Space bar jumping around in safari

Im not sure if its my computer, but I've recently had a problem with my space bar in safari. It seems everytime I type a word in any text field the cursor will jump back to the beggining of the word I just typed or to a previous word in the sentence. And I cannot type sentences witout clicking the cursor to where I need it after everyword. It only happens when im in safari. Ive looked at all my prefereneces and nothing seems to be wrong. any suggestions?

This happens to me too. I don't know what's wrong. It happens when typing on Twitter and on Instagram, for example. But it didn't happen while writing this. I hope someone can help!

  • Scroll bar jumps around

I doubt there is a solution... 5 versions in, but I'm scrolling to the bottom of 2000 images -- I let go of the cursor and the scroll bar jumps up to the top near image 100. Ongoing issue. thanks.

When loading files in Bridge it starts to cache and keeps the focus on the selected file. Therefor scrolling without selecting the image below will mean the preview shows the first selected file and when rebuilding the thumbs in the content window it automatically puts the matching thumb in view. This is as designed.
However when there is no activity at all (importing and caching is done and the activity bar shows no action) it should work as expected. It also does so on my system

  • Images jumping around in Safari

When I play games on my Intel iMac, images will randomly get larger and smaller on the display. Plus I can click on an item in a game several times before the mouse will respond. This doesn't seem to happen anywhere but games in safari. What would be causing that?

Go step by step and test.
    1. Delete Caches.db
Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
        Select "Library" from the dropdown.
        Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari > Caches.db
Right click the Caches.db file and select "Move To Trash.
        Close windows and relaunch Safari.
    2. Empty Caches
        Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
    3. Delete Cookies
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
        Click “Remove All Website Data”.
    4. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn off Extensions if any and launch Safari again to test.
Turn on those one by one and test.
    5. Delete Safari .plist file.
Quit all applications. Click on an empty spot on the desktop to activate Finder.
Hold the “Option” key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select “Library” from the drop down.
       Library > Preferences >  com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click it and select  "Move  to Trash".  Close Finder window.
       Please don’t empty the Trash.
       Restart. Launch Safari.
      Test Safari.
       If this doesn’t help;
      Put back the com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”
Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.

  • Space bar scrolling in safari is slow and laggy

Been searching this for a few days, and while I know some people are having "jaggy" scrolling issues in Safari (caused - or not - by the new Flash install), my experience is slightly different, and appeared at some point over the last week or so.
In short, it's just a lot slower to scroll via space bar. It used to snap right down to the next part of the page almost instantaneously, but now it sorta "slides" down. Scanning long web pages is a drag.
Chrome and Firefox still jump instantly to the next page via space bar, so it's a Safari-based issue. Curiously, the two-finger scroll is still fairly instant on Safari, but it's not a natural movement for me.
Anyone else having this issue, or possible fixes?

    Ok...
Some users with a similar issue found a solution by uninstalling the Flash plugin, then reinstall new, then repair permissions. See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11691898&#11691898
    Uninstall Flash
Install the most recent version of Flash here.
    Now repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Upgraded to snow leopard, now safari scrolls a page down when space bar is hit and sometimes crashes.  Any ideas for a fix?

I just upgraded to the new snow leopard, now my Safari is acting loopy.  At times, the page will scroll down when I hit the space bar.  As I type this discussion the screen isn't paging down, but if I go to the tab where I have facebook loaded and hit the space bar, it acts as a page down key.  I've had safari crash about 5 times tonight for no apparent reason.  The delete key sometimes will act as a page back key.  I really have no idea whats going on.
I've had keyboards go wacko on me before due to something being spilled on them or a wireless problem, but this keyboard is a wired keyboard and nothing was spilled on it.  It's rather new and I'm quite certain it's not a keyboard issue.
No settings have been changed on the computer.  The only thing different today from yesterday, is the fact that I upgraded to snow leopard.
    Help would be pretty sweet.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • I lost my space bar on my safari but only safari.  Help

I was typing along and suddenly my space bar dissappeared in safari. I have a space bar everywhere else and now I can't surf the web. Any suggestions?  Please help!

Which part of Safari are you typing in ? If you are on the URL address field then you won't have a space bar as spaces aren't valid in web addresses

In safari, the space bar on the keyboard disappears when I try to type in the search bar?  (yet works fine when I tap the google search bar). Any suggestions?

    James Ward4 wrote:
Thats actually not a search bar. It's the address field. Frankly I hadn't noticed that the space doesn't display for the field, but it probably shouldn't. No well formed web address should have a space.
It should be noted however that the address bar is not strictly for URLs. You can also type bookmark names and history items (though not web searches). Here a space would occasionally come in handy. In fact when using an external keyboard it is possible to enter spaces in this field. So this is strictly a limitation of the on-screen keyboard.

Suddenly my space bar is no longer giving me the hand tool to move around on my artwork window.  How do I reset this?

Thanks for getting back. I know my answers seem too obvious at times, but never leave out the simple ones just in case.
So lets look at two things: Keyboard Shortcuts and System Preferences.
Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts opens a dialog box. Press your Option key, and the Cancel button turns into a Reset button to get shortcuts back to defaults. Clicking on Reset may fix it.
The second is Preference resets. Hold down cmd-opt-shift and start Photoshop. It will ask if you wish to delete the settings file. Answering "Yes" many times clears up the problem.

  • Hitting space bar  scrolls safari or other programs twice

when i hit space bar safari or programs that accepts space bar for scrolling, twice as much as one hit happens. touch space but n twice scrolling happens. not sure why this is happening any help please? 1.42 ghz powerpc g4 512 mb built in

Hi, Natasha. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. Check the settings in the System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard tab. You might try setting a slower the Key Repeat Rate or a longer Delay Until Repeat.
    2. If you're using an external keyboard with your iBook, try a different keyboard.
    3. If the Space Bar is sticking in other uses, e.g. normal typing, there may be a problem with the keyboard itself.
    4. What changes did you make to your Mac before this problem arose? If the problem arose after making a change, it's possible the change is the cause.
    Good luck!

  • My space bar has disappeared when I open safari, and has been replaced by other keys. I don't understand why?

My space bar has disappeared when I open safari and been replaced by other keys, does anyone know how this happened?

When you tap in the address field to type the web address, another keyboard pops up without the space bar as no spaces are need when typing the web address. Just tap anywhere on the screen or on the keyboard icon in the lower right corner and the keyboard will go away.

  • Almost perfect the third time around; space bar...

Here's my short MacBook Pro story.
Got one, whine, sent back. They replaced it, got another one with a whine. This time they said they'd only repair it. I sent it for repair and they couldn't repair it so they replaced it. Third MacBook I get doesn't whine but it has this annoying issue.
On the right side of the space bar (the side I use most often, more like always) someone is wrong. It makes a 'squeek' sound when I press on it while typing and it doesn't feel firm when I press on it at all. Sounds like I need a new keyboard right? Problem is, this would be the third time I would be going without a computer in the last two months and every time I do this, I really lose productivity.
So, do I have any options? I really would like to solve this another way (physically myself, unlikely or could the keyboard be replaced at an Apple Store?)
    Thanks.

i am sorry you have had so many problems...
i have hd repairs at apple where they lost my hardware for months...
    they eventually made it right...
call support, complain loud enough to get a dispatcher and ask for freeies...
they say they will not.. but they will
regarding your keyboard... at least a straight swap is only a couple days.. a dispatcher will send you an airbill when they see the MBP scanned into FedEx's shipping system.. as long as it is on its way they can release a replacement..
since MBP's are shipping pretty quick these days you should only be down a couple days.... there is no reason for you to accept anything less
if they tell you otherwise, threaten to call the local news and tell them you want to return the unit if they will not accomadate you.. they will overnight the replacement and probably through some free RAM or an upgrade int he mix....
regarding the whine, I see this from time to whine. (sorry) ... basically, here is what I note.. most do whine lightly under low load... some louder than others.... the whine sometime disappears.... I would (if you get another that has a whine) relax and run quiet macbookpro or open photobooth for a month or two... then address the issue.. here is why.... wen you run XP.... MBPs are silent..... did you get that.. the software can correct the whine.. it is a power managment issue... apple is balming hardware.... but it is a hardware issue.. they WILL get it ironed out and then some day in the near future you will get a software update and whamo.... no whine
i would not send mine in if it whined and I would advise anyone that has a whiner to install XP.. see if it whines.... it won't.. call apple and tell the tech when you report the issue... if you send a report to apple using the software in your computer..... mention that XP's power managment does a better job on their hardware than they do....
lastly, i want to point out that intel has noted the noise issue when the processor is idle..and has a driver for the core duo that is newer than bootcamps... additionally, XPSP2 has a specific update for the core duo's power regulation you can download from MS.... they have more experience working on this hardware.. it makes sense they would have it figureed out a bit...
ok... really lastly, why am I the only one I ever hear that is completely convinced it is a software issue? I mean.. has ANYONE ever had a MBP that whined (not the screen noise reported) when running XP????
    anyone....
WHY IS APPLE NOT ADDRESSING IT THAT WAY????
*sorry to shout.. just hoping somebody at apple reads the thread and pays attention*

  • Space Bar Hand Move & CMD-Space Zoom Not Working-CS5

Today, all of a sudden, two of my most used functions—holding down the space bar to move the image around and holding down CMD-space bar to zoom—just up and quit on me (I do like the "Scrubby" but it took a little getting used to. It's very touch screen-esque).
I did all of the normal trouble shooting such as deleting the prefs, relaunching, restarting, etc. Nothing. The functions work fine in the other CS5 programs.
Anybody else come across this? I checked through all of the prefs thinking that perhaps I accidentally changed something but I couldn't find anything. If all else fails, I'll do an uninstall/reinstall but only as a last resort.
I did notice that Adobe finally fixed the Distort (in Full Screen Mode) bug that was killing me in CS4.
    Thanks for any help.

I don't believe it but I think that I finally found the culprit: hulu (the desktop app, not through a browser).
To make sure, I rebooted, launched PS, Flash, and InDesign, and then fired up every app that I could think of, one by one, testing each time, leaving hulu for last. Sure enough, it was not until I got to hulu that the space bar hand/zpom stopped working. And then I went one by one, quitting each app, testing each time, again leaving hulu till the last. Sure enough again, the space bar continued not working until I quit hulu, the very last app that I had running (aside from CS5 and system processes).
Please, please do not tell me that there is a conflict between CS5 and hulu's utilization of Flash! That would just make Mad Dog Jobs' a happy camper. (I am a big supporter of Flash on the iPad).
What a relief. Except how am I now going to watch my TV shows while working???
In regards to browser conflicts, I have had none with Safari, Firefox, or Chrome.
Adobe, I hope that this information helps. Let me know if you need any info screen capped.

  • Mouse arrow jumps around on the screen

mouse arrow jumps around on the screen

My iMac is unusable! If I click on a file the highlite runs down to the last file in the folder
When I boot up the hilight jumps all over the screen until it arrives at my startup drive.
If I type something and make an error it cannot be corrected, the cursor dances back to the begining of the sentence.
When clicking on the tool bar, eg. Safari "file" the cursor moves to all the other menu bar options.
I use "MacKeeper" for virus control. For a while it wouldn't load. Zeobit was able to correct that problem by remotely going into my computer and fixing everything the needed to be fixed. They solved that problem and the computer seemed fine. MacKeeper is currently checking all of my drives and partions. They also updated my virus library. This was yesterday (9/15/2012).
I scanned my startup disk this morning and it was clean. I also scanned two of my external drives as well as my internal drive. So far all are clean.  7 Drives to go.
I am running OSX 10.8.1 on an early 2008 iMac.
    4 GB RAM
    1.5 GB startup drive
3 external drives running on UBS via two docks.
3 External WD 2T external drives.
    3 MyBooks drives via Firewire.
A total of 9 external drives with 15 partitions. All are Western Digital.
There has never been an issue with this configuration. I've been using Apple products since the "Fat Mac", twenty or so years. So I know my way around my macs, at least enough to solve any problems that have occured.
There are no authorized Apple techs in the country of Panama. Would sure appreciate help on this.
    Thank you,
