SP7 tcp and 681j tcp broken for me.

Hello all,
I have this very long and storied journey that I hope you will read, as TCP is broken for me.
Facts:
Netware OES 6.5 sp7 and TCP681J domestic and Null.
TCP680b (working)
Dell 2650 server with Broadcom NiC, b57.lan version 10.41 (newest from dell and came with sp7)
PIX 515 code 8.0.2 performing dynamic and static NAT, with a DMZ
Novell DNS/DHCP
eDir 8.8 sp2
Okay here we go.
I was in a long battle with the Bordermanger people telling them that TCP was broken. Today I took my BM server out of the tree and rebuilt it from ground up. The problems I am having have nothing to do with BM as when I built this computer from scratch and just did routing, DNS doesn't work.
Okay, so I have a BRAND NEW server that I just built. I have two network interfaces, internal and external. The external is connect directly to the PIX 515 and the internal is connected directly to our internal network.
So, I turn on routing on this new server with SP7 on it, and I can not do a DNS lookup from the server. None of my DNS servers can do lookups, and none of my workstations pointing to my internal DNS servers can do lookups. My DNS servers have pointers to external DNS servers which are running. I can not even see my PIX firewall from inside my network, yet the BM can ping it just fine.
I patched to 681J and tried both Domestic and Null and got the same result.
Then I took the TCP 680b (TCP.NLM, TCPIP.NLM, BSDSOCK.NLM) and put it on the server. WOW, I CAN RESOLVE AGAIN! I can even browse the internet and get to my pix and DMZ.
So why don't I just stay this way? Because the connection to the PIX randomly drops. Again, I do not even have BM installed on this server. If I did, I would have 3.8 sp5 ir1.
Now, if I do the same thing with a POS workstation, build a Netware OES 6.5 sp7 server, everything works fine. Server hardware you ask. Maybe, but it must be specific to Dell 2650 and Broadcom NIC's because I built another server using the EXACT same hardware and got the same result. I also built this on a test Dell 830 server and it worked just fine.
I have proved this over and over and over again with my colleagues and we still don't get it; that we would be the only people with this problem.
Can someone help?
Tom

Ignore this previous post, it is late and I didn't read your post thoroughly.
Sorry

Tom I would seriously check your filtering configs and similar as I am running SP7 OK on 2 BM servers here.
1: Are DNS Queries allowed out through
a: Your PIX IP Filters (plug a machine direcly into your PIX and see if if you can query an external DNS Source)
if a: works
b: Your Netware IP Filters (Test drop your filters and see if you can ping an external host using its dns name
What is yor DNS Configuration?
Are your DNS Servers doing route lookups? or checking your ISP's DNS.
Agreed with Massimo. a quick bit of Wireshark on your DNS Servers might prove extremely helpful.
Hope this helps

  • Cisco E900 ports 1990/tcp and 5916/tcp open on the LAN. Cannot close them.

    Hello,
I just bought a Cisco Linksys E900 wireless router. Can someone explain to me why  the router (192.168.1.1 on my case) has ports 1990/tcp and 5916/tcp open on the LAN?? I cannot find a way to close those ports.
    Just do a simple:
    telnet 192.168.1.1 1990
    or
    telnet 192.168.1.1 5916
and you'll see those ports are open.
    1990/tcp = Cisco STUN Priority 1 port
    5916/tcp = I have no idea
Every client on the LAN (wired and wireless) can connect to those ports on the router. I do not want that to happen. It is unncessary and it is just not secure. I only want the router to have port 443 open on the LAN for the web mgmt interface. I do not want any other unncessary port open.
It would be great to have a response from Cisco directly.
    Thank you for your time.

The router is already updated to the latest firmware (1.0.04 Build 1).
I had to do the update as soon as I opened the box because the default firmware had an incredible serious bug: after setting up the web management interface on the LAN to work over SSL, it was impossible to access the interface because of an SSL bug in the router. The bug is in the release notes of the firmware... that alone says a lot about the very very poor quality of this router.. you can't have that kind of bug in a finished product....
I was able to close port 1990/tcp by disabling WPS in the router, although doing so was pure luck since the router's UI is terrible..
5916/tcp is still open.. since I was able to close 1990/tcp I don't think this is a defective router.. I cannot return a router to the store just because it leaves a port open, the store, sadly, will not take it back... so please Cisco, can you help with this? this product is faulty, it doesn't work as expected, it's your responsability.. please help
Reset the router manually then reconfigure the settings.

  • Are Compressor 3 and FCP2 Fundamentally broken for use of Qmaster Clusters?

Has anybody gotten FCP2 and Compressor 3 to submit jobs to a Qmaster cluster and actually produce output.
I have been trying for days - have read the threads here and in the Compressor section and so far cannot get it to work.
Jobs are automatically canceled on submission and FCP2 then hangs and has to be forced to quit.
Qmaster and compressor services stall and become red in Activity Monitor.
I have reset services and restarted backround service (in compressor) and even done a full os and fcp2 re-install.
I have tried QuickClusters and full managed controller/service clusters. I have tried a single machine cluster and multi-machine clusters. All no-go.
I can make it all work if I submit to "this comnputer" but never to a qmaster cluster.
    Anybody had better results?

    Hi,
I have an ASA5510 running version 8.2(5). I have set up a new network on interface Ethernet0/1.777 of the fwl. The firewall works perfectly with remote access VPNs but has now given me the error with the new network that has been set up:

The difference between the other networks and the new one that I have set up is that this is the first one using a private addressing scheme. I understand that NAT is not allowing something along the way but I cant figure out what needs to change in order to get it to work. My config is as follows:

  • Skype for Linux Listens on TCP and UDP 5744

Hello all, I'm guessing that there's a simple answer to my inquiry that I overlooked in my web searches. I'm running the current version of Skype for Linux (which, as of this writing, is 4.3.0.37). While looking at my computer's running processes, I noticed Skype listens on ports TCP/5744 and UDP/5744 while logged in, allowing it to be a server for some sort of inbound connection. I cannot find any documentation or IANA port registration for Skype, so I posted in the community forum. Does any one know why Skype listens on those ports; and would I have an improved user experience if I permitted my firewall to allow inbound connections on those ports? Thanks!

I've observed this: When I first logged in, I received an inbound connection on the TCP port from a Skype server (determined by Reverse DNS) that was repeated on regular intervals. On the UDP port, I saw what appears to be 'heartbeats' sent out from my Skype client to IPs residing on rather 'prestigious' networks around the World (no more than 50), with those hosts responding in turn. Now, both TCP and UDP connections have continuous activity, so much so, I recorded at least 4GBs of data being transferred in the course of eight ( hours. That equates to 2GB in both directions, bring the total to (at minimum) approximately 568 kb/s connection (factoring in other observations, giving approximations and not providing specifics). I want to note, this additional traffic is appears to be experienced by any client without a firewalled connection to the Internet. I'm now trying to understand how this additional traffic assists in the functioning of the Skype client. Thanks, all!

  • Communication between Windows 7 and Windows 8(and above) using Sockets(TCP and UDP)

I need to use TCP and UDP using Sockets to communicate between two(or more) applications installed in Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Is it possible.? I tried within a LAN, but in vain. If needed I would post the appropriate code.
Note: I only tried running exe(s) in these machines and not with installation.

    Hello Prabodh.Minz,
    >>Is it possible.?
It is not clear what develop language you are using, here are examples which uses the C# based on .NET. It created the communition between two machines by using sockets with TCP protocol, a server and a client:
    Synchronous example:
    Client and
    Server.
    Asynchronous example:
    Client and
    Server.
Multi-client per one server - socket programming in .net(C#)

    There are all .exe.

  • Can TCP/IP communication be used for 2 Labview processes on the same target?

I am a newbie to all this LV stuff so bear with me.  We are trying to create a simulation tool that will run on the same machine as the client GUI [also LV].  Can we use TCP/IP to communicate between these 2 LV processes on the same machine?  If so, how?  Thanks for the help.

    Hi nathand,
I have another issue while communicating with TCP/IP protocol.
I am sending data from RT target to Host computer(Main UI ) using TCP . Also I have created EXE file of main main UI which one is running on Host computer. and ussing this exe file in three different PC  and want to send the control signal from all four PC (three exe installed and one host PC). I created four communication loop in RT with four different port for communication with four PC.
When I am running the all VIs ,Its try to connect to the port of the listener and and showing keep waiting for a connection. Another problem is whatever value we sending from four PC , Target vi receiving random value with actual value. Also every time its getting reset.
    So please help me here.
    Thanks!

  • TCP and LCP files location...

Observing that Lr displays only very few camera calibration profiles and also very few couples camera/lens profiles (for the brand of camera's I use), I made a thorough search of all ".TCP" and ".LCP" files existing in my computer.
Wow ! ... these files are located in a lot of different places !    This certainly from successive updates.
But, I imagine that Lr5 refers only to one "specific directory", showing only the the profiles stored in it.
Here all the directories path where I've found those profiles (Win7-64):
LCP files : by us Program Files = Program (not Program Files (x86)
    C:\Program Fifes\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0\(Brand name)\LCP Files
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CameraProfiles\Lens Correction\LCP Files
    C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfileDefault\LCP Files
    C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\LCP Files
    C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\LCP Files
    C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Downloaded\LCP Files
    C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\LensProfiles\LCP Files
    C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\LensProfileDefaults\LCP Files
    DCP files :
    C:\Programmes\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Resources\CameraProfiles\Adobe Standart\
    C:\Programmes\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Resources\CameraProfiles\Camera\(Brand name/Camera model)\ \DCP Files
    C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Color Profiles\DCP Files
Now... "where" the profiles (involved in the latest version of Lr5) have to be located ?

What to do if a profile doesn't exist in this "good" directory, but well in another (perhaps from a previous version). Are they usable under Lr5-7 ?

What to do with the directories not more used by Lr5-7 ?
    Many thanks for your answers.

    Many thanks, Bob
    Fm Julieanne Kost's :
Lightroom reads camera and lens profiles "from several locations"...
If you use the Adobe Lens Profile Creator utility to create your own lens and camera profiles, Lightroom installs them here:
    X:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2 RC\Resources\CameraProfiles\
    X:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2 RC\Resources\LensProfiles\
Well, if I understand, the correct paths at home are :
    LCP files → C:\Program Fifes\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0\(Brand name)
    DCP files → C:\Programmes\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Resources\CameraProfiles\Adobe Standart
    +             → C:\Programmes\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Resources\CameraProfiles\Camera\(Brand name/Camera model)
Could the other directories found in my PC been used by other application(s) ? (I also have PS)
    Stay 2 other questions:
    1. What to do if a profile doesn't exist in a "correct directory", but well in another (perhaps from previous versions).
Are they usable under Lr5-7 ?
May I transfer them into the right place for Lr ?
    and
    2. What to do with the directories not more used by Lr5-7 ?

I have about 30 Apple TV Units and our IT Director will not allow the appropriate TCP and UDP ports to be opened on the district WAN.  When our teachers try to log on to Apple TV to broadcast lessons, websites, etc., they are booted off the network after about 20 minutes.
Any ideas for how I might solve this without having to hard-wire the Apple TV Units?

    Honestly, you do not.
Either the IT director will cave and allow the appropriate ports or it doesn't work.
Hard wiring the ATVs will not rectify the problem.

  • TCP and UDP

I press the button of guild in windows media player, which will connect internet in the window of player.
i use tool test their TCP and UDP. the result is that the most connections is TCP, there is little conection using UDP. i want to ask what is the TCP use for and UDP use for when conecting internet?
However when i use media player to play online movie and raido. there is only TCP connection, there is no UDP connection. Anyone can tell me why?
i think it is not efficient to use TCP when playing online movie or radio, because it involve frequently connect.

the microsoft would not want the miss any packets. If a packet gets lost on the way from the server to the player, the server just keeps sending data. It is usually better to have some momentary glitch in the audio / video than to stop everything and wait for the missing data to arrive.
Actually, UDP is commonly used for streaming audio / video precisely because it offers speed.
Of course, streaming servers can use TCP, but by default most of them use better protocols like RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) or UDP.
In your case, it might be that the Windows Media server had initially attempted to send data using UDP. For some reason(s) (firewall settings, UDP port closed etc..), it was unable to do so and then used TCP as an alternative :

  • 294.What is the difference between TCP and UDP

What is the difference between TCP and UDP

The difference between TCP and UDP is that UDP throws datagram packets over the wire not concerned whether it arrives at its destination or not. TCP attempts to facilitate the notion of a connection by requiring an acknowledgement by the recipient and continually resending the packets until it receives the acknowledgement or gets a timeout. In a way TCP can be thought of as a layer over UDP but it's more than that. A good analogy is the beginning of the school day vs the end of the school day. In the beginning children enter school in a line and in an orderly fashion. Each child is accounted for. Each child has a defined classroom destination. Likewise TCP packets are sequenced, accounted for, and have a certain destination. At the end of the day all the kids pour out of the building randomly with no regard of whether their buddies are on detention or not. Any particular kid could be heading straight home or to the mall and no accounting is taken. In the same way UPD packets are dispersed from the sender without regard for order. Any packet to make a pit stop at a particular router on the network and no accounting is done to ensure it makes it all the way to the recipient.

  • Tracing TCP Source/Destination Addresses/Ports for ongoing connections

On Solaris 10 U4 through U7, I'm trying the following just to perform basic tracking of TCP source/destination addresses and ports, using code similar to what is available in tcpsnoop_snv and tcptop_snv.
The odd thing is that the addresses/ports appear to be zeroed out - are they being cached outside of the conn_t data structure?
    #!/usr/sbin/dtrace -Cs

    portmap [base-port base_number|disable|enable|number-of-ports number|vip-address-range number]
    disable
Instructs the CSS to perform Network Address Translation (NAT) only on the source IP addresses and not on the source ports of UDP traffic hitting a particular source group. This option does not affect TCP flows.
For applications with high-numbered assigned ports (for example, SIP and WAP), we recommend that you preserve those port numbers by configuring destination services in source groups. Destination services cause the CSS to NAT the client source ports, but not the destination ports.
Note If you disable flows for a UDP port using the flow-state table and configure the portmap disable command in a source group, traffic for that port that matches on the source group does not successfully traverse the CSS.
The CSS maintains but ignores any base-port or number-of ports (see the options above) values configured in the source group. If you later reenable port mapping for that source group, any configured base-port or number-of ports values will take effect. The default behavior for a configured source group is to NAT both the source IP address and the source port for port numbers greater than 1023.
There is no possibility to disable it for TCP.
We need to source nat the port to guarantee that the server response comes back on the same module/CPU and the internal packet allocation algorithm is based on src and dst ports.µ

What can I do? I dropped my iphone (not from a great height) and now it won't turn on however when I plug it in the white apple shows on my screen. My lock button has been broken for awhile so I can't even try switch it on!

Once you have a proven, working Charger... Charge the Device for a couple of hours. Then try to turn it on.
    If no joy...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    If the issue persists...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...
