I must have gotten a corrupted sector on my disk drive I place my Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 CD in the drive and it asked to install or repair or uninstall. I clicked repair and after a minute it asked for disk 1. I could not find a disk one and my case only has space for one disk. What should I do?
Jim Hamilton.PSE6 is a very old program (more than 6 years old) so what exactly are you trying to do? Have you got PSE6 already on your machine? If so, to uninstall it, all you need to do is to go to the Windows Control Panel and uninstall it under Add/Remove programs icon.
If you are trying to install it again on top of what is already installed then the best way is to uninstall it from the machine before installing again after rebooting. Also, if the disk happens to be damaged then try copying the contents from the disk to a temporary folder on your machine and then try installing from that temporary folder by clicking on the setup.exe file.

I rented a short film on iTunes but didn't have enough space for the HD version I paid for. I was unable to download it in OR convert it to SD for whatever reason and cannot seem to download my purchase on my desktop iTunes. Am I missing something?
When you purchase an HD movie or show, in most cases the SD copy can be downloaded from your purchases area in iTunes. On the main iTunes Store page, go to Purchases under the Quick Links and then select Movies or TV shows as appropraite. Click the "Not On This Computer" button. Uncheck the "Download HD when available" box and you should then see the SD copies of the movies/shows and be able to download them.
Note that with digital copies from a Blu-Ray or DVD, if it comes with an HD copy, you normally cannot get the SD copy as well and have to purchase it separately if you want it.

Your Mac needs adequate hard drive space to operate normally. How full can a drive be before it's too full? There is no hard and fast rule that says “X” amount or “%” of free drive space is needed. A low amount of RAM requires more drive space for Virtual Memory’s swap files. As a general rule, your available space should be 5GB as an absolute minimum as it generally requires that much free space to perform an Archive and Install of Mac OS X and still preserve some free space for VM swap files. What size HD do you have?

hey iphone an iphone 3g and i only have about 13 apps and the yellow bar on itunes for my phone is way to big i deleted all my photos all my music every thing i ryed restoring ans all it still takes up space for sum reason ?? please someone help me
If Other (the yellow bar) is too big something is corrupted. The only solution (that I know of) is to restore from your most recent backup using iTunes (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).

Firstly, I can't open iPhoto on my macbook as of a few days and could it have anything to do with a problem I have updating my iPhone's software as I've downloaded extra iCloud storage but I still can't get the iPhone to recognise the space for software
No. With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

Outlook 2011 for Mac keeps asking me for password
I had been using Windows Live Mail (pop 3) for years until last week; rarely, if ever had any problems downloading my mail.
I just bought a Mac computer and am using Outlook 2011 for Mac; my operating system is Maverick (if that means anything to anyone).
The BT tech guys suggested I set up my mail accounts as IMAP so that all mail read on the server syncs etc. with my Outlook. It all sounded great. However, ever since I installed Outlook for Mail it asks me for my password numerous times during the day (for each of my 5 email accounts)....it usually does this when the computer has been in sleep mode, i.e., when Outlook tries to download mail from the server.
Something else to mention is that whilst the BT tech guys set up my IMAP accounts with:
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
The BT Mail department (today) told me to revert back to 110 (outgoing) and 25 (incoming) and to call the incoming and outgoing mail.btinternet.com instead of the smtp.........(I forget the rest of it now) that the tech guys set it up as.
I've since reverted the incoming and outgoing to mail.btinternet.com but haven't changed the numbers to 110 and 25 because the BT Mail guy said "if you are able to send/receive using the 993 and 465...just leave them. And I *am* able to send/receive. The problem is more the password prompt and the message "server not recognised" or whatever it says....I can't recall the exact words.
I phoned Apple and they of course say it is an Outlook problem; not an Apple one, though they did help me delete the mail settings in their keychain thingie so that I could put in my passwords again (all passwords are correct by the way).
Apple did ask, however if my internet service provider are happy for me to have mail set up as IMAP; she epxlained that it really isn'y *my* choice; it's the server people's choice.
My questions are therefore: 1) who/what is my server? Is it BT? My email addresses are all btinternet.com and I'm also using BT Broadband for both home and my business/office.
I just don't understand why Outlook keeps prompting me for password so my second question is 2) does anyone know why I am being prompted for my password as often as I am? Does this have to do with IMAP settings? with Outlook? or with my Server? or possibly all of the above? and how does one identify the real issue?

I think you are right in that BT seem to be having unique server/login issues...at least this is what I've read elsewhere too.
Iroonically, this AM I opened my new Mac and have *not* been asked for passwords so perhaps the changes I made in the settings yesterday (keychain reset in Mac) and also changing it from smtp.....to mail.btinternet.com solved the issue...who knows? All I know is this last week I've nearly lost the will to live on more than one occasion, from the transition from PC Windows Live Mail to Outlook for Mac. -
Good evening. When I try to rename a master file or export a master file, Aperature 3 only recognizes the first 9 spaces for raw .NEF files, even though it easily uses twice that many spaces for version names. I have a system in place that works really well for me, wherein by changing the file name I can recognize what's important to me just by glancing at the file name, no matter what system it is in, I do not have to open or mouse over anything to know what the file is. My files also arrange themselves in order no matter what file system they are in. Can someone please tell me if there is a setting, or something I am doing wrong, that prevents me from using a longer Master file name. I can't be the only person who would like to have his Master File names correspond to the name that appears in the Aperature library, and would like to use at least 16 spaces (numbers, letters, etc.)

As you suggested, I am attaching several screen shots. In the first one you can see how I set up my preset. I used "Custom Name" and "Counter" with a dot between the two drag ins, followed by "D90". I also have a dot to seperate the 8 digits in the Custom Name and make it easier to read.
I then click "OK" which takes us to the second screen shot. Here you can see that in the Example File Name everything looks perfect, and you can see I have clicked on "Apply to Master Files".
In the third screen shot you can see that the version in my library did in fact change correctly. With the "mouse over" pop up screen you can see, however, that the Master File name was changed to "1933.1017.NEF". It failed to carry the "12D90" and if I go to where my masters are stored that is exactly what the name was changed to.
In the fourth screen shot I attempt to export the master. You can see how my "Version Name" is set up.
And finally on the 5th screen shot you see in the File Name Example the name "1933.1017.NEF" once again, which when I export the master is exactly how the name will appear. Since I will export more than one file at a time , a (1) and a (2) etc., will appear at the end of the names because all the files are being given the same "1933.1017.NEF" name.
I hope this reply does a better job of clarifying my problem. I am anxious to see if this is something I simply misunderstood, or if I am simply doing something wrong.

Display default Group space for users in a Role upon login
Is it possible to configure the role/group space so that the users in that role will see the group space as default page after logging into webcenter.
Scenario:
Group Space : G_SPACE1
Role: W_ROLE1
Uers with W_ROLE1: user1, user2, etc
Requirement:
Whenever users with role W_ROLE1 login to webcenter(http://..../webcenter ),
they should see the group space G_SPACE1.
Note: I am aware that we can access the group space directly with url as http://...../webcenter/spaces/G_SPACE1.

Not as far as I know. This is something I had a requirement to do but couldn't find a way.
Although PS3 added support to configure the landing page/space for a user, it wasn't a very useful addition in my opinion. It only allows the admin to hard-code a single Space as the default for all users and doesn't work with ELs either. -

I am trying to index using the following command, this is when I got the error:

User_sdo_geom_metadata has some metadata inserted with lat/long dimensions. My data is not in lat/long, so I updated this but still get the same error message.
Is it possible to use locator with data that's not in lat/long format?

Why do we allocate space for a new object???
When we create a new object, we instantiate it. Why do we do this. I read that we are allocating space for it. What is allocating space and why is it necessary??
Okay, say you have an object called Stick, which descibes a physical stick's characteristics:

Pretty basic, right? Okay, looking at this code, you might say "well this is a class, not an object because it describes something, it's not an actual instance of the class". Right. So what people do is they instantiate things like Stick() into a static class (such as main) like so:

Stick s2 = new Stick(4); //calls the parameterized constructor

The unparameterized constructor line creates an instance (which is the same thing as an object) of class Stick using no parameters. The parameterized does the same, only it uses a length of 4 instead of the default 1 that the other constructor uses. The two instances s1 and s2 use the same class template, and can call the same methods, such as getLength(), but they contain different information in their data fields, for example "length" in class Stick. And that's how constructors work, and why they're useful. They're all about deriving a useful instance from either limited or abundant information. -
Time Machine deleted my first backup to make space for a new one, is there anyway to recover it?!?!
So I had all my stuff backed up to December 23 on an external hard drive with Time Machine, then I deleted it all so that the next automatic backup didn't have any of these older files. Today Time Machine deleted my original backup to make space for a new one and so I lost Decemer 23, now I am screwed..HELP?? I accidently let it delete or something, I don't really know, I know this was just a series of mistakes and now I'm desparate ):

It's a normal behavior that Time Machine is deleting oldest backups when drive is filling up. -
Space for envir. variables in WinNT4

when installing WebGain Studio (WL Server, Visual Cafe, ..), my CLASSPATH variable shown in
control panel->system->environment looks OK, but it is not set really. When typing "set" from
command prompt, I can see CLASSPATH=c . The problem is probably that the length of this
variable is too long. When I shorten the variable manually a bit, it's OK and even set
command shows it.
Can anybody help how to enlarge the space for the env. variable ??

JosefYes, the kernel stack is small. How small varies with the kernel version. For something this size, you should use kmem_alloc rather than putting it on the stack.
There are ways to reboot with a bigger stack size; but why bother with that when kmem_alloc is so easy to use, doesn't require every process's kernel stack to be bigger, and even is nice enough to allow the process to sleep if memory is low?
A related bit of advice: avoid recursion in the kernel.
