Spam SMS from Invalid numbers

This has been moved to Android - Samsung Galaxy. Click the link above to view the post.

Hi there "T"... we had the same problem with our Smasung Galaxy note at one stage. The way I got around it was with a neat little app which allows you to block SMS messages in various way including blocking Key Words like Offer; S-X; etc. etc. .http://www.appbrain.com/app/anti-sms-spam-text-filter/org.baole.app.antismsspam

  • Automatic call blocking from invalid numbers/Smart Limits for Wireless changes

It would be nice if your call routing system could be set to AUTOMATICALLY prevent calls from invalid phone numbers from being completed. As an example, I have received calls on my cell phone with the following Caller ID numbers in the last few days: 408-189-xxxx728-727-xxxx The first number uses an invalid exchange (189); the second an inactive area code (728). These were both obviously spoofed numbers that spammers/fraudsters are using. While I get many, many more nuisance calls than these examples each week, it would relieve some of the call volume if your system blocks these calls in the first place. I also subscribe to the Smart Limits call blocking service. 30 numbers is NOT enough to cover all of the spam calls I get. Could this be increased to at least 200? I have already used up all 30 slots in my Smart Limits. I also have over 50 numbers programmed into my phone's phonebook that have been flagged as spammers. Since they can either change the numbers they transmit on a regular basis, or there's just so many of them to begin with, 30 numbers is much too low. Would it also be possible to count and record the date and time when calls have last been blocked and have this information posted with the list of my blocked numbers? It would be useful to see how many times that calls from the number have been received and when the last one was blocked. I could then delete that number from my block list and replace it with one that has had more activity.

    Hi there
Thank you for posting your valuable feedback on our Smart Limits service!
As with everything we offer, we rely on this feedback to provide services that our customers find useful, and to make existing products even better. I agree that adding an automatic block for such calls would be an awesome option, ad would being able to increase the blocked contact limit and see records of those blocked calls! There may be some technical limitations preventing us from adding these features at this time, but we will certainly pass your comments on to the teams that can make this happen!
    Thanks again!

  • Spam sms

blocking "unknown numbers" one by one is no longer enough 'coz i keep getting spam sms from "new" numbers.   is there an app that puts spam sms in a separate inbox just like email. you do not want to "blocK" them coz you may get sms from your friends who are not yet in contacts, so you still want to check that spam  inbox, afterwards you can just "clean" all at once just like in email.   i know ios does not support this feature yet, but is there an app like on android ?
ios needs to have this feature in next version.

I also received this message: "Ihre Nummer gewinnt heute! Gehen Sie auf http://www.apfel.ch.gewinner.us und geben Sie den Code: 5138 ein, um Ihr kostenloses Produkt zu erhalten!" The number sending this was a USnumber: +1 (832) 955 4979.
Maybe someone can help find out down who sends this and how they got my number!
    Thanks

  • Since upgrading to IOS6, some of my contacts (using nokia) no longer receives sms from me, although it shows on my 4s phone that it was sent. I receive sms from these contacts though. These contacts are international numbers. What do I do to fix this? Thx

Since upgrading to IOS6 on my 4s, some of my sms messages (international) are no longer delivered to other phone users (nokia, etc.), even though it shows sent in the message screen. I do however receive sms messages from these numbers. These numbers are correct and I can call or receive calls on the same numbers. I would appreciate if someone can assist me so that my messages can be received again on international numbers. I think all my local numbers are working fine regarding messages. Thanks.

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • How to block Spam text from random number

So, here's the story. I somehow (knowingly or unknowingly) touched & dialled a number from an adult content app and then hung up. Since that day, I keep getting text msgs from different numbers, with lewd text & asking me to call a number (constant across all these sms-es). I block the number using MyVerizon number blocking service; but in 2-3 days I get similar text, asking me to call the same number, from a different number. I keep on blocking this new number (from where the text came) and they keep on sending same text from a different number. This keep on increasing my text bill.
Is there any way to stop this nonsense?
If I reply to one of those texts saying "STOP", as the verizon customer care rep suggested, wouldn't that flag my number as LIVE and they'll start sending me more texts?
How about using sms blocker apps? Again, question there is - do the sms blocker apps just delete spam msgs upon receiving and will I still incur the sms cost in my bill?
Please advice. I'm totally frustrated about this...

As for app I can say that anyway texts are coming to your phone...I have got Call Control installed and I even wrote to their tech support. I got an answer that it is just impossible not to direct texts to your phone. And not one app does this. Yes, you will not see them if the number is blocked, but texts will be there.
In some situations it is even comfortable - if I block someone's number so that he or she doesn't call but still want to read texts)))

how can i send multiple sms from my i phone 4

Turn Group Messaging (instructions in lin that follows) off and send the message to multiple recipients. The result may be dependent on your carrier. If manually keying in numbers rather than using contacts, use the return key after each number. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5760

  • I received a spam message from my iCloud email to my hotmail account - what gives?

So I have my Hotmail email and iCloud (@me.com) account on my iPhone. Suddenly today, I received an email from my @me.com account - to my Hotmail account - this is very odd as I rarely-to-never use my iCloud email account. So I have a feeling either A. it was a genuine security breach or B. it's some weird hoax.
Yes, I know many people spam with names that look similar etc - but I've checked the message headers - and they appear like a legitimate message. Also, I replied to the message - and received it in my @me.com account. I'm not some n00b who calls the help desk - but was wondering if anyone else had this issue today...
I've included the message header below - *note that I've replaced my real email address with 'main_user'

  • How to block spam sms in iPhone for India? Any solution?

I get far more annoyed with text message spam than I do with email spam. My iPhone (unlocked) dings every time I receive a text message, and I check it as soon as I can. I really, really resent the intrusion when it’s spam. And of course there’s the cost. I don’t pay per text message, but when I am in international roaming I do. I searched every nook and cranny on the iPhone to find a way to block the spam, to no avail. Suggestions in different web forum like contacting the service provider (in my case its Vodafone India) did not help. My friends using other mobile service companies like Airtel says the situation is the same. So no point changing service provider. There is one application iBlacklist which I purchased but was a waste of 2 dollars as it does not work in India (see the complaints of the cheated customers in the app store). Is there any iphone application which will allow me to block the spams while still able to receive sms from friends and relatives. I know that my issue is not a new one but honestly, I have tried out everything and have not found an effective solution that works in Indian setting. Many thanks for your suggestions.

I am lucky lucky because up to now I have had very few Spam SMS'.
I give out my cell phone number as little as possible.
The following article may give you some tips about prventing spam SMS:

  • Need to block spam calls from 201-*

I'm getting many spam calls from numbers like 201-340-1009, but the right-ward numbers keep changing.
I'm told this is someone mis-using (or just using) PINGER.  I'd like to just block all
calls from 201 area code (New Jersey, not waiting for Snookie call).  Can I do this?
    If not, any other recommendations?
    Much Thanks,
    Dave

You can also list your cell number(s) on the U.S. government's Do Not Call registry by going to https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx. I believe this helps, as I haven't been getting spam calls or texts (though I never got very many) after giving my registration there 31 days to become effective. If they do persist in calling, this gives you a mechanism to report them. This way you only have to register your number, not all the numbers that might be trying to call you.
And (of course) when we go to that site we learn that "Scammers have been making phone calls claiming to represent the National Do Not Call Registry. The calls claim to provide an opportunity to sign up for the Registry." D'oh!

  • Exclude invalid numbers with sql only?

I'm querying a database with read privileges only via an odbc connector that allows single sql statements only (not pl/sql).
Is there a sql statement that will allow me to exclude invalid numbers in a varchar column? In other words something like the below but using keywords/functions that exist.
select varcharcol from sometable where not is_exception(to_number(varcharcol))
    Thanks in advance
    User592258

    Actually the right one
should bewell, everything depends on the author's understanding of "invalid numbers".
The best way is to catch an exception, cause there could be cases when the same number is valid in one situation and invalid in the other:
    SQL> alter session set NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS='.,';
    Session altered
    SQL> select to_number('234234.23') from dual;
    TO_NUMBER('234234.23')
                 234234.23
    SQL> alter session set NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS=',.';
    Session altered
    SQL> select to_number('234234.23') from dual;
    select to_number('234234.23') from dual

  • Remove Number from Verified Numbers List

How do I remove a phone number from verified numbers list?
Over the several years I've been using Skype I've changed my phone number a few times and I would like to cleanup the SMS cell phone list.
Does anybody know if it is possible to delete previously verified phone numbers?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eduardo.

I want to know the same thing. I think it is rude - and illegal in some countries - to skim phone numbers from cells that link to skype accounts. For one, you have no idea whether the owner of the phone is the owner of the account or if it's just a friend that is letting them sign onto their mobile!
Second, I was extremely upset when you arbitrarily assigned "a new skype number" to my cell number to be associated with my account and force the CALLER ID number to be the cell number; i.e., return calls DO NOT GO THRU SKYPE and may raise our costs!
Skype Managers and Programmers: Modern consumer society dictates the common courtesy of offering your customers the options to "opt in" to what I view as poorly considered decisions that are just plain stupidity. The form of behaviour that you exercised - just telling customers how you are going to steal their information and mess with their accounts - is more reminiscent of communism or dictatorships. Is that where you intend to go?
PS: The fact that this poor gent's post has been here for over a month and you haven't even whispered a response tells me you don't really care. Maybe it's time for some competition.

  • Only receive texts from certain numbers

Aside from having the absolute worst customer support of the various phone services I've used ( I was seriously on the phone for 45 minutes trying various ways to get through the machine to get to a customer service rep. Continuously said, "Sorry we couldn't help you, goodbye." or, "We couldn't connect your call". ) I can no longer receive texts from certain numbers.
I can send texts and people receive them. I can receive texts back from some of these people, however when others try to text me it goes instead to a random person. (Which seems to be the same person their texts are getting forwarded to each time. )
I've turned off the call forwarding with *73, I've updated my software, I've TRIED to get in touch with a customer service representative about my account, but that's seemingly impossible.
Offer me a suggestion or don't. This is my last month with Verizon no matter what. Inconvenience on top of inconvenience on top of inconvenience.
