Spam email bypasses server to iMail

I have been receiving spam email in junk mail folder that does not appear on Verizon server

How many emai accounts do you have? How many of them are setup in Mac Mail?
Have you looked into the Junk or Spam Folder on the Web Mail system for Verizon?
If you only have one account and it is from Verizon then they are coming from the Verizon servers and being originally delivered to your Verizon Email Address.

  • Spam Email Server Account Hijacked

    Hello everyone,
I've been having a lot of trouble with one particular email server. I've posted a couple of questions but nobody has answered me so I went and re-installed the whole server by changing it's static IP and adding an Airport Extreme in between so that the server only does DNS, Open Directory, File Sharing and Email.
Everything it's been going well until one user started receiving email notifications about mail returned messages.
    I've tried several things:
    - Removed the non SSL website so I only left the Webmail on 443
    - Changed to more secure passwords
    - Lock the account after 10 bad passwords (the user gets blocked every couple of hours)
    - Deactivate the POP protocol as nobody is using it, we are only using
    - Tried blocking some Russian IPs because I noticed that all the emails are Reply To the domain ngs.ru but from the logs it looks like it's going through locally.
My user has only Macs and iOS products so even though it's a mixed environment I don't think there could be a Malware doing this.
I don't know what else can I do, I really want to avoid the server getting blacklisted and I've been looking for help so I would really appreciate if someone can provide me some guidance.

    I'll really appreciate anyone's help.

I've been getting a lot of bounce backs from the same SMTP server as you to our email domain as well.
The offending server mwinf5d55.orange.fr is sending "backscatter" spam which should be simply dropped by them instead of bouncing back to the "FROM" address.
Because of this problem of bounced emails, I've tweaked our SPF (Sender Policy Framework) DNS TXT entry for our email domain to help receiving mailservers know what our legitimate OUTBOUND smtp mail servers actually are.  This should allow correctly configured email servers to drop any email from mwinf5d55.orange.fr because it is not a valid source of email for our domain.
    (See http://www.openspf.org/SPF_Record_Syntax for some syntax)
Some details that I've dug up:
The SMTP server at orange.fr is accepting mail based on forged FROM: addresses which bounce back to you by the receiving target TO: address mailservers.
Eg. From your email bounce back message:  host mail.ru[94.100.176.20] said: 550 spam message discarded.
I'm not sure if the spammer is using the mwinf5d55.orange.fr smtp server as an open relay or if it's using someone else's smtp username and password to send mail.
If you look at the email headers of the original bounced (spam) email that caused the backscatter it shows for example (from one of our bounces that I've received):
    Received: from Unknown ([92.46.248.56])
    by mwinf5d55 with ME
    id 7XfA1l00l1Dkwus03XfJsw; Mon, 04 Mar 2013 20:39:43 +0100
    X-ME-IP: 92.46.248.56
    X-ME-Entity: ofr
When you look up the IP address source of that email it shows that it is coming from "JSC Kazakhtelecom, West Kazakhstan Affiliate".
    http://en.utrace.de/whois/92.46.248.56
If you lookup the original source email and find that it's from your original user's computer then you have a problem.  If it's from a compromised machine overseas that's sending forged spam on your user's behalf, then there's not too much you can do about it short of publishing a correct SPF record.
    Hope that helps.

  • Delete Email from Server... or Not...

I have yet to see a single person raise the same challenge I am having with email. So, I suspect there must be a feature I am not configuring properly... or something.
I have configured a POP email account. I want to be able to delete from the server AND just from the handheld without going back into the configuration menu. Is there a way to do this? Just looking for the flexibility to keep some emails on the server AND eliminate spam from the server so that, when I get to my email client on my laptop, on the email I chose not to delete from the server remains. Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.

    ampullae,
There is a setting on the iPhone for POP accounts that will remove messages from the server. If you check in Settings > Mail, tap on your POP account, and go to Advanced, you will see an option to "Delete from Server." You can use the option "When removed from Inbox" so that when you move spam messages to the trash, they should be removed from the POP server. You can also set the frequency to remove deleted messages off the iPhone so that the messages you have in the trash will be deleted.
I would highly recommend testing this process with some test messages until you find the settings that work best for you, so that you do not end up deleting important messages by mistake.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Spam email on wrong addresses

    Hi everybody,
From 1 week i'm receiving spam email on my (icloud) email address: It's strange, because i never diffused and used that address, but ok spam is spam.
The problem is that the same email are arrived by unknown addresses ON a unknown addresses!! Yes, the receiver addresses aren't mine but however I received the mails on my icloud account!!
Why? How i can do for resolve this problem?
    Maybe the accout was violated?
    Thanks in advance.

Something is miserably broken with Verizon's mail filters.  A large portion of the email THAT I WANT AND/OR NEED is blocked yet the garbage email messages are sent through.
I cannnot send email using any program other than the web page.  I used to be able to send email from my phone and from outlook on my computer, but something changed on their side as the outgoing mail server no longer recognizes me.  It says that my password is incorrect, yet I am able to log into the email system to get my mail.  I have been using the internet for over 20 years (yes, I know, I was working with a startup ISP in 1994, I am old).  I know how to configure SMTP and POP mail clients.

  • Managing spam email on the User's Mailboxes

    Hi,
i would like to ask if there's a way where I can delete spam email (actually it was detected as trojan by our current AV but failed to delete), residing on some of the user's mailboxes.
i think this can be down via powershell but my concern is I can only do it on my Win7 machine.
is it possible to enable the Get-Mailbox cmdlet on Windows 7?
    many thanks.

    Hi,
If you want to use Windows PowerShell remoting to remotely manage a server running Exchange Server 2010, you need to run the following cmdlet to create an implicit remote Windows PowerShell session.
    $Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri
    http://exch4-cu1.cu1.com/PowerShell/ -Authentication Kerberos
    import-pssession $session
Note: Please change "exch4-cu1.cu1.com" to your Exchange server name.

  • Spam email getting on iPhone even though blocked on computer

So just about 2 days ago someone obvisially got my email and so for some reason I am getting it on my iPhone.
What is weird is that when I log onto gmail online, I don't see any spam in my inbox, it's being blocked.
So it's somehow only getti on my phone.
    Any suggestions?

Sounds like your email program has SPAM filters set in it.
The iPhone is connecting to your mail server, thus gets what is on the mail server.
Your home computer does the same but then filters as it comes in with spam software/filters (however you have it setup)
For me, my spam filters are set on my mail server itself so spam is filtered out before any computer/device even checks for mail, thus I don't get spam on my computer or on my phone.
Consider a mail service that filters spam at the server level.

  • How to block spam email sender on iMac ?

How to block spam email sender on iMac ?

You can setup a Junk mail filter in Mail preferences, it will still enter your mailbox but be under a Junk folder. You can then check and if required delete the mail.
In this web page note the option of applying the filter via webmail on an IMAP server such as iCloud.
    http://itservices.stanford.edu/service/emailcalendar/email/spam/filters/osx
Another option is a commercial filter for Mail, this one but I know nothing about this software, a google search will probably find others.

  • Where did this Spam folder come from and how to I "un-spam" emails?

    Hello
I have my email account setup on my iPhone via POP. There is no spam folder on my email server.
Yesterday I noticed hundreds of emails in a spam folder in the folder list on my iPhone. When I log into my webmail this folder is no there, therefore I am thinking the iPhone has created it.
Firstly, how do I stop it from doing this?
Secondly, emails in there are from people who have successfully emailed me in the past without getting filtered into spam so how do I un-spam emails?
Is this spam a new iOS4 feature?
Ultimately I can resetup my email as IMAP but that will delete all the emails in this folder and I don't want to do that (so I suppose I'm going to have to manually move them all right?)
    Many thanks for your help
    Ken

If you are using Gmail, it is the All Mail label that has always existed, but Snow Leopard didn't show it.
You can disable it in Gmail's settings under Labels. Set it to not show in IMAP.
Some people experience problems when doing that, though. I did not.
I set up my Gmail as shown in this blog post: http://jeffschuette.com/2012/03/07/setting-up-apple-mail-to-rock-and-roll-with-g mail/
I didn't want Gmail storing emails that I had deleted, so I used his setup to stop it, and I also hid the All Mail folder from Mail.

  • Unreal number of junk/spam emails

unreal number of junk/spam emails. What do I do? I am constantly creating rules. In 36 hrs I have had 94....

That has to be filtered or controlled on the server in your webmail account. You have to filter there. The iPad has no junk mail filters. Log into your email account in a browser and set a filter or do whatever your email provider allows for to stop or filter junk mail.

The iPad itself cannot do it.  It must be done at the server, i.e. by your email provider.

Spam is all over the place. Receiving the odd message is nothing to worry about. Changing your password won't stop you receiving spam. It's irritating, but if it's not too many messages just delete and ignore. If you start getting a flood of it then you may want to think about a spam-trap program.

  • Blocking Spam Email

Greetings! Can anyone share how to block spam email on the iPhone? I have the spam email blocked on my pop email account but it is not blocking it once delivered to my iphone.

You should ask your email account provider why they don't have an adequate junk mail filter available at the incoming mail server.
The iPhone's mail client does not include a junk mail filter and even if it did, it wouldn't match the junk mail learned settings with the junk mail filter used with the email client on your computer.
With an IMAP account, you can store the account's junk mailbox on the server, which will be available and kept synchronized with the server automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's mail client. Keep the email client on your computer launched and running actively checking the account for new messages - checking for new messages every 5 minutes. Any message that is marked as junk with the junk mail filter used with the email client on your computer and moved to the account's junk mailbox stored on the server will be reflected automatically when checking the account with the iPhone's mail client - all server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
So in effect, you have a junk mail filter available with the iPhone's mail client that is being handled with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account.
This is not possible with a POP account, which is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.

  • How can i link my E-mail with my iPad in a way that i can delete my messages from my email inbox server not from my iPad inbox only?

How can i link my E-mail with my iPad in a way that i can delete my messages from my email inbox server also not from my iPad inbox only?
Because when i delete emails from my iPad inbox, it will be deleted on my iPad only but when i check my email inbox server from the browser its not deleted!
So how can i set up this link so when i delete any email from my iPad it will be deleted from my email inbox server also?

    Hi Pierrot10,
Insert your backup disc (or plug your external hd), then open Mail.
In the File menu, click *Import Mailboxes* and follow the steps for a *Mail for Mac OS X* transfer.
Navigate to your CD/DVD's or external HD's backup and hit "OK".
This should create a new "Imported" folder in Mail with all your old messages in it, that you can then rearrange as you wish, creating new mailboxes etc.

  • Unsolicited explicit spam email to an iCloud email address

I've been getting explicit spam email to my iCloud email address from a site in the USA for over a month. And no I haven't signed up for something and am not admitting it............and I'm in Australia so any "benefits" of the site are a long way away.
I've tried contacting the sender but because I've never used the iCloud account (my email is a me.com account) it's being rejected.
How can I delete the iCloud side of my without affecting the me.com email address ?
I believe that the iCloud user name may well exist with someone else in the USA because I've been told that is possible - anyone else know this ?
Any advice welcome...it's ceased being funny.

If it's always from the same sender, set up an email rule on icloud.com to send email from the sender to the trash.  This explains how to set up an email rule: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a3f8a.

  • April 2015: Could I have a current Answer to this question all reff are 6-8 years ago, Why since Firefox joined Yahoo, am I getting Spam Email Every Day, Thank

Since Firefox joined with Yahoo, I have been receiving Daily Spam Emails, never have I had so many since this merger. Plus only 3/4 of many received Emails are shown on the screen, the rest are cut off.. Thank you

Mozilla doesn't send spam, nor does Yahoo, so this isn't something we can control. I'd suggest you try adjusting the spam filters in your e-mail system to better get rid of the garbage, or switch e-mail addresses if it is really bad.
As for e-mails being cut off, try the steps at [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]]
