Spaces and emptying trash

Whenever I am on space other than the space that I have assigned for the finder and I empty the trash, I am not automatically transferred to the space of the finder, I have to do it manually.
For example I am on space 2, I have assigned space 1 for finder. I click 'empty trash' and the message 'Are you sure you want to permanently erase the items in the Trash?' comes out but I cannot see it, I have to move manually to space 1 to see it, I am not transferred automatically. This was not the case in Leopard, it is a problem since I installed Snow Leopard.
Any ideas? Thank you

Try setting Finder to "Every Space" in Spaces preferences.

    No.  When you removed the photos via the finder you damage the library.  Photos should always be removed from the library using iPhoto, never with the Finder.
    If you have a Time Machine backup of the library from before you deleted the photos you can restore the library to the Desktop and export that album from it to import into your current library.
    It's been too long to be able to try one of the file recovery applications.  You sure to have overwritten those files with new files since them.

  • Using and emptying Trash...

    I have a few questions about Trash that I can't find answers for (I hope this is the right place for this post).
    I have many items in my Trash folder, and want to Securely Empty some, but not all of the files in Trash. Can I do this? Is there a way to either selectively delete the ones that I don't need to delete securely, or securely delete the ones that I want destroyed?
    Is there a way to just delete files that have been in the trash for a certain amount of time, or can I only delete everything in there at once?
    Finally, I put some Aperture files into Trash that I didn't mean to. How do I restore them to Aperture?
    Thanks!

    The only way to delete files is to empty Trash. Putting them in the Trash is not the same as deleting them. I recommend you put them in another folder and only put them in Trash when you really want to get rid of them (securely or not).
    To put it bluntly, yes, you can only delete everything in the Trash at once.
    And here's something to go with the title of your post, "Using and emptying Trash." The way I use it is I never keep things in it for more than a few minutes. Usually, it's seconds before I empty it. Most often, thought, it's less than a second.
    As for your Aperture files question, I'm afraid there's no was of restoring them, other than reimporting them into Aperture. But you should ask on the Aperture forums.
    Cheers.

  • Losing HD space when emptying trash

    I've searched the discussions a bit and found several posts dealing with similar problems, but none seem to offer a real explanation or good solution.
    For some time the available space on my HD seems to be disappearing, sometimes going from 3GB to 70 MB in hours. This is especially noticeable when I empty the trash sometimes, and the available space drops considerably (sometimes with 1GB or more) instead of increasing.
    The available space is restored when I restart my mac, but surely I don't want to be restarting my computer all the time. It's really annoying when I work with programs like Photoshop and I can't save or modify my work because there is no space available.
    I have had my mac for about four years now, and only recently started having this problem, though I'm not really doing anything different with it.
    I have downloaded and run both Whatsize and TinkerToolSystem as was recommended in similar posts, but I really can't get those programs to clarify/solve my problems. When I run Whatsize there don't seem to be any 'strange' large files, for all I know it may be multiple small files causing the problem. And when I run TinkerToolSystem the thing to do as I understand it is emptying my caches, but they certainly don't amount to the space I'm losing.
    A friend of mine told me he'd had the same problem, and it turned out it had something to do with deleting incomplete downloads. But he doesn't remember how he fixed it, and I can't seem to find any useful information on it myself.
    So, why is this happening and what to do?
    iMac Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Two things to consider:
    First, you do seem to have something running, somewhere, somehow, that is filling-up your disk. Do you have FileVault on? If so, turn it off, at least for a while. It's probably not the cause, but may be making it worse. Is your firewall on? If not, turn it on for the same reason. Are you using Raid? I don't know about it's implementation on Macs, but on some other hardware if you're having disk problems, raid will magnify them also.
    I'd also check the logs. It's a bit of a long shot, but there might be a clue there.
    Are you doing routine maintenance? Again, there's probably nothing there causing your problem, but it can't hurt. If not, here's a link to page 1 of a very good guide: http://www.macworld.com/2005/01/features/preventmacdisasters/index.php
    Second: the loss of space when emptying the trash may not be what's actually happening. While working with fairly large video files, I've come to the conclusion that a Finder window's "available" space figure is not necessarily updated when new files are created or added-to (as when importing video). But it does get re-calculated when you delete something. So if some hidden process makes, say, 2 gb of files, you won't see that on the Finder window. Then you delete a 1gb file, Finder updates, and it appears that you lost 1gb right then.

  • PreparedStatement space and empty String

    Hi, I have this problem:
    PreparedStatement bookedQtyPS = null;
    String qry="SELECT * from djwsearch where djwitem=?;
    bookedQtyPS = conn.prepareStatement(qry);
    if(item.equals(""){ //item is an empty String
    bookedQtyPS.setString(1," "); // I set space instead of empty String
    }else{
    bookedQtyPS.setString(1,item);
    My problem is that I need to set space insteadOf empty String, but I think that I can not use PreparedStatement to do this. I have performance problems (my query is much more complicated than this one) so I choose PreparedStatement and not Statement.
    How can I do? Is this bug solved using PreparedStatement?
    Thanks.

    you can do it with the help of PreparedStatement.
    Here the type of field(djwitem) and setmethod is should be match..i mean if the type of ur field is String then you need to use the setSting method.
    you can do one thing specify one string variable.
    String space=" ";
    and now put this sapce variable at the second parameter of setString method.

    Is there any possible way to retreive an erased file aftyer emptied trash bin?

    Buy a disk drive. Use TimeMachine. Put a 2nd partition that you use to clone your system.
    Have 2-3 sets of your files: active working files, backup #1 and backup #2

  • FileVault and Empty Trash

    Hello, I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. My computer is running faster now (and sometimes a little hotter unfortunately), but I lost my "Empty Trash" option on my FileVault account. I had it in Leopard, but now I only have "Secure Empty Trash" which I set up to do a 35x overwrite when I implemented FileVault. Is there a way to restore normal Empty Trash and still have the Secure option, and can I change the overwrite amount through some preference pane?

    Go to Finder > Preferences > Advanced. Uncheck "Empty trash securely".

  • I saw the deleted and emptied trashed photo files by accident!

    When I was attaching photos as file attachments to my email(hotmail),I selected a dozen or so photos in i-Photo then try to press the "Choose" button at the bottom right of the screen. Because the "Choose" button and the Trash Can Icon in the dock are almost overlapping I must have hit the Trash Can Icon instead.
    Then I saw the bunch of photos I deleted several months ago by "Empty Trash" command not the "Secure Empty Trash". When I saw the deleted photos I could not believe my eyes. Is this due to a bug in OS or Finder or??
    Is there any way to delete them permanently now? Or do I have to wait until they are overwritten?

    Try to drag them out of the trash to the desktop. Then see if they will play through Preview or Quicktime.

  • Help! Accidently deleted Itunes library and emptied trash.

    I accidently deleted my Itunes library and emptied the trash. I do have Time Machine. Can I use that to restore it? I went into Time Machine and couldn't click on the "Music" folder where my Itunes library was stored, even on backups earlier than when I deleted it. Am I doomed? How can I restore my library?

    Sure. Just open up Time Machine and choose a time frame when your library still existed. Find the file and click restore.

  • Lion takes long time to find free space after emptying trash

    After emptying the trash, I've noticed that Lion does not see the additional free space until after doing a reboot, and even after that it takes a long time for it to find all the new free space.  Anybody know what's wrong with the trash system?

    Absolutely nothing is wrong with it.  See Missing disk space in Lion.

  • Deleted my "microsoft user data" and emptied trash! how to recover!!

    I deleted my "microsoft user data" which contains everything to do with my entourage and then emptied the trash (not secure though). I know what was I thinking....I am running filesalvage. What do i do next in order to recover everything?? thanks!

    First, you need to understand that it's highly unlikely the recovered data will be intact. The longer it's been since you deleted it and the more you've used the computer during that time, the less likely it is that you'll be able to recover 100% of the data.
    This is because it's likely that the computer has written new data over the same sections of the hard drive that the old data used to occupy. This means that you may recover the folder only to find that Entourage tells you the database is "corrupt" or "unreadable" or something similar.
    (Also - I encourage you to switch to Apple Mail and IMAP accounts for your email. Using IMAP, everything stays stored on your server so that you never lose your email, no matter what happens to your computer. For more information, google IMAP and read about it.)
    Having said that, you'll find instructions for how to use FileSalvage at this website, roughly 2/3rds of the way down:
