Space Designer Deconvolution Problem/Question

Hi everyone. When I try to deconvolve my recorded sine sweep responses in space designer the result is just a wave file minus the sine sweep. In other words the resulting IR has no reverb tail. Is this normal? Do I have to then create a Reverb tail?
Thanks
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Another way of wording the question that I originally asked;
I recorded a ten second sine sweep. when I deconvolve I end up with a ten second impulse response. Is this normal? Do I now need to shorten the IR using space designer, or is it supposed to create a reverb tail automatically?
If anyone out there knows this answer please let me know.

  • Space designer export problem

    Hi,
I'm having a strange problem with space designer in that I'm trying to add a very faint, realistic reverb on a few tracks, which sound fine when I preview them in Soundtrack, but when I export the mix out there is this massive booming reverb like it's in a cave or something, regardless of what the Space Designer is set to. The problem goes away if I disable the space designer, but It'd really like to be able to use it.
Has anyone encountered this issue before? Anyone know what might be the problem?
    Thanks

  • Space Designer deconvolution

I am having problems in creating Impulse Response files. When I click on "Deconvolution" I am prompted with
    "load coded impulse"
I load in the recorded sweep file. (which is longer in duration than the test file)
    "load test signal"
I load in the test signal.
    "save IR"
I have tried saving both to the the Soundtrack library where the other responses are stored and also to the "Documents" folder. I have also tried with and without the .SDIR extension.
I have tried having the files exactly the same length and was prompted with " recorded sweep must be equal to or longer than the test signal.
All this and no file is ever saved. Can't see in the finder and can't load in the new IR file.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!
Tried this MaCBOOK PRO (1 Gig ram) and PowerBook and iMac (power PC) with the same results.
    Thanks

I have searched through these posts and Logic forums, as Space Designer is also part of Logic Pro. I have found nothing on creating your own IR's.

  • Space Designer Deconvolution time

I have a G4 933 w/ 1 gb of ram. I have recorded a impulse & response to make my own "reverb" in Space Designer. Everything goes fine until I save tell Space Designer where to save the file. Then once i tell it where to save the IR, it gives me the beachball and just spins for like 20 hours. I'm wondering what a normal time is to make an IR...the file is only 3 seconds long, so i cant imagine it should take more than 20 hours. Any suggestions on processing times? if that's longer than normal, any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

Should be closer to 20 seconds. Try using different files, song, formats/rates/resolutions, and destinations for starters. You'll probably get it to work and by process of elimination find out what is wrong. After that try removing prefs.

  • I am having trouble using reverb of any kind; it does not sound natural, but rather "pixilated." Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I have used Silververb and Space Designer and am having the same problem...

I am using Logic Pro 9 with two MXL 990 microphones in my piano and a Rode NT1A for vocals. I have tried recording with added reverb and keeping getting not a natural reverb sound, but a rather "pixilated" one that does not sound natural. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? I have tried using Silververb and Space Designer, and both result in the same problems. Thank you!

This is asking for the impossible! It does not sound natural because maybe it isn't and in judging so whats your reference anyway. If you are in dire need of some natural sounding room you can go and record it yourself. But even then, the chances that it sounds like you imagined it, are very slim.
There are very decent sounding reverberation plugins, based on artificial reverb generators or convolution-style, the last one is said to sound more 'natural' then the first one. Be it as it maybe, it really is like cooking food. You got all the ingredients for this delicious taste at hand and believe it or not to reach a satisfying result this is not enough, because if you do not mix the ingredients in the right proportion you will end up with a different dish you thought you'll get. This is exactly the same when one would mix audio, I dare say.
So treat yourself to some good ingredients and the rest is up to you, namely: taste and experience!
And looking at some of my past music productions I always find the same plugins for the 'ambient' task:
Altiverb by Audio Ease when I have acoustic ensembles (classical music mostly), the Sony Oxford Reverb in studio productions, Bricasti when I have to deal with drums and MMultiBandReverb from MeldaProduction for all-round stuff. Thats the base I start from, after that I can end up with dozen Reverb plugins which basically all are doing the same thing but just in a tiny different way.

  • Space Designer Save Setting Problems

    Space Designer Save Setting Problems
On the right side of the space designer you have "dry" and "rev" settings.
On reopening the plug-in the dry setting switches back to zero, although I saved it at a different setting...
    Everytime, every project...

Does it do this on audio/software instrument channels and aux channels?
In general, when you load SD on an aux channel, Logic assumes it's going to be an FX return and so "helps you out" by setting the dry level to zero for you...
On other channel types it should work as expected...

  • Problems with the Space designer

Forgive my poor English on this, i don't really know how to explain this but:
When i record a guitarpart with a delay made in the space designer, i hear 'cracks' in my headphones and on my monitors (looks like the sound when a recording is clipping but the input signal is low enough)
When i play back the recorded part, or when i bounce it, i don't hear a thing.
It's pretty annoying when your recording, because sometimes i start playing off-tempo because i get destracted to much by the cracks.
Is there any solution to it, or is my computer just too slow?
I'm running Logic Studio on a Macbook,1.83 Ghz, 2 gig ram, 250 gig hd, 5400 rpm.
Should i try recording on my external 7200 rpm drive instead?

What do you use for the arped delay? I can imagine if this is a stereo delay and the sound comes back at periods at the same time (because it is in tempo) it will crack at certain points some how (volume doubling). Maybe try to switch the phase on the delay one channel (if stereo). Still remains odd it doesn't crackle when you play it back though...

  • Space Designer questions??

Can Space Designer use 32 bit wav IR's?
Where should downloaded IR's go(what folder)?
Any suggestion on free IR's? I've found echochamber site was wondering if there were others.

Pretty sure that Space Designer wav's must be in 16-bit.

  • Space designer legacy settings problem

for some unknown reason my space designer plug in wont show my legacy settings in the drop down menu..i know they exist on the system because i can see them in finder, but space designer doesnt show them,
anyone know how to fix this?
    thank you

Good to see i am not alone on this which i stumble upon a few months ago, where i just took a break on L.P. now I'm back at it.
So if the Legacy Space-Designer doesn't show up in L.P.8, should i take the folder from L.P.7 that says Space Designer settings, and the impulse responses,
and extract them onto L.P.8 where it says Space-Designer or should i just take the folder of S/P of L.P. 7 and dump them into the directory, or in the root directory on the main H.D.
Forgive for asking about this as Bee Jay tried explaining but i didn't quite get it, even though i kinda understand what he saying i guess I'm slow on this.
    Thanks in advance Noqplease.

  • Space designer causing cpu spike overload

Hope you guys can help with this, it's beginning to annoy me. I'm currently unable to use space designer reliably. I had this problem in Logic 8 and it's still happening in 9. I have one instance of SD in my current project and it's causing cpu spikes that are giving me errors. The funny thing is that the error happens just after a region that is being sent to the reverb has ended. the cpu meter then gradually rises until the error stops playback. If I turn SD off i don't get these problems or if I disable SD via automation when it's not needed it seems ok also. What the **** is this about? The thing is I really like the sound of SD and miss it when I have to use different reverbs. Anyone else having these issues? I read on another thread that setting all your inputs to "no input" helps but for me it doesn't. What else can I try?
    cheers
    p

    Thanks for your input.
Just to clarify, I am getting the spike once the audio data stops sending through the SD plugin (whilst the song is still playing). So, for example I may send a 10 second bit of audio through the plug - this works fine. Then once the audio stops sending and the reverb trail finishes....I then get the CPU going mad - and yet there is complete silence within the song - there is nothing else playing!
This has got to be a bug or conflict of some kind - my computer spec is massive and should be able to cope with a stereo bit of audio through one plugin! (Hope this makes sense.)
There have been a couple of posts similar but no answers as yet...
Wondering whether it is a conflict with UAD plugins or something which limits the reproduction of this bug...I have noticed that if I remove all UAD plugins from the channel strip in question, the error tends not to reappear - but the issue is unique to the SD plugin.

  • Space designer causes crash - any suggestions??

    Hello people
I just started running logic 8 on a new imac and I have a big problem with space designer.
Everything will be going sweet (well kinda). I open SD and things are still fine, but if I try to open any preset then it crashes. Complete freeze, have to force quite and try again...
This also stops me from opening any of my old Logic 7 songs as I use SD on most tracks, so I guess that is what is causing it to hang...
    Any suggestions?
I have tried trashing the prefs, but no joy still.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Justin

Now tried the same thing on iPad and iPad Mini. Didn't work and not even my documents show on iPad. Very frustrating as can't use Pages at all. Apple need to sort this.

  • Space Designer / Surround / & Pops

Could someone please check this out?
    1. Open a Logic template... anyone will do (even your own customized autoload etc.)
    2. Insert any audio file in the arrange, into an Audio object, preferably start the file on bar 2 (so that there is some space at the beginning with no sound).
    3. Set the track to Surround Output
    4. Add a Space Designer (with any reverb setting) to Bus 1 (or any bus) and set this to Surround out as well.
    5. Add a send on the track you added with the audio file to send to the bus with Space Designer.
    6. Start playback from Bar 1, and let the audio file start. First play should sound ok.
    7. Hit the Enter key (on the keypad-left) to restart playback from bar one.
At this point, is anyone else getting a few Pops??? before the audio file starts????
-Turning OFF Latency Compensation will get rid of the problem.
-Switching the tracks back to Stereo out or mono will stop the pops.
-Deleting the Space Designer Plugin instance will also stop the pops.
    What's going on???
    G5 dual 1.8GHz 2.5gig Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Yep, same bug here…
A 5.1 impulse on an aux, give me about 2 seconds delay…
Same song opened with 9.0.2 aren't affected

  • Space Designer Presets and Impulses... Gone?!

    I'm stymied...
Been wanting to audition some Space Designer reverbs, but for some reason all of the presets were gone from the settings menu. I don't remember what I did exactly, but I found them and moved them into the SD settings folder somewhere on my system. And now I have all of my presets back. But...
Every time I load one of the presets, Logic asks me where the .sdir file is for it.
This never used to be a problem. Why it's different today is beyond me. But anyway...
Can someone please tell me where .sdir files are supposed to be located? And also, just so I'm sure everything is where it should be, where should the SD preset settings live?
    -=iS=-

    Works perfectly.
For some reason my impulse responses and settings were in two places:
    iSchwartz HD/Library/Logic/Impulse Responses
    ...and...
    ~/Library/Applications Support/Logic/Impulse Responses
    Weird...
    Anyway, thanks again.

  • Space designer help

space designer always sounds ****** once ive bounced out of logic. for one, the reverb is a ton stronger on the final product, and for another, the quality has gone down the toilet- really it sounds awful until i turn it down enough so that its out of the way, but i need it blaring for backups vocals on an r&b song. i think this might have something to do with the dithering but im not sure. i usually set it to pow-r 2. for some reason i dont have this problem when i use the other reverbs, but they dont sound as good in logic. does anyone else have this problem? does anyone know of a way to get better results out of space designer?

i suspect david is right - that it is a summing/phase issue. some of those IRs are very out of phase without giving much stereo width (strange) yet they don't sound too different when you put a dirmixer plug-in on and narrow the stereo field (even stranger).
don't limit yourself to the logic presets. check out the noisevault IRs which you can use with SD. some of these are simply fantastic. here's the link to the lexicon reverbs:
    http://noisevault.com/nv/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=29&func=selectca t&cat=7
the PCM91 reverbs are fan-tastic. don't forget to chain reverbs - ie put your source into a studio (logics wooden studio is great) or into a short length plate (such as the EMT250 plates), and then feed that to a deeper reverb for warmth.
your issues sound like a problem you are having elsewhere in your system rather than artistic use of the IR's. i would take david r's advice and check if you are having phase problems somewhere in your outboard gear - or if you have fed something somewhere within logic you shouldn't have.
incidentally - you can check for phase problems by using the correlation meter or the ganiometer.

  • Design View - problems, but does it matter?

Another design view question - I've looked through other
posts but not seen anything that's similar.
(Firstly, can't give a URL as I'm sensibly(?) doing a site
    redesign offline...)
I've got a page that consists of three columns - each floated
left, each with nested divs (the nested divs are fixed width).
In design view, everything was fine with this structure - as
was preview in browser, and the page validates with DWCS3's
checker. But adding content to the first of the columns (within a
nested div) made the next two columns drop below the first in
design view - although DWCS3 validation and previewing is still
    fine.
Through judicious deleting etc., I've found that it was a
floated element in a nested div within the first column, that
caused the subsequent elements to drop below the first column.
So my main question is - should I be worried by the design
view problems, or is It just an inconvenience?
(And if there's any other obvious problems I'm inviting by
structuring the page this way, please feel free to (gently) point
    it out...!).
    Thanks, Matt.

Yes. I'd say more, but I cannot see your page.
