Space isn't freed from HD

I want to get rid of filevault from my home folder, to do this I need to free up the disk space equal to the size of my home folder, so I decided to move files from my main account to Macintosh HD & then to another account which hasn't filevault activated. When I tried to move my files from home folder to Macintosh HD I experienced that the exact size isn't freed from my home folder when I moved them out into the Macintosh HD. I know that I need to log out & log in agin while I'm connected to power adapter to reclaim my disk space. But still I can't regain my exact disk space that I freed by moving the files. Where did my space go ? Please help, I need to get rid of filevault as soon as possible & I think this is the only possible way for me to do it without external hard drive.
Also the filevault tells us how much space I need in my home folder to turn it off. Earlier filevault showed exact space as I kept moving filed, however after moving around 50 GB of data it still tells the same amount of space I need to free from my home folder.
P.S: No files were duplicated while moving, I took care of it. I'm using snow leopard 10.6.8
Is filevault buggy ? It happens as if my disk space is expanding as I'm moving or deleting data.

I have the same problem. Video exported from FCE in 1080 .mov is very very poor quality. I have tried every export setting combination with no success. The property inspector says that it is 1080 resolution.
I can very easily export excellent quality 1080 .mov files, using the same source video, with iMovie. The two applications use the same export GUI.
The video was shot on a Canon 7D, H.264, 1920 x 1080, Millions Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz.

Morning i tried accessing the i-pod drive from Explorer n have seen lot of folders created for the songs like f001,f002...n chking that folders, songs what i hv deleted is stil available in that folder..then i started to delete from there, now its working fine. Is there any option to delete songs from i-tunes directly instead of going arnd like wat i did today???

iTunes match won't automatically remove content from your computer, if you want to do that you will need to do it manually yourself.

This problem is exhibited when viewing an address page in personal data that contains
two spaces in the address field. i.e.. APT102- 102 Elm St.
We put debug traces in to display the ascii character values of the spaces before
and after the record is brought up. This debug showed that the two spaces change

After: ASCII(160) ASCII(32)
This is causing the application to display a record change warning. This occurs
on IE 5.5, 6.0, Netscape 6, but DOES NOT occur using the Opera 6 browser. For
what it's worth, the database is Non-unicode.

Deleted a time machine backup and space hasn't freed up

I'm having a n issue where I have deleted my entire time machine backup from an external G-Drive and the space hasn't free from the drive. It is a 2tb drive and the backup was somewhere in the 700gb range. I have about 890gb in other files and remaining space of about 63gb. The drive was connected through my Airport Extreme and have not been able to see it in the trash so I can't empty it. I've also tried re connecting the drive back to my iMac and trash can still appears empty and the remaining space is still at 63gb. I am using latest version of OS X Yosemite on a late '12 iMac. Let me know if I missed anything that you need and thanks in advance for your help

Your problem is more likely to be Yosemite.. get another computer running any other OS so you can actually see the sparsebundle.. you have deleted the files inside the container but you haven't thrown the container away.. Yosemite has huge permissions issues with files on external or network drives.. or perhaps that is too specific.. Yosemite has huge issues!!
If you have earlier OS or even a windows computer (you would have to share the drive to the network).. and try and delete from there.. Use something other than Yosemite. Otherwise you will need to offload the files and format and then copy the files back.

There is no download for 10.4.x or 10.5.x, there is a very slim chance you can get 10.5 by calling Apple, but usually you can only get it on eBay & such.

Need a method so that extra spaces automatically get removed from end of the sentences in MS Word 2013

i have some documents (pasted from other applications), in which at the end of some sentences, an extra space exist before ending dot (.).
for example "this is an article ." so it is assumed as error.
is there ant trick or method or micro so that all extra spaces be automatically removed from end of sentences & for example the above sentence becomes so:
"this is an article."

Press Ctrl+H to activate the Replace dialog.
Enter a space followed by a period (dot) in the Find what box.
Enter a period (dot) in the Replace with box.
Click Replace All.

Why does it take so long for the iPhone to recognize when space has been freed up for photos?

The short story:
I try to take a photo using the built in camera app. I get the dreaded 'no enough storage' message.
I then delete a bunch of photos, podcasts, etc. effectively freeing up plenty of space to take a photo.
Nope - iPhone Camera still things there is no space available.
After some unknown time delay - 10 minutes or more, in many cases, it will FINALLY let me take a photo.
The longer and more detailed story:
I know EVERYONE gets this message at one time or another and I know how to resolve it: "Cannot Take Photo - There is not enough available storage to take a photo. You can manage your storage in Settings."
Fine. I understand that. I'm out of space on my phone (not iCloud, as some users seem to confuse). It's a no brainer - you don't have enough space on your phone to take a new picture. Again - fine, I get that.
What I DON'T get, and what drives me absolutely NUTS, is that I will then go through my photos and delete a dozen or so that I don't really want, easily freeing up a good 20Mb or more, then when I try to take a photo again, I STILL GET THE out of space MESSAGE! Baloney. I am NO LONGER out of space. iPhone, you incredibly well designed and intelligent piece of hardware, why, for the love of all that is good, can't you figure out that I know have 20Mb free?
So, then I'll jump over to Podcasts, which I love, but take up lots of room on my phone. I'll delete a few of the large ones I've already listened to, easily freeing up a few HUNDRED MEGABYTES. We should be good to go, right? WRONG. The iPhone genius still tells me I don't even have enough space to eek out one lousy photo.
If I let my phone sit there long enough -- 10 minutes, 30 minutes, a few hours -- I haven't determined when the magic happens -- eventually the iPhone realizes that 'Hey, the user just deleted a bunch of junk and, wow, I'll be a son of a gun -- there IS enough space now to take a photo. iPhone -- happy!'
Thanks for nothing, iPhone. By this time, my daughter has stopped doing that amazing cute thing that I wanted to capture forever and quite possibly spawn the next generation of 'Charlie Bit Me' parodies. I freed up 500 Mb of prime photo snapping space 20 minutes ago. Thanks for finally realizing it. I realize you can only do like 170 quadrillion calculations a millisecond. I realize these things take time.
Can one of you iPhone engineers please, for goodness sake, please explain to me why this INFURIATING and seemingly unnecessary delay exists? I am no Windows fan boy but I can sure tell you that when I'm running low on hard drive space on my laptop and then delete 1GB of files, that 1GB INSTANTLY becomes available to me. I don't have to wait some interminable timeframe until it magically is usable.
One last thing that is puzzling -- so the native iPhone camera will refuse to let me take a photo because it things we're out of space (when we're not) but any third party photo app, like Camera+ or Camera Awesome, will happily snap pictures all day long. In fact, once I've taken them using one of these apps, I can then SAVE THEM TO THE CAMERA ROLL!
By the way -- when I started this well thought out rant, my iPhone said it was out of storage, and now, five minutes later -- you guessed it -- still out of storage, despite the fact that I deleted 10 photos and 4 podcasts.
So. Incredibly. Infuriating.
For you iOS 7 users, please let me know if this issue has been resolved at all with iOS 7. I've held off upgrading because iOS 7 messed up a bunch of things with the camera, at least on my wife's iPhone 5. Focus no longer works reliably -- touch to focus and touch to expose no longer work well -- the quality of photos took a big hit. I won't update until these issues have been resolved.

Thanks @pdroth. I did a quick Google search of DB indexing. I'm not sure I found exactly what you were referring to but I see where you're going with it. I can understand that indexing my database of stored photos can be time consuming. It's frustrating that the space can't be recognized as being free more quickly.
I notice that some items I delete seem to free up the space much more quickly. Removing an app entirely or deleting from my Music generally shows up as available space in Usage pretty quickly.
Deleting a photo or video from the Camera Roll will take MUCH longer, so I guess that has something to do with the indexing process you are referring to.
I'd like to point out that when I run out of space on an SD card on any budget point and click digital camera that I can quickly delete a picture or two and INSTANTLY be able to take a couple of new photos in their place. I guess I just have that same expectation for the $500+ engineering marvel I have in my hand right now.

CSV Volume low on disk space warning alltough the space isn't used (VSS?)

we are running a HV-2012 Cluster. most of the VM's are backuped by DPM 2012 r2.
Recently i noticed some "CSV low disk Space Warning" withing SCOM.
Today i looked at one of the CSV's.
The Size is 1800GB and if you look at the Size of all the Folders on the Volume within the Explorer they are 1250 GB.
After that i looked a the Failover Cluster Manager -> Storage -> Disk: This console states that there are only 36GB Free on the Volume.
My guess is that the VSS Snapshots use up the Disk-Space? But if i do a vssadmin list shadowstorage
only drive c is displayed.
Could this end up in a Problem or is the vss Space freed automaticly?
Or is there something else wrong?
Anyone a clue on this?

First thing is that you're running out of space and need to move quickly to make space while you figure this out. When you run out of space, the VMs will shut down.
How many VMs you have on that CSV and many VHD(x) disks you have an the CSV? Another question that matters here is how fast is your backup for each VM?
Regardless of the backup software being DPM or any other VSS based backup, it works by creating a checkpoint of the VM, which creates a snapshot of its disks. A volume snapshot turns the VM disk into a read only disk and starts a change log disk (.avhdx)
file. The crash consistent read-only .vhdx file is then copied by the backup software agent from the host to the backup server. Upon successful completion, the agent deletes the VM checkpoint, which merges the disk snapshot, merging the .avhdx and .vhdx files
back into one file.
So, if you're backup time for this VM takes hours, during that time, the VM disk space usage can grow a lot more that what it would usually use. If you run out of disk space then, backup will fail, the VM will be suspended, and you cannot bring it online,
since the merge needs even more disk space.

How do I remove an apple ID that isn't mine from my Ipod Touch

I am unable to update my apps or purchase apps in the App Store on my Ipod Touch. When I try to do this, it asks me to sign in with my password to an account that isn't mine (it belongs to a friend who has used my itunes before on my computer). I can't seem to get my own apple id/email to come up so I can proceed with the app store updates and purchases.
I have tried going to settings--> store and signing out, but I seem to still be signed into my actual apple ID.
As far as I know, all the apps on my ipod touch were purchased by me, so my own apple iD should be the only one that comes up when accessing the appstore.
Any ideas on how to make my own apple ID pop up when in the appstore would be greatly appreciated.

When you go to Settings>Store can you sign out and sign in with your ID?
That should work with purchasing new apps. It is likely that the other users purchased apps with his account. You have to log into the account that purchased apps to update them. If you have apps that need updating that were purchased from more than one account, you have to update the apps one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased with one account.

Java Heap Space error while reading from Excel

Hello,
I have a data flow which reads from excel and updates records in an oracle table.
When the data flow tries to read the excel I get a java Heap space Error.
Error preparing to read <SUPP_STG3_FILE1>: <Java heap space>.
Data flow <DF_SUPP_STG3_UPD> is terminated due to error <58105>.
I have configured Excel Adapter since the server is on UNIX. BOExcelAdapter shows status as red once the execution fails. Before that BOExcel adapter status is green.

As Jay mentioned above it might be due to the size of the Excel spreadsheet as you might be hitting the limitation in Apache POI library used for adapter.
What is the size of the Excel file?
What is the value of -Xmx parameter - see DS Management Console > Adapter configuration page.

Deleted files on external hard drive...but space isn't opening up!

Hi all,
I do my Time Machine backups to an external hd. I recently tried to do a backup and it failed, telling me there was not enough space. It told me I needed 12.something GB and I only had 10.something GB available.
I checked the amount of available space on the hd, and sure enough there was about 10GB available. I deleted about 7GB of old music files (not backup files)--and when I checked available space again...it only showed the same 10GB! I deleted a little more...same thing. I was deleting files, but for some reason it wasn't creating any space on the hd.
I thought I would just try to unplug it, restart computer, re-plug it in, and go ahead and try to do a backup with Time Machine. Well, again I got the message that the backup failed due to lack of space. Same numbers--12GB needed, only 10GB available.
What the heck is going on? Why isn't deleting files creating more space on the hd? Any thoughts on this mystery? Thanks a lot!!!

Are you emptying the Trash after deleting the files? You won't free any space until you do.
No need to look for a Trash on the external; the normal Trash in the dock will do the job.
