Space Before Text in Word Document

Having generated a word document I noticed that thre was
space before all my paragraphs. Simple to fix, or so I thought.
When I checked the paragraph setting s in word there was no space
before the paragraph. Checked the paragraph above, and that did not
have space after set.

If the extra spacing is not in your Word output files, then
it must be in your RH source files.
There's either something at each of the paragraphs, or in the
HEAD section of the topic, or in your CSS style sheet assigned to
the topic. The proximity of styling info to its content is what
determines its effect.
Good luck,
Leon

  • How do I remove a space before the first word in a sentence using find and replace or GREP?

Right, so I am laying out a document in inDesign from a word document and it has a space before every first word in a sentence. It is really annoying and I need a quick way to get rid of them. I wasn't too sure how to do it with find/change but I am sure there is a way in GREP if someone can help me. I have included an image so that people can see exactly what I mean.

The ^ location works for all paragraphs.
But a note to the OP, there is a sample script called FindChangeByList that removes leading and trailing spaces as well as extra spaces after punctuation, all in one go. But if you want to continue to use a GREP find/change to remove leading space, I'd modify Joel's suggestion to ^\s+ to get those cases where the user typed multiple spaces as well.
And don't forget there are actually legitimate places for leading tabs, which both the script and this GREP will find and remove, so be careful.

  • Export text as word document

    Hi,
I have a projector which generates a report for the user at
the end of a Q&A section. Currently the report is saved as
plain text. The client would like to add some text formatting (in
the form of bold and coloured text) and would also like the file to
open in Word when double clicked.
Does anyone know of a way to save the text of a cast member
    as a Word document?
    Thanks,
    Deryck

Use or rtf or html formatting and give it a .doc extension -
    Word knows what
    to do with it.
You can get the rtf or html of a text member using
    member("whatever").rtf or
member("whatever").html - put it into a variable and save
    that with an xtra
    like fileIO, propSave or buddyFile.
I don't have the latest Director, so I don't know what the
    implications of
    Unicode will be.

  • Oversized text on Word Document Place (.docx)

When placing text from a word document (.docx) indesign only gives me three pages for a 118 long document.  Also, those pages are blank, and to access the text, I have to delete a few blank lines.  When I do this however, the text is grossly oversized.  Changing the font does not help, as even on 6 pt, the text is much larger than it should be.  Help?  I've tweaked import options, changed the format of the file (.doc, rtf) nothing seems to work.
Any help you could provide would be awesome.
    Thanks,
    -Julian Q.

I am using Adobe Indesign CS5.5 and Microsoft Word 2010, although I am not sure which version of word the document was created in.  Here is a link:

  • When I try to print from web page I get "printer not activated - error code 30", but I can copy text into Word document & printer works.

I am unable to print anything from an internet web page. I continually get "printer not activated, error code- 30" followed by "An unknown error occurred while printing". I can copy the material from the web page, place into a Word document and then print. This just started yesterday and I have no idea why. Would appreciate your advice!

  • Best way to store text or word documents

    Hello Everybody!
I am trying to decide upon the best method for storing a bunch of documents from floppies to an Oracle XE APEX database and I need advice on how to best approach this task. I can see storing these documents as a clob or blob field, but I would like to be able to search the documents. Should I store the actual word version of each document as a blob field and a text only version of the same document as a clob? Any other suggestions on how to best handle this?
I thank you in advance for your advise and assistance on this issue!
    Charles

We have an application that uses a clob definition for a text column and then use Oracle Text to search the text.
The index for Oracle text includes all of the words in the text with the exception of a standard list,i.e. articles, etc..
The text search is very quick and can be used with phrases or single words, and if the '$' is used all forms of that
word will be found. Currently we are using 9i.

  • Allow users to save form responses as text or Word document?

Is it possible to allow a respondant to save their responsesn to a .txt or .doc file upon completion of the form?
If this isn't possible in Adobe forms, does anyone know of another platform that would support this?
    Thanks!

PDF and TXT or DOC are file types and file types are processed by applications. Adobe Acrobat can save to many different formats, Reader is very restricted as to what formats it can save to. Are you familiar with how Acrobat saves a PDF to the TXT or DOC format? Well it is the entire PDF and not just the fields. To save the content of the fields you need to export the form field data through a different menu option or the use of JavaScript.
Acrobat can export to a CSV, FDF, or XFDF file type. With proper rights and JavaScript Reader could also save to the CSV, FDF, or XFDF file format. Acrobat with the use of JavaScript could create a PDF report on the fly that consist only of the field data and that file could be saved as a DOC or TXT file. Reader cannot create PDF reports.
Using a web server and scripting on the web server opens more options.

  • Microsoft Word documents--space?

I got the smallest size MacBook because I am using it for college and thought I would not need that much space for all my Word documents. I had this assumption because on a PC, my average Word documents (using Windows XP) took up about 36 KB of space. I am now writing my first essay on my new Mac and have found that after only a paragraph, this document is 80 KB! Why is this so much bigger than on Windows??

It is possible that the Mac version stores more metadata than the Windows version, so that there's more overhead. But that may not be the only reason...
Can you do something for me. Highlight the Word file in its folder, and choose File/Get Info. You will see two numbers for Size. It will say "_ KB on dis (_ bytes)"
What do yours say, and can you move the file to Windows and check the size in Properties? Here's what I'm getting at.
I have a Word file and I'm going to check the sizes now on Mac and Windows.
    On the Mac:
24 KB on disk (20,992 bytes)
In Windows XP, the same file as reported by Properties:
    Size: 20.5 KB (20,992 bytes)
Size on disk: 32.0 KB (32,768 bytes)
Again, that's the same file. Here is what is going on:
Every file has two "sizes." One is the size of the file, and the other is the space it occupies on disk. What's the difference? Suppose you have a jetliner, a child, and a fat guy. How much space do they take up? By area, the child is much smaller than the fat guy. As far as the airline is concerned, though, both take up the same space: One seat each.
Your disk is divided into blocks. If a file needs less than a block, it must take the whole block anyway. Let's apply that to the size readouts above. There are two sizes reported on Mac and Windows, "Size" and "Size on disk."
"Size" is the *actual size*, or the size of the file itself. On Mac and Windows, *this is the same*: 20,992 bytes, or around 20.5 KB (that is, 20,992/1024 bytes to a kilobyte). On the Mac, it's the second number. On Windows, it's the first set of numbers.
"Size on disk" is the size on the block size of the drive as currently formatted. On the Mac, it's 24 KB. On Windows, it's 32 KB. Why is this different? Because one hard drive is formatted one way, and the other drive was formatted the other way. It would be like how First Class has fewer seats than Coach Class on an airplane, so in First Class where the seats are bigger, a single person uses up more of the cabin. My guess is that my Mac drive was formatted with 8 KB blocks so it rounds up to 24 KB, and my Windows XP drive is formatted with 16 KB blocks so it rounds up to 32 KB.
So what I'm getting at is it's possible your file may not really be bigger on the Mac, but the drive may be formatted differently than on your PC, affecting how the file size rounds up.
Another possible answer, I don't know about Word for Windows, but on the Mac, if you have Allow Fast Saves turned on, files can really bloat up more than they should, best to turn it off.
Still, anything under a megabyte is considered tiny these days.

  • Reading word document ??

I would like to read the contents (text) from my ms word document(s), can anyone throw a light on it.
i tried to do extract using java io charecters, but i don't want junk charecters.
i'm using j++, so can anyone please guide me,
    Thank you

There are some very good tools written in 'C' language to extract plain text from word documents.
    Some reliable tools are :
    1. GNU's catdoc
    2. antiword
    3. wvviewer
I think all the above tools are freeware and also provide soure code.
You can download the source code and port it to Java.
This approach will really work and you will get a pure java solution.
I tried with antiword and catdoc and the ported Java class is able get text from MS Word documents.

  • Operating smart form with word document

    hi all
I want to print text of word document in main window of the smart form.
First tell me can I do this???
    If yes, then how??
    With Regards,
    Jayavant.

    Hello Roseanne,
As i get you right, the form doesn't display one value (you wrote document, but is dont know excatly what you mean) in the right (or at least expected) way and you can't find the value in the smartform.
So my next question is, what your meaning of physical and locical records? I can only imagin the there are 2 recordes in the database and only one is printed in the form. If im wrong please correct me.
First of all you should be able to find the spot where the data is writen to the form. Trie to narow down area where it will be printed by commanting out block by block ( conditions tab 1 = 2).
If you find the right node do the same thing on the subnode until you get the node where the error appers.
Everything that is printed in the form have to be anywhere in a node/table/loop and so on.
You can also tie to set a breakpoint in the globae area, at the beginning and serch the structres for the entry which is wrong. Maybe this will help you to find the right spot.
Good luck with fixing the form!
    Br,
    Nikolaus

  • Bug: pressing backspace to delete a word in Pages for iOS automatically deletes space before word

    Hi guys,
When I delete a word in Pages for iOS 7 character-by-character, the deletion automatically includes the space before the word, even if I don't initiate a keypress for that space. This is sporadic in that it consistently occurs in some sections of text (usually at the end of lines) and not in others, in paragraphs with custom Styles and in paragraphs with default Styles alike.
If the bug happened consistently, I could probably by habit overcome this extra deletion. However, since it does not happen in every circumstance, it's unpredictable and as such very disruptive to my workflow.
This occurs in new documents with no formatting. I've also tried Resetting All Settings, restoring the app through the Settings menu, and deleting and re-downloading the app from the App Store. It occurs both when I use my Bluetooth wireless keyboard (Logitech) and when I use the iPad Mini's OS keyboard.
I really don't want to restore my entire iPad just to fix this problem, as I think it's an app-based bug (the problem does not happen at all in any other text app).
This Pages version is 1.7.2, and I'm using iOS 7.0.2 on an iPad Mini WiFi only.
Could anyone with a similar setup try this out? I can't be the only one...right?

I am experiencing this as well. In another thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5374836) it appears someone contacted support about it and was told this is expected behavior.
For me, this will cause me to stop using Pages. It's extremely aggravating.

  • I have been sent a 'word document' in which are a series of boxes about thirty lines long to insure written text. When Pages opens the document it extends these to a whole A4 page how do I get it to retain the original layout

I have been sent a 'word document' in which are a series of boxes about thirty lines long to insert written text. When Pages opens the document it extends these to a whole A4 page how do I get it to retain the original layout

You can't change the way Pages import .doc files.
It was never written that it reproduce exactly the original one.
From my point of view, as I refuse to give a cent to M...soft, the best way to deal with documents issued by their Office suite is to use the free libreOffice.
