Space bar on keyboard missing on iPad 2

On both of my iPads (2&3) as well as my iphone, the keyboard is displaying but not the spacebar. it is occurring only on Safari (not Pages or other apps to type in)

If you are typing in the URL field in Safari, you will not see the space bar. You cannot add spaces in the URL/address field and the iPad knows that when you tap in that field (place the insertion point) so the space bar does not appear on the keyboard.
It is perfectly normal behavior.
Tap in the search field in Safari and the space at appears.

My wife uses an original iPad with iOS 5. Recently when trying to enter Safari she finds that the keyboard which appears does not have a space bar on it which makes it difficult to enter an address. How can she recover it??

If she is trying to type a URL into the address bar of Safari, the space bar will not be present because spaces are not allowed in URLs. The keyboard is program to not display the ace bar in situations where spaces are not allowed.

Space Bar on keyboard malfunction

The keyboard space bar on my 17" G4 Powerbook stopped working...
Anyone have this problem? Any ideas on how to fix?

What are the symptoms.... is it sticky, did you spill on it? If it's neither try restarting the computer, running disk utility, and if none of that works take it to the apple store to get fixed.

Need to replace space bar on keyboard

I need to replace space bar on my keyboard of my HP Pavilion Entertainment PC.
It has been completely pulled off and won't click back. I think that little brackets are broken too. I don't know where to go to find the replacement or to have someone replace it for me. Please advise.

Is your warranty valid?
In such case recommend contacting the ASP in your country to replace the kneeboard since this would be covered by warranty and it would be done free of charge.
As far as I know the keyboard replacement procedure is the same like for the R700 Portege series
Its difficult because you will need to remove other parts like
Battery, sim card, express card slot, memory modules, base assembly to get access to an
aluminum tape from the back of the cover assembly. Then you could turn the cover assembly face up and peel off the keyboard adhered to the insulator.
And additionally you can not use the removed keyboard and keyboard insulator again. You will need to use new parts.

No space bar on keyboard

I'm trying to log in to a website and my iPhone has decided I don't need a space bar for this page, but my user name for the site requires me to be able to put in a space. Is there a way to make a space on the version of the keyboard that doesn't give me a space bar?

I don't think it will be possible to put a space in an area where you want to enter in your Username, because I don't know of one website that you can have a space in your Username, which is why the new 2.0 software update does not allow you to put a space in a Username field. I believe that is the case.

Missing space bar

from time to time both my iPad Mini and iPhone 4S the space bar on the virtual keyboard goes missing. I've tried to power cycle and reset the phone but the problem persists.

The keyboard is contextual.
Meaning when it thinks you might need or spaces are allowed, the space bar appears.
In areas like your browsers address bar, you won't have a pace bar since URLs do not contain spaces.

Just got my ipad for Xmas. It really is great, but I have a lot to learn. Somehow when exploring the keyboard I have managed to replace the keyboard with various other exclamation marks etc. I can't get the space bar back. Please help a poor beginner.

If you are using the keyboard in a text field where the space bar is not needed, the space bar disappears. When you are typing a web address in the URL field in Safari, for example, there will be no space bar on the keyboard.
Is that the behavior that you are seeing? Tapping the ABC key or the 123? Keys will also change the keyboard to different characters.

HT1343 "Option-Space bar" is missing and I can't get rid of it, unfortunately!

One shortcut seams to be missing in my case.
"Option-Space bar"
which I can't find in any settings. I just want to get rid of it. In my case, it opens a kind of Spotlight window where the usual Spotlight Window is, but it's grey instead of blue. I've a fresh installed Mountain Lion roaring.
Any Ideas, appreciated.

That is correct, but got that mutch to do with what I'm talking about. In System Preferences -> Spotlight are two key combinations set
1. "Command-Space bar" and
2. "Command-Option-Space bar"
I'm perfectly happy with these. I simply can't find the place where "Option-Space bar" shortcut is configured. This shortcut seams to be global and calls a similiar "search field" as "Command-Space bar" does, besides it's grey instead of blue. As all global shortcuts are, this one should be configured in System Preferences -> Keyboard (Keyboard Shortcuts), but it ISN'T. Is there any other place where shortcuts can be configured, or ist there a software which collects ALL Keyboard Shortcuts used, global and application specific ones?

Space Bar on Alum Keyboard Intermittent

Hi All,
I have a brand new wired aluminum keyboard which came with my iMac 24". I just started to use the keyboard with my MacPro Quad 2.5 about a week ago.
The space bar on the keyboard does not register a space about 50% of the time when I press it. I had this exact same problem with another of the same keyboard a coupla years ago and as I recall there was some sort of update or firmware update that came out back then. I cannot find that update...can you direct me to that keyboard updater???

Thanks for the link but the update installer says it cannot be installed on my computer.
I will keep looking or just buy another keyboard I guess. Its too bad really, I LOVE this keyboard but cannot tolerate making many many corrections every time I type a paragraph or two...I actually have 2 of these keyboards and they both malfunction the same way.
Sometimes Apple just misses the mark by a tiny bit...oh well...thanks again.

HT4509 Keyboard language - permanent indication on space bar

On my iPhone, the chosen language is indicated all the time on the space bar. Not so on the space bar of my iPad, only when languages are changes. I would like it to be indicated permanently, too. How do I do that? Thanks!

Virtual Keyboard space bar too big..

Actually 6 cm out of 14 total. By comparison with the A1359 Keyboard base it should be 4.5 to 5 cm, to keep the same proportion. You could then implement a non-erasing backspace key marked "<--" and a delete key to correct typing errors. The current system of mirror lens and positioning is an insult. Only chinese girls under 10 have small enough fingers to use it, if at all.
If you are typing in a non normal sitting position, particularly in bed,when you enter other chars or switch to numeric key extra spaces are inserted.
It's a nuisance. Reduce the size. Alternatively, you can make the space bar more insensitive, required you hold it a bit more time, but I realize not all people would like it, breaks the rythm..

U350 - Any Keyboard flex (space bar)?

My U350's space bar feels particularly flimsy compared to the other keys. It appears that my space bar area is 'buckled' upward. I can push down on the space bar (the keys flexes downward for at least 1 mm) and make it go flatter, which gives it a much better feel. THe right half of my space key sticks up visibley higher than the left half.
I am wonder if my keyboard is missing a screw near the space bar. Anyone know how many screws are used to secure the keyboard? I found 2 on the bottom and 3 more underneath the battery. Any more? Or anyone kow how i can remove the keyboard?

I figured it out!
The keyboard for the U350 is held down by 3 screws and 2 tabs. 2 of the screws are on the back casing and one is underneath the battery pack (the screw that's closer to the front of the front of the machine) The tabs are the tiny silver plastic 'stops' located at the left alt key and center right of the space bar at the front edge of the keyboard. To remove the keyboard, take out the two screws, then push in the tabs inward (toward the front of the laptop) very gently, then lift up the front of the keyboard.
My problem was that the tab at the space bar did not catch the bottom frame of the keyboard. I took a very thin edge and lightly bended the tab outward til it catches the keyboard. Now the keyboard types like a dream!
Maybe this info will be helpful to someone in the future!

I already have multiple devices and by far I like my iPad the most over laptops and the iPad. That including checking out my friends MacBook Air.
The difference for me is the touch interface on the screen itself for things that do not require a lot of typing. For me, the iPad is more "magical" than anything else I've used.
Again, I do appreciate your answers but you don't know my situation. Not everything is as it is perceived without knowing me and what I have to go through.

All new keyboards need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and above for full functionality.
Rather short-sighted of Apple perhaps, but that seems to be a trend these days.
I'm afraid the only fix is to upgrade to SL. Personaly, I'd take it back and get a refund and seek an older keyboard or a third-party one elsewhere.

The space bar does not seem to be working on wireless keyboard wired keyboard works fine?

Can anybody help? The space bar on my wireless keyboard has stopped working. i have tried all the preferences resets and checked the speech prefrences and they're all normal, i've got the old original usb keyboard and space bar works fine. I've tried taking one end of the spacebar up giving it a blow though incase of dust but that all seems clear.
Anyone got a solution?
