SPA3102 - PSTN Distinctive Ring Detection

Hi,
I have SPA3102 connected to Asterisk. I have a single PSTN line with two numbers, each with a distinctive ring pattern. Is SPA3102 capable to detect the ring pattern of an inbound PSTN call and provide this info to the SIP gateway (for example, in the Alert-Info SIP header).
Thanks!

This may not be possible as the this device I think cannot recognize the Ring pattern being to the FXO port for the two numbers.
Some features are disabled or does not work when connected to the SPA3102 compared to when connected to a regular telephone.

    Hi,
is it possible to set distinctive ring tones on the DECT handset via ALERT-INFO?
It seems like the description in the admin guide is only valid for PSTN.

No, as far as I know.
By the way, wrong forum. SPA232D is not SPA IP Phone but SPA ATA gateway.

  • Service Provider Distinctive Ring Call Routing

I have the situation where I want to replace an old key switch with a UC500. The only outstanding issue I have is an inbound ring feature enabled by the provider. The way it works is the customer has 2 phone lines that are members of a service provider hunt group. When they dial the pilot the first line rings and if it is busy the second line rings, no big deal. The issue is that the published fax number is the second line in the hunt group. So if the call comes in directly to the fax number the service provider gives it a distinctive ring, this is currently how the customer knows not to answer the phone and let the fax machine get it. With a UC500 implementation I would like to make this all transparent to the user. So here is my question, is there a way to route the call to the fax machine based off the fact that it rings in with this funny tone from the provider?

Call routing is based on dial plan, not tones. Tones in the speechpath will be sent to the destination, but are not used to determine where the destination should be. Fax pass-through/relay is triggered by the fax tones (CNG) when they start to sync up over the speechpath. Inband ringtones will not trigger these features; they will simply be passed through like plain voice conversation.

  • Distinctive Ring for Fax

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to get distinctive ring for fax on my HP All-in-One with BT Home package or do I need to upgrade to a business package?  Thanks in advance!  Annie

I think you should try again - looks like you
    mistyped the file path /usr/bin/fax.
I have gone back to Terminal and am in a file called usr/bin/fax. However, there's nothing there--no lines of programming that is. At the bottom of the page are headers--Get Help, Exit, Read File, etc.--but clicking on them does nothing, and typing ^G to Get Help for instance does nothing. Obviously I need to do somethong more to get to those lines of programming--specifically the INIT sequence--forgive my non-programer vocabulary--mentioned in the hint above.

  • Distinctive ring vs. new line vs. adding VOIP service like Vonage or Ooma

I'm currently a FIOS/phone (double play) customer.   I need an additional phone number and am considering my options (getting a new line put in, signing up for a new VOIP service like VOnage, going cheap & just getting distinctive ring), trying to understand everything and weigh the costs/functionality/gotchas.
"Distinctive Ring" is a new option I just learned about, and it seems the easiest, and definitely the cheapest (around $5 extra a month).   However it also seems the most limited and there are a few things I don't understand for 100%.
If anyone can answer any of these questions I'd appreciate it:
    - Can you setup SEPERATE voicemail greetings for the existing landline vs. the new "distinctive" ring number?  Or would everyone calling hear the same greeting?
    - If only same outgoing message can be used, then I assume that each number uses the same voicemailbox, but can you setup different mailboxes for each line in a different way, like having your outgoing message say "Press 1 to leave message for Herman or press 2 to leave message for Granpa", thus create at least quasi-seperate voicemailboxes based on who the person was trying to call?  And if so, how?
    - As I understand it not all phones support "distinctive ring" - so how can I findout which of my existing phones do support this (other than signing up for the service then calling myself and seeing how the phones behave)?
    - Is there any way for my callerID boxes to show which # it is that is being called instead of just who is calling?
    - And is this true, that calling out I would only be placing calls from my original line, that for example on callerid of who I am calling, even if pressing callback on my phone and they called my new second #, they would see my original #, not the new one?
    Thanks for any hints.

Hi, the only tip I can give you is as far as testing if your phone is compatible with distinctive ring you could try one of two things, neither of which are free unfortunately.
    1) Call a number that is busy and then use Repeat Dial (*66) to let you know when the number is free. You will get a special ringback when the number is no longer busy.
    2) Try dialing *61 on your Verizon landline phone. In many states you will reach a feature called either Priority Call or Selective Distinctive Alert. If you add numbers to the list, when those numbers call you there will be different kinds of special rings on your phone.
Again, there will be charges on your Verizon bill to do either of these. If you use *61, be sure to clear your list and turn off the feature when you are done so you will not incur any further charges.

  • Program Tiger/iMac G5 to recognize distinctive ring for fax

I have been advised by my phone company that I need to program my computer to recognize the distinctive ring for the telephone number dedicated to the computer. Of course, there is no such selection in "receiving faxes." I went to the site:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031111132356616&query=distinctive +ring
and tried their suggestion--though it's for Jaguar. With some trepidation--given the warnings, I got as far as terminal, sudo pico usr/bin/fax, but when I hit enter--no such file, or some such reply. There must be a way to program this gold standard to answer a distinctive ring--which does not seem to be a unique problem.
    Any ideas???

  • I don't hear the call waiting distinctive ring/tone??

Both my best friend and I have Verizon wireless. When i'm on a call and she calls me she can hear the call waiting distinctive ring however when i call her and she's on the phone i don't hear it.
My question is why is that possible?

Do you think eventually verizon will remove it permantely across the board?
I'm confused.  In your OP you say you don't hear it.  Now you say you would like it removed.  If you don't want it AND don't hear it, what's the problem?

  • SPA3102 pstn-voip dial tone without entering pin

    Hello,
Once spa3102 is authenticated by pin, the adapter gives dial tone without entering pin (just the # sign after the beep) even when a different phone is used to call the spa3102 pstn number.
Isn't this a security compromise? Any one can access my voip account if the pin does not work.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

that's weird...if PIN Authentication is enabled, it prompts the caller to enter the PIN number followed by a # key
how long is your PIN?  i have the same set-up in my house and authentication works fine and i tried pressing # after the beeps but it didn't give me a dial tone....

  • Distinctive ring setting for incoming faxes keeps resetting itself

Hi, I recently installed an Officejet 4500 and in the fax setup wizard I chose "no" for having a distinctive ring for faxes.  I have tried but I am unable to receive incoming faxes and I have noticed that when I run the setup wizard again all of my previous information has been remembered by the choice for the ring setting has been changed to "distinctive ring". Any advice is appreciated.

Run a FAX TEST from your printer. -Press SETUP-press the right arrow until you get to "TOOLS" touch OK-press right until "RUN FAX TEST"  Your printer should give you a read out of 6 or 7 items and marks them as PASS or FAIL. What fails?  Also turn "ERROR CORRECTION" to "OFF" and "FAX SPEED" to "SLOW"from the FAX SETTINGS MENU. Then Fax 1-888-473-2963. (1-888-HP FAXME) This is a FAX TEST line where you can test your OUTGOING and INCOMING FAXES. First you send a fax then a few minutes later you recieve a fax back if every thing is working properly.

  • Distinctive Ring

Unable to receive faxes...how can i get a distinctive ring service since it conflicts with my Brother Multi Function Fax Machine

Based on your question, I'm not certain I am understanding if you already have distinctive ring or are thinking about getting it. I'll try to cover both scenarios.
If you have distinctive ring and your fax is not picking up, the most common thing we see is the settings are not set for the proper ring pattern on the machine. i.e. the settings are set for triple ring instead of double, etc.
If you are inquiring on whether distinctive ring will work for your machine, as long as it can recognize different ring patterns it should be fine.
The usual misunderstanding we see is in the functionality of distinctive ring is thinking it operates like a second phone line. With distinctive ring it uses the same base phone line and assigns a second number and a special ring. If the line is being talked on, no fax can come in, if a fax is being received/sent , nobody can talk on the phone line.

  • Fax modem w/distinctive ring recommendation

I need a USB fax modem recommendation for use with an Intel iMac. I understand that I can use Apple's external USB modem but I don't believe it has distinctive ring recognition capabilities which I need.
Does anyone know of a USB fax modem I could use with an Intel iMac with distinctive ring recognition?
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, AFAIK, only the apple modem has drivers for OS X.

  • Shut off all sounds except one distinctive ring?

Can I shut off all sounds and leave on just one distinctive ring?
When I go to sleep I'd like to leave my phone near me.  I don't want to get any sounds from it, except the ring from the nursing home where my mother lives.  Everything else can wait until morning.  Can I do this on an Iphone 6 or 5?
Upon awakening, I'll reset to get all the sounds.

On one of my operator's forum I've received help. On adapter, in Line section (the one where I don't wanna hear ringtone when my numeber is called) I set DND Settings:Yes (which stands for Do Not Disturb). This makes my phone completely silent and I can make calls (the line must be registered, in the other case Make Calls Without Registration must be On).
I'm still curious what's going on with Distinctive Ring Patterns since my phone has only melodies as ringtones, though (is this function useful in this case?)
    Anyway, thanks for your intentions.

  • SPA3102 PSTN calls dropped

I have inserted an SPA3102 between my regular telephone and the PSTN line, and find that the calls are being dropped with regular monotony (and this doesnt happen when the SPA3102 is not in the equation). The calls tend to be conference calls where I am listening rather than speaking. The Info page shows that the last PSTN disconnect reason to be 'PSTN activity timeout'  and the PSTN activity timer is set to '30000 (ms)', although I am not aware of any breaks in the conversation when the line gets cut off - it can even cut off when I am speaking? The line simply goes dead and then I get the UK 'unobtainable' tone.
Can anyone provide advice on how to rectify this?

UKfarmer wrote:The last couple of disconnects the PSTN disconnect reason is CPC signal, so the nature of the disconnect seems to be varying. Is it safe to switch off both CPC and long silence detection? You should read about CPC as to what it is. This web site has a summary: http://www.sandman.com/cpcbull.html Switching it off affects the ability of the SPA3102 to detect when a called party has hung up. There is also a setting for the minimum duration of the CPC.>how would I switch on syslogging to track in detail what is happening? You download a syslog program and run it on your pc, you put your pc's ip address on the SPA's system tab, you set the Debug Level to 3 on the SPA's System tab, and you set the Sip Debug Option to FULL on the Line and on the PSTN Line tab (on a SPA3102). You can download a syslog program on this web site: http://www.sipura.net/Documents/faq/Section_2.html#9
Edit: Looks like Linksys abandoned the sipura web site, anyway you can't download the program right now. There is a free Kiwi syslog program that works OK. Search for it.
I have also tried a VOIP call into the SPA and out over the PSTN line. In this configuration I can hear the remote party but they cannot hear me.There is quite a bit written about that common problem. It is a NAT Travsversal problem caused by your router. Search the forums for one way audio.

  • SPA3102 - PSTN to SoftPhone and Vice Verse

    Dear Geeks..
I am a beginner to VOIP technology, appreciate your assistance in achieving the following :
    Hardware : SPA3102
    Free PSTN Line
    Softphone : not yet
    There are two requirements
    Primary:
If anyone call a local number  it should ring a softphone (Pls Recommend the best) installed on a computer.
    Secondary
I should be able to place call from my softphone which will allow me to dial a local number connected to the SPA3102
I have searched a lot but cannot find proper guidance. Hope someone could help me to achieve the above.

    Hello rhb5
If the video was recorded with the camera on your iPhone, then it is matter of importing them to your computer.
iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
To get the videos to sync to your iPhone, they would need to be in iTunes and you can do that by just dragging and dropping the video on top of iTunes. Then use iTunes to sync them over. They then would show up in the Videos app. If you have issues with syncing the video, then you may need to convert the video and iTunes can do that for you.

  • SPA3102 PSTN Echo

    Hi there,
I have several SPA3102s in my enviroment that I am using to connect legacy PSTN lines to the VoIP network. Calls come in on the PSTN lines and are routed to our Asterisk server by the gateways. The Asterisk server connects the calls to the correct IP phone extensions. When calls come in this way (or go out using the same line) the inside party hears an echo of themselves. During an individual call, quality fluctuates but the echo is present during every call. Calls between IP extensions have no echo. Calls connected to the PSTN network through a different gateway from the same IP extension have no echo.
So far I have upgraded all gateways to the current firmware and followed the troubleshooting steps outlined here; http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps10024/products_qanda_item09186a0080a359cc.shtml
with no luck. Turning off the built in echo reducing features makes the calls consistent, with bad echo constant throughout all PSTN calls but none of the other steps reduce the echo as much as the built in features. I have searched the forums and not found anyone else have this problem with just the PSTN port. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey guys, have you tried the following to reduce echo on the SPA3102.
    Q. How can I reduce the PSTN  echo on SPA3102?
    A. Experiencing echoes in the PSTN line is a  common problem. This is because the SPA3102 passes calls from the PSTN  to LINE1 by converting it to VoIP internally then converts it back to  analog. This process does not produce any echo, however, it can add  about 30ms of latency to the call which later produces the echo.
Reducing the Echo on the PSTN Line
Make sure you are running the latest firmware.  Everything should be set to factory defaults, or at least undo all the  previous tweaking.
Disable all the echo cancellation functions of your  SPA3102. These settings can be found on line 1 and PSTN line tabs of  your SPA3102. Echo Canc Enable = No
Echo Canc Adaptive Enable = No
    Echo Supp Enable = No
Remove devices connected to your phone line except the  SPA3000. This includes all the extension cables and splitters. These  can cause impedance problems which lead to echoes.
Set the FXO port Impedance on the PSTN tab to  220+820||120nF, and set FXS Port Impedance to 220+820||115nF as a  starting point.
Look for Network Jitter Level on the PSTN Line  tab and set it to low. Then, look for Jitter Buffer Adjustment and set it to disable. This reduces the delay across your  SPA3000. Note: If you are using a poor quality VoIP  service, go to the Line 1 tab and look for Network Jitter Level.  Set it to low and set the Jitter Buffer Adjustment from up to down. However, if you are using a poor quality PSTN, set the Network  Jitter Level to medium.
Go to the PSTN Line under Audio Configuration. Look  for Preferred Codec and set it to your preferred settings, then  lock it in by setting the Use Pref Codec Only to yes.  Adjust these settings if you are accessing your PSTN line via VoIP from a  remote network. Then, go to Line 1 and set Preferred Codec with  the same settings you set with PSTN Line. Under Preferred Codec Only set it to no. These settings reduce your latency and can make  the echo less obvious or easier to catch with the echo canceller.
Power cycle the SPA3000 by powering down the device.  This sometimes fixes the problem especially after changing the physical  phone wiring.
Make some test calls and observe if you can hear an  echo. If yes, the problem might be that you are sending too much power  down the line and it gets reflected back somewhere as an echo. Even if  you have good wiring but you are too close to the mouthpiece, you will  still hear an echo. To resolve this, you need to increase the level of  Gain by going to PSTN and look for SPA To PSTN Gain, then  slowly adjust the level until you can clearly hear the person on the  other line. Note: If you enable Echo Supp Enable,  you will negate these parameters. The echo suppression is just an  automatic gain control. It is recommended to keep it disabled.
Make a test call to someone with a phone that works  via the SPA's PSTN line, or call in to the PSTN line. If the remote  party is hearing an echo, your phone might be loud and is experiencing  feedback in the microphone. Lower the PSTN to SPA Gain until you are  comfortable hearing the person on the other line. If the remote user can  still hear an echo, try using a different phone plugged into the SPA.  If this solves the problem, your phone might not be working properly, or  there is an impedance mismatch between your phone and the SPA. Try  changing the FXS Port Impedance to 600 on the Regional tab and  change the FXO port impedance to 600 or global. If  this does not help, change it back. The impedance will only affect what  the remote party hears and will not help remove the echo you are  hearing.
After lowering the echo to a tolerable level, go back  to the PSTN tab and enable Echo Can Enable by selecting Yes,  OK. Check if the echo has improved. If the echo is tolerable at  this level, leave the adaptive echo canceller off. You should have the  echo level down to a level that can be filtered by the echo canceller.  If you are using a sip device to talk through your PSTN line, you should  probably do all the echo cancellation at that device and leave it  switched off in the SPA.
