea what software update I need?

I also have this problem on an Envy 17 laptop with a HP DVDBD TS-TB23L drive that shows up as a BD-ROM.  It will play music and read data discs but not play BLURAY or DVD discs.  It is very disheartening to finid such a lack of support for any problems on HP machines and will make me question ever buy an HP device.  They seem to produce them at such a rate that they never bother when things go wrong as there is another being produced in the next five minutes.  At first I thought this was a problem with the drive but now I suspect it is a software problem they are not bothering to resolve.

  • Windows 7 64 bit will not recognise network adapter!

Windows 7 64 bit will not recognise network adapter!

You have an older Mac that has 32-bit EFI
you need to use Windows 7 32-bit or modify the DVD.
    Select CD-ROM Boot prompt
    Stuck at Select CD-Rom Boot
Hint: Windows 7 SP1 update will need 8GB free space. Windows takes at least 16-20GB. Add in page file, hibernation (each size of physical RAM). Plus any programs and data you store. Cache and temp files (1-4GB) and you get the idea. you will find you can't even login to the sytem. Seen it happen.
old wives tale: double your best guess for how much RAM, disk space, whatever, to get a more realistic.
REMOVE the partition using BCA and create 40GB, being sure to leave 20GB free for Mac OS X volume also.

  • CD and DVD roms not working

I have just installed a 845PE Max2 motherboard and 2.4GHz Intel processor.  I have kept my CD writer and DVD from my old machine.
The PC boots up fine but does not recognise the ROMs at all.
Anyone any ideas what I could have done wrong?

    May be because
    1) The cable you use is a hard-drive 80- conductor cable, do not use this cable for Cd-drives, use an ATA-33 Spec cable, conductor-40 for Cd-rom drives and other drives not capabale of ata-66 or higher.
    2) The cable may not be polarised and you have put the cable round the wrong way
    3) Both of the drives could be slaves/masters/or on cable select. Choose ONE to be the master and ONE to be the slave device.
    4) You have not given the drives a power-source (by plugging them into the psu! ) )

  • DVD Device not recognised as a DVD Device

    Hi,
I am having a very annoying problem.
Since installing arch (quite a while ago) I have not been able to use my DVD device for DVDs.  It is recognised as a CD-ROM only, whereas it is really a DVD reader / CD burner (not dvd burner).  I have been able to use this for reading dvds on windows, then when i used to be on ubuntu.  Arch doesn't see it properly.
When Arch loads, i notice Universal CD Device Driver or something, version 3.20, is loaded for hdc (my device).  I think it is not recognised properly.
I have tried manually mounting different devices, checked dmesg for any changes between reading a dvd and reading a cd (no new lines in dmesg when a dvd has been inserted).  It is really, really strange and I do not know what to do.
Can someone please help me?  I can download the drivers for my device (windows tho) if that helps.
Any response is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

yes I have that, no difference.  I think it is a problem with the firmware that is flashed onto the device itself, or something like that.  is there a way to flash firmwares in linux?  all the toshiba firmware installation things, or the rpc1.org stuff are all for windows.  how can i do it?
or, if there is a way, i'd like to reset to the original firmware, is there any possibility of that?

  • HP dv7 notebook PC does not recognise the dvd burner.

HP dv7 notebook with win7 64bit does not recognise the dvd burner.A diagnostic check says the dvd is working but it cannot play or burn CDs,DVDs as the DVD does not appear with the other HDs in the computer window. Can anyone help?

    Hi,
It's possible that this is a hardware issue with the optical drive itself, but try running automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • PM8M2-V RAID array not recognised by WinXP Pro

    Greetings,
i'm just setting up a PM8M2-V system with 2 x WD 80GB JD SATA drives. In the RAID BIOS i have configured the drives to be RAID 0 (striped) for performance and made them bootable. From a IDE DVD rom, i'm running a WinXP Pro (corp ed - no pre-installed service packs) install but the OS will not detect any drives in the system.
I have downloaded the VIA_RAID_OM74.zip file from MSI VIA PIDE-SATA RAID Drivers and Utility for creating the RAID drivers and tried to create a floppy disk with the WinXP drivers on it using the embedded (and slightly cryptic) VIA MakeDisk.txt instructions.
Containined on the floppy disk are the following files/folders:
    a:\TXTSETUP.OEM
    a:\PIDE\WinXP\viapdisk.cat
    a:\PIDE\WinXP\viapdisk.sys
    a:\PIDE\WinXP\viapide.inf
    a:\RAID\WinXP\viamraid.cat
    a:\RAID\WinXP\viamraid.inf
    a:\RAID\WinXP\viamraid.sys
*plus the other MS operating system files in the similar directory structure*
Problem - WinXP Pro does not recognise this created floppy disk as a hardware support disk and will NOT let the OS recognise the SATA RAID array as a drive.
    Complete system specs
    MSI PM8M2-V VIA P4800 + 8237R (RAID)
    Intel P3 3ghz HT LGA775 CPU
    2 x 512 DDR-RAM PC3200
2 x WD 80GB JD SATA drives configured in a RAID 0 Striped set and bootable
1 x IDE DVD D/L Burner (Master drive on IDE Secondary Channel)
ATI Radeon 9250 128m AGP Card
    Web Excel 56K software modem

Did you boot with WinXP CD 1st and then hit F6 to install the RAID controller drivers?

  • Bios does not recognise cr52-m drive

I recently updated the aspi drivers because I had a dvd rom which needed it, but it now seems that the cr52-m is now not reciognised by my bios.
This means Nero does not recognise the drive and on 2k pro the logical disc manager now takes several more minutes in loading.
I have searched the msi site looking for the firmware or driver for the drive but cannot find anything which can help me.
Live monitor does not give me anything useful to solve this problem.
So if support or any other forum member can point me in the right direction so I can resolve this issue so that my bios can recognise the drive again by flashing the right firmware, I will be happy to continue using msi products.

    what is aspi driver?
Also, try to contact MSI by phone and e-mail about your problem as well not just this forum.

iTunes is not recognising my iPod and the iPod Setup Assistant isn't showing automatically. Can anyone help. I have a new laptop with Window Vista is this operating system the problem? Install an hardware diagnostic tool like Everest home Edit or similar.
This tool would provide all hardware details about your notebook.
It would list all devices and chipset name too.
I think its Intel chipset so you could find the driver on the Intel page

  • Ipod not recognised by Windows, USB device not recognised

    Hi hope someone can help
I have recently received my ipod back from Applecare who have sent the ipod back in ' working order ' but it will no longer be recognised by my windows. It says USB device not recognised and i cant find, nor will it install drivers that i located on the ipod updater etc.
I have tried several methods on this forum but none seem to work.
The letter from mycare says the iPod is formatted for a computer operating Mac OS X. Although i stated wi use Windows. But the leter states this can be changed bu installing the updater, but this wont make a diff as comp still wont regonise the device after i have followed there instructions. Any advice?
    Thanks

I'm not really up on the complexities of the Windows OS but try this tip I picked up a while back, hopefully it might help.
"USB Device not Recognized in Windows".
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the System icon.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click Device Manager.
    5. Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
    6. Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    7. Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    8. Click the Power Management tab.
    9. Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
    10. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    11. Restart the computer.

Tried it on my friend's computer, and again not recognised by windows or itunes.
ipod plays ok, so I assume there's a problem with the USB port on the ipod itself.
Not found any useful help on the support site.
I don't imagine this can be repaired - any ideas?

THANK YOU! I have spent 4 hours doing everything the website said, including unistalling all of Itunes versions, going into Hardware Update, going into My Computer and "managing" it, emptying my TEMP folder, and finally I had the massive brainstorm to go into the discussion board, and reseting the iPod did it! You are a savior!
BTW, to the poster who asked if the new version did it. Absolutely. I downloaded it last night and everything gave up the ghost immediately after.
