Spacebar/hand tool shortcut no longer working
Hi,
I almost constantly use the hand tool toggle shortcut of the space bar in Illustrator. Today I've turned on my work machine and for some unknown reason that shortcut no longer works. When I try to set it up again (it's reverted to H and is no longer toggling, it just turns the hand tool on which is useless to me really) it tells me that 'the key pressed cannot be used as a shortcut'.
What's going on?
Sounds like a corruption or conflict.
Have you installed any new software of any kind including fonts?
have you updated any software of any kind?
have you launched recently software that you have noyt used previously?
Have you tried to create a new user account and logging into that account to see if it happens with a fresh user account?
If creating a new user accounts eliminates the prblem than you have some conflict or corruption could be your settings folder.
It would be helpful if you give us some information about your system and hardware.
Here is how clear out your preferences
Mac
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS# Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
PC
1. Quit Illustrator.
2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS# Settings folder.
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

CS6 spacebar/hand tool scroll no longer shows the desktop scrolling
Just got CS6, and spacebar/hand tool scroll no longer shows the desktop scrolling, it only shows the rulers moving and I have to use my imagination to know if my scroll/pan is taking me where I want to be. What's up with that? I really need to see where my scroll is taking me.

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Did they take away the spacebar hand tool shortcut in CS4?
using illustrator CS4 on mac os x leopard. When I hold down spacebar, nothing happens. shut down the program, re-open it.... it's stuck on the Pointer. I checked google to see if anyone else had the problem as well as the preferences, I couldn't find anything.
Anyone having this problem?
EDIT: They also did something with Alt/Option + Drag. I use this all the time. it doesn't work!! what's going on???I've had this problem before as well. After trying to duplicate it though I was unable to blame it on any one thing for certain. I usually run my mac with many open programs and Entourage is one of them for my email so that's the only "microsoft" product I had open. Do you still have ai Ver10 on your machine? I can't say for certain but it has now happened twice and the only commonality was that I had to open a file (old one for art pickups) in ver 10. After opening the file and saving etc I went into CS3 CS2 CS and my spacebar was not working as you describe. I closed all apps and restarted CS3 and it came back. I didn't find deleting the prefs made any difference and I even applejacked my machine but again, no difference.
I would like to hear from others that have experienced this strange issue and what they've been able to find out.

Sorry but I don't think Tommy D made a mistake asking here.. I have a similar problem and, since it affects different programs of Adobe Creative Cloud on Mac system, I'm loosing a lot of time searching for the right answer through singular application's forums. Still with no luck.
Because Adobe Communities lacks of a "General Mac System's related Technical Problems" forum (or maybe I'm not so skilled to find it), could you be more specific instead of suggesting a too general starting point?
I believe this is the aim of a "community"... People helps people.

Spacebar hand tool not working in PSCS5
I have a brand new imac intel i7 27" and have installed photoshop cs5, but the spacebar hand tool is not working. any ideas?
the hand tool and all other tools work, just the shortcut key of holding the spacebar doesn't work.

I was running Chrome side by side with Photoshop CS5 and it worked fine until I used the Anesidora extension on my chrome. I disabled it and turned Chrome back on and my spacebar shortcut came back!

Hit he space bar repeatedly. If that doesn't do it, quit Photoshop, then hold down the Command+Option+Shift keys as you re-launch Photoshop and keep them down until you see the dialog box that allows you to delete, trash or reset your Photoshop preferences.

Since updating my iPad Third Generation ("New iPad") to iOS 8.3, Keyboard Shortcuts no longer work. Also on my Logitech EasySwitch Bluetooth Keyboard, triple tapping the home button on it no longer works to trigger Accessibility, even though that is still set up for triple tap in Settings and continues to work on the iPad itself. How can I get these functions back? Wah!
TEmporary solution at iOS 8.3 keyboard shortcuts. Old bug reappeared.

Apple TV sleep mode remote shortcut no longer works with newest software update. Why? Is there an alternative other than nav to settings menu? Reset remote shortcut dead as well. :(

Spacebar Shortcut: Hand Tool Showing But Not Working
Runing the CS6 trial on a Windows 7 Laptop (x64). I was in Photoshop (64), and noticed that when I held down the spacebar to pan the open image, the hand icon would show but the tool will not work. No matter how many times I click and drag, the image stays still. If I select the MANUALLY select the hand tool it works, but the spacebar shortcut key is non-functional. This issue persists across both the 32 & 64 bit versions of Photoshop.

I am creating a circle, duplicate the layer, then i select the subtract front shape ... after this i need to be able to use the spacebar to center my subtracting circle so thatt i end up w/a nice border.
I closed firefox but that didn't work and so then I restarted my computer w/out opening FF at all and still the spacebar will not work.
Rather than the hand icon appearing the only thing that changes is that the small black box that shows the height and width adds the x & y demensions.
Does anyone know if i need to turn something on or off in order to enable the spacebar?

Hand tool shortcut not working

All of a sudden double clicking the hand tool to zoom to 100% isn't working. It does absolutely nothing. I was playing around with the guides (turning on/off) and then suddenly the hand tool refused to work. Zooming in/out is suddenly a huge drag! Can anyone help me with this?
Also, did Illustrator used to have a "step backwards" option? I thought I remembered one but now I only have Undo/Redo and I can't tell if I'm getting confused with Photoshop. Thanks for any help!Serpentinemoon,
For the latter, how about Ctrl/Cmd+Z and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z?
For general, and especially sudden misbehaviour, you may try the list.

How to get back spacebar Hand Tool in Photoshop CC 2014?
Spacebar is not a shortcut anymore in CC 2014 it seems. Trying to set it as one.. an error displays: "You can only use A-Z for tool shortcuts"
How can I get that shortcut back?It works for me. Press and hold the spacebar and the hand appears, then I can pan the image around. Nothing special had to be set, it works that way right out of the chute.
What does it do for you, exactly?
Also, please describe what system you have (Mac or PC, specifications). Ideally, Help - System Info in Photoshop, copy, and paste that info into a post here.

Superscript shortcut no longer working
Initially the shortcut for superscript worked but, it is no longer working. I have to use format/font/baseline/superscript to turn on and off. A real pain without the shortcut.
During one of my Pages classes the instructor added the character map to the tool bar and ever since the shortcut does not work. Not sure it really has anything to do with it.What shortcut are you using? The standard shortcut, which works here, is Control & Command & +. That is the + key next to the 6 on the number pad part of the keyboard. If you have a laptop, or the small keyboard without the number pad, or you want to use the alphabetic part of the keyboard, then the combination is Shift & Control & Command & =.

Mail Accounts Shortcut no longer working in Lion
In Snow Leopard I heavily relied on some custom shortcuts for switching between my different email accounts when sending mail as outlined in this site: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20081120093222315 . Then I upgraded to Lion and much to my chagrin, these shortcuts are no longer working. I have tried everything to get them to work: resetting passwords to defaults, repairing permissions, deleting my universal access and keyboard .plist files. What I have noticed is that it may be a problem with the "<>" characters used by mail in this field. When I create a shortcut in System Preferences I will type "SV <[email protected]>" and exit System Preferences. When I go back in it says ">SV <[email protected]>". No matter how many times I go in and try to fix this it doesn't work. If anyone else is having this problem or if anyone has any suggestions, Please Help!
This is difficult to sort out without hands on access to the webapp. I think Firefox should still allows your webapp to detect the Shift+F9, or at least it does in this simple example:

It's possible that a change in Firefox 19 is interfering with the function triggered by the Shift+F9 keyboard shortcut. Is there another way to run it to see whether that might be the case? -
Issues with Photoshop CS4 and Spacebar/Hand tool
I am pretty sure this is not the other hand tool problem I have read about. What happens is when I want to move around a document I click the spacebar to get the hand tool, in previous versions of PS i could do this and when I let go of the spacebar the cursor goes back to the previous tool I was using. In cs4 it doesn't go back to the previous tool unless I hit the spacebar again. This also hinders my zooming in and zooming out, I have to click the space bar let go and then click either the ctrl or alt button alone to zoom. It used to be that i could hit space+ctrl and let go and it would go to the previous tool.
I have PS cs4 on WinXp. I have checked every place i could in the prefs and in the keyboard shortcuts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is really hindering my workflow.elpipetuanis wrote:

Other than that you could experiment with different setting in OpenGL or look at keyboard repeat rate in the Control Panel applet.
