Spam emails sent out from my mac/hotmail

Ok. I never had this problem in my 15 years as an email user.
Two weeks ago, spam mails have been sent out from my hotmail account to my contacts. I have changed my password, did the malware scan and removed anything it was flagged.
It has been quiet since then. However, as I logged on today, I noticed 41 mails in my junk folder, labeled as 'Mail System Error - Returned Mail' with the content on some kind of Wal-Mart contest.
Also, I have found one email with the following content:(I have replaced the part where my email was with '(my email was here)'
Any suggestions?? This is driving me crazy!

The way many viruses work on a Windows machine is once it's on there it will mine the address book for e-mail addresses and send out copies of itself using addresses that it finds. So there's nothing you can do on your end. Unless you find all those spam e-mails in your Sent box they weren't sent by you but by somebody with a Windows machine who received an e-mail from you and got a virus.
The address "mta02.xtra.co.nz" shows it was sent from New Zealand. Are you in New Zealand?

To check if you have a virus, you can download ClamXav
also, go to Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor and see if there's anything that you don't recognize, and check your sent email to see if you've been sending emails without your knowledge.

    Why?
Because it's annoying to have to waste money (because I buy a lot of music), and if there's a legal way of getting free music - I'll take it.

I know that Apple and their products are very expensive and tight, but if I am unable to do this, it sort of encourages me to jailbreak instead of paying.
You'll be on your own then, no one here can give support for a jailbroken device.
    I strongly suggest that you read this article, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743 ;
Unauthorized modification of iOS can cause security vulnerabilities, instability, shortened battery life, and other issues
which explains what is likely to happen. We see countless posts here from users who have ignored that article's warning.
Don't be surprised if this thread is removed by an over zealous host.
First of all, I'm not asking for your's or anyone's support, that would be totally stupid to ask advice on Apple Support. Secondly, I used that as a bold statement to express my fustration in the kindest way possible, I've had so many dissapointments with Apple's services to the extent where I just cannot be bothered with using Apple anymore.

  • Spam email sent from my BT mail account

My email account appears to be sending rogue emails to my contacts list.
I first noticed the problem several months ago, BT NetProtect scans and malwarebites didnt detect anything.
I changed my password which seemed to work for a while but then same thing happened, my contacts list received a rogue email with a link.
I recently re-installed windows on my 2 p.c's hoping this would resolve the issue, but after a couple of weeks the same thing has just happened.
The last spam email sent emails to everyone from my old conatcts list, even though I had deleted all the contacts after the recent windows re-install.
I have looked at the 'Delivery Failure' emails and the header does contain my email address.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Iphone 5 hacked - about 30 emails sent out to what looks to be a phishing website - TELUS customer

Woke up to find out my iphone had sent out about 30 emails to contacts (not my full contact list - guessing maybe the last 30 contacts that have been either received/sent via email).  The web site isn't one I ever remember accessing (which in iteself is weird).  http://dcrconsultores.com.br/pbolqlx.pho
This is a fairly new phone acquired from my provider TELUS sent directly from TELUS during the inital shipment of iphone 5's last year.
I am on the latest IOS 6.0.2....model MD295C.......
Any suggestions on how to fix the problem
Yes I have a window's PC.....but it was powered off last night when the emails went out from my iphone....also when I checked this morning there were no outgoing emails in Outllook.......

Sounds like you're focusing too much on the possibility of malware on one of your machines. E-mail hacking these days is often done remotely, without any involvement from one of your computers. See:
Someone is sending messages from my e-mail address!
(That article is written from a Mac-centric point of view, but the particular portion I'm directing you to mostly applies to any device.)
As to the iPhone, unless you have jailbroken it, there is no malware that can affect it. So it is not a hacked or infected iPhone causing the problem. You can set your mind at ease in that regard.

To each his own. I own Outlook, but I avoid using it like the plague. The only Mac mail software I have liked better than Apple's Mail was Qualcomm's Eudora, which is no longer updated or even available, won't run without Rosetta, and unfortunately never quite got the hang of IMAP.
Check out this post regarding this user's continuing use of Eudora on his Lion MacBook:
    Shield Eudora from Lion's Claws
A thousand thanks and kudos to Michael for this fabulously excellent thread!
Eudora's now happy in her new Snow Leopard VM home on my Lion ModBook!
Appears essential to keep resource-forked data off Lion disk:
First attempt with Eudora on SL VM was sharing data on Lion disk. Error messages on open like "can't find Table of Contents" suggest Lion ate resource forks crucial to Eudora.
Found success by transferring data from SL Mac to thumb drive, then mounted drive in SL VM so Lion couldn't touch.
While Michael warns against storing data in VM, appears there's no choice with Eudora. At least She's enthroned on a mirrored RAID.
There is Nothing like Eudora! (to tune of "There is Nothing Like a Dame" from South Pacific -- Oops! my gray hair is showing!)
(It's amazing Parallels can force Lion to store taboo resource forks. Thank God for code warriors!)

  • HT5244 My email sent out no subject emails with links. Is that part of Flashback malware or something else? Help how do I stop it

My email sent out no subject emails with links attached is this a symptom of a flashback malware.

Not unless they're doing something new with it. If your OS is completely up-to-date, you need not worry about Flashback in any case.

  • When Lion officially comes out from the Mac App Store, I understand that I can just buy it from there. However, will the laptops have Lion automatically? Or does it come with Snow leopard still.

The ones sold that day will come with Snow Leopard most likely but they will be able to get a free upgrade to LIon if they apply within 30 days. Hardware coming through the supply chain from the day of the announcement will have Lion installed so it depends what stock people have to move before buyers see those.

  • I created an iTunes account and finished by having a verification email sent out. I never got the email and when I get the note to resend it it won't let me tap on it and below it says, email address is already verified for another Apple ID

Apple requires each Apple ID be associated with a different email address. Perhaps that is why you haven't received the email. Or you received the email and it is in your Junk Mail folder.

  • Spam emails sent from my contacts

Recently 2 sets of spam emails were sent using my email address to people in my contact list.  All reciepients were in my contact list, my mail sent box does not show these emails as outbound from my computer.  The only other option is it was from my BlackBerry curve.
Is there malware or a virus that could have sent them form my iMac?

It is very very unlikey that this happened because of some malware on your mac.  There are no viruses on macs .  It is most likely that someone hacked into your email provider.  It hasn't happened to me, but I know of a lot of people that has happend to.  You should probably contact your email provider to get more details.  also, check on the links to the threads listed in the box on the right "More Like This".  Some of them may be a little bit dated, but might give you some helpful information as well.

  • Email sent out with email client not sent & lost on both iPad & iPhone ?

I have noticed that emails sent on my iPhone and now iPad out with the email client such as a picture or a link from Safari have not sent and disappeared as if thy never existed. This seems to be an Apple issue as I have struggled with this all week using all the tips I could find including deleting the email account and turning off the iPhone.  I could then not re-add the email account until I reset the phone. I have this morning sent email fine from within the email software but emailing a link from Safari has just disappeared as if it never existed. This in reliability is making email on these devices useless. It does not appear to be an issue with the imap email (virgin media / blueyonder / gmail account). This would appear to be an iOS 6 bug to a novice like me as it has only started since the update.

Sorry Apple I have decided this is Virgin Media changing settings for their blueyonder accounts and not telling anyone do I have stopped using them for email.

  • SAP eRecruitment - EMail sent out of correspondance activity is garbled

    Hi,
As part of applicant tracking, any correspondence sent out of eRecruitment in the form of e-mail after changing the template is garbled (Basically we see some chinese characters). This is happening on the receiving end only with AOL servers like aol.com, netscape.net etc. When the same is sent to hotmail, yahoo or gmail or any other servers, E-mail looks good.
We are using the RTF editor to change the existing templates.
    Anykind of help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Go to the shopping cart transaction type config. Then check if an Event Schema is maintained.
To disable the shopping cart notification, remove the Event Schema maintained in the transaction type.

  • Multiple email accounts in Thunderbird, but email always sent out from just one no matter which i use - how do I stop that?

I have multiple email accounts on TB. however, whenever I send an email from any of the other accounts, when the email arrives it shows as having been sent from the email account I first set up on TB. even if i am replying to an email received, the reply shows from the original account instead of the one I actually send it from. I REALLY need to fix this fast!!

You have to set the return address to a different one from the first one (since that will usually be the default) if that is what you want. You can set the identity information from Account Settings > [account name] > Manage Identities button.

  • Have some kind of virus or trojan horse -- dozens of spam messages are being sent out from my PC. Is there anything I can do?

The messages do not show up in my Sent folder. Many of them are sent to dead email addresses and the only way I know that this is happening is from the "failure to deliver" messages from the Mail Administrator.
