Spam on iPhone Email

I have an independent email server, and I am getting a lot of spam on my iPhone. is there anti-spam software in the iPhone, or can it be added? Related question: is there anyway to select all the spam msgs on my iphone and then deleting them in one fell swoop? Thanks for any hel

I'm just curious is it just on your iPhone or in any mail client you use? If you can, install some anti-spam software on the server, like SpamAssassin (http://spamassassin.apache.org/).
Or forward mail through something like GMail, which has a pretty good spam filter (though you need to tweak it occasionally) and access GMail through your iPhone.

  • My mom's iphone is sending spam imessages and emails?

So my mother has a iPhone 4, running iOS 5.0.1 I believe. Our service provider is Bell Canada.
This afternoon I recieved an odd **iMessage** from my mother on my Iphone 4S, containing a link. Knowing that this was strange, I immediately responded to the message via the app Kik Messenger asking her what she sent me. As I suspected, she said she didn't send me anything via iMessage. On a hunch I checked my email, where I found three obvious spam **E-mail** messages sent roughly the same time. After informing her, she found that all of her contacts on her iPhone with email addresses attached had recieved spam e-mails, and those that had iPhones had also recieved similar spam iMessages via email.
Basically its like that old "I love you" spam email message that if you open it it goes through and sends itself to your whole contact list, only it is somehow able to send both e-mails and iMessages. No SMS that I'm aware of.
I'm going to get her to restore her phone from a back-up... but this boggles my mind. I'm having her change her passwords for both her email address and Apple ID, though I doubt that will actually do anything (at least it will make her feel better about the whole thing)
How is this possible? Does anybody understand the relationship between iMessage, your Apple ID and your email address? .

My girlfriend's iPhone just did this today, something about joining Vox me!, which she or I know nothing about.

  • Iphone Email Spam!!!

Iphone Email Spam... How do I filter the spam? My yahoo account filters the spam, but the Iphone does not!!

How you are accessing your Yahoo account on your computer is called webmail access using a browser with IE which also indicates Yahoo is doing the SPAM filtering at the incoming mail server for your account which should be the same when accessing the account with the iPhone's email client.
The iPhone's email client which is similar to using Outlook Express or Outlook on your computer if you used either one but is on a more limited scale does not include a SPAM filter. You may want to contact Yahoo technical support regarding why the SPAM filtering they are doing at the incoming mail server when accessing the account via webmail when using IE is not applied when the iPhone's email client checks the account for new messages before messages are downloaded from the incoming mail server.

  • IPhone Email Solution (Long and Detailed)

This is a long and detailed brain dump of how I got email to be really usable between my laptop and my iPhone. If you are not happy with your email setup on the iPhone, read on...
Before I bought the iPhone I followed (Apple's?) advice on getting things moved to the world of Gmail and more-or-less liked the concept. I had 3 domains plus my ISP email plus a variety of "anti-spammer" addresses forwarded to multiple Gmail accounts but all ultimately filter down to one gmail account. (Why so many addresses? One for personal, one for eBay, a couple for a few projects I've created that have a web presence, and some bogus to avoid spam when signing up for whatever, etc.)
Gmail worked fine - has a great spam filter - all emails came into it and with POP on one machine I was happy. Enter iPhone...
After using the iPhone for a few days I quickly realized (as others did) that Gmail's (non-standard?) POP implementation was not going to work. I couldn't send emails to myself without logging into the web-based Gmail to find them. Too many (old) emails were downloading at once (a problem later solved). I would delete an email on my iPhone and then on my laptop later have to delete the same email. I thought "Why on earth has Google not implemented IMAP?"
So the IMAP search began. My goal was to have a single IMAP account that all my mail could forward to that would allow me to delete once and have multiple (laptop and iPhone) apps in sync with one another.
fastmail.fm seemed OK. It would cost money and to be honest the bandwidth limits kind of scared me off but in my tests the service seemed to work fine.
.Mac was definitely a possibility. But since I really only needed email capabilities the cost was a little steep. In a short test it worked fine.
I finally stumbled upon the fact that my AIM account had FREE email associated with it @aim.com and most importantly it was IMAP! Also, the limits were reasonably high and it worked just fine.
On to the configuration...although I've gone through a few implementations of this setup - I've finally settled on one that I'm pretty happy with. Your mileage may vary but this seems to really work! I'll try to summarize...
    THE BOTTOM LINE...
ALL EMAIL ACCOUNTS FORWARD to my main ISP email (earthlink in my case). My single earthlink account then forwards to my aim.com email (IMAP!) account. On the iPhone I have a single email configuration that pulls incoming mail from the aim.com IMAP account and uses the SMTP auth server via earthlink to send outgoing mail. The iPhone always sends as my primary ISP email address which is my "main" email address anyway so that works out well.
Earthlink will send even when on EDGE and off their native network - I would imagine that any ISP that has an SMTP auth server will let you send remotely like this but the only way to know for sure is to test your specific configuration.
On my laptop (PowerBook) I have the same setup. An account that pulls IMAP from aim.com and sends via rarthlink's SMTP auth server.
NOTE: You can also use gmail's SMTP auth server and gmail will allow you to alias which may be convenient for some users.
Some things I found along the way that caused me problems that might save you some hassle:
    - Aforementioned Gmail POP issues and lack of IMAP
    - Gmail won't forward to aim.com no matter how hard you try
    - fastmail.fm (unless I paid) wouldn't let me alias my address
    Some good things:
    - Gmail has great spam filters but in my case it caused an "extra hop" and I figured Earthlink and AIM spam filters would suffice - so I took gmail out of the forwarding equation - so far so good.
    - AIM.com - IMAP - who knew!
So there you have it - hope this helps someone!

Good to know that Gmail will forward to aol.com addresses. I considered setting one of those up instead of the aim account but since things worked out with my ISP account (earthlink) it was all good for me.
Also, in my case, earthlink wasn't really the intermediary...it's always been my primary. Gmail was the intermediary - and although I like their spam filters and they have the best web UI of earthlink or aim - I'm willing to sacrifice not using them for "simplicity!"
I agree that .mac and the iPhone are a good match. I just didn't want to have to spend another $100 a year.
I also agree that a blackberry-style solution would be awesome on the iPhone. Hopefully they are working on this with either Yahoo or Google.
    What I want is simple...IMAP...no ads...and PUSH would be nice...oh yea...and free
Glad some folks found this useful - so my Saturday ignoring the family was not for nothing!

  • How do I download an attachment in an iPhone email to my computer?

How do I download an attachment from my iPhone email to my computer or forward the email so the attachment goes along with it?  Right now it shows as a link that cannot be opened.

How do i change my sender name that is appearing in my email that's incoming? it's correct on my iPhone email and my internet carriers email access site, but not on my imac email. for instance, when someone else gets my email...it says its from "mike Hoak".  I need it to be me (Karen), not one of my random contacts.  not sure how it even happened.

    Hi karen elizabeth I,
I understand that you want to change the full name associated with your email account in Mail on OS X. Here is an article that will help you find this setting and adjust it:
Mail settings you might need from your email provider - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT1277
This setting can be found by going to your Mail Preferences, then the Accounts tab, then selecting your account. Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • Image in an iPhone email signature?

Is there a way to include a logo in an iPhone email signature?

    Hi, all.
I've read you comments; and, here is the solution that works for me.
Prerequisites: Gmail Account, Laptop or Desktop, and access to the Internet.
    1) Upload the picture (JPEG) you want to put in your iPhone email signature.
(You can upload the picture to your Twitter account, BLOGs, Flikr, or whatever website.)
    2) Go on the internet, and search for the picture you loaded to your website, as listed in Step 1.
    3) Click or visit that image from your search tool (e.g., Google or Yahoo!).
    4) When you click on your image, you will get a URL of your image in your address field of your internet browser (e.g., Safari).
    5) Copy that URL.
    6) Sign into your Gmail account, click settings, and get to your email signature box.
    7) Type in your signature text (e.g., name and contact information -- whatever text you want in your signature).
    8) Click on the Insert Image icon in the menu bar in the signature field box.
    9) Paste your link in the URL field; if the link is correct, your image will show up.
    10) Click enter after your image shows.
    11) Click the Save button for your email signature field box.
    12) Compose an email and send it to yourself.
(In your Gmail, you will see your signature in the body of your email.)
    13) Access the email you sent to yourself, via your iPhone.
    14) Copy the selected signature from your email that you sent to yourself.
    15) Access the iPhone email signature page on your iPhone.
    16) Paste the signature, which includes your JPEG image.
    17) Shake your iPhone -- you will get a box that says, Undo Attributes.  Click Yes or Okay to undo attributes.
    18) Exit out of the iPhone email signature page.
When you access your iPhone email to compose an email, you will see your signature, containing your image.
This process works for me: iPhone 6 Plus iOS 8.1.
My signature still shows after one hour and 10 emails, which includes, sent, forward, and replies.
Good Luck.  Ping me if you have questions.

  • English definitions of Japanese words in iPhone email

I sometimes receive email messages written in Japanese (even though my native langauge is American English and that is the language to which I set my iPhone).  I read some Japanese, but need to look up many of the words in these email messages.  It used to be the case that if I selected a Japanese word in an email message and then chose the "define" option the built in dictionary would show me the definition in both English and Japanese.  After upgrading to iOS 6 that functionality was reduced and "define" now only shows the definition in Japanese.  Often that definition has other words I don't know, and as a result it's not helpful in ultimately understanding the word I'm looking up.  How can I change this feature back to the way it was in earlier versions of iOS so that choosing "define" for a Japanese word in an iPhone email message provides the definition in both English and Japanese?

  • IPhone email language support

I had setup the iphone email with gmail, and other pop account. But I find out that they don't displace other language. I had received email from Hong Kong, they wrote it in chinese. iPhone email does not display it. If I use Safari to view the email, it display fine. Is there a fix out there?

I had received email from Hong Kong,

display it. If I use Safari to view the email, it
display fine. Is there a fix out there?
I don't think there is any fix, so you may need to continue using Safari. I believe iPhone should display it correctly as long as the mail contains the proper required "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=" header. If you have a way of viewing this header via another means, it would be interesting to know what it says for the undisplayed email. It would make sense to report this to Apple
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
with a much detail as possible about the emails which are not displaying, especially what kind of program was used to send them.
Unfortunately some mail systems do not create the required headers correctly, and this version of the iPhone lacks any way to fix that manually.

  • Spam blocking for email accounts

Anyone know how to block spam ads from email accounts?  I have both work and personal email accounts--spam only coming in on on personal.  I've installed Lookout Mobile Security, but doesn't stop the 7-10 product ads per day from coming into my inbox.  Verizon tech assistance was courteous and helpful, but wrong.  They're the ones who told me to install Lookout Mobile Security. It may work for antivirus, but doesn't stop spam.

I can only find a way to type a signature for my ipad and iphone email. I need to attach a logo. Does anyone know how to do that?

Not in the stock mail app, not a feature. Look in the app store for an app that will do this.

  • Help please - iPhone email badge won't update

There are many posts, but no solutions. The small, red circle badge on my iPhone that displays the number of unread emails REMAINS despite having read ALL emails on my Mac. The badge ALWAYS indicates that there are several unread emails until I open my iPhone email app, and sit there passively until the app updates itself and removes the badge.
My email account is iCloud (@icloud.com, @mac.com) I have mail on my iPhone set to sync via iCloud, I have "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" "Fetch New Data" set to "Push", and I have iCloud backup set to "on". My unique arrangement makes this perpetual unread badge especially disruptive. I'm begging for a solution, however creative.
    Thank you!

Sounds extreme, and I'm worried about the effect on many other iCloud apps. This seems to be a notorious problem. Take a peak at this thread:
