Spaces: Possible to hide applications from other spaces?

Hi
I'm wondering if it's possible when you press alt+tab and see the "application switcher", to show only the applications that are located in your current Space? f.x. if I have 5 applications open, but 2 of them are in the Spaces window number 1, then the application switcher will only give me a list of those two applications.
This is possible on Ubuntu, and is an extremely nice function.

no, this is not possible in OS X. some 3rd party virtual desktop programs might be able to do it, I'm not sure.

P.S. you can use exposé to show all active windows in all applications in the current space. not quite the same thing what you are asking but reasonably close.

I am having 'other' storage problems on a lot of my devices and I have been searching for a way to solve this. I was looking through threads of discussions and everyone pretty much said the same thing- that it 'other' is data that can't be classified into sections eg. things like documents, contacts, mail etc and that a way to get rid of it, as mentioned above, is to restore is. which said that there was a way to reduce the storage without restoring, having something to do with old uptade files of apps. I'm not sure if this works as I haven't tried it yet but they said it was safe and worked, so there is an option

Is It Possible to Hide Applications on PPC Without the Icon Color Fade

I use Apple + H to hide applications when i'm not using them but i'd like it for the icon not to change to a faded version of itself when i hide it. I know on my Intel Mac Mini it doesn't change the icon but i was wondering if it was possible on my iBook to have the same no-icon-change happen.

Are you talking about the Dock icon for the app? If so, it doesn't do that here. Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem's gone. If so, then something's amiss with your Dock settings. If not, then it's system-wide and you might consider reinstalling the 10.4.2 COMBO update or, better yet, the 10.4.8 COMBO update.

I am not able to access the application from other PCs in network

I am a newbie in this field and building an internal application for employees of my org. The HR will enter all the informations regarding a particular employee and it will get stored in the Oracle DataBase(10g).When the admin users will want to know information about a particular emp they will put the emp_code and it will retrieve all the information of that particular emp.For that I am using Oracle AS(10g).After the deployment of the apllication(.war file) in the AS(10g), when I access the URl- http://10.0.37.51:7777/emp/... from my machine (where 10.0.37.51 is the IP Address of my system where server is installed) the application runs properly but when i give the same url from other pcs the whole application does not run properly it gives an error msg http://d6z5sb1s:7777/...not accessible.. can any of my forum friend help me out to solve the problem.I will be thankful to you..

Here I am using Java Type IV for database
connection.
So,there was no necessity of creating DNS.How your app communicates with db shouldn't matter for the end user. Still, you may want to use a functional network name also for the thin client driver connection string.
So,is there any other way to solve this problem.What is the problem really? Do you not use dns for network naming? Maybe you have to manage the hosts file on every client then.

Not possible to add individuals from other sales orgs into activities

We are completing the upgrade of our web ic from version 4.0 sp 6 to crm 2007 sp4. In our 4.0 system usesr were able to create activities and add employees from other business units without issue. Since our upgrade to 2007 we now have the issue that if a user working in one specific sales org wants to add an employee of another sales org as an attendee or as a towards awareness in our activities within the web ic the system complains. It stops the user from adding the employee stating that the BP number in question is not valid for this sales org. No furtherinformation is available. How can we switch this off?
Just to be clear neither our org sturcture nor our org determination proceedures have changed within our transactions used within the web ic's have changed during the upgrade.

Mac OS Lion 10.7.3 and less - Switch application on other space

Hi all
I've been having this issue since I installed 10.7.1; I have uploaded from snow leopard via OTA.
The problem is:
Set an app on fullscreen or on a new space.
CMD-TAB to that app and it won't switch to it using the movement animation to the space where that app is.
It works the other way around though, if i'm in a fullscreen app and I want to go back to the default space, it works now ( in 10.7.3) but it didn't before and using the right movement animation.
Am I making any sense? If I haven't been clear please let me know and I'll try and be more explicit.

Calling application from other database

It's possible to call an application on another database, without informing user and password again?

Sorry for being fastidious, but I don't think you can "call" an Apex application as you would call a database procedure for instance. So I assume you mean navigate from one Apex application to another Apex application in a different database.
If you use single sign-on (SSO), that is a piece of cake.
If you don't, there is no straightforward way I think. You can use some ingenious ways to get round it though, for instance:
- In the calling application, using a database link, insert a token in some table in the other database along with the username and a timestamp.
- Pass that token and the username in the URL as a parameter to an "auto login page" in the other application
- In the "auto login page" of the other application, check whether the token/username combination is valid and, if it is, auto-login the user using the provided username.
You also could use other fancier techniques like queues. Maybe others may have other suggestions.

Starting Java application from other Java application..

I was wondering if it is possible to start a Java program from an other Java program.
In Java program 1, I have this code to execute the other application:

}I tried this code, but unfortunately I couldn't opened the other (JavaApp2.jar) Java Application. Is there a way to open the other application anyways?

What if there is no JAR file?Then you can make it out of the .class files. And to anticipate your next question, if there are no .class files there is no application at all, so you can't exec() it or call the main() method directly. Your point?
And JAR isn't part of the Java language.It is a major part of the Java platform.
This means you can only get access to a JAR file via the OS. Wrong again. CLASSPATH. URLClassLoader.
In short you cannot just shout main() in a Java program and hope some other Java program will hear you and start.Absolute rubbish. If the required classes are on the CLASSPATH you just call com.company2.app2.main(args) and off you go. Or you can load the main class and invoke its main() reflectively.
No source code required, or 'source code merge' either.

Opening an application from other application causes time out - urgent...

Hi All,
I have a wierd issue using weblogic server 9.2 mp2.
Here is the breif overview of the environment and issue.
Environment: WLS - 9.2 mp2
In this weblogic server i have two Managed servers.
Managed Server 1 : MS1
Managed Server 2 : MS2
Two Applications deployed on the server.
myapp1 on MS1 URL: http://myappserver:7309/myapp1
myapp2 on MS2 URL: http://myappserver:7310/myapp2
Now here is the issue.
I launch myapp2 from myapp1 using javascript window.open()
In this configuration when i launch myapp2 from myapp1, myapp1 times out.
Now when i deploy both app on same managed server (say MS1) and launch myapp2 from myapp1, myapp1 does not time out.
I deployed myapp1 on my local machine and launched myapp2 and it works fine. It times out only when both apps are on same weblogic server but different Managed server.
any pointers would be greatly helpful.

Are you sure the ports are correct in the javascript link when the apps are deployed to different managed servers?
Yes i made sure the port number is currect.
Have you tried using absolute URL's instead of relative links?
Yes i am putting the absolute URL.
When you say the timeout occurs, where are you observing this timeout, in the browser or something in the server logs?
I can see the time out in the browser. I checked the server log but it does not say anything.

Launcher shows applications from OTHER partition

My iMac's 2011 internal disk is partitioned so that it can boot either with Mountain Lion, or Lion, depending on my needs.
I've just noticed that my Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Launcher shows certain applications that do not exist on my Mountain Lion partition, but do exist on my Lion partition.
Here's another observation : when I update my Mac App Store apps through Software Update in ML, I sometimes have to run it twice !
I figured that it first updates a given app that resides on my Mountain Lion partition, and then, at the next Software Update call, it will update the same app on my Lion partition.
I always thought that there was a certain "water-tightness" between partitions on a disk. Now I see it is not the case.
And I'm not sure that this is a "feature". I wonder if this can lead to problems. For example, if an app is compatible with Mountain Lion and not compatible with Lion, it could still be installed in Lion.
How about ejecting the irrelevant partition before Software Updating ?
Any thoughts ?

Whether in your case with multiple OS X partitions, or in my case, with dual internal drives, the Dock on the primary drive will try resolve previous links to /Applications locations from previous preference settings.
Two things that I observed.
Spotlight was happy to index both drives at a performance loss.
The App Store may get confused about multiple Apple ID in multiple keychains.Which messes up normal App Store and Software updates.
In Spotlight > Privacy, I told it to ignore everything but the current boot drive.
I also created a new /etc/fstab file entry that blocked automounting the non-boot drive.
I then added missing apps back to the primary boot drive.

Hide music from other stores?

I've an account with the iTunes store in Ireland. Several times I've tried to purchase tracks only to find the track is not available in my country. I understand the licencing problems that prevent this, but is there a way to configure iTunes so that it doesn't show these tracks. It's very frustrating to see the track listed and then find I can't buy it.

Make sure you're connected to the Irish iTMS; the link for changing the country of the store you're connected to is at the bottom of the main iTMS window. The Irish iTMS should only show tracks available for sale there.
If you're clicking on a link elsewhere, then you have no control over which country's store the link's creator directed it to.

Spaces Preferences won't open from Menu Bar

If I select "Open Spaces Preferences..." from the Spaces pull-down menu in the Menu Bar, nothing happens. I can open Spaces Preferences from the System Preferences utility (in the Dock), and all other functions in Spaces seem to work fine. The same problem shows up on my iMac (Leopard) and my MBP (Snow Leopard). Same problem shows up in other accounts on these machines, too.
Any suggestions or insights?

It's weird that this problem has somehow propagated to all of your machines and accounts. Really weird. Makes me think some third party gadget, common to all machines/accounts, is interfering with the correct operation of the menubar icons.
Some things I would try if this were happening to me (besides contemplating third party conflicts):
Remove the icon from the menubar (e.g., command-drag it off) and put it back again.
Look at log files in Console to see if there is any kind of error message appearing when you try to start up spaces preferences from the menubar.
(Re)Moving the relevant preferences to see if they are corrupted. I am thinking of
home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
But I am betting on the third party explanation.

Safari 5.1.7, OSX 10.7.4, can't print from Safari but can from other apps

I recently upgraded the Safari program as well as the recent OSX update.
I also upgraded Adobe reader from 8.0 to Adobe Reader X and removed Reader 8 by dragging it to the trash.
Now the Safari print dialog displays "No Printer Selected" and will not allow a printer to be selected. I do get a PDE error that says that the AdobePDFPDE800 bundle isn't working. But I've no clue how to access and delete it.
The printer is a Ricoh Aficio CL4000DN. PPD's have been reinstalled today.
The is NO PROBLEM printing from any other application. All Apple aplications other than Safari print as well as applications from other companies.
any ideas?

Unless you really need Reader, I suggest you uninstall it according to Adobe's instructions. It's dreadful. If you do need it, ask for help in the Adobe user forums.
