Spamassassin hangs Solaris 10 ?

I'v been running Solaris 10 x86 in two servers over month now and find out that when running Spamassassin 3.0.2 in a zone it hangs/freezes the whole machine (gobal and all non global zones).
HP Proliant DL360 G3 server just freezes everything after running
Spamassassin in a non global zone, it might work few hours or few days but then server just dies and does not wake up without power touching power switch. No error logs or anything, does not respond keyboard, etc.
Dell PowerEdge 750 server worked fine few days but few minutes ago it
crashed and made self reboot. I found out that there was error messages in a global zone (Spamassassin was running in a non global zone) log file and its says following

in a non global zone can crash the whole machine :(

Hi
I have met same problem as you.
Do you have solution for it?

    Hello -
    Any updated papers and/or steps to follow while installing SpamAssassin in Solaris 10. We can handle the JES setup with SpamAssassin.
    Just don't want to miss anything while building SpamAssassin under Solaris 10.
    Any suggestions will help.
    Thank you,

    Hi AFR,
    There is no reason to believe that the JES4/SA installation under Solaris 10 should be any different.
    Try installing the software and report back any bugs you hit.

  • Solaris 9 and Intel 8086,109a nics

    Due to MySQL Cluster hanging Solaris 10, I have attempted to run Solaris 9 on these Supermicro 6014 Intel servers. The hardware is a little too new, but it mostly works. I can not boot directly off HDD ("prom_panic: Could not mount filesystem") so I am currently using a boot floppy. This will do temporarily.
    However, I had to use an old 3com nic in the server, and it would be much better if I could get the on-board nics to work. I have been attempting to get them to plumb for quite a while without success.
    The meaty details:

    Repeat all commands above, no difference. It just does not want to see it. I must admit I do not know if it is supposed to be pci8086 or pciex8086. Perhaps Solaris 9 can not do pciex?
    I have tried disabling ACPI, and Plug'n'Pray, and all combinations of those two.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    And anyway if you use a Solaris8 DCA that works the samem, since they are not much changes in hardware support for x86, and the important thing is to use further a Solaris 9 Cd to install.
    By the way these IBM x86 boxes (300 an NetVista series from a pair of years ago) are a pain,they don't support el-torito, even with the more recent bios.

The spamd process (which messaging server communicates with) can be compiled on Solaris 10 using the gcc compiler from the source code (which is downloaded from the link you provided).
    Please note if you have a SpamAssassin specific question you should be asking on a SpamAssassin forum.

  • Installation hang on Solaris 10

    I've been trying to install Solaris 10 on a Compaq(HP) ProLiant ML350 G3, so far without success. During the pre-boot Configuration process, I get a few messages about conflicts between a couple of 'devices' identified only as PNP0A00 and PNP0303. I've read elsewhere that these can be safely ignored ... so I've assumed that's correct and let 'em go.
    When the boot-from-CD process begins, the first (and last) text I see is "Loading Driver ata.bef." At that point the CD activity light stops flashing and the machine hangs hard - it has to be physically powered down. I've seen on other sites that this condition will clear up after 10 or 20 minutes, but in my case it has persisted indefinitely.
    This computer, a ProLiant ML350 G3, has 2 hyperthreaded 2.2Ghz Intel Xeon CPUs, 2.8 GB of memory, q Compaq Smart Array 642 SCSI Raid controller with 4 72GB Drives in Raid 5 (seen as two volumes of 16 and 56 GB), Hitachi GCR 8480-B CD-ROM drive (IDE), ATI Rage XL PCI video, standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse, Compaq NC7760 Gigabit ethernet adapter (Broadcom).
    I really need some help here...Any suggestions (short of trying a different machine altogether)?
    Thank in advance,
    jeff

    Hi Philippe,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I installed the whole suite including directory server in a non-defaut install directory. I am wondering if changing install directory will cause issues.

  • How to find out the info regarding Solaris, server hang or shutdown.

    Hi
    As I am handling the Solaris 9 Server remotely.
    As in last week the server has stopped to respond suddenly, we have tried to ping, ssh which was not working. As ultimately we have asked the Data Centre Team to hard reboot the same, to resolve the issue.
    In the same ref I would like to know how we come to know the reason, what caused to reboot the same, i.e . any log file, etc..
    I have check /var/adm/messages, but not found any detail for the same.
    Thanks

    No core files?
    No hope for an answer.
    As you learned in the other Internet forum.
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/how-to-find-out-the-info-regarding-solaris-server-hang-or-shutdown.-621500/
    To get such corefiles analyzed,
    you would need to use your service contract and log a support case with Sun.
    They have the special software tools to do that.

    http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum8/HTML/002149.html http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum8/HTML/001335.html
    Using the thin driver to connect to Oracle 8.1.6 on Solaris 7, every several hundred operations or so will hang for 60 seconds. A stack trace will reveal it is hung on "socket.read()", most frequently when it is trying to close a Statement but not exclusively. After 60 seconds, or if another database operation on a different connection proceeds, it will wake up and continue until the next freeze. This problem occurs with jdk1.2.2 and jdk1.3 (Sun VMs), several different versions of the thin driver (tried classes111.zip, classes12.zip, classes102.zip, downloaded the most recent the other day), and will happen from a remote server or on localhost. A patch upgrade the other day to 8.1.6 seemed to make the problem less frequent but it persists.

  • Solaris Management Console hangs indefinitely

    Hi,
    We have two t5240 servers on which Solaris 10 update 7 was fresh installed. Apparently some patches were applied by the guys who did the initial installation as well.
    My problem is as follows:
    1) I try to start SMC from a terminal (either using X11 forwarding or on local X server)
    2) SMC splash screen appears
    3) SMC shows up (and shows "Configuring the Management Server")
    4) At the bottom left "Starting console","loading toolbox...." and "toolbox successfully loaded..." messages are printed (no error messages either on the console or on the SMC screen)
    5) Following that phase, SMC hangs up indefinitely, progress bar goes left and right showing signs of activity but nothing happens. No login screen shows up.
    Regarding the troubleshooting documents, i have already checked output of /etc/init.d/init.wbem status command.Server just runs fine. But I still feel like I am missing something important. Maybe something related with login services etc.
    I would be glad if anybody could suggest a solution
    Thanks,
    Onur

  • Solaris Management Console hanging

    Did anyone have a similar problem?
    We are running Solaris Management Console 2.1 on Solaris 10 update 3
    It was working fine until recently.
    Now, it hangs forever.
    We have no problem in launching it, loging to using our normal account, and switching to sysadmin role.
    However, it hangs forever every time we try to do some action with the following error message showing on the terminal screen:
    Exception in thread "Thread-21" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/admin/cis/common/ShowCommands
            at com.sun.admin.usermgr.client.users.UserContent$MyListFetch.listAll(UserContent.java:1133)
            at com.sun.admin.cis.common.ListFetch.run(ListFetch.java:284)I am not an expert in Java, but the above message seems to indicate a Sun JRE classpath problem. The symptom in the X-Windows session is always the same: hangs forever when trying to browse users to perform necessary operations, such as adding, deleting, changing groups, and so on.
    We have the following JDK installed
    $ java -version
    java version "1.5.0_14"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_14-b03)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_14-b03, mixed mode)
    $All the Java symbolic links seems OK
    $ ls -l /usr | grep j
    lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           4 Apr 15 14:10 j2se -> java
    drwxr-xr-x   9 root     bin          512 Jun 21  2007 j2se.old

    drwxr-xr-x   4 root     bin          512 Feb  2 02:33 jdk
    $

    I have received the following reply from Sun tech support:
    Hello again Shen,
    After I got your email I went back through your files and did an internal search on the breaking of classpath and java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError error.  I found a case that had similar error messages and the root cause was determined to be the order of the patch installation.
    Here is a clip from that case;
    ===
    The patch install order for 121308-12 and 119313-19 can have a negative affect on SMC.
    Please have the customer try the following workaround:
    patchrm 121308-12 and 119313-19
    In this order, patchadd 119313-19 and then patchadd 121308-12
    ===
    Your netinfo files show that you are only up to 119313-16 on your wbem patch. The latest patch is;
    119313-19
    SunOS 5.10: WBEM Patch
    Date:  Mar/27/2008
    You may find that updating to this patch will make the edit to the /usr/sadm/lib/smc/bin/smc file unnecessary.
    Since your original problems have been resolved, I will go ahead and close the case.  You may want to consider updating to the latest WBEM patch on your next update cycle.
    Thanks,
    Dave
    I guess patch 119313-19 solves the problem.
    I have launched SMC on a few servers that I haven't changed /usr/sadm/lib/smc/bin/smc file.
    SMC didn't hang.
    So, I checked for patch level and they all have patch 119313-19 installed.

  • Solaris 8 on Intel hangs after FDISK

    Target machine is a Compaq Presario 4660, 1 cdrom (HP), 64 megs, pII-300, IDE based HD under 8GB.
    During install, blurb pops up notifing me that FDISK must be run, and a Solaris FDISK partition will be created for me. At this time, I get a FDISK screen. So, I happily create a couple partitions. One running about 10MB and set as x86 boot, the other set to Solaris, and running most of the rest of the disk. There is a 2GB partition for Winblows on the disk.
    After leaving FDISK, everything just hangs. If I reboot, im not prompted to FDISK again, it just hangs. The little cursor keeps spinning around, but nothing happens past 'rpc.bootparams'. If I go to winblows and delete the solaris partitions using winsucks fdisk, it goes back to loading the webinstaller and saying 'Dude! We need to build this Solaris FDISK partition!' at which time the above loop starts again and everything just hangs.
    So what should I do :)
    Thanks
    James

    Hi.
    I don't kmow if those I tell you could serve.
    The problems I have had with the Fdisk partition were solved of this form: I only create ONE Solaris partition, because the multilingual Solais Free release ($100) creates automatically one of 10Mb (if I create 2, one of 10Mb, the Solaris OS creates another ne of 10Mb). After this. it demand me to put a partition higer than 460Mb to swap. When I have done all, the program copies the OS boot on the partition. After we must reboot and the Webstart begins. The problem is that we must reinstall the OS with the 1st intallation disk, because the partition hasn't been formatted by fdisk. Once the new install CD has run, the Solaris take the global Solaris partition and ask to format it. We say yes. after that we can instal the rest of the OS. (It happens in the spanish instalation, but I think that the rest will be samely). Sorry for my english.

  • WLS6.1 hanging on Solaris- and SIGQUIT doesn't work

    Hi,
    We are experiencing a problem that looks like a deadlock when our server is under load (using WLS6.1SP2, Solaris 8 and the 1.3.1 JVM supplied with WLS). After processing many requests, the server hangs and CPU usage drops to 0%. Unfortunately the standard means of getting a thread dump (sending a SIGQUIT with kill -3 or Ctrl-\) does nothing. The problem also occurs if WebLogic is running under debug (using
    -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=none -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5555) but alas the debugger hangs when trying to pause the server after this deadlock). It appears as though the server is not accepting any requests (including administrative requests from the console) but this doesn't seem to be due to thread starvation as CPU usage is 0%.
    The only output we can get is from truss, which seems to indicate no activity at all until the SIGQUIT is received. It seems to register the SIGQUIT but it looks as though it is not being processed.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Kevin.

    We found a solution to this problem, relating to the threading model that the JVM
    uses.
    Have a look at http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/threads/threads.html for more
    details.
    The default threading model on Solaris 8 is many-to-many (threads to LWPs) with
    thread-based synchronisation. After playing with various threading models, we
    found that the best was one-to-one with the alternate thread library. This is
    the default provided by Solaris 9, but you can also tell Java to use this with
    older versions of Solaris by putting the following line in your start command
    prior to executing WebLogic:
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/lwp:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    Apologies to anyone who was looking for an answer to this beforehand: I should
    have replied to this newsgroup back in September!

    If you are not able to capture a JVM thread dump, then the next best
    thing would be to capture several "/usr/proc/bin/pstack pid" C-level
    thread dumps. This information may enable BEA Support to help suggest
    potential work arounds. Depending upon the data in the pstack output,
    you may also wish to open a support case with Sun.

    I had the same symptom from a multithreaded C++ application
    until I added the -mt option to the CC command when linking.
    You are supposed to use it for compiling, too.

  • SAP installation hangs while installation EHP4 ready on Solaris-Oracle

    Hi,
    I am in a process of installing EHP4 READY on Solaris , with ORacle database.
    at 13 Phase CREATE DATABASE, the installation hangs up
    when i check the log    ora_sql_results.log  it says
       SP2-0310: unable to open file "ora_scr_tmp.sql"
    not getting any clue  i have added group sapinst to user orasid, and also gave full permission to the file
    "ora_scr_tmp.sql  "
    still no luck,
    please advise.
    Regards,
    Irfan..

    Hello Irfan,
    SP2-0310: unable to open file "ora_scr_tmp.sql"
    There are 3 possibilities...
    1. Users and there Group membership is incorrect.
    2. ORACLE_HOME directory permissions are not set or incorrect.
    3. Profile parameters are not set..
    Check this as below:
    1. Check the Users and Group membership as below:
    Users -----------> Primary Groups
    <SID>adm ------> sapsys,oper,dba,sapinst
    ora<SID> -------> dba,oper,sapinst
    2. Check that ORACLE_HOME has 755 permissions and ora<sid>:dba should be the user and owner. You can set it with below command:
    # chmod 755 -R /oracle
    # chown ora<SID>:dba -R /oracle
    3. Check if you defined ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variable for user ora<SID>.
    Regards.
