Spaces in Filenames

Has anyone had a problem opening audio files in Audition CS5.5 that have multiple consecutive spaces in the file names?
I'm working with a client who has hundreds of audio files with multiple consecutive spaces in the filenames who's transitioning from Cool Edit Pro to Audition CS5.5 and is still in the Audition trial period. He claims that he was originally able to open these files for several days with no problem, but suddenly he finds that when he double-clicks on one of these files, Audition will open but the file will not. No error shows up; Audition behaves as if it were opened without specifying a file.
On the plus side, the files can still be opened from within Audition through the 'open' dialog.
If, as I suspect, no one has run into this problem due to their not using multiple consecutive spaces in filenames, it would be great if some knowledgeable person could rename a file or two to include such spaces and see if the problem shows up.
Thanks,
Dave

I don't want to put words in Charles' mouth but from his phrasing, I think that might be a safe assumption.
However, it's wrth noting that, now that CS6 has been announced for imminent delivery, anyone buying CS5.5 in the meantime gets a free upgrade.  From all the posts in here recently, it appears that CS6 is functionally similar to CS5.5 but with FAR more features, some new, some restored from earlier versions.

  • Mail.app: I can't send attachment with "space" in filename

    Hi.
    I've this kind of problem. I think it is Mail.app problem. The mail isn't sent if the attachment's filename contains "space" (eg: "file name.pdf").
    The same email is sent finw if I use Thunderbird with the same SMTP server (Leopard Server) and from the same machine.
    If the recipinets in local (not relayed over internet) it works well. Otherwise the SMTP server tell me it have lost connection whith relay server (ISP SMTP server).
    I've used Lotus domino Server as SMTP server with the same result.
    If I cut the "space" (' ') in the attachment's filename Mail.app works fine as well.
    HELP!
    thanks.
    P.S.: sorry for my english

    There is a bug which causes the filenames of attachments with a space or an accented character in the name to have characters appended to the filename extension; it may be that it also sometimes stops the attachment from sending. But other people have reported problems with mails with attachments not sending regardless of the filename, so I think the next software update will see some fixes.
    Meanwhile, don't use spaces!

  • WebDAV problem - cannot see directories/files with space in filename

    Using latest OS x 10.4.6 and can access my company's Sharepoint server via WebDAV.
    However I only see folders/files that have no space in the filename - this is a major showstopper as I obviously cannot impose on rest of company how to name files.
    PS: I can access this Sharepoint site via a webbrowser but I cannot easily upload/download files in the browser interface. Actually upload does not work in Safari (endless timeout) but it does work in firefox
    PPS: Tried DAVExplorer and it could not even access the sharepoint site.
    Help appreciated.,

    Thanks Tim.
    I am connecting to an external WebDav server - Sharepoint 2001/2003. As per above SP 2003 and OSX as client create all the troubles listed above..
    Note: I compared console.log from my Sp2001 connections and SP2003 connections. Connecting to SP3 and gtrying to access a WebDav folder with directoriers/files containing spaces I see all kind of errors in console.log - see below.

  • Problem with spaces in filenames

    Created a photo album in iPhoto and exported to iWeb. When I try to upload to my Comcast homepage, several graphics elements in the photo album page have spaces in their filenames and Comcast balks. Is there a way to keep iPhoto/iWeb from utilizing filenames with spaces in them? Thanks.

    Hi Stanley...
    I'm glad that you got your space problem fixed. If you ever update your site, though, you'll have to redo all of your hard work eliminating the spaces. Here's a little utility that will do this for you a little bit more automatically...

  • Removing spaces in filenames but keeping them at the top of the page

    I would like to change the filenames to remove the spaces, but I would like the top of the webpage that includes the links to the other pages to maintain the spaces. I know I can do this by hand, but that is cumbersome- is there a way to automatically do this in iWeb? Or are the link descriptions always tied to the filenames?
    Thanks,

    I use MassReplaceIt to amend the names at the top of the page, see the Home Page of www.willg4pb.com. In iWeb the page is called Home, but what you see in the header is Welcome to www.willg4pb.com.
    I simply find <title>Home</title> and replace with <title>Welcome to www.willg4pb.com</title>
    There is an example of using MassReplaceIt on the How2 page of www.willg4pb.com, showing how to insert favicon text.
    You can set up multiple searches in one query and save the query, I think its a great app, its donation-ware, so please do support the developer (I have no association with the app, I just think that its really useful ).
    You need to run the query each time you make a change that effects the html file, so dont forget to save your query for use later.

  • Mail Attachments - Spaces in Filename

    Hi,
    Does anyone know the official Apple response to the mail attachment issue when an attached file has spaces in the filename? This is still an issue in Mail 3.5 under Leopard 10.5.6.
    Although Mail can read the attachment, several other Mail programs don't recognise the attachment as the original file. Outlook totally screws things up by recording it as a [filename].dat file.
    Hardly ideal in this day and age.
    Stu

    I've experienced this as well and don't think there's a way around it (other than the one-at-a-time method you described).
    It might be worth sending feedback to Apple about this: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • White spaces in filename (URL) become %20 and get Page Not Found

    I have installed iPlanet Netscape 6.0 sp2 under Solaris sparc 5.8. I also have the Weblogic plugin for Netscape. The problem is that if in the url I have spaces, it does not resolve the flename: http://server:port/dierctory/Hello%20Test.html and I get Page Not Found.
    I already tried the URLDecoder.decode(fileName) and it does not resolve the problem. My guess is that I am missing some configuration for Netscape. I never faced this problem before becasue I always have Netscape and Weblogic or another app server in the same server. Please, any clue would be appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance,
    Marga [email protected]

    I think there's an open bug about this. This thread appears to have a solution. If not, search forums with "+url +uri +%20"

  • SRW.SET_HYPERLINK - Handle SPACE in filename AND open in NEW WINDOW

    Report 10g (10.1.2.3.0 - 32bit on Windows 7 64bit)
    Issue #1:
    using srw.set_hyperlink to get a handle on *.pdf file on remote server. Report is launched as PDF. PDF that is opened via the URL launches in same window as report. I need run report as PDF, click hyperlink to get handle on another file which should launch in New Window.
    SRW.SET_HYPERLINKATTR only useful with HTML and HTMLCSS. Javascript? If so, sample code?
    Issue #2:
    possible that file retrieved will have spaces in its name. Hyperlink defaults %20 in the spaces of the name, but the link does not successfully retrieve file. Tried replacing spaces w/ %20, but like defaults does not retrieve document; due to actual file name not having the %20 in its actual name. Is there are way to account for the spaces in the URL then "remove" them to find the correct file and open in new window?
    Tried using virtual path as well as physical path.
    Help with either or both issues is truly appreciated,
    Thanks!!

  • Problem with spaces in filenames when using ODI tools

    Hi everyone,
    has anyone of you ever encountered the following behaviour:
    When using any ODI tool related to file manipulation the tool does not work if the file parameter value contains a blank/space. Example:
    OdiFileDelete "-DIR=c:temp" "-FILE=Test this.txt" "-RECURSE=NO" "-CASESENS=NO" "-NOFILE_ERROR=YES"
    In this case an error will occur saying the file does not exist although it exists in the directory.
    Has anyone a workaround for this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Hauke

    Hi Madha,
    thanks for the prompt answer.
    We decided to rename the files to make the tools work. Definitely not always applicable but in our case it's possible. Any hint why the behaviour is designed like this?

  • How can I load pics from camera without spaces in the filename (PSE5)

    Hello,
    I want to load the pics from my Fuji Camera with my newly acquired Photoshop Elements 5 into its database as simple as possible. I get offered several ways of renaming the pics during the import. Unfortunately the date formats offered (for folder or filenames) do *all* include space characters " ", which I do not like, because this caused me earlier a lot of trouble when putting the pics online, for example (%20 in the path name). Another reason is my existing photo collection since 2001, which has no spaces in the filenames as well.
    Example for the filename:
    PSE offers: "jj mm dd 001.jpg"
    I want : "jjmmdd_001.jpg" or at least "jj_mm_dd_001.jpg" or anything similar.
    For folder names the same thing appears.
    Is there a way to do that without typing each date without spaces by hand?
    How?
    I would like to have the photo load process as simple as possible, without having to remove the spaces with a separate rename tool.
    Any ideas?
    I searched for quite a while and I am surprised that nobody else seems to have this problem. Am I just too picky?
    Thank for any help.
    Greetings from Germany,
    Ulrich

    Ken,<br />again thanks for your writing.<br /><br />IMHO, if PSE had space free filenames, this would lead to a very simple and fast workflow with PSE alone (!) like this:<br /><br />1. Just connect my camera (Fuji F31fd) with the USB cable (no fiddling with the memory card in and out each time)<br />2. Transferring all (or selected) pics into PSE, one folder per day, named yymmdd_optional_theme_description.<br />3. Delete all non-optimal pics after viewing in PSE. Then tagging, pic-improving where needed ....<br />4. As backup, burn/move to CD from time to time and copy/move to an external HDD for double security.<br /><br />Its just the spaces in the filenames which prevents me from using this. I want to have the workflow well defined and fixed before I start using PSE5. <br />But it seems there is no workaround (so far).<br /><br />Maybe I should just take the "trouble" and rename every folder manually within PSE. No problem with one or 2 days, and still not a very big problem after a 3 week holiday. But still all single photo files will have the spaces in them. If I want to avoid that, I really have to bring them to the PC without PSE, rename them as batch with Irfan or any other tool, and then import them to PSE, as you wrote. From my point of view, a lot of unnecessary hassle, especially if I have the simple workflow from above in mind.<br /><br />Many people seem not to be disturbed by the spaces in the filenames. I wonder if I overrate the disadvantage of it. Your opinion(s)?<br /><br />I am not sure what you mean with<br /><Perhaps Ulrich would be well served if he created a collection of newly acquired pictures with a common theme.><br /><br />In fact I want to come away from theme centered archiving the photos, which is what I did so far. I learned this from the article <br />http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1018&message=26366116 <br />and the following one from Arrowman. I won't follow all what he wrote *in detail*, but most ideas seem to be good. The PSE tagging should do the theme-related searches.<br /><br />Greetings,<br />Ulrich

  • Firefox 3 cannot download files with white space in the filename

    When opening attachments in e-mail Firefox is unable to handle files with white space in the name. This is not the same as the white space file name truncation problem documented on this site (where file names with white space are truncated on saving.) The issue is that the browser will prompt to allow the file to be saved, but it will not prompt to open the file as an option. If I rename the file to remove white space then I do receive the "Open with..." dialog box. I verified that Firefox 2 did not have this problem and I can open attachments with white space in the file names just fine using that version of the browser (2.0.0.20).
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Upgraded to version 3

    When a user clicks on an attachment with spaces, the filename is truncated to the first whitespace. While IE, Chrome & Safari handle this, Firefox refuses to accept mime headers with unquoted filename parameters. According to Firefox's bugzilla/knowledgebase, Firefox's behavior is the correct behavior and it's a problem with most webservers or web applications. This problem can be easily corrected by surrounding the filename parameter with double quotes.
    Eg.
    Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + fileName + "\"");

  • Filename space problem

    I have Iplanet web server(iws, 6.0 SP4) talking with weblogic 6.1 (using NSAPI plug-in). the request reaches iws and is internally redirected to weblogic. the problem i have is that there is a folder in weblogic which has spaces in filenames.
    When I try to access any file having spaces through Iplanet having spaces, the Get call only encodes URI with the letters of the filename till the first space and I get error back. The same problem is not seen when I access through Weblogic. Is there a know problem with Iplanet when spaces occur in URI?. how to resolve it

    Is the problem in the GET request sent to iWS or in the GET request sent from iWS to WebLogic? If it's the former, make sure the URL is properly encoded in the referring page. If it's the latter, the problem is a defect in the WebLogic NSAPI plugin.

  • Filename with space problem

    Does anyone know why this code is giving me to save the file with the wrong filename? It converts spaces to + signs.

    Hi Tom,
    I know exactly what you are looking for.
    I have implemented it in my web dynpro application.
    Here is the code which you can write in action handler of the download button:-
    This will open up a pop-up window asking user to Open/Save As/Cancel type of dialogue.
    And you need to perform String manipulation on "p_FileName" to remove all the leading, trailing and intermediate spaces in filename.
         try {
              //Get Url connection and inputStream
              l_url = new URL("<URL STRING>");
              l_urlConnection = l_url.openConnection();
              l_inputStream = l_url.openStream();
              //fill up byte array
              int l_int_arraySize = l_urlConnection.getContentLength();
              l_byteArray = new byte[l_int_arraySize];
              l_dis = new DataInputStream(l_inputStream);
              l_dis.readFully(l_byteArray);
              //reset buffers
              l_inputStream.close();
              l_dis.close();
              //Set the Resource for file
              l_resource = WDResourceFactory.createResource(l_byteArray, p_FileName, WDWebResourceType.UNKNOWN);
              l_byteArray = null;
              //Get the url of created resource
              l_str_url = l_resource.getUrl(WDFileDownloadBehaviour.ALLOW_SAVE.ordinal());
              //Call external window passing the above url
              l_win_MultiFileWindow = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager().createNonModalExternalWindow(l_str_url);
              l_win_MultiFileWindow.show();
         catch (Exception e) {
    Hope it helps.
    Let me know in case you need more information.

    Hi,
    try
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename="+ filename);
    This should force your browser to open the file in the same window.
    And I had the problem with empty file name in save as, too. For our purposes, it helped to shorten the filename. But as I was told this depends on IE and OS versions.
