Spaces sliding animation ceases

I have a recurring issue with Spaces where it ceases to do the sliding animation when I switch between Spaces; instead, the windows on the old space vanish over about a tenth of a second while the new ones pop up.
I think it's connected with switching between using an external display on my MacBook Pro with the lid closed, suspending the machine in that state, and then waking it without the external display by opening the lid.
Is this a known issue? Any way to fix it aside from a reboot?

Oh ok...i think i get it now. I was thinking that you wanted
it to change when the mouse was moved over it. This is not hard at
all. Is this what your looking for? (Click here to see example:

if so you can download the .swf to see how i did it:

Sorry that it is not very well done...i did it in about 5
min. If you have questions just ask.
Hope that this helps.

  • How to disable sliding animation of "blocked remote content" message bar?

The latest release of Thunderbird now has a sliding animation of the yellow message bar stating: "To protect your privacy, Thunderbird has blocked remote content in this message "
When I access Thunderbird on the office computer via a remote viewer program like Teamviewer, The screen redraws several annoying times as the notice message opens op, pushing the entire message content window downward. This really slows down the operation.
Most other Thunderbird animations can be disabled, but I can't find a setting that defeats this superfluous "eye candy". Is there a setting somewhere that turns off this animation?
    Thanks,
    Dave

The remote content notification bar drives me nuts:
    1. It takes up space in the message pane.
    2. I have to deal with it for every single message.
    3. Having set the "block all" option, I don't want to be pestered.
    4. Surely I should have control of it anyway, on general principle.
Much better would be the option to have a "show remote content" button in the header area or on the toolbar.
Good Thunderbird people, please fix this!

  • Is there a way to speed up or disable the Spaces transition animation in Mountain Lion?

The Spaces transition animation seems to have gotten slower since upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion. You could disable it with a terminal command up through Lion, but that doesn't work anymore in Mountain Lion. I'm using Ctrl+Arrows to switch between Spaces.

I''m finally seeing what people are saying
I've heard quickly gesturing for a space is a solution. Mission control is also fast with switching.
Although I haven't really timed myself doing that.
You can send feedback to apple saying you would like it to be faster http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html (make sure you state you're on Mountain Lion)

  • Disable the sliding animation that occurs when switching desktops via command → or ← in Mountain Lion

I would like to disable the sliding animation that occurs when switching desktops via command → or ← in Mountain Lion. It gives me motion sickness!

No third party applications installed; no gestures changed. It just starts acting up like I described a few times a day. I'll be browsing the internet and go to switch desktops and it suddenly doesn't work.

  • Speeding up spaces: How to disable the transition animation?

Is there some way the disable the Spaces transition animation? I would like to change between the different virtual desktop as fast as possible.
There are some times when it gets quite annoying: when you move to other spaces the screen flickers if there is a big window to be re-drawn.
    Thanks in advance

This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to networks in general. It is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe:
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network in general is not supported by Adobe.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.  It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.

  • Mac Pro 2013 Slow UI Animations

I have just got a new Mac Pro, its a six core model with d300's and 64GB of RAM. My problem is that i am having real slowdown when using mission control and when sliding between spaces using the mouse. I am running 2 4K displays with "retina" mode on scaling them to 2650x1440... Though i have tested with scaling off and i still have the problem albeit slightly better than with it on...
I am beyond disappointed with this and i am really considering sending it back, is this normal or could there be something wrong with my model? My 2011 iMac handles this better even at 30 hertz its much smoother. When i use only 1 screen the animations become smooth again.. Even after a reinstall of Yosemite i still have the issues..
Is this normal? Should i send it back?

Yeah was like this from day one (Yesterday ) and i didn't upgrade from an older OS it came with Yosemite pre installed. I have since reinstalled Yosemite without any change. I have also found a way to turn off "HighDPI" by holding alt to select scaled in display preferences and choosing a low resolution option. This has returned animations to super smooth! This is heartbreaking after buying 3 4K monitors and a nearly 4 grand computer
Here is my output from EtreCheck. I know there are lots of devices plugged in but last night when checked i was doing it with a clean 2 displays \(one via HDMI and one via TB). As i run this check i am not having the issue (explained how above) but i am desperate to use the 4K displays with High DPI.

  • Spry Sliding Panel bugs with Flash SWF, iFrames, CSS background images

    Greetings,
I'm working on a site right now that is build with Spry 1.6
Sliding Panels. On the home panel I have integrated a looping SWF,
and scrolling iFrames on the Overview panel. After extensive
research on these forums, I'm still scratching my head at a few
    bugs listed below:
    • Firefox (MAC v2.0.0.14)
    - The SWF on the home panel doesn't hide properly when
sliding to a different panel. I have set 'wmode opaque' parameters
to the flash file, but this seems to have not resolved the issue.
    - Additionally, I've noticed that sometimes the SWF will not
finish sliding into the correct position when clicking to the home
panel (the SWF will stop sliding several pixels left of the
    original positioning).
    - The SWF (which happens to be a loop animation) resets every
time the home panel is visited. In my testing, this does not happen
    in any other browser.
    - On the Overview panel, scrolling iFrames are used on the
"Staff Profiles". These iFrames don't hide properly when clicking
through other panels, as the scroll bars are still viewable.
    - Overall, the sliding animation is a bit choppy compared to
all other browsers. I can live with this, but I wonder if I have
    improper code somewhere?
    • Opera (MAC v9.27)
    - Same issue as above concerning the fact that the SWF
appears outside of the sliding panel view port.
    • IE 6
    - CSS background images flash during the sliding panel
    animation.

  • Add 3D Modeling, Simulation, and Animation to LabView

I am posting to announce the availability of RoboWorks software.
RoboWorks is an easy to use software tool for 3D modeling, simulation
and animation of any physical system. It provides an inexpensive
alternative to hardware (especially robotic) and brings 3D simulation
to every desktop. When using RoboWorks you will benefit from:
    * Extremely intuitive model development
    * High quality, fully interactive 3D graphics
    * Lightweight files that conserve disk space
    * Full animation, even while building your model
    * Interfacing with popular software packages
Most analysis and visualization software such as Matlab, MathCad, and
LabVIEW support graphics limited to charts and graphs. RoboWorks adds
    3D modeling a
nd animation capabilities to these software packages. Now
you can do your analysis in the software of your choice and visualize
and animate your results in RoboWorks.
RoboWorks supports interactive animation via the keyboard (animate as
you build your model), through a data file, or through RoboTalk.
RoboTalk is an Open Source applications programming interface that
allows programs running on any platform that supports TCP/IP to
interact with and control RoboWorks models in real time. For example,
your control program running on Linux can now control your mobile robot
    simulation in RoboWorks in real-time.
RoboWorks comes with full-featured help and a variety of sample models
such as those shown at left. Also included are sample RoboTalk
programs, LabVIEW support, program-interfacing support through DLL's
and RoboTalk source code for non-supported platforms.
For more information email us at [email protected] or visit
    www.newtonium.com.
    Platforms: Win 95/98/NT/2000. Any system
    with TCP/IP for RoboTalk.

    Before you buy.

Well, what you mention in your two sentences is somewhat of an Oxymoron. 3D modeling and animation, decent software and simple to use don't belong in the same sentence let alone paragraph. This is a FCP forum but I'll answer with my 2cents as I am a motion graphic artist that does 3D animation. There are about 6 different 3D applications that are worth their salt. Maya, 3ds Max, Softimage, Cinema 4D, Houdini and Blender. All are quite capable. None are what I would call simple to use. If you want to do 3D animation you need skills in modeling, texturing, rendering, lighting, rigging, animation, dynamics, drawing and script programming just to get started. If you are not up to spending the time and effort in having someone train to learn these skills and to spend the $$ for the hardware and software, what I would recommend is outsourcing your initial projects to get you started so you get an appreciation for what is really required to do the job and then once you understand all that is needed, you will have a better understanding of what software would fit for what you are trying to accomplish.
    BTW I do freelance work.

  • Gradient animation

Hello, I'm pretty new to after effects so bare with me. I was wondering if it was possiple to take a 4 color gradient and basically animate it. You have 4 points that overlay, and you can move around to create custom gradient, but I couldnt figure out (maybe you cant) how to take keyframes when the points are at specific places on your composition. The effect Im trying to achieve is basically a moving (somewhat random) gradient flowing from left to right, in and out of the frame. Maybe there is a better way to do this?
One other question, using the plug-in partical world I made some particles that look pretty nice without the trapcode suite... I havent tried yet because I couldnt figure out the top question, but I want to take these "particles" and have them follow the gradient sliding animation. is it just a simple matter of key framing it at different points?
Sorry if those questions were confusing, I dont know how else to ask what Im looking for. Thank you for the help!!

To help you out in the future, if you edit values a lot, you can use this tool above your layers in the composition.
That red stopwatch auto-keyframes any changes you make so you don't have to go back and press the stopwatch as directed above all the time. I leave it on and it proves itself to be a big help.

  • Disabling slow windows and between apps. animations

I know this topic was discussed already but I think there's no clear point yet -
I’m using Mac Book Pro for software development and quite often need to maximise windows and switch between maximised applications. The delays of maximising and sliding animation is really annoying - has anyone actually tried to disabled it on Maverick?
I’ve tried to use different terminal scripts but they all don’t seem to help. TotalSpaces can disable switching between apps but not maximise and its not free - any ideas?

I agree. Finder is all wacky in Mavericks "House of Bugs" - , 3 solutions i know of depending on earth - moon alignment - weather - and what ever mood your mac is in.
1- use onyx to clean out cache, saved application etc and so on. it helps
2- if your boot drive has lots of folders and files within folders ... deep, try slimming it down, .. avoid going 4-5-6 levels deep with lots of files.  That was confirmed by an ex-apple engineer using new 2013 mac pro .
3- delete Flash and re install it.
Oh, maybe peek into System Preferences and turn off items in "Accessibility" - not sure on this, but i know it can cause issues.
I feel your pain dawg .. hope that helps ...

  • Spaces always sends  to the same Desktop, drop-lists and combo boxes broken

I have a new behavior that has just started. When I click on the Spaces icon on my dock - it has several weird behaviors. First, no matter what I click on - it will only send me to the upper right desktop. Second, when I move the mouse while using spaces - the animation flickers very strangely. Third, the animation when Spaces opens and closes is VERY VERY slow and it takes several seconds between clicking the Spaces icon in the dock to when the animation is complete and you can select a desktop.
Possibly related (because it started at the same time) all of the auto-complete menus (i.e. - those menus that help you type faster when you enter text into HTML forms etc.) are now un-usable. They flicker in and out so quickly that I cannot click on them. Ditto for any sort of combo-box or drop list control in any application.
Has anyone else started experiencing this problem?

I'll throw out some other ideas.
    A. System wide freak-outs can also be caused by bad or duplicate fonts installed or important fonts missing. Open Font Book and see if any fonts have a dot next to them. If you move or change fonts that are necessary for apps you get many problems. Here is a list of necessary fonts. The system fonts will not allow you to move them so it probably is not one of them. You can also try cleaning the system and font caches using Onyx.
    B. Incomplete upgrades can leave your system in a mess. It would be easier to archive and install then to try and figure out what pieces you are missing.
    C. I would also suspect any third party utilities you have installed, especially in the System Preferences or that activate on start up.
    System Prefs:
    • Out of date utilities for your third party mouse. Try updating the utility.
    • Haxies for the system- try turning them off.
    D. Antivirus programs often cause more harm then good. Do you have any installed? On Windows machine I have used when your subscription expires the software cripples your system. The solution is to completely remove it or renew your subscription.
    E. If you are using a wireless mouse check the batteries.

  • On wake from screensaver, black screen, but functional swipe?

Recently, when I return to my computer after the display has gone to sleep (or the screensaver has activated), my screen goes black. Sometimes I have the spinny beachball, but sometimes it's just a pointer. I do not suspect any high CPU usage since I do not hear my fan. The strange thing is, if I use my 4-finger gesture to switch between spaces and full-screen apps, I can see my applications until the sliding animation finishes, at which point it returns to black. Once, when I caught it just right (during/after the animation), I got a dialog box to appear ("are you sure you want to close all tabs" or something similar) at which point I could use my computer again, until I clicked the "OK" button, which made it go back to the black screen. The only way I've been able to make it go away permanently is to hold down the power button to force a shut-down and reboot.
Recent updates that I can think of:
osx system update (I have 10.7.3 now)
Canon printer driver update (MP620B, driver version 10.51.2.0)
    Google Chrome 17.0.963.56
Non-obvious software that I frequently use (If you have the same problem, do you see any patterns?):
    PandoraJam Version 2.0 (579)
    Cyberduck 4.2.1 (9350)
    Textwrangler 3.5.3 (2890)
    Parallels Desktop 7.0.14922
    Adium 1.4.4
    Skype 2.8.0.866
Any help or things to try would be appreciated, I lose work every time I have to force-restart...
    Thanks,

    Update
I thought I would try something that has been used in many trouble shooting situations where there might be a hardware or software problem with the computer. Creating a new user account. While I do have another account to sign into on this computer. I chose to simply "log out" and let the computer go to sleep and later see if it wakes up. Sure enough it does wake up. And acts normally. I'm not sure if logging out is the same as another user account.
What if there is something in my main account causing the "wake from sleep" problem. Outside of "permissions" and "running scripts" to clean up accounting. What can I use to trouble shoot which situation is causing this? I've used a couple of pref checkers but with no luck. Log doesn't show what happens while computer is a sleep. Only reports time it went to sleep. And nothing about trouble waking up. I have seen a lot of wrong permissions in cups iofn the reports. And there are not fixed when trying to repair. Especially, in the Colorsync first aid.
Any advice? Or should I wait for 10.5.6 to see if it corrects my problem before I reinstall software?

P.S.-the only software I have installed with nightly builds is the WebKit for Safari. It is much faster than Safari. Not sure why Safari is slugging/slowing it.

  • My Problems With Apples Choice Of Gestures

I really think they had something unique when they announced Lion and it's new approach to gestures. In my humble opinion it was pretty innovative. But I feel they really screwed up. Here's why:
    They introduced a new setup-
Three fingers for all the app related stuff, ie. Up for mission control, Down for App Exposé, and Left/Right for space,
    Two for scrolling and navigation.
It was phenomonal. I thought it felt way more natural and felt easier. Only problem? Two Finger swiping (for navigation) wasn't universal plus it often interfered with scrolling. The later could obviously be forgiven, and dealt with; however the former really hit hard. Now because most power users (**** most casual users as well) no longer use the back/foward buttons and got rather used to swiping back and forth with three fingers, it's really awkward to being forced to go back to buttons.
Now we are left with two different swipes for navigation (one with the card sliding animation for safari and the normal one for other apps). This leaves users having to switch styles every time they switch from a browser to another app, which imo is rather unlike Apple.
Here's what they should've done imo:
1.Two opposing sets of gestures you can modify and choose from:
Set 1 (Default): Two Finger For Navigation & Scrolling (system wide, i.e. not just safari), three finger for mission control etc.
Set 2: Two Finger for Scrolling (only), Three Finger for Navigation, Four Finger for Mission Control etc.
    2. Have two choices for navigation- (classic, or the new one with the animation). So whatever you pick that's the only style you'll see. For instance you pick the new animation, whether you use Set 1 or 2 only the gesture for navigation will use it. As oppose to now where you have two different gestures doing pratically the same thing for different apps.
Before you say it, yes I have already changed it in settings, hear me out completely. That's not my point. What I meant was that they should've pushed it forward it like this, and added the safari animation when you do a three finger swipe system wide, because right now it's not there.
It's easier too- 4 fingers for all the app related stuff, 3 for system wide navigation (w/ Safari animation), and 2 for scrolling.. It's more natural.
Like I said they could've of done good with what they have now, if they added system wide support for that two finger swipe animation for safari. Having it isolated sorta ruins it..
    Thoughts, opinions? Your Experiences.

Put iPhone into recovery mode, then set up as a new iPhone and restore. This will download a fresh copy of the software and install it into your iPhone.
Do wait until the whole process is complete.
While iPhone is on, press and hold both power/sleep button and home button to force shutdown.
Press and hold Home button while you connect the USB lead to your iPhone.
Release Home button when "Connect to iTunes" is displayed. (iPhone is now in recovery mode)
iTunes will recognise your iPhone is in recovery mode. Select to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone, iTunes will download a new version of software and install it.
Once iTunes states OK to disconnect iPhone (in the display window) eject your iPhone from iTunes using the eject button next to the iPhone logo, then physically disconnect the cable.

  • 10.6 clean install / poor UI performance

    Firstly, my spec:
    MBP (early 08) 2.4ghz / 4gb RAM / GeForce 8600M GT 256mb / 250gb HD
I did a clean install of 10.6 on this machine and everything went smoothly until I started to actually use the thing. The first thing I noticed was the jerkiness of Expose, Spaces and animated Finder preferences. Truly shocking. I noticed this immediately as there certainly was no issue with my previous 10.5.8 install. I also notice, although not all the time, that there are glitches in the UI when you double click a HD icon on the desktop. The only way I can describe this is that during the very first frame of the animation when the 'zooming' window is at it's smallest, it 'sticks' for a split second then zooms to it's full size. This doesn't happen all the time and I can't find a way of forcing it to happen.
I'm really bothered by this as the OS certainly doesn't feel polished to me - rather - it feels jerky and unresponsive on what I consider to be quite a good spec machine. This is driven home even more so by the fact that the previous incarnation, 10.5.8 has given me no problem whatsoever. I could have, maybe, expected to experience some weirdness if I was upgrading an existing install, but on a fresh, clean install certainly not.
I have played with the Quartz Debug tool to try and isolate whether or not this is a Quartz rendering issue and disabling beam-sync (a well known hack) actually makes performance even worse.
I'm starting to feel very uneasy about this release and will be resorting to cloning back my 10.5.8 install from my backup drive until Apple sort this out.
    Very poor.

No need to wait. Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall anything. See these for details:

  • Tweens to multiple locations

    i was on this page:
    http://www.alumiiinium.com/about.html
and was wondering how it is possible to make a tween between each
of the objects. specifically, you click a button and it slides from
object 1 to object 3, but if you go back to object 1 then to click
on object 9, it slides aswell like there is a tween. a way i can
think of making this possible is by making a tween animation with
every combination of clickable items, like a tween from picture 1
    to 2, 1 to 3, 1 to 4... 2 to 1, 2 to 3... and so on, with 10^2
    combinations.
another way would be to do it with code. example: on (press)
{filmstrip._x=950}, but this way it would just pop to its spot
    without a sliding animation.
what is the most efficient way to go about making and coding
something similar like on this page?

probably done using a single function that is called with
parameters for a given button. function takes parameters to control
the speed factor of the tween, the distance traveled etc. Then you
could just use the Tween class to move the object the proper
distance. this way, you don't need to handle every possible tween
possible on a case by case basis which would make the file size
    astronomical.
