Space bar won't change into hand tool while pressing

Today, I was suprprise to find out the space bar in my computer white trying to move my image to centain section.
It is a very very handy and timesaving shortcut. does anyone know anyrhing or have the same issue, using Illustrator CC/16?
For instance I came to think is my keyboard but I checked with older software and it's working file.
I appreciate any imput.

Spacebar as hand tool is restored!! I think Dave was right about something interfering with it. The only thing that i changed on my system before this happened was that I unlocked my login in keychain access. Once I went back to keychain access and locked login again, did a restart and opened photoshop, the spacebar as hand tool was restored! So if anyone else has this problem, think back to what you did last on your system and revert to how it originally was. Hope this helps somebody out there

CS3 space bar won't work as hand tool

Adobe Reader 8 won't start in "hand tool" mode

I have Adobe Reader 8.1.3 on Vista Home Premium.
The program will not start in 'hand tool' reading mode, it always starts in 'select tool' mode and I have to change it manually. If I quit reader after switching it to 'hand tool' mode, it does not remember, and next time starts in 'select tool' mode again.
In Edit -> Preferences -> General -> Basic Tools, the only Hand- or Select-tool checkbox that is checked is "Make Hand Tool Read Articles".
Based on a similar question in the Adobe Reader Unix forum (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c055988) I fould all the instances of registry key "aDefaultSelect" that I could (4 of them) and changed their values from "Select" to "Hand".
However this did not solve the problem!
Any help would be much appreciated.

Nevermind, seems to be working now!

Controls won't change when a tool is selected.

When I select a tool such as brush or eraser the controls at the top of Illustrator do not change tot the tools setting there for I can not adjust the tools settings such as size, softness etc.... How do I fix this?

You may be confusing between Photoshop control bar and Illustrator... you have to double click on brush or eraser to invoke it's controls in Illustrator.

Date in top right of bar won't change to today's date

The date to the top right of the bar won't accept my correction in the "Date and Time" option boc. The bar reads "Saturday 29 June 2007" when it should be the 30th today. I try to alter it, but it won't accept - in fact, in the "Date and Time" calendar itself the 30th is actually highlighted and correct, but it still won't accept my correction. Any suggestions - I turned off the computer and unplugged all as I read as a suggestion, but to no avail.
So to make it clear:
The bar says "Saturday 29 June 2007"
but the calendar in "Date and Time" box says "Saturday 30 June 2007", and won't accept my prompts to change the bar...

I tried customizing it earlier - and have also done it again now as per the advice, but now if I check the box that opens up below the date in the top bar it changes one number each time!
Interestingly, I have had two 'kernal panics' today while deleting double-ups of photos on iPhoto. prior to this, i didn't even know these things existed! All this comes after having downloaded Safari Beta a few days back, and then it crashed. After speaking with an Apple consultant on the phone, I erased everything and reinstalled OS X only yesterday (no archiving or anything - I had files backed up to DVD and have since put them back on the computer). Now these problems seem to be happening...any ideas?
I have run the disk utility things and everything is apparently fine...so I have no idea...

Space bar won't type a space

I have had this problem for a few years, over several versions of Photoshop in several Mac operating systems. Currently I am using CS4 on a Mac 10.6.8. My space bar randomly stops typing a space when I am typing a line of text. I can type every letter except a space. Sometimes the space bar starts working properly if I save the file and start typing again. Sometimes I have to quit Photoshop to make the space bar start working properly. The problem doesn't happen often, but when it shows up it is annoying for awhile. Any thoughts as to where I might look to solve the issue?

When you post for help, please state which OS X is installed.
If you aren't sure, click About this Mac from your Apple menu .
Try restarting your Mac then try the keyboard and mouse.
If you can't restart from the Apple menu , hold the power button down until the screen turns black. Wait about ten seconds then restart.

IPad 2 won't go into sleep mode while charging

In the past couple of days my iPad 2 will not go into sleep mode while it is charging. The screen will go dim, but never go black. Any suggestions? I know I can just push the button on the top to force it into sleep mode and it will, but I've never had to do that before. I've had this iPad for over a year.

this is a software glitch, i suggest holding the home button and power button together untill you see the apple then let go, do not slide to power off, if all else fails you might have to restore the device to factory settings, still doesnt do that then its a hardware issue, and its probably going to be 250$ or more to replace

Shift to hand tool with space bar

I have Photoshop CC on a Mac running Mavericks, 16 gb memory.
While working on an image, the space bar stopped calling up the hand tool while depressed. I tried quitting Photoshop, no good. I tried restarting computer, it worked, for a little while, then went away again.
Is this a Photoshop issue, and how do I fix it? Or is it a Mac issue?

Might be a Mac issue. I have the same issue when I upgraded to Win 8.1, but others don't have this issue. Might be just my make of computer.
Still trying to find a cause also.

Space bar temporary move not working

I am running the latest PhotoshopCC 14.1.2 on my macbook pro. Recently the feature where the pressing and holding the space bar does not change my current tool ( clone or paint brush ) into the hand tool temporarily so I can move about my document. I have tried relaunching Photoshop, relaunching and trashing the settings file and completely shutting down my mac and restarting.Do have any idea if I have done something to cause this behavior and what I can do to remedy it?

I just checked out the Space Bar = Hand Tool and it works with any tool selected. But it won't move the the image unless the image is zoomed into a magnification that is larger than the screen's viewing area. Normal for that feature. I have never seen that the Hand Move Tool never comes up in any situation on PC or Mac and any OS version when pressing the Space Bar.
I am on a MAC Mini with Mavericks 10.9.4 and btw: Photoshop CC (2014.2.1)
Connect a USB external keyboard to the USB port and see if the Space Bar brings up a Hand and works correctly.
If it does, your MacBook Keyboard Space Bar is suspect or your System Preferences has a problem with Keyboard or Trackpad or both.

Using the rotate tool and hand tool at the same time in CS6

When using the rotate tool, you used to be able to use the hand tool even when the Rotate dialogue box was up. Is there a way to get that back?
I make Mandalas (http://www.behance.net/gallery/Mandala/2700497) and work from the center out. This poster is 18"x24" so once I start to get to the outer edge, I'm zoomed into the center at 6400% so I can get my crosshairs as precise as I can, then enter a number (45 degrees, 20 degrees, etc.). Clicking Preview helps, but if you're zoomed in and the object is out of view, you have to guess where it's going. In CS5, you could press down the space bar and use the Hand Tool even while the dialog box was up. Is there a fix for this? (Sorry if this doesn't make sense...it's kind of hard to explain over a forum.)

I can use the hand tool while pressing the Space bar while another tool including the Rotate tool is current. But I can not use the Hand tool in anyway if I'm in the process of using the Rotate tool by holding down the mouse button or dragging with it.
While the Rotate dialog is displayed I can not do anything outside of it in any way.
I can use the scroll wheel on the mouse to scroll the view up or down vertically while using any of the tools including the Rotate tool but not when a tool dialog is open.
I'm curious if others experience different behavior on a Windows system .

Slow pen drag at 100% when using hand tool

This is a bit of a specific problem and had hoped someone might be able to help. I have both cs2 and 3 installed using vista and it only happens on cs3.
when i zoom in to paint on a pictures, usually at 100% or more i can paint ok but when i press the space bar down to use the hand tool and go back to painting all of a sudden there is a delayed slow pen drag on the screen.
it really us a pain and i hope someone has come across this before.

I'm getting this as well. After I use the pan tool (spacebar) to move around an image, any brushstroke, eraser stroke, or lasso selection I make is delayed heavily. After I make a couple of strokes, or select something fully, it speeds back up again as though nothing had happened. It shows up regardless of whether I'm using my tablet or a mouse, and no matter what size the image is, big or small, 72 or 600 dpi.
Computer specs:
Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33ghz
2.0gb RAM
10gb of free hard drive space
It doesn't slow down in any other way, it just lags heavily for the first few seconds after I use the pan tool.

Don't see the hand tool at all (dont see the 'tool' bar)

I opened a form so that I could fill in the fields. The security says that filling of form fields allowed. However, I don't see the 'Tool' bar at all. All I have on top: File Edit View Window Help'. I have Adobe Reader X.
Where is the 'Tool' bar? I need the hand tool to fill in the forms; right?

I just bought a new computer with Windows7. Was working a great 7 year old HP with XP and my Adobe Flash crashed on Firefox and I could not restore. So....time to upgrade. I installed Adobe Flash and Reader on the new computer and I can open .;pdf docs and the floating toolbar is there but none of the functions work.
I can get the toolbar at the top with F8 but again nothing works. I have right clicked and gone into properties with no help. Also gone into compatibility and changed it from XP to 2003 as there was no 2007 selection and goofed it all up.
I just uninstalled Reader and on the installation it asked about opening in protected mode and I check to always open in unprotected mode. The only ,pdf I open are from the government. Now I see the toolbar functons work. The save function is crucial to me, I run a consulting business keeping nursing homes updated on regulations for reimbursement and survery among other things. If I cannot save .golv docs I have no business

half hour later . . .
Okay everyone . . . the people suggesting tapping the space bar are correct. When the tool sticks as the hand, tap the space bar, and that clears it.
I am not convinced that the keyboard is the problem. Rather, I think that there is something in the program that causes the hand tool to appear and then stick, and the space bar clears it. Here's why:
FYI - I said what follows, above; but I'll repeat here for clarity:
To try to rule out issues on my end, I . . .
1) re-Ghosted my PC back to a pristine image (then DL & installed all updates) to try to rule out system software issues
2) did Symantec disk check to try to rule out disk errors
3) DL Photoshop from Adobe website all over again (to try to ensure error-free file); install and reboot
4) DL Photoshop update; install and reboot
It doesn't get much cleaner than that. In addition, my keyboard (Saitek Eclipse II) is pretty new.
Here ias where the hand tool issue has appeared repeatedly for me:
I used photoshop for a couple of hours doing simple layers, cropping, and text with effects without problems. But then, I closed the program and opened it up again to do something more complex. The hand-tool issue appeared at the same point it did before I went through all this:
I had some photos that I wanted to use as fill for shapes on the masked layer below the group . . .
1. I grouped 6 layers
2. ctrl-click the masked layer below the group, then clicked on the group
3. Choose layer>layer mask> reveal selection (puts the grouped photos into the shapes in layer below)
And this is where the hand appears--not every timwe, but a few times. I was also frequently going back and forth between a You Tube viseo and Photoshop when the hand appeared.
Anyway, tapping the sapce bar seems to resolve it.

Temporary Hand Tool is not working when Firefox is open

Hi guys
Hopefully some of you can help me with a problem that has annoyed me for quite some time now..
Quite often my temporary hand tool (accessed by pressing the space bar) is not working which causes me to move objects instead of panning around my Photoshop canvas. I don't know what causes it, but when I shut down my browser (Firefox 3.6.19) everything returns to normal in Photoshop and I can pan around the canvas again using the hand tool by pressing the spacebar shortcut.
When I open reopen Firefox I can use the space bar short cut but only for a few minutes and the problem occurs again. The regular hand tool (accessed by pressing H) is working fine all the time.
This is a shortcut that I use so very much and would really like to know how to fix this issue.
I'm using Photoshop CS5 and Mac OS X 10.6.8

So Firefox or something loaded in Firefox is eating key events.
You need to start troubleshooting Firefox. The first step would be to disable add-ons in Firefox. Also let the Mozilla folks know that Firefox is causing this (I believe they've had similar bugs before).

Why Doesn't My Space Bar work?

Help!! This be a simple problem. I think I accidently touched some combination of fn, ctrl, open apple or shift. Now my space bar won't make spaces in text.

A Restart should cure your immediate problem.
