SPA 2102 - Firmware upgrade

I recently bought an SPA 2102.  Of course it is unlocked (I have full access to user and admin).  The Software Version is 3.3.6.  The Hardware Version is 1.2.5(a).  Everything is working fine.   I went to www.linksys.com to upgrade the firmware.  I noticed that current firmware is 5.1.9 dated 04/03/2007.  I was a little bit surprised with the huge gap between the current 3.3.6 in my SPA 2102 and the 5.1.9 posted on Linksys website as I bought my SPA 2102 a month ago.  Nevertheless, I tried to update the firmware I provide the IP address for my SPA (the same one I use to gain access to the setting webpage).  However I received a message “upgrade fail: No response from SPA”.
I have a feeling that my SPA is a SPA 2100 disguised in SPA 2102.  When I went to SIPURA website, I found that the latest firmware for SPA 2100 is 3.3.6.  The way I understand it is the SPA 2100 is phasing out and replaced by SPA 2102.  I will be concerned that I will have a sort of a phased out device.
I called Linksys technical support and they were slightly above useless.  The guy told me to contact my VoIP provider to upgrade the firmware.  I told him I have no VoIP provider as the ATA is unlocked.  He put me on hold for long time until the call got disconnected.  Usually I don’t count on telephone technical support.  Anyhow this is not the issue.
Here are my questions:
1)      Did I miss something that prevented the upgrade of SPA 2102 to the 5.1.9 firmware?  What settings I should look for to allow the firmware upgrade?
2)      Should I upgrade my SPA 2102 to the 5.1.9 or I am considered part of the SPA 2100 family rather than the SPA 2102?
3)      If I am actually an SPA 2100 in a SPA 2102 box, will I damage my hardware or make it functionless if I upgrade to 5.1.9?

Krishna, this worked for me. I just connected my computer directly to the LAN/Ethernet port of the SPA-2102 and run the firmware upgrade executable file. I initially had the same problem since my computer was connected to the main router.

  • SPA 122 Firmware upgrade

We just upgraded SPA 122 to version 1..1.1 Ver 011. After the upgrade SPA cannot register to the PBX to which it was registered before. PBX doesn't even show any registration attempts by it. From the SPA we can ping the domain to which it is trying to register. Confused.

    Thank you Patrick,
Here is the result of the capture after these instructions. Interestingly in this log I do not even see an attempt to register line 1. We have configured line 1 to register to localpbx and line 2 to register to babytel trunk...

  • SPA112 firmware upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.2.1 kills the SPA

I took a brand-new, unconfigured SPA112 out of the box, plugged it into DHCP-enabled network, noted it was running v1.0.1 firmware and attempted a firmware upgrade to 1.2.1 via the web management utility.
After reporting a successful upgrade there was no further response from the SPA112 to HTTP requests, neither was there any response to pings. ARP requests are responded to successfully. The IVR works (as well as the IVR ever works) until I selected to perform a factory reboot at which point the IVR stopped responding as well. Holding the reset button for 20sec does nothing useful. It's dead, Jim.
I've had this experience on another SPA112 as well under similar circumstances although there is nothing in the Release Notes for v1.2.1 to say that such an upgrade does not work.
    My questions:
1)Is there any way of recovering these devices or do I need to send them back to Cisco?
    2) How am I supposed to perform such a firmware upgrade?

    Hi Matthew,
I tried upgrading the firmware upgrade from v1.0.1 to v 1.2.1 and I had the same problem. The device just stopped responding. I tried that in a lab and I figured out what exactly to do when you get in to a problem like that. So lets start off once again.
Snce SPA112 must get an IP first through a DHCP on WAN port. Connect the SPA 112 device according to the instructins told in this article till the step 3.
    http://www6.nohold.net/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?login=1&pid=4&app=search&vw=1&articleid=2775
Once you access the web GUI of SPA112 follow the contents of the following article and upgrade the firmware
    http://www6.nohold.net/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?login=1&pid=4&app=search&vw=1&articleid=2676
In your case I believe the window got stucked at the point when it says "The upgrade is successful" and then there was no further response to HTTP requests.
Restart the device and see if it works or not. If it does not then log in to the router web GUI and navigate to the ARP table and see what are the VLAN assigned to the IP address.
NOTE: Both the router and SPA should be in the same VLAN. This way only the device will respond to the HTTP requests. If they are in a different VLAN's, navigate to the VLAN and disable the LAN memberships. For example there are two VLAN ID 1 and 100. Disable the LAN ports for the ID 100 and only enable it for 1.
Navigate to the ARP table again and refresh it. Both the IP addresses should be in the same VLAN. If yes. Access the SPA112 with an IP address assigned to it again and navigate to Administration > Firmware Upgrade. You will see the firmware of the device has been upgraded.
(optional) Upgrade the firmware again. This time, it will go through and the device will restart.
Let me know if you still need any help.

  • Random 'Duplicate Digit Dialing' on SPA-2102

I have a Linksys VOIPAdapter SPA-2102 which worked fine for two years but started ‘duplicate digitdialing' from mid-October this year. While it is still working perfectly for callsto and from any US/Canada number, now it always dials "double digits"randomly AFTER getting connected to an international access number(403-260-3325) and then dialing 011 to connect overseas . For example, aftergetting connected if I dial 92-51-2256684 it instead dials 922512256684or 925512256684 or 992512256684 etc. Thus the problem startsafter dialing 13 digits, while the same settings worked fine earlier for twoyears.
I have talked extensively both to my VOIP phone service provider and theInternational Dialing service provider, but both have failed to solve theproblem. The problem is not faced if I use a softphone from my computer, confirming the problem to be in the VOIP Adapter settings. I changed my phonebut that has not solved the problem. I reset the VOIP Adapter to defaultfactory settings by dialing the 73738# code from the handset and then feedingin the settings provided by my service provider (Adminlogin-Advanced-Voice-Line 1) but problem was not solved. Tried the same with877778# code but problem stayed. Downloaded the firmware from Linksys(Cisco)website and upgraded to version 5.2.10 from 3.3.5(a) but problem still there.
Can someone help, as I amunable to dial overseas since last six weeks!

If you tried the different combinations of DTMF Transmit Method and Codec settings you tried the obvious fixes.
To persue further changes, I would download the latest firmware for the SPA2102, install it and re-enter your configuration.  If you are currently running the latest firmware, I would reset the firmware to factory specifications with the IVR and re-enter your configuration.  You can download the latest firmware here:

When you send dtmf digits using the rfc2833 protocol, for each digit the protocol sends a start digit packet, then multiple packets for the digit depending on how long you hold down the key, then an end packet.  If the packets get out of sequence or lost that's when the receiving end can get an error in decoding the digit.  The packets are sent along with the voice stream packet (rtp packets).  If you made the call with XLite using the same voip provider to call the pstn number and experienced no problems whereas you consistently experienced problems with the SPA2102 then it would seem that the firmware in the SPA2102 has some difference with the XLite computer code.  As I said, by default it appears to me the XLite is using rfc2833 as a dtmf transmission method and G711u as the codec.
Several of the Betamax companies have competitive promotional rates to Pakistan.  VoipBuster is 3.0c/min, Rynga is 3.0c/min, Jumblo is 3.0c, 12voip is 3.5c/min, budgetsip is 3.3c/min, and actionvoip is 4.0c/min.  These are euro cent prices.  You could try one of these companies with your 2d line on the SPA2102.  The disadvantage here, though, is it costs 10 euros to get started which is close to $16 Canadian, they can change the rates without warning, and they offer zero customer support.
You could also try a different voip provider to call the pstn number as a test to see if that made any difference.  You can get a pay-as-you-go account with CallCentric for a $5 (US) deposit.  With CallCentric, calls to a Canadian PSTN number are 0.0198 (US) per minute.

  • Server for SPA-2102

Whether probably to use the Server of the centralised storage and updating firmwares and configurations for SPA-2102?

The most important server to have is a SIP server. It is responsible in allowing VoIP to happen in these SPA devices. Usually theses SIP servers are PBX units like the SPA9000 which allow local network VoIP to happen or VoIP provider accounts where it allows VoIP to happen in multiple networks. The firmware file of the SPA units is usually executable so no need for a server just to upgrade its firmware.
If you have further concerns, I suggest contacting Cisco Tech support to further look into your concern. I believe this unit belongs to the business series devices that Cisco is now supporting. Try to go to this link for the other business series devices and the site where you can get hold of Cisco for support:

  • SPA 2102 after RV082, Drops sending on incoming calls at random

Hi, I have read how it should be possible to have a SPA 2102 working together with a RV082 on this page
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9923/products_qanda_item09186a0080a365b1.shtml
Have followed how it should be configured. Opened ports on the RV082 router and configured the SPA2102 for static IP and enabled it to work with NAT.
The phone works however, kind of random it drops the incoming calls on my transmitting side. So if someone calls, randomly it seems, the other person can loose my transmitting side and not hearing me talk anymore, and I can hear "Hello? You still there?"If hang up and the person dials again, there is incoming signal, I lift the phone and it totally quiet, can't hear a thing.
Anyone has ideas what to do with this problem? They are both Linksys products, and as there are even instructions how to make them work together, it should be possible right?
By the way, I only use one of the Internet ports, don't use the second one. Have a direct Ethernet link for the Internet 100/10 so there is no DSL involved.
I could have them rigged up the other way around SPA2102 to RV082, but there are some issues then when it comes to port handling, and if I remember correct the SPA2102 is only 10/10.
    -settings-
I have set the SPA2102 as DMZ on my RV082 router.
Have forwarded port 3478, 5060-5080,5004,10000-20000,16384-16482 (this should proboly be obsolete)
Have set port 8 as it is conneted to as High.
Have set Firewall/Accesss Rules for this IP to be Priority 1 and allow all traffic.
Have included jpg screenshots of settings for my SPA2102.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If your forwarding all those ports to the device and it is still acting up.  I would try a factory reset of the spa2102 and reconfigur it.  Have you checked to see if you have the latest firmware on the spa2102.  If not upgrade that and reset the spa2102 and reconfigure it.  With it being in the dmz host section on the router, it should not have any issues.  The dmz host does not have any firewall rules or any blocked ports pertaining to it so it should be fine with no blocks.  Give that  a shot and lets us know.

  • **SPA2102 FIRMWARE UPGRADE PROBLEM WITH 5.2.12

I'm having problems loading firmware 5.2.12 onto my SP2102-R ATA.  I have my laptop PC running Windows 7 directly with an ethernet cable from my laptop to the ethernet connection on the back of the SPA2102.  I run the .bin file and In order to get the software to the upgrade stage I have to enter ****, 73738 1# to move to the next stage.  I have now been waiting for 1/2 hour waiting for firmware download request from SPA.  IT DOESN'T GET PASS THIS STAGE.......CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL WHAT I'M DOING WRONG OR WHAT I NEED TO DO DIFFERENT?
    Thanks......

Based on my experience with the SPA2102-NA, it is not necessary to do a factory reset (*73738) in order to perform a firmware upgrade/downgrade.
However, now that you have done so, any and all previous user settings will have been reset to the original factory settings (including user set passwords - assuming your ATA is an un-locked SPA2102-NA).
If you think the firmware 5.2.12 is faulty, then repeat the upgrade/downgrade process by downgrading back to an earlier version:

If you are still having problems, see if this tutorial will reveal any procedural issues:

  • SPA 2102 Config

I have some pretty basic questions I could use some help with:
I'm on Hyperdog VOIP,Comcast Cable with a SPA 2102. No other router.
Why when I dial 110# to check the phone IP do I get 76.123.3.245, shouldn't it be 192.168.1.100? The only way I can get into the configuration pages is to put 192.168.1.1 into the browser.
Listed as default gateway on config IP. Does that matter?
My basic problem is choppy calls. No dropped calls, just poor quality. Are there some basic things I should be checking in the configuration?
I've run speed test multiple times:
Download varies a lot. Normally it's in the low 700s but I've seen them at 600 and as slow as 335
Upload stays pretty steady at about 327-345.
    Latency is 311-315.
I loaded the latest firmware (5.2.5) and changed the freq on the cordless phone which helped. I saw no great improvement when I went with a corded phone.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.
Message Edited by rjfoy on 02-22-2008 05:46 AM

    Hello rjfoy,
300+ms latency is bad. If this latency is even unstable (jitter) this WILL cause very choppy calls.
In the SPA config, try to setup Network Jitter Buffer to something like "Extra large" to compensate as much as possible. Anyway, with this latency PLUS big Jitter Buffer the calls are like to be like transmission to the moon - the other party will hear you with (likely 1s or so) delay.
Just a question - who hear choppy sound - you, the other party, or both of you are having the problems ?

  • Phone hang up with SPA-2102

hi...i searched for my problem but couldnt find anything so sorry if this has been posted before.
I have a SPA2102 phone adapter with router. I set everything up and connected The ethernet cable from the adapter to my modem and from the adapter to the PC and then connected my phone line from the adapter to my phone like Im suppose to.
however, when I use my phone, it hangs up after like 2 minutes every time. this is very frustrating as I was not able to find a similar problem by searching on the internet. since my phone keeps hanging up, its also hard to get customer support through the phone.

At this point are you also getting intermittent internet connection? Try setting NAT Mapping Enable and NAT Keep Alive Enable as “Yes”. Ensure that you are using already the latest firmware version for the SPA-2102. Make sure as well that the bandwidth is maintained. For the codec G.711 it should maintain a 64kps bandwidth speed.

  • Firmware upgrade crippled cp1025nw

LaserJet CP1025nw color: was working flawlessly
received email from HP 4/3/2012, recommending firmware upgrade to v 20120130.
ran upgrade 4/3/2012 from iMac, OS10.6.8.
    got error: 'update failed'
print queue says 'printing', cp1025nw doesn't respond.
printer lights:  orange triangle enclosed exclamation mark plus green semicircle
This means: fatal error, per the user manual.
manual instructs to turn off, unplug, plug-in, turn on.  I did this several times.
printer lights still indicate: fatal error.
HP utility says: device status: unknown, service ID: unknown, FW version: unknown, driver version 2.0.20110727
tried to print configuration page: got error 'cannot establish two-way communication with the device'
printer and computer are connected with USB cable,  (this cable / port communicates without issue to Epson inkjet printer)
Tried printing from Dell laptop: Latitude E6410 with USB cable: Windows XP professional, 2002, service pack 3.
has routinely printed from this computer previously.
error message in printer queue: 'error - printing',
Dell said 'found new hardware'  tried to install with HP cd-rom
error message said 'the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software'
ran the HP print diagnostic utility HPPDU.exe file from the Dell with USB cable: 'Everything checks out okay with your printer'
print test page: no response from the cp1025nw
    What should I try next?

Since my last post I’ve retried the same troubleshooting described before, this time just from the PC.  The result is still the same.  Lights on the cp1025nw indicate “fatal error”.
Does anyone know how to put this printer into ‘bootcode’ mode?  I’ve read about this in some other posts about HP firmware updates trashing printers.

    and
    http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/laser/63535
Is there some combination of button presses that sends the printer into bootcode so it is ready to accept the firmware?
HP:  How do you start up these printers when they are just manufactured to load the firmware?

  • HDMI output not working since firmware upgrade

I would appreciate troubleshooting tips for getting the HDMI output to work. I just tried it recently for the first time in a long while, approximately 4 weeks after doing the firmware update to 2.2. When I did it before, plugging in the HDMI cable would automatically start output to my HD TV. Now that is no longer the case. Changing the HDMI output from "Auto" to "720p" does not make a difference either.
Otherwise, everything works well and I've been satisfied with my Creative 7 to date. I have installed several apps so it could be that there is a conflict and nothing related to the firmware upgrade.
Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I've received my refurbished device for about a week now. The HDMI still doesn't work either with Zii Video or a 3rd party app MoboPlayer. ?I am tempted to reinstall the firmware upgrade again. Is it ok to try this or is it only a one time attempt?
Perhaps this should be a separate thread but are any of the "Phone 2 SD" apps compatible with the Ziio 7? Whenever I use the "Move to SD card" option, there is still no program moved to the external SD card. ?I have a Ziio 7 with 6 GB of memory as well as a 6GB micro SD card. ?My memory settings are:
    - SD Card: total space - 5.43GB; Available space - 5.43GB
    - Device media storage: Total space - 2.48GB; Available Space - 2.3 GB
    - System storage: Total Space - .97 GB; Available space - .59GB
In Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, the "On SD Card" tab lists several programs lists several apps but none of them are actually on the external SD card.

  • Sky Router firmware upgraded - can no longer login with credentials

I usually have no problems accessing my sky router (white Sky Hub with ADSL) via the page 192.168.0.1 however I tried to login the other day and was greeted with an updated looking summary screen - all very nice I thought, let's go and explore! However when I put in the usual details - username: admin, password: sky I get prompted to input my details again which is very odd. Now I know that I am the only one who accesses the router in this way as my flatmate has never logged in and probably never will so I can only assume the firmware upgrade has caused the password/username to change. I logged in the other week and the password is saved in my browser so I am sure I am not making any mistake here. I have tried in chrome and IE just in case but I have the same issue in both. Has the new firmware brought a new default password? I cannot find any reference to this anywhere on this site so it seems unlikely. I would rather not reset my router to default settings as I have devices with static IP addresses and port forwarding setup that will take me some time to reconfigure. I don't think there is any feature to backup the config unless you are actually logged in to the router but would love to be worng about this. I am guessing I will have to bite the bullet and reset to factory defaults but would welcome any help or suggestions if possible?

After review the events of the morning.....
I normally keep my routers in the basement where my eth jacks all hub.  High on a shelf, I got reasonable coverage on 2.4Ghz even on the second floor.  I went to this router for the Dual mode, but found the 5Ghz didn't make it sufficiently well to the second floor.  So it was moved to the first floor, on a counter.  That morning the router started acting up a bit, not bringing an iphone online.  It was looked at - and a couple of post cards that had been placed on top, removed.  Air flow was not blocked around the sides in any way - just a few pieces of card stock on top to interfere with convection off the top.
    1.  There is no way to look at temperature - maybe the device doesn't even know its own temp.
    2.  There is no fan that I can discern.  Clearly, creating a device that is designed to sit on a flat surface in a home environment ought to take into consideration "normal impediments to air flow".   Temp controlled fans is simple, well proven tech.
    3.  This design is small, has TWO radios, sits horizonal (thus is going to have lousy convection) - seems to me an engineer ought to have given more thought to not only providing the user with easy to obtain data (temp), alternative methods (fan/vertical mounting) and/or self-protection (to hot, I'm shutting down rather than corrupt my database).
Having spent millions on Cisco gear in my career, I would have hoped that Cisco+Linksys would have a little more Cisco and a little less Linksys.

  • PC-Suite sync fails after Firmware upgrade of E65

After firmware upgrade of E65 PC-Suite stops syncing Calendar & Contacts from outlook. No error messages, just "0 entries has been updated".
    - PC-Suite updated to 7.0.9.2
    - Outlook 2003
    - XP Prof.
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The funny thing is - the notes are synced???? If I restore some old contacts they'll double up in outlook, so I think the problem is, that the sync app doesn't see the outlook contact & calendar folder.
    Does somebody has an idea?

I have the nomad jukebox zen xtra 30gig that froze up over a year ago after i tried to install the firmware upgrade. After the unsuccessful attempt, the mp3 player stopped working.... I have the same problem too, but my unit is a?Creative Normad Junebox Zen Xtra 40GB. I was trying to find a solution to my problem when I read about your problem. I have pressed the reset button, on / off switch, removed the battery, reinstalled the battery, and nothing seems to work.
