Spam and Safe Senders etc

It does NOT work.
Continually I am having to go through the spam box and remove and mark yet again messages that are safe senders though clearly setup as a safe sender.
It simply is not possible to make enough blocked senders by blocking a user. Tomorrow simply brings even more from the same blocked senders. Done it, been there, simply doesnot work.
In all, the mail system is a very huge step BACKWARDS from Yahoo.

Hi Cherkhan,
Although we have a number of measures in place to detect and manage spam, we also rely on our customers to tell us what they don't want to receive. We base a sender's reputation on what our customers tell us about the messages they receive.
After moving to BT Mail you may notice some changes to how your email messages are managed. Email messages you would normally expect to see in your Inbox may be missing. You may also receive spam in your Inbox. We're sorry about any problems this causes during this transition period, and suggest you follow the advice below:
If you appear to be missing emails or have not received an email you were expecting, you first need to check the Spam folder. If the email is there, remember you need to mark it as Not Spam. Likewise if you are now receiving email into your Inbox that is Spam, remember you need to mark it as such.
If you have previously marked emails from a particular sender as spam but continue to receive emails from them they should try Blocking the Sender. Advice on how to do this can be found by clicking the Help link within BT Mail.
You can also add senders to their Safe Senders list and this will ensure that emails received from this source are delivered to their Inbox or a folder of their choice. Again advice on how to do this can be found by clicking the Help link within BT Mail.
If you find missing emails in the Spam folder, you can select the Not spam button, or alternatively you can drag and drop the email message back into your Inbox
Further advice can be found at BT Mail: What is spam and how do I stop spam emails?
Thanks

    Hi Ben,
Please close Outlook and only use OWA (Outlook Web Access) to receive the messages from
[email protected] and check whether the messages are going to Junk E-mail folder or not. If it is listed in junk e-mail folder in OWA, it indicates the message is marked as Spam by Exchange server

If it is marked as Spam by Exchange server, please add this email address to the server safe sender list.

  • Appending Outlook safe senders list via GPO

I am trying to append a known safe email address to my list of 'Safe Senders' in Outlook 2007 and 2010.
In our GPO I went into the ADM file for Office 2010, edited the Options > Preferences > Junk Email > Specify path to safe senders list
In there I put the UNC of our server which would be similar to \\comboi\home$\admin\SafeSenders.txt
But when I get my new policy, and then start Outlook the email address isn't added.......could it be a permission issue on the admin folder?  What would it need to be set as?
Has anyone done this and maybe offer a direction to look in?  Or if you know what it is, that would be great! :)
    Thanks

    Hi,
Here are the steps to publish a safe senders list through group policy. The first two steps are not required, but recommend for this solution.
    1) Set expectations that even after implementing this policy, you cannot guarantee that the issue will never happen again.
    2) Allow domain.com through any centralized spam filtering systems.
    3) Create a .txt file that stores a list of safe senders (domains or addresses) each on a new line
    4) Save the .txt file to a file share that is accessible by all clients. I put it on \\DC\Netlogon
    5) Add the Office 2010 Administrative Template (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=64b837b6-0aa0-4c07-bc34-bec3990a7956&displaylang=en)
    to group policy.
    6) Create a new GPO for customizing Outlook or Office.
    7) In the GPO go to User Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Microsoft Office Outlook 2010> Options > Preferences > Junk Email
    8) Open Specify path to Safe Senders list
    9) Set this policy to enabled and specify that path to the .txt file you saved in step 4.
    10) Now, here was the catch. This setting indeed tells Outlook where to locate the import file. It does not, however, tell Outlook to actually go import the file. This is done through a registry key. So in the same GPO navigate to User Configuration>Preferences>Windows
    Settings>Registry
    11) Right Click Registry and select New Registry Item.
    12) Set the properties to the following:
    Action: Update
    Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key Path:Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
    Value Name: JunkMailImportLists
    Value Type: REG_DWORD
    Value Data:1
    Base: Decimal
Apply the group policy, and the next time GP is updated on the client and Outlook is restarted, the safe sender list will be imported.
    Hope it helps.

  • Outlook Safe Senders list misses random emails.

    Hi There,
I am experiencing a strange issue with the Outlook safe list in our environment.
We use a GPO to enforce a global Safe Senders list, and set a GPO to push out the required registry key to ensure that list is imported into users Outlook 2010 Client.
The problem we are experiencing is that email addresses specified in the safe senders list are occasionally being put in the Junk E-mail folder.
To reproduce the issue I set myself up with a subscription from our SharePoint server that emailed me a report every 15 minutes. The fromaddress was
[email protected] . This address is in the safe senders list as verified when I check in Outlook. Throughout the day 90% of these emails will arrive in my inbox. 10% will go into the Junk mailbox..
It's got me stumped, does anyone have any ideas?

  • Safe senders list

we started to notice that our safe senders list was getting filled up, we would remove everything and then in a couple days we would see new ones getting added. Yes we do have company group policies that do add some but these are not those, and we do not
have the "add people I email to safe sender list" checked.
    Any ideas?

The same ones keep showing as junk no matter how many time I click not junk.  I also get a lot of email in the day so it is hard to check all of them.  I was just hoping there was a easy way.  I just don't want my contact list to get overloaded by added all of the email from stores and stuff.

  • I'm using Mail 7.3 but can't find a "Block Sender" option, as exists in Outlook, as a way to block spam and unsolicited advertising. thanks.

I'm using Mail 7.3 but can't find a "Block Senders" option - as exists in Outlook - as a way to prevent repeated spam and advertising landing in my Inbox. Anyone have a solution for this? I've had a look at the Message Rules option but that doesn't seem to offer a fix. Thanks

You should be able to manage the problem with Rules, if you are happy to just delete the emails without you ever seeing them.
In Mail>Preferences>Rules, create a new rule with these options:
Description: Give a name to the Rule, such as Delete or Block Sender
On the line started 'If' choose 'Any' from the drop down menu and on the next line select 'From' and 'Contains', and then input the email address of the unwanted sender
Under 'Perform the following actions' choose 'Delete'.
As other senders you want to block send you unwanted emails you can add them to the rule by clicking the '+' sign against the line you added the email, if you have an email from that sender on screen when you edit the rule - they should appear there automatically.

  • Exchange - Outlook filter Safe Senders

Person uses ‘safe list only’ in their junk email options (outlook 2010). Has over 2000 contacts and obviously checks the box of ‘also trust e-mail from my contacts’ along with a large list of ‘trusted’ and ‘blocked’ senders.  According to Microsoft
there’s a 510KB limit for all email lists.
There’s an address that he has in his safe senders list, however they’re still going to the ‘junk’ email folder as opposed to hitting the inbox.  I looked in OWA to check the block/allow section and that specific address isn’t listed as a safe sender
there.  Tried adding it and get a ‘Junk e-mail validation error:
'[email protected]’ and it doesn’t save the list.
Decided to try wiping out all the addresses, and setting the filter to ‘low’ and  manually add them to blocked senders as they come in.  Did that from outlook, however when I log into OWA, it’s still showing those lists as being blocked.
When I try selecting ‘don’t move email to my junk folder’ and save it, that same email validation error pops up.  Strange why it’s not updating this through OWA, but when in outlook all the settings are wiped out.  Any ideas?
I've tried changing the MaxSafeSenders from the default to over 5000 for that specific address in EMC.

    Hi,
Are you able to add any other Address to safe sender in OWA? if not, Please try and post the the result.
Is "trust e-mail from my Contacts" checked in Outlook or OWA? If so, uncheck it and try again.
Did you use the below cmdlet and checked
    "set-mailbox [email protected] -MaxSafeSenders 5024"
    Set-MailboxJunkEmailConfiguration

  • Java forums, job offer spamming and ethics

    Hi peoples,
I was thinking about the random job offering posts that creep up on these forums now and again. They annoy me as much as they probably annoy the next person, I'd imagine. Now, I know there's a report abuse button you can click, and the thread might eventually get deleted, but I'm not sure that really gets the point across that this is a bad thing to do.
So here's where the ethics question comes in...
I was thinking about making a program that, upon entering an email address, would attempt to start signing up that email to as many newsletters, mailings and random crap from various sites around the internet as possible. That way, when I see someone post a job offering on these forums (with an email to respond to, of course), I could provide the user with as much "useful" information as they have provided me. There's no question of whether or not I could write this, the real question lies in whether it would be an ethical thing to do or not.
All I'm really looking for is some opinions regarding whether or not this is a good idea. If I see that a lot of other posters feel the same way, I'll start working on this in my off-time, and I'll make sure to post the source code for it too :)

I still won't do this, but I'm asking this more out of curiosity, as I'm not all that familiar with law. I was wondering how signing up a random email could be constituted as breaking the law. I don't know the person's name, address or anything of the sort, so it's not like I'm wreaking havoc on someone's identity, or that the person would end up being contacted personally (over telephone, physical mailings, etc), so I'm confused as to the legality on this issue.
Just to reiterate, I won't be doing this, I'm only curious about the legal ramifications.I can't say for sure, but I don't think you'll find anyone here that could take the place of a decent lawyer. So to answer your question, you need to ask a lawyer.I'm most certainly not a lawyer, but I did just do thirty seconds of research on the topic of spam and federal laws within the United States. So that pretty much makes me an expert.
The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 is mostly geared toward spam labeling itself as such - the spammer must say that the unsolicited email is indeed unsolicited, may not send fake headers, etc. (spamlaws.com)
As such, it seems to me that the simple act of signing someone up for spam should not be illegal. Essentially, it would seem like, in signing them up, you are sending them the unsolicited emails through proxies - those being the spammers. So it seems to me that it shouldn't be illegal, based on the information I know. And also a google search of "sign up for spam illegal" didn't turn up anything to the effect of this act being illegal.
Well, I'm pretty much an expert barrister now. Time to quit being a software engineer and go take the bar...

  • Accepted Sendes and Blocked Senders

I am new to the Ironport workd and would like some advice.
I have a C300 and would like to set up a way to have certain addresses that are our business partners not be subject to the content filters that I have created.
I would also like a way to block specific addresses (i.e. "@news.fandango.com") from being processed and delivered.
If someone could lead me in the right diretion. I have read the manual but would like to get some advice from the guru's so I don't end up doing it over and over until I get it right.
    Thanks all.

For your business partners, you should create a policy called Business-Partners in your incoming mail policy and have it bypass anti-spam scanning and content filters for emails that match tath policy.
    Here's how to do that.
    1. Go to "Mail Policies > Incoming Mail Policies"
    2. Click on Add new policy. Give it a name like "Business-Partners"
    3. Add senders like "@businesspartner.org"
    4. Once this new policy is added, go in and Disable Anti-spam and content filter scanning for this new policy only.
To drop mail after the Ironport has accepted the message, here's how to do that.
    1. Go to "Mail Policies > Incoming Mail Policies"
    2. Click on Add new policy and Order it near the Top. Give it a name like "Drop-Mail".
    3. Add Senders like "@news.fandango.com" or "@.fandango.com" or "@mailinglist.com"
    4. Then for this new policy, disable antispam and antivirus.
    5. Click on Incoming Content filters. Create a content filter called "Automatic-Drop". Leave the conditions blank. For the Action, set it to Drop.
    6. Now go back to the Incoming Mail Policy and click on the Content filter for the "Drop-Mail" mail policy and enable the "Automatic-Drop" content filter.
That should do the trick. If possible, you want to separate your mail with incoming mail policies and not create hundred's of content filters.
Let me know if you have any questions or confused about something.
And congratulations on getting a new Ironport appliance. I'm sure you'll like it.

    1. You have a pre-release Beta 1 version of what will become Firefox 4 in like 5 or 6 months. Unless you are intending to test it for flaws and report those flaws to help in the development process, don't use it.
    2. Did you create a new Profile for 4.0b1, and are you using that Profile with it? ''That isn't done automatically when you install 4.0b1, and those of us who have been doing the "testing" for many years consider a new Profile as the basis of doing out testing.''
IMO, Mozilla is making a huge mistake by directly offering these beta versions to the general public.
Also IMO. if you want to play with 4.0b1, use the Portable Firefox 4.0beta version to minimize any conflicts with a currently installed version of Firefox, and to eliminate the need for creating a new Profile for 4.0 Beta #:
Download Firefox Portable Test to your hard drive and double click the '''FirefoxPortableTest_4.0_Beta_#_English.paf.exe''' file. The entire installation (including a new Profile for "Portable") will be self-contained in the \Program Files\FirefoxPortableTest\ folder and won't interfere with an "official" version that you already have installed. Your Profile will be in the \Program Files\FirefoxPortableTest\Data\profile\ folder.
The "down side" is that Firefox Portable won't launch if any other version of Firefox is already running.

How to stop safe senders from going to the junk folder?

Change the Junk filter options via the email provider's website.  Or, some email providers, if you move a message from junk to inbox, will auto-detect that you're 'trusting' that email address.

You can log out of the currently logged in account by taping on the id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and you can then log back in.
If you updated your existing account with a new email address then that shoud 'refresh' it on it
If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can redownload its content and download updates to its apps. Firefox 18.0.1 consumes excessive CPU--both in Standard and Safe Modes--when accessing Gmail (in Standard Mode). CPU consumption averages around 56% on my dual-CPU, Windows 7 desktop.
The only way to stop this from happening it to open Gmail in "HTML" mode. When I open Gmail in Standard mode, a "Loading..." status shows at the top of the page. After about 30 seconds, a error window pops-up within the Gmail page saying that there is a performance problem and provides the option to load Gmail in a limited, "HTML" mode. Clicking the HTML Mode link solves the issue. I've been using Firefox for years and have never seen this issue until now.

That second one sounds like malware.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />
