Space designer pop and clicks

Hi guys,
I have two work stations in my studio. on my secondary wrokstation, I run a 1.8 dual powermac with the latest Logic 7.2. Ever since I upgraded to OSX 10.4.10 I'm having problems with the space designer. it starts creating clicks, pops and distortions. I know it's the space designer, because when I remove it, everythings fine again.
any idea what's wrong? help is much appreciated! thanks

Have you tried increasing the audio buffer size by one notch to see if that fixes it?

  • No audio, just pops and clicks with QT 7.2 pro

I'm posing this question having read every sound related post on this forum. Forgive me in advance if this has been covered and I've missed the answer somehow!
Since the upgrade, all I hear is pops and clicks, no other audio on my nearfield monitors or headphones through my MOTU 896HD interface. QT MPEG-1 Files play fine, itunes works great, Digital Performer files sound wonderful, wmv files sound good. I just can't get sound from any other QT source!! Can't hear anything from QT website (xcpt click's and pops). If I turn off my interface, I can hear the audio through my G5 PPC tower, but not through the speakers. Before the upgrade everything was fine. So QT Kirk, Ricktoronto, Baby Boomer, you guys are very smart and have helped many. Please add me to your legion of fans!
    Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for the link. Of course I've been to this site on many occassions but this time I started a discussion thread about this problem.I don't get a lot of support thru MOTU but I'm a little desparate. Also when I went back to audio-midi I noticed under Audio devices... System settings :
Default input: Motu 896HD (other option: Built-in audio),
    Default Output :MOTU 896HD,
System Output: Motu 896HD ( both with same other option as input),
    Properties For: MOTU 896HD.
Here's the kicker, when I change "Properties For" to Built-in Audio my choices for format change back to 8ch-16 bit. But I still can't hear the audio from QT!
    Argh!!!
I hope I'm not boring everyone to tears with my tales of woe but I DO appreciate the input, Thanks QT Kirk!

  • Pops and Clicks and Delays with X-Fi Fatal1ty Platinum in Windows 7 32bit

Hi, I own an x-fi fatalty platinum sound card and I have installed the beta driver for Windows 7 32bit.
When doing things in the OS, i get occasional pops and clicks. I know exactly what it comes from, it happens when there are multiple sounds being played simultaneously. If I join a ventrilo server, the little intro sound it makes pops and clicks. If I hold down my talk key, sometimes it will pop and then play the little talk sound, sometimes it won't play the sound at all... and the same is true when I let go of my talk key.
Virtually everything I do in the OS has this weird pop and click sound associated with it. Playing music, however, doesn't have that problem because an MP3 is a continous stream of audio and counts as a single sound. It's when there are multiple sounds overlapping does it pop/click or fail to produce the sound at all or in its entirety. It's like the x-fi is delayed and isn't able to play the sound fast enough which therefore produces a pop and clicking sound at the beginning of sounds. This is why I purchased an x-fi sound card becaus it eliminated this problem from my onboard sound. Now it's BACK in Windows 7.
Also, when I play UT2004, by default there's an option called "Use System Driver" checked in the sound options. This makes everything in the game have a slight 0.25 second delay, but it's enough to make it noticeable and annoy me. If I disable "Use System Driver", it fixes the delay but the pops and clicks come back!? I can't win one way or the other.
Windows XP does not have this problem. I have tried both the stable x-fi driver and the beta driver. I have tried updating my OpenAL software. I'm not sure what to do beyond reinstall Windows 7 and try again... which I really do not look forward to doing.
If anyone could assist me, or take note of this issue so it could be fixed in later drivers, it would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    -Neil

    Hello?

  • .MOVz popping and clicking

I have recently had a client complaining of the audio 'popping and clicking' in CS3 when she is using DV .MOV files I have supplied.
She is using CS3 on a PC but I have checked the MOVz on my Mac in CS3 and I have noticed some similar problems.
The files are from a Panasonic HVX200 recorded in DV mode to P2 cards.  The files were downloaded via "Log and Transfer' in Final Cut Pro and then handed to the client.
We have been using this process for a while without issue but now we have these audio problems.
Anyone know what the incompatibilty is?
    Thanks.

  • Final Cut X - pops and clicks on export

I am using Final Cut X on a Mac 10.8.5 -- and using Compressor with custom Vimeo settings to output a 30 minute film with 48k soundtrack.
I can not get a clean final file -- it has random loud crackles, pops and clicks. I have turned all other programs off when rendering, and also tried rendering the sound track separately in the hope that then I could reassemble the parts after compressor. That worked when the soundtrack was rendered as AAC, but as AIFF it didn't work, worse cracks and pops. Thoughts? I am going crazy trying to get a clean version of this film! Thanks.

Its a simple project , all the file are in my desktop , not using hard drives.
    Its abou 55 seconds at 24fps, 1920x1280.

  • Airport Express Pops and Clicks

I bought an airport express about a month ago with the goal of adding Airplay support to our living room.  So far it's worked well except that it pops and clicks (sometimes very loudly) every 20 minutes or so.  I've read that electrical interference may be the cause but 4 different surge protectors and line conditioners have done nothing to fix the problem.
I'm not using iTunes.   Only streaming from iphones and an ipad.
Are there any additinal steps I can take before returining the unit?

If it also pops and clicks when you plug in the headphones, that points to a defective AirPort Express that will need to be replaced.
If you do not hear the pops and clicks on the headphones, then you know the AirPort Express is good and the problem is likely somewhere between the AirPort Express, amp and speakers.
Sometimes a compressor on a refrigerator or air conditioner will send spikes though the AC lines that are picked up in the amp, no matter what kind of surge supressor you have. I have had this problem, and had to replace the separate amp I was using.

  • FCE 4 Audio Popping and Clicking -

When using the voice over tool in Final Cut Express 4, I hear popping and clicking upon playback. My microphone goes through a Presonus Firebox. I do not hear the popping and clicking when I record through GarageBand, but this is after I make sure the file is saved in .aif. I do not believe this is a PreSonus issue, rather some wacky setting in FCE. I also read elsewhere this may be due to the fact that I may have had too many open audio tracks, but I have subsequently deleted all other audio tracks. Is this a bit rate issue? I have the Firebox set at 48,000 and the rate is the same in FCE. Tech support does not know how to solve the issue. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Figured it out. It had to do with a compatibility issue between the G5 and the Presonus Firebox. We installed FCE and connected the Firebox to a MacBook Pro and heard no popping in the audio track. We then purchased the M-Audio Fast Track Pro and recorded audio using the voiceover tool and heard no popping or clicking.

  • Pops and clicks with Logic

First off i am relatively new with Logic Pro and i believe that this may be a set up issue of my own fault and not a problem with logic. Also i am running on a brand new Mac Pro with 2 gig ram, the 2.6 processor, and 2 harddrives, a 250 gb for OS, Logic, itunes music, and "my stuff", and 500 gb for audio only. I am running on a brand new PreSonus Firestudio as well. Anyway when i record i get pops and clicks that sound like small explosions in my monitors. I have switched every cable that could possibly be switched and ruled that out. Also i have posted a similar message on presonus.com to see if it is firestudio related, but just incase anyone here has heard of problems like this let me know. I think it might be buffer size related or something like that. Like i said I am relatively new and any help would be great.
PS sometimes it pops when im not recording ex: listening to itunes.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

When running logic it's recommended to shut off things like your airport connection (if you have one), and shut down all other apps. You want to provide as much bandwidth for system audio as possible.
I even go so far as to disable spotlight indexing (check out spotless if you want an easy way to do it) to make sure as little unwanted disk activity is occuring as possible. Dashboard widgets can also be a pain. Disable dashboard too while you're at it.
I have a similar setup, mind you with a different audio interface, and I can run the system reliably down to the lowest buffer size of 32 samples.
That being said, there are a few other questions you will want to ask yourself. Are the clicks and pops in the recorded audio? And are they consistently at the exact same places in the file on playback? Check them individually in the sample editor. Because then you may very well have a different problem altogether.
Also don't hesitate to see what kind of information PreSonus can give you. If the item is brand new then don't hesitate to call on them for help, all other things being equal.
When you use virtual instruments, do the same pops an clicks appear?
Did you use the latest drivers? Are you fully up to date with all your updates, including the Universal Binary update for logic? (I know it probably sounds repetitive but it's worth a shot right?)
I could go on and on but fish around and see what you can find. Then come back. Someone will be here.

  • Popping and clicking in audio - PE7

When I use a Canon XL1 (the first generation of the XL series) and capture the video into PE7 via firewire there is all kinds of pops & clicks in the audio. I have tried it on different computers and still get the same thing. It doesn't matter if I use the same camera to play back the recorded tape, or from a stand-alone DV deck, or even a different camera- it's still there. It even happens if I record live video right into PE7 with this Canon camera.
You can hear a sample of what it sounds like if you watch my video at this link. This is a pretty good example of what it sounds like.
It normally doesn't happen right away on the timeline. It sometimes fades in and out too. Someone told me that maybe the audio setting in PE7 might be defaulting to 48,000 and the setting on my firewire card in the computer might be defaulting to 44,100 (or visa-versa)? I couldn't find anyway to change that on my computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The audio is fine when I connect the camera up to monitor. It isn't the lav mic that I was using as I have used that lav mic a dozedn times before and since then. The only time it happens is when I capture video from that camera via firewire into PE7. The lav mic is a Sony 55 head which has a balanced XLR cable plugged directly into the Canon; no adaptors inline which would take the audio signal down to unbalanced. Like I said, there no problems with the mic as use that mic all of the time. Plus, it'll do the same thing even if I use the on board camera mic, and capture that audio via firewire.
If you listen right when the woman starts speaking on the video you can CLEARLY hear the popping and clicking in the audio. Like I said in the earlier post, it comes and goes, which is why you don't hear it throughout the entire video. The way I have gotten around the problem is by running the audio/video through an analog to digital (firewire) convertor and then record it into PE7. No problems in the audio then because I am polaying it back analog. That is one step I would like to bypass as it degrades the video and audio signal.
I believe it might be a hardware/software setting someplace in PE7. Something isn't syncing up.

  • Audioquest Dragonfly Pops and Clicks

I have an Audioquest Dragon fly which plays without issues on my Windows 8.1 machine.  If I use it on my Windows 7 Pro machine, there are loud pops and clicks.
I called my local Audioquest dealer and I was told that the pops and clicks were an issue in the original release on Windows 8 too, but it was fixed.  I am having what sounds like the same issue Windows 8 users were having, so is it possibly the same
    issue?
The only lead I was given is that it's related to the audio driver.  I've made sure my drivers are up-to-date.

    Hi,
What media player are you using?
Try changing to a different Output Mode When changing the output mode, you might also have to change the Output Mode Settings to make sure the Dragonfly is selected,  For different hardware requires different communication methods to obtain the best
    possible audio quality and performance.
You can read more here about the audio output modes:

  • Annoying popping and clicking with Realtek devices/drivers

anybody out there with an HP pavilion notebook with the realtek audio hardware and software? I just bought this system on Aug 21 2008 and have uninstalled and reinstalled the most up-to-date drivers, etc and sporadically yet continuously get popping and clicking sounds whenever i play movies or music files in itunes or quicktime. i'm using Windows Vista Home Premium OS and ensured everything is up-to-date with Microsoft products and no luck. Very frustrated!!

I just updated to 8.0.2.20 and now everything I plays skips and sounds like an old scratched LP record (remember those???).
This is not related to equalizer settings or hardware settings or anything else... you have people who have been using iTunes just fine until version 8 then all of a sudden massive problems... there are dozens and dozens of posts about this problem now. It has nothing to do with any settings, as people have been fine with prior versions, the common thread is that they've all upgraded to version 8.
And you shouldn't have to stop using equalization or change anything you had before either.
This is a BUG in VERSION 8. It seems that this version is full of bugs from what I have read across the internet-- has Apple started finally releasing crappy software? (It is inevitable). Maybe this is from outsourcing all the coding to countries where English is not the native language-- who knows.
In any event, before I updated (from an earlier version of 8) I noticed Itunes stopped playing any sound at all. After I updated it gave me the error message telling me I had to delete/re-install quicktime. I did and now the clicking and popping. I re-installed/repaired directly from the website. Still nothing.
My music plays perfectly from any other application. This is an iTunes BUG in VERSION 8.
Also, as others have noticed new oddities in the way itunes behaves in version 8. Some have tremendous CPU usage or problems with internet. My hard drive rattles and buzzes whenever I start iTunes!!!! That scares the h*ll out of me! No other app does this and I can load all my music with any other app just fine-- no buzzing of the hard drive.
I'm running a new machine with max'd RAM, 2 TB of drives hooked into a Windows Home Server with 9TB of music and video. I'll try rebuilding the library... but darn it how come no other problems with any other app? Media Monkey plays everything fine, for exmaple. Gotta be iTunes.

  • Audio Filters: Pop and Click Removal???

Is there a pop and click removal available in Final Cut Express? My audio has some pops and clicks due to a little audio distortion and I need to get rid of it. Can anyone help?

I don't know if there is any advantage one way or the other but I'm so use to doing it this way in Pro Tools that it's just natural for me. Make sure the waveform is displayed in the time line and zoom in on the offending click/pop and using the pen tool place an anchor on either side of the noise on the level line then pull the line down enough to remove or reduce the noise. If pulling the noise out makes an unnatural quiet spot you can copy a piece of ambiance from another spot, paste it on another audio track and fade in / fade out to fill the hole.

  • Speakers popping and clicking (Audigy 2 Platinum Ca

Trying to understand why my speakers start popping and clicking whenever I watch YouTube videos. I have to reload the drivers in order to it get it stop. This gets old. Is there a permanent fix out there? mPlease advise. Thanks.

    Theres 3 possible cause
    MUSIC
-The music bit rate you are listening is simply too hissing and popping to listen to. It means, music below 28kBPS. For example, battle field atillery strike simple hiss to much, same as doom 3 ^_* . Try listening it further...notice diffrence?
    Speaker
-Your speaker is malfunction or simple too good to listen hissing sound in problematic musics. It is because your speaker problem ^!^
Lastly, sound card is not the issue of hissing and popping..... I SUGGEST YOU LOOK CLOSER TO YOUR SPEAKER!

  • Loopback Pops and Clicks

Everytime I loop in loopback, I get pops and clicks. My i/o buffer is open as large as it will go to no avail. I'm running a 27in macbook pro from 2010 with 4g ram..10.6.8. Any ideas?

    Hi violinviola
You should probably know that loop is not an exact science
The track  need to be well balanced in terms of bars and volumes start and end because otherwise the clicks and pops appear.
The track is only battery or a complete theme?
    You can try 2 ways:
    simpler:
put a fade in and fade out very fast in order to mitigate or eliminate these noises
    or:
    try new loop points
these results are better if the band is constant (eg battery
Hope I have helped and good luck
    Best regards

  • Pops and clicks in audio from dock output

When listening to my 8GB Nano via the headphone jack, the sound is perfect and free of problems. But when I connect to a dock device such as a Bose Sounddock or Tivoli iSongbook (both of which use the audio pass-through of the dock) I hear periodic pops and clicks, almost like a bad FM radio. The noises are random and not repeatable - sometimes several minutes will pass without any noises and then there will be 3 of them in a brief period. They are more noticeable on quieter material, not surprisingly.
The exact same music files played on my old 3G iPod (15GB) through the same dock devices exhibit no unwanted noises at all.
The only functional difference between these 2 iPods is that the old one will charge in the docks (it is the old Firewire-charging flavor) while of course the new Nano chromatic will not as it supports only USB charging. I understand this, but don't see why that should affect the audio.
Anyone else notice this? Should I drop by my local Apple Store to see what they say??

That's odd to be sure. What you should have seen if you clicked the link to the Wish Form/Bug Reporting Form is that a web page opens that allows you to choose whether you are reporting a bug or asking for a feature. I don't belive you receive any E-Mail message notification. This makes me wonder exactly what link you clicked.
