Spaces Didn't Select Appropriate Space After App Opened

Had Leopard for 24 hours now and for a good few of these Spaces did not jump to the corresponding Space after opening an App specifically assigned to one. It was a real pain at first finding the right space where my new App window was and I thought it was the way Spaces worked but after using the Ctrl-Number keyboard shortcuts for the first time it suddenly started working.
I suspect there's a bug in here somewhere. Anyone else seen it?
Thanks,
Dan.

I'm not sure - I thought I had experienced the same until I realised what had happened... although this may not be your case or experience.
I had assigned different apps to different spaces. In my case, Preview was assigned to Space 3 but had opened in my frontal space (#1). When I double-clicked on a picture, it opened up as expected in the assigned space. What appears to happen (at least in my case) is that applications that immediately utilise a window or have a document window opened do so in their assigned space. Applications that can be opened without a window (i.e. Preview, Quicktime Player without auto showing the Content Guide etc..) do so in whatever space you are presently in.

  • Screen freezes immediately after app opened

Using iMac late 2009, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 using Mavericks Version 10.9.4 running ok since updating July 11th.
Today when opening Preview, Pages, Numbers, iPhoto, iMovie, App store etc. app opens as does application menu but then freezes entire screen.
Had to use force quit.  Safari ok but if opens in Preview can't do anything.  Tried reinstalling software without success.

I hope to have done as you suggested but hopelessly out of my depth.  Appreciate your help

  • I bought 200GB of month space on iCloud to free space on my MacBook and iMac, and hopefully help increase their speed.......it didn't work.  Does anyone know why not?

I have a MacBook Pro with 496 of the 500 GB being filled mainly by movies, music and iPhoto.  I also have an iMac that is also almost completely full with the same things.  Sadly, I think the iTunes library and iPhoto library are mostly duplicated on both computers, which is the biggest waste of space one can imagine.  I tried backing my MacBook up to an external hard drive, with the plan of deleting all of iPhoto and iTunes after I connected to the iMac and could make sure all of my music and photos had transferred (even if duplicated, I would sort it out later), long story short, not enough memory on iMac to transfer all of it, and besides, I couldn't find it in the time machine to transfer the data from the MacBook to the iMac anyway.
So I got the genius idea to just buy 200 GB of monthly iCloud data, thinking I would transfer all of my iPhoto libraries and iTunes music and movies to this magical cloud in the sky, and be able to free up about 200+ GB of space on my hard drive.  Well, I have spent the better part of the day copying and pasting everything I wanted into the cloud drive...well some of what I wanted.  After 15Gb of data is loaded, I am now getting messages that I don't have the space to load anymore, but my storage says I have 185 GB of space left!!!!!.  I have deleted all of my movies from iTunes and my music media folder (in Finder) but yet, I have not freed up ANY space on my hard drive....it makes ZERO  sense!!!  Does anyone have any suggestions?  What I really want, is someone from the Genius Bar to come to my house and fix this mess.....I will pay...no matter what it cost.  I tried to call and set that up....can't even get a person on the phone.  I called Best Buy, they are willing to send someone from the Geek Squad...but I have my doubts that they are Apple savy....suggestions?
    Thanks so much!
    Stephanie

iCloud should still help you reduce some hard drive space. Just select "optimize" in the icloud tab in Mac Photo App preferences.
Granted, not the same as completely offloading your library to a back-up drive at your location.
    Good Luck!

  • HT1657 Started downloading a movie then relized didn't have enough space oops help

I rented Gone with the wind then seen I didn't have enough space , how do I stop this please?

    Hello Chasa11,
It sounds like you paid for a rental but there was not enough space to download it, and after clearing some space you are unable to download it. If it is not appearing in the Rentals Tab of the Videos app I would check to see if you can resume the download in the iTunes Store app:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.

  • Time machine backup space after I open iPhoto

Hi, yesterday, after I had wrong delete some photo from my iphoto library, I have decided to restore entire iphoto library from Time machine backup.
I have select last backup and I select desktop destination folder for restored library. Then, i have delete original library and cut paste restore library from desktop.
I have backup all with time machine.
Now, when I open iphoto and close it without any changes, Time Machine backup always 450mb...
Is normal?? I have fixed permission and restore iphoto database.

Ok, I have tried TimeTracker with these results:
    in iPhoto Library
    -> Database folder = 171MB
If you're really making no changes at all, not even browsing, I wouldn't expect much to be backed-up.
I don't have a current version of iPhoto avaiable at the moment, so can't check.  But with a fairly small iPhoto '09 library (just under 1 GB), it backs-up just under 1 MB after just opening and quitting.  It's no doubt making some minor changes to lock and unlock things, perhaps keep track of when things were lasted opened, etc. A lot of it appears to be metadata.
That likely explains the database changing -- if anything changes in any kind of file, including a database file, the whole thing gets backed-up next time.
    -> Thumbnails/Segments folder 181MB
The backup data regards only iPhoto.
    Should I regenerate iPhoto Thumbnails?
    Might be worth a try.
Stil, I wouldn't worry about this too much -- as Time Machine deletes all but the first backup of the day after 24 hours, the most space those backups will take is 400 MB/day.  And, after a month, they're further "thinned" to one per week.
Not really a lot in relation to a 32 GB iPhoto library.

  • I rented a short film on iTunes but didn't have enough space for the HD version I paid for. I was unable to download it in SD for whatever reason and cannot seem to download my purchase on my desktop iTunes. Am I missing something?

I rented a short film on iTunes but didn't have enough space for the HD version I paid for. I was unable to download it in OR convert it to SD for whatever reason and cannot seem to download my purchase on my desktop iTunes. Am I missing something?

When you purchase an HD movie or show, in most cases the SD copy can be downloaded from your purchases area in iTunes. On the main iTunes Store page, go to Purchases under the Quick Links and then select Movies or TV shows as appropraite. Click the "Not On This Computer" button. Uncheck the "Download HD when available" box and you should then see the SD copies of the movies/shows and be able to download them.
Note that with digital copies from a Blu-Ray or DVD, if it comes with an HD copy, you normally cannot get the SD copy as well and have to purchase it separately if you want it.
    Regards.

  • Lion dialog boxes don't have outlined button selectable by space bar

After installing Lion, the dialog boxes (e.g. when sending mail or saving file) show one box highlighted in blue as expected, but I cannot tab or move to the other buttons, and no button has the outline indicating it is selectable with a space bar (and, indeed, the space bar has no effect).
This is only happening on one of the computers I upgraded to Lion; the others are working fine. Any ideas?

As Gilda would have said, "Never mind..."
Notwithstanding 30 minutes of fruitless forum searching, once I posted the problem, a suggestion in the "More Like This" box to the right led me right to the following:
There's a setting in System Preferences (under Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts tab) for Full Keyboard Access. If you select "All Controls" it will let you tab between buttons and any other controls (checkboxes, radio buttons, etc.) in the window. You can also press Ctrl-F7 as it says on the bottom there. Maybe you hit this key combo by accident??
    Bingo

  • Okay so my 64G iPhone 4S was stolen about a year and a half ago, it was backed up to my computer and I got a new iPhone but it's only 32G so I didn't have enough space to back it up as my old phone, so how do I get all my memory on my old phone back?

Okay so my 64G iPhone 4S was stolen about a year and a half ago, it was backed up to my computer and I had used around 50G. I got a new iPhone a year ago but it's only 32G so I didn't have enough space to back it up as my old phone, so how do I get all my memory on my old phone back without having to get a 64G phone? Thanks

No, there is no way to put more content then there is capacity for on the device.  As wjosten mentioned, you might be able to edit that backup to remove things to reduce it in size where you could then restore it to the new device, but obviously, everything that you had on the old iPhone will never fit on the new one.
No matter what you do, you are going to end up with less content on the new device then on the old one - there is no way around that fact other than returning the 32GB iPhone and getting a 64GB one.  A gigabyte of data is a gigabyte of data, regardless of device, and will require a gigabyte of storage again, regardless of device.

  • Indesign opens files with no space between each word, this happened after a mac update, help?? I don't want to have to go through and manually do it.

    thanks in advance!

If you are unable to enter the passcode into your device, you will have to restore the device to circumvent that passcode.
Is the music purchased from iTunes? If it is you can contact iTunes support and ask them to allow you to re-download the music that you purchased from iTunes.
Also, do you sync the device regularly? When syncing an iPod Touch/iPhone a backup file is made. That backup file doesn't contain your music but it does contain your address book, application data, pictures, notes, etc. After restoring your device, you can try restoring from the last backup that was made of your device so you will not have to start over completely from scratch.
    Hope this helps!

  • Apps not opening in the assigned Space but in the active Space

I'm not sure if this is normal behavior in Spaces or not:
I have Acrobat assigned to Space 1, Chrome assigned to Space 2. When I download a PDF via Chrome and then click to launch it, Acrobat opens in Space 2, not where my other Acrobat files are located and assigned (Space 1).
Is this the way Spaces is supposed to work? That an application or file opened via another application opens in the active Space rather than the assigned Space? With this behavior, I then need to drag the PDF document from the wrong Space to the right Space if I want to see it side by side with other PDF files. It seems to work this way for all of the different files as well as when I launch an application for the first time. It too opens in the active Space, not the assigned Space.
I've tried this with the "When switching to an application, switch to a space with open windows for the application" checked and unchecked and it makes no difference.
Am I missing something? Is this the way it's supposed to work?

Sometimes if you open a PDF through a web browser it opens as a window in the browser rather than the app. I don't have Acrobat or use chrome but if I open a PDF from a web site in Safari it just opens as a page in Safari rather than in Preview. Therefore if I assign Preview to a certain space and open a PDF in Safari it will open in any space that I have assigned to Safari. Or the active space if I haven't assigned any.

  • Apps open in a new window/space.. how do I turn this off so all windows open in "desktop"?

Whenever I open an app it creates a new space to open the app in. All apps do this, and you can see the windows/spaces by hitting F3; the icons are lined up at the top of the screen. How do I disable this feature so all windows and apps open in the "desktop" space?

  • In tune show all summary activity during sync between nb and apple device. One of the summary is memory space status. Audio mayb3gb, photo 2gb, app with 3gb. What is other? Other consist of what type of file?

In tune show all summary activity during sync between nb and apple device. One of the summary is memory space status. Audio mayb3gb, photo 2gb, app with 3gb. What is other? Other consist of what type of file? It show quite substantial storage capacity?? Anyone can answer what is in other??

"Other" includes data such as contact information and photos assigned to contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cookies/history, notes created with the Notes application, SMS messages, email stored locally or cached, and 3rd party application data created and stored by the application.
If "other" is more than say .75GB at the most, you had a corrupt sync. Try syncing again and if the problem persists, the recognized fix for this is to restore your iPad.
