Spamassassin odd error messages

I'm puzzled by this. Starting about 11 days ago, I've gotten the following errors in my procmail log file.
hostname: illegal option -- -
usage: hostname [-s] [name-of-host]
[64745] warn: auto-whitelist: open of auto-whitelist file failed: auto-whitelist: cannot open au
towhitelistpath /Users/XXX/.spamassassin/auto-whitelist: Inappropriate file type or format
Log files indicated that this problem did not exist before 12/28/09, and now it pops up anytime procmail calls spamassassin.
The system is running a fully updated 10.5.8. There is no record of updates between 12/20/09 and today according to /var/log/install.log*. Spamassassin is 3.2.5 and hasn't been updated in ages.
I tried restoring an old version of auto-whitelist, but it didn't make a difference, as the white list hasn't changed in several months; however, removing the whitelist file and letting a new one get started did make that error go away.
Any ideas as to what's going on here?
thanks

I spoke to (don't remember if it was an ATT guy) told me that ATT seems to have problems with some servers.
Boy do they ever, I think there's maybe 2 worse ISPs in the whole world.
Have you heard of this kind of policy? Do you think I'll need to do that?
Yes, but it's really their problem & you shouldn't have to pay. Only you can decide if you need to do it, but I'd bet Dollars to Donuts it'll be more money down the drain.

  • Ipod not recognized, getting odd error message

I've seen this posted a few times, but without any hints as to how to fix the problem.
I have a 4G 20GB iPod, just over a year old (meaning, no warranty), that has worked fine until this morning. I turned it on, and all of a sudden, it kept skipping through all of my songs, and wouldn't respond to the pause, play, etc. buttons.
I attached it to my computer via FireWire, and I keep getting this odd error message: "You have inserted a device that has no volumes that OSX can recognize" It asks me if I want to ignore, initialize, or eject the disc. I've been having it ignore it, or eject it (staying far away from initialization). After I ejected it, I noticed that all the songs on my iPod are now missing.
I reset the iPod, which didn't do much, and now I can't restore it, because neither the computer or iTunes recognizes my iPod. It shows up in Disk Utility, but I'm not entirely sure how to proceed.
What happened to my iPod? I can't seem to find anything in the Apple support pages that seems similar to my situation. Any suggestions on how to get the thing to work again?
Edit: I am using iTunes version 4.9; I have not updated to 5.0

This is the most frustrating tech trouble!
The same thing has happened to my iPod. It worked fine, then one day I plug it in and it says "Disc inserted is unreadable by this computer". As far as I remember, I didnt' update anything, make any changes, or adjust any settings to any of my hardware. SO WHAT HAPPENED?? And now I can't restore or doctor the iPod hardware bc my computer won't recognize it as actual hardware...
pleeeeease help, if anyone has a way to fix this.
The weirdest part, is that when I look at the information of the "unreadable hardware" it describes it with all the information, like how many gigs are available, how much space is used up, latest updates etc. So it can transfer information, but it pretends its unreadable? i dont understand.

  • Odd error message - Can't save new Pages docs

I use Pages a lot and know it pretty well. But today I got an odd error message I have never seen. It is stopping me from using Pages.
Today, when I attempted to create a new Pages document and save it to a folder in my Documents folder (or to my Desktop), I get an instant error message saying, "The file ‘FileName.pages' doesn’t exist." (see below).  In effect, Pages will not allow me to save a new file. I can open older Pages files, edit them and save them.  I just cannot create a new file and save it. I have restarted Pages and my computer multiple times with no effect on this message.
    Anyone dealt with this before?

There you are, Pages 5 can be relied on to not be relied on.
Not much comfort for your previous file though.

  • Odd error message when attempting installation of iTunes 8

When I try to install the iTunes 8 (the most recent version), I get an odd error message and am unable to successfully complete the installation. This is the message:
    Could not access network location
    %USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
This message is then followed by Retry or Cancel; Retry has not worked at all with the same error message popping up. There is no error number that I can see. After I finally hit cancel out of frustration, this message shows up:
The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime.
I think that the first message occurs during the program's attempt to do QuickTime before the iTunes. I tried downloading and upgrading QuickTime separately, but that was also unsuccessful. I do now have an earlier version of QuickTime on my computer, but that is only because I recently added some software (Rosetta Stone to be exact) that requires the 5.0 version and downloads it automatically. I also have tried the troubleshooting tips on the Apple site.
My computer is a Dell, with Windows XP Home Edition. I do have the second Service Pack from Microsoft, and should have all of the latest updates. Please help! I'm getting really frustrated with my computer and have no idea on what to do next.

When you get a message about not being able to access a network location you usually need the Microsoft installer cleanup utility.
    Here is a method:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Odd error message

I am getting an odd error message with iTunes:
+The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.+
Any ideas why I am getting this message. My iPod never had problems before, and I am the only one who uses the computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I too have seen this error message now and again. (Right now as a matter of fact).
Doesn't appear to have any adverse affects on my music library but with over 8,000 songs I may never notice the problems.

  • Recieving an odd error message...

For the past few days, i have been running into an odd error message whenever i try to update my iPod through iTunes.
The message is "Attempting to copy to disk "Harout's(my name) IP failed. The disk could not be read from or written too."
This always happens during the update for my iPod. It gets to about 10% updated then pulls this message out. I've tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, with the newest version, got the newest iPod updater, and even restored my iPod and tried it again and nothing has helped.
Do you guys have any idea on what i can do?

  • N95 - odd error message

I have an N95 with Ver 20.0.015, and in the last day or so I have been getting an odd error message on start up - can someone suggest what is going on?
Very soon after turning on, the system says Installing... and then a message come up saying 'Untrusted software found on memory. To install, go to Application Manager'
I have looked at Appl Mgr, and there is an entry 'e14a45b8.sis' that says Not Installed, which is, I suspect, the guilty party.
Is this likely to be the problem, and does anyone know why I should not Remove this?

    Hi jcaswell
v20.0.015 seems more intolerant of older applications than previous versions. In my case there was an eight numeral .sis on my memory card which was "Not installed" and produced this message at every start-up. Fortunately 'Googling" established that this was early Nokia "Podcasting" application which as it is now part of the firmware, could safely be deleted; now I no longer get this message on start-up. In Application Manager if you click on this application > options, you should be able to get more information about it's identity.

  • Odd error message given when saving a file to a secondary drive.

I am running Photoshop CS3 Extended on a Windows XP Pro, with SP2 installed. The computer has two hard drives installed. On all previous versions of Photoshop I've been able to save a file to my 2nd hard drive easily by typing "D:\image.jpg"
When I try to do the same in Photoshop CS3 I get an error message that says "could not save as d:\d:\image.jpg because the file name was invalid"
So I have to hit SHIFT+CTRL+S then type "d:\" and then type a file name, making it a 2 step procedure to save a file now. If I don't follow this procedure, and just type the filename it saves the file on drive C:\ in a subdirectory.
Obviously it's a path error, but I've never had a problem with a straight out command "D:\image.jpg" on previous versions and looking at the Preferences options or doing a search for this error didn't shed any light on this issue. Thanks for any feedback on this problem.

i "could not save as d:\d:\image.jpg because the file name was invalid"
It seems that the "explorer" function is already set to drive D:\, as evidenced by the error message. If the file came from D:\, or you have been saving to D:\, then you will not type "D:\" into the file name, as both the ":" and the "\" are forbidden characters.
As a test, Open a file from C:\, then Save to C:\. Now, Do a Save_As and try typing "d:\image.jpg." It should do this, without the error message.
Just a note: you may have simplified the path for your post, but otherwise, it's not a good practice to save any file into the root of a drive - always do a folder. If this was for done as an example only, then ignore my caveat.

  • Missing older files; odd error message

Some old files from iTunes are missing. An error message pops up occasionally, saying, "iTunes library cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."  For security, I normally run my pc on a "standard" account and switch to an administrator account when installing, cleaning, etc. Surely iTunes is not configured so as to require only pc administators to download material? How to resolve this problem?

  • Odd error message on startup

I keep receiving an iDisk error message each time I turn on the computer: It reads: There is a problem deleting the file "About your iDisk.rtf".
Further text reads: you do not have permission to delete this file, you can check your permissions in the info window in the finder
There's nothing in my trash file and I can't imagine why this file would have been deleted in the first place. What'd I do? By the way, we have multiple accounts on this computer, only two of the 4 have permissions to add/delete etc and the other trash folder is empty as well.
    Thank you!

    Good Morning ekpjc!
First of all, don't worry. You haven't deleted anything.
I was having this message come up frequently for the first few days following the transition to mobile me. Others were as well. There is nothing in your trash? Okay... do you shut down your computer or just put it in sleep mode? If you haven't shut it down, why don't you do that. After a bit, turn it back on and you will probably have stuff in your trash. Drag it out and open it so you can verify what it is. Is it stuff from iWeb?
    Read here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2267.html
This is what I did. And then after carefully checking to make sure the files weren't important, I went ahead and deleted them. This happened for some time ( a week or so) everytime I would shut my mac down for the night and then turn it back on. I just kept deleting. It eventually stopped. I hope this helps you out.

  • Odd error message that started after update to Mountain Lion

Ever since updating to Mountain Lion, I get this error message every now and then:
Nothing in particular seems to cause it, and there isn't a server to which I'm trying to connect. My computer is a mid 2010 MacBook Pro
Can someone tell me what this means in the first place and how I can fix the problem?
    Thanks!

Open the Time Machine pane in System Preferences. If it shows that Time Machine is ON, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner, if necessary, to unlock it. Scroll to the bottom of the list of backup drives and click Add or Remove Backup Disk. Remove all the disks, then add them back. Quit System Preferences. Test.

  • I Can't Send Mail, Odd Error Message

I can't send any mail, hopefully this is an easy fix that I'm missing. I checked to make sure my outgoing mail settings were correct. I've only just recently set everything up, and it was working fine. I sent a few emails with files attached to my sister, and I received this error message before I could send all of the files:
"This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The sender address [insert address here] was rejected by the server"
Any ideas? I appreciate any help one might be able to give.

Could you check if outgoing mail server is proper set, including authorization?

  • Get an odd error message submitting half-day vacations

    Hi,
I've written a web interface tool (php+saprfc) where employees can request vacation dates. Once the request is committed, the entry is forwarded to SAP.
I use the BAPI_PTMGRATTABS_MNGCREATION which has the following Input fields:
    ABS_ATT_TYPE
    EMPLOYEENUMBER
    SIMULATE
    HRABSATT_IN which contains
    FROM_DATE, TO_DATE, START_TIME, END_TIME, ABS_ATT_HOURS, ALL_DAY_FLAG and PREVIOUS_DAY
My functions is working properly for whole day vacations, in this case only ABS_ATT_TYPE is set to '0100', FROM_DATE and TO_DATE to the accordings dates all other vars remain empty.
But now I try to implement the half-day vacations. I set the following values:
    ABS_ATT_TYPE = '0110'
FROM_DATE and TO_DATE have the same date value
    START_TIME = '080000'
    END_TIME = ''
    ABS_ATT_HOURS = '4,13'  (germany decimal separator)
ALL_DAY_FLAG = ''  (here, I'm not sure if this should be a 'X' or something)
Now I get the following error message (I've no idea how to translate this german error message, I hope someone else can provide this?)
E 12 Für An-/Abwesenheitsart 0110 sind nur untertägige Sätze erlaubt
Could be something like: 'For absence type 0110 only subsurface records allowed' ??
    I really appreciate any ideas.

I doubt myself that 'subsurface' is the correct translation of 'untertäig'
But your were absolutely right with your idea of the 'wrong' starting time.
Just tried '090000' and now it works. Things can be soo easy )
I left the END-TIME empty assuming the value would be calculated automatically. But the entry in SAP shows 09:00 - to 17:00 0,88% of a day. I guessed passing the ABS_ATT_HOURS value would be enough.
I'm going to play with the parameters to figure out which are neccessary in which case.
Thanks for bringing me back on the right path.

  • An Odd Error Message

I'm getting this error message whenever I try to disconnect my iPod. The thing is, I can shut off iTunes without getting the typical "Are you sure because your iPod is downloading something or other?" message.
    http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o305/ZarrocandThorn/ipoderror.jpg
I get that. I don't want to mess up my iPod, it's my life!
Please hurry with answers, I can't sleep without knowing that my iPod will be okay and I can keep adding stuff to it.

Hold ctr-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select them and hit the End Process button. Close the Windows Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method.
If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option.
McAfee ActiveScan security software also can cause a problem, and if you have this you might want to try turning it off and see if the iPod then ejects correctly.
If all else fails shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.

  • 2G Touch Gives Odd Error Message

I keep getting an error message with my 2G (I believe its the second gen) when I try sync'ing it. The system seems to go through the cycle of adding podcasts and apps, but at the end it says it can not sync because "the file can not be found". It doesn't say what file or give any other hints. I've upgraded the system to Snow Leopard and gotten all the updates, and sync'd it since.
