Space before a bullet list

Hello,
I would like to add a little more space (like a vertical indent) before the first line of a bullet list.
You can see the text in the screenshot below :
When I change the "Space before" value, it affects also the space in green (2).
How can I adjust the space in red (1) without affect the space in green ?!
Thank you for your kind attention.

A couple of methods come to mind:
Option 1: Use Space After on the paragraph preceeding the list.
Option 2: Use a second bulleted paragraph style for the first line of the bulleted list with space before assigned.
Duplicate the bullet paragraph style
Assign the space before attribute
Set the original bulleted paragraph style as the "next style"
Select all bulleted text, right click on the space before bulleted paragraph style and select the "Apply Style, then next style" option

  • Space before and after list

How can I manage the space before and after a list in a book without local formating each list? IE I would like all the formating to remain in each style.

For bulleted lists, I have two bullet styles. Bullets_L1 is for first level bullets, and has no paragraph spacing. I use the style Bullets_L1_First for the first bullet in the list and this has paragraph spacing before which matches the body style of the document and have Bullets_L1 set as the Next Style. This means that there is paragraph spacing above the first bullet and non for the remainder. The space at the end if the list is handled by the body style.
If I am manually typing the list, the change from Bullets_L1_First to Bullets_L1 is handled automatically. If I am formatting text that has been placed without these styles, I highlight all the paragraphs I want bulleted and right click on Bullets_L1_First in the Paragraph Styles list and select Apply Bullets_L1_First then Next Style.

  • Add space after bullet list

I would like a way to control the space AFTER a list of bullet points ends. The last item in a bullet list, in other words, before the text that follows. I can control spacing between paragraphs easily, but with bullet list, each item has a paragraph return.
I could manually add additional spacing on the last item in a bullet list. But it'd be cool if I could have that in my Styles. Maybe it's a feature request.
As a web developer, I know in HTML I can control spacing before and after a list (ul).

You need to have a special paragragh style for the list. There is a default bullet list style in Pages 4. Use it for the list.
For the Body text, use that style for the body text, set both line spacing before and after. Like you say you can't set it for the bullet list as all lines in the list will get more spacing.
Or do what I usually do I add a paragraph break before and after the bullet list.

  • Why are spaces missing at end of wrapped lines in bulleted lists

    Hi -
Acrobat 11.0.10, Word 2013, Windows 7 ... Sometimes tagged PDFs don't have spaces at the end of wrapping lines in bulleted lists, throughout the document. In text edit mode the cursor movement indicates no space exists. Selecting with text touch-up shows no space. In accessible text the last word on line runs into first word on next line.  JAWS mis-pronounces those words as if they are one word.  PAC preview also shows the words running together.
Adding a space in text edit mode works for a few minutes, but when file is saved & reopened spaces are gone, even if, immediately after adding the spaces, I select the block of LBody text with text touch-up and re-tag it and initially spaces appear to have been added.
Is starting to happen on a routine basis, different source files, different people/computers generating the PDFs, multiple computer reboots, Acrobat repair run, MS Office repair run. But not consistent ... e.g., if someone generated PDF with no spaces at end, someone else can generate from same source and spaces are present.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Thanks 'C' student, nice to know it's not just us - "misery loves company" and all that.
So far besides your reply there's deafening silence.
Come on, folks, don't any of you experts have a solution for this? Or at least an inkling of an idea what may be causing this? It's starting to happen all the time now, becoming a major problem.  We may have to start by getting Acrobat to self-tag rather than starting with the tags generated from the source programs, but that adds time and effort because Acrobat's tags for our often complex documents are laughable and have, ironically, such poor syntax.
Is there a way to get a discussion seen by more people?

  • Bullet point lists  -- with spaces beetween each bullet?

    Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knew how to set it so that I can make a list of bullet points and have it automatically double space between each bullet point but leaving the text within each point as single spaced.
    I hope this makes sense?
As far as I can tell, it only allows me to set double spacing for the entire document, not just for each bullet point.
Would be very grateful if someone could help me tweak this.

Select your list and then in the Text Inspector, Text tab, increase the "After Paragraph" spacing.

  • How to reduce space between paragraphs in bullet list

I am making a bullet list and I got it to work using CSS up to a point. The problem is that I need to put paragraph breaks between the bullet items and those paragraph breaks are huge, so my list is all spread out vertically. How do I make a break that is smaller, like a fraction of a line, but still keeps the bullet point set up?
    Here is the URL http://www.williambellomy.com/Amenities.html
    Thanks

That's your table structure for the list at the bottom, which will explain the different spacing. The first list is all in one cell.
I see you've got list items in separate cells on other pages too - it's not the most reliable way to do it. Keep your list together and use the margin attribute in your style sheets.

  • Extra space in bullet lists

    Hi,
First, I'm using RH9.  I'm having a problem with the way bulleted lists are appearing in Word (docx).
I've been trying all kinds of things to figure this out and this is my last hope!  I've tried to adjust the css file and that doesn't seem to help.  I didn't know if this is something that switching to RH10 would fix, I haven't tried that.
In RH9, I created a new blank project, added these into the First Topic and clicked the Bulleted Lists button.
When I generate a Word (docx) document, my list appears with a lot of whitespace between the top of the list and the first item.
How can I get rid of the extra whitespace?  I use these a lot in my project and don't want to have to correct these manually.
    Thanks,
    Rene.

When you create a list in Rh9, it does not automatically apply a style. See the RoboHelp Tour on my site.
In your project I simply selected the list items and applied Normal. Then the Word document matched Design View.

  • Create a list style with unique space after the last list item?

I should start by saying that I'm a web designer and therefore extremely used to using CSS for type setting to the point that I now become frustrated when going back to the print world
So here's what I'm trying to achieve:
    - I want to create a list style for bullet lists
    - I want there to be 3pt space after and space before paragraph breaks
    - I want there to be 9pt space after the entire list (or last list item)
I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this short of overriding the space after amount on the last item each time I use my style.

Pay attention to how +"styles work by example"+. Form up the list levels the way you want them and then select them to make the list style.
Personally I can't help remarking on the obtuse behavior of programmers that they manufactured all the problems on the internet and only now, more than a decade later, patch together "solutions" they struggle to implement due to the legacy of all the awful standards we never needed to have in the first place.
    Peter
btw The last list item is always a problem in typesetting. Usually you deal with it by having a particular style for that or the paragraph afte,r all of which can take multiple forms.

  • How to format bullet lists

So that bullets stand out visually, I prefer bullet lists indented, not flush with the existing paragraphs. Is there a way to modify bullet settings to automatically appear like the following?
    Appreciated.

On the Text panel, follow this screen shot for settings. You will want an after paragraph setting of 6 or 9 pt before you press return to start your bullets. That will give you a nice vertical standoff. You will want this after paragraph setting for each bullet item so that they too, have some breathing space. Tune the list indent, and text spacing from the bullet to your taste. When you have finished with the list, you may wish to set the after paragraph to 0 to resume normal sentence line space.

  • Bulleted Lists in Text Boxes?

    Hi all,
Apologies if this has been asked before - I've searched but to no avail.
Can one, in a text document, have a bulleted list in a text box? I've tried, but when the text to be bulleted in the text box is selected, the toolbar and the 'Format' drop-down menu changes and the 'Bullets On/Off' button is not available.
I've tried customising the toolbars (which I feel I shouldn't have to do anyway), but this doesn't work. I've tried to cut and paste in bulletted points from normal text (which I feel I shouldn't have to do either) but this doesn't work either.
Any suggestions, or is this a bug/feature?
    With thanks,
    Sean.

If you mean the text function in the drawing toolbar, it isn't possible.
    You should use frames.

  • Styles and "space before" quandry

I will assume that most readers are familiar with PowerPoint and are aware that for your average bulleted slide master you can change the space before or after on a per-level basis without using named styles. I want to use spacing in Keynote but am seeing annoyances.
Method 1) If I use all the same style name as in the default themes, then I end up with that asterisk after all but one style, because there is only one unmodified "Body" style and the rest are considered overrides.
Method 2) If I use different styles, I have to reach for the mouse more.
Am I missing a technique to effect this, without overrides and with (I assume) using only one style?

Thanks but that's not what I meant. I can use the spacing just fine. The issue is with the outcome of the two methods. #1 introduces overrides (and, by the way, reassigning or clearing them does not always work), and #2 requires an assignment to many paragraphs.

  • Bulleted list, type breaking to next line

I'm working in ID CS3. I set up a nested style sheet for a bulleted list. However, the type is breaking too soon--there is still space on the line for more text, but it is breaking it. When I backspace the type trying to bring it up, it will do it, but when I add a word space back in, it jumps down to the next line.
It is not doing this with other styles I have set up. I tried changing the style to Adobe Single-line composer, but that didn't help.
(p.s. I'm a long-time Quark user who has been migrating over to InDesign)

Welcome to the paragraph composer. InDesign's text composition engine is
far more advanced than XPress'. It looks at the entire paragraph.
You can turn it off, but I don't advise it. Instead, if you need words
to stay together, use a no break attribute (create a character style for
    it).
You say it's off, but there's no way it would be acting that way if it
were. Look in the paragraph panel and the paragraph styles.

  • Insert space before the capital letter in a word

    Hi,
I have a column with list of names like
    reports
    admissionPage
    topHighCost
    requestedReports
Like this there will be many rows. I want to add space before the capital letter.
This is a rdl query. Is it is possible to do in SSRS? Or we should do in Tsql? Please help me in this issue.
    Thanks in advance..
    BALUSUSRIHARSHA

Its going to be pretty complicated, in my opinion, to do this in SSRS.
For t-sql, I developed a function for you.
    CREATE FUNCTION fn_text_with_space(@STRING VARCHAR(MAX))
    RETURNS
    VARCHAR(MAX)
    AS
    BEGIN
    DECLARE @NEWSTRING VARCHAR(MAX) = '';
    declare @count int = 1;
    WHILE @COUNT <= LEN(@STRING)
    BEGIN
    IF SUBSTRING(@STRING, @COUNT, 1) COLLATE Latin1_general_CS_AS = UPPER(SUBSTRING(@STRING, @COUNT, 1)) COLLATE Latin1_general_CS_AS
    BEGIN
    SET @NEWSTRING = @NEWSTRING + ' ' + SUBSTRING(@STRING, @COUNT, 1);
    END
    ELSE
    BEGIN
    SET @NEWSTRING = @NEWSTRING + SUBSTRING(@STRING, @COUNT, 1);
    END
    SET @COUNT = @COUNT + 1;
    END
    RETURN @NEWSTRING;
    END

  • Tabbing Within a Bulleted List

Every school day I create a simple Keynote presentation for my students with the day's schedule. Along the left side of the slide is a bulleted list with the time slots of the day. The column on the right lists the activity we'll do during that time slot. My problem is that when I type in the times and then want to type in the corresponding activity, pressing the tab key simply indents the bullet item rather than move the cursor across the screen. Any suggestions on how to move the cursor across the screen with a keystroke within a bulleted list? Currently I copy and paste a blank spacer to create a slide similar to what is below.

just figured it out myself -option tab! good grief, why did they do that? the outline levels should be set by the inspector bullets tab arrows, and they should let a tab be a tab -does someone know a preference switch or something that will fix?

  • Links in bulleted lists

I have noticed that if I have a bulleted list and have links in that list, those links also include the bullet. Sample page: http://web.mac.com/unixdude/iWeb/test/test.html
Is anyone else seeing this? Is there a known workaround? I have searched this discussion group but didn't find anyone with a similar problem.
    Thanks.

I guess I see it. I mean the underline of the
hyperlink does not extend to the bullet, but I guess
it close. Is there a specific downside to this
besides cosmetic? If you want a workaround, you
could always overlay a 1% opacity shape over the
intended text and attach the hyperlink to the shape
    instead of the text.
In Safari, the bullet itself is underlined. The space between the bullet and the text is not underlined.
In addition to being a cosmetic bug, it's also a functional one: In iWeb I did not specify that the bullet itself should be underlined.
The problem is obvious if you look at the HTML, so I guess I'll just post-process the code.
Also, while inspecting the code, I see that Apple didn't use "UL"s for plain dot text bullets. I wonder why they still used OLs. Odd.
