Spammer in a forum thread.

I am not a spammer. I hit reply to messages and happened to reply the same thing to different people. As a new forum user, I was under the impression that replying to an individual's post would go to the individual. Sorry if I offended or annoyed anybody. As for the bad link to Apple Feedback, it inadvertedly occured when I reposted my Facebook post where the link looked clean and I didn't know it would bring you to FB and not the clearly labeled Apple.com/feedback/iPhone link that I posted here. My intent is to get as many folks as possible to use the feedback method that Apple prefers so that the manual sync problem can be resolved.
According to Apple Communities Support Staff, my message was taken down AND my question to the community was removed NOT because I've repeatedly replied to individual posters but because: "Recently you posted a poll or petition in Apple Support Communities. We are including a copy of your message at the end of this email for your reference. We understand the desire to share experiences in your topic, "Re: How to sync an iPhone with an iMac, on Maverick? ," but because these posts are not allowed on our forums, we have removed it."
Since when is reiterating what Apple's Executive Customer Service told me (engineers will only fix the manually sync option that has been removed with upgrade to Mavericks when there are enough complaints / feedback to catch their attention) considered a poll or a petition?? Just because I asked that my message be shared? Seems to me that perhaps the handlers don't want an influx of feedback on this topic.
This forum is lovely but this is a circular conversation and nothing will change until Apple get the message loud and clear through the iPhone feedback website. Exec Service said to select the feedback category Design and Ease of Use so that an abundance of the same complaint could be readily tallied. This needs to go viral.

Please forgive me for asking a general question, but does anyone know if you can attach files to forum threads? If you can, how does one do that?

Why can't i access forum threads-- everythread must be opened all of a sudden from showthread.php (?whats that)

my operating system is ubuntu
this just started. well for a couple hours i was getting repeated message for a couple of hours in terms i didn't understand, pure computer talk, from who? i don't know. i did download some email photos but did not save them. can't tell you what it said. but everything was normal at the forum. they just did a minor upgrade there in the last few hours tho also.
i put the machine to sleep for an hour or so. got back on line and can't access the forum threads. i get a window that says:

what should firefox do with this file?

I don't know much about samba, but I have had very similar problems with netbios in windows, I find it to be very unreliable and I think you would be better off with ftp, but that's just my opinion. Apart from that, are you sure you have the necessary ports opened, and so do they? And you might need a line in /etc/hosts.allow

Workflow to print forum threads

Hi everyone,
Is there a workflow i could set up to print forum threads (either hard copies or PDF)?
I'd like to navigate to a page (say http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=936&start=0 ), have Automator navigate to the threads on the current page, and print the threads to a PDF doc.
I know that sounds a bit ambitious... but is it possible?

Yes this is possible.
Here is the start of the workflow:
1) Get Specified URLs - if you go to the website of interest in Safari then you can easily add this by hitting the Current Safari page button
2) Get Link URLs from Webpages
3) View Results - This is not necessary but nice as it will show you that you have picked up all of the URLs to the individual forum threads
4) Display Webpages
Then you have to decide whether you want to print as a webpage or create a pdf.
The webpages could be printed using a Run AppleScript action which tells Safari to print each page.
A pdf could be generated by manipulating the print dialog in Safari through the "Save as PDF" command of the PDF button at bottom of dialog or installing a Virtual printer like CUPS-PDF.

Because I am following a link from a topic to which I am subscribed. If 8-10 other forums I participate in can, many of which at not technology related whatsoever, then I 'm sure Apple can figure it out.
Follow the logic here...
1. On my Mac I receive an email notifying me of a response to a topic to which I am subscribed in Apple Discussions.
2. I click the link in the email in MAIL.app, this discussion for example 'To view or respond to this message, visit <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7019288#7019288> '
3. This launches SAFARI and opens the thread in APPLE's discussion forum website.
4. I want to reply to the discussion.
5. I click 'Login'.
6. I am taken to the login page.
7. I login.
8. I am redirected to the main Apple Discussion page, http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa NOT the page I was viewing prior to logging in.
To get back to that page AND be logged in I can either...
Switch back to mail.app and re-click the discussion topic link
OR
Hit the BACK button twice in Safari then hit RELOAD to refresh and get the Apple Discussions site to realize I am now logged in.
There are two simple solutions that would also result in less work for Apple's servers, not requiring them to needlessly reload multiple pages.
1. Redirect me back to the forum thread I was viewing after I login.
2. Provide a login WITHIN the page am viewing.
As I said I probably subscribe to 8-10 forums, none of which have built the hardware (Mac Pro) or software (Mac OS 10.5.2, Mail.app and Safari) yet they ALL are able to do both or the above.
Somehow Apple is not able to do either even though they built the hardware AND the software.

Post editing and search forum thread?

If a post is edited, shouldn't the forum thread be bumped to the top?
Is it possible to search inside a forum thread? If not, a feature like that would make it easier to find what you're looking for.

Well I think that function is more for correcting typo's, so bumping the thread to the top would be kind of undesirable. Anything other than correcting a typo, then you could probably just post again in the thread.

Simply use the "watch forum thread" Icon and go into the "Your Control Panel" and make sure that your "watch forum threads" check boxes are turned on.

My Forums Threads "selected forums" filters should be links

First of all, let me say, "Nice changes in today's new forum software!" There are many improvements. Keep up the good work.
I think the "selected forums" chips in the left bar should function as links to the individual forums. Right now they are nothing but labels and X's to remove the filter. Making them a link too would be useful. They are really
bold looking now (perhaps too much so) and they draw my attention a lot. So it makes me want to investigate particular forums by clicking on them. But that doesn't happen because they aren't links.

You can clear the other blocks provided that there's a way to get them back.
Either by navigating back (back button in browser) or by restoring the filter (perhaps by navigating to "My Forums Threads" again.)
Note: What I would not want to see is to have My Forums get reset to just that one forum permanently. That would be totally wrong.
I was thinking it would literally just be a hyperlink to the forum. (the ^/threads link of the particular forum that corresponds to the chip. Just like all the forum names link in "My Forums" page.)

Is there a way to host images from an iPad to then post into a forum thread?

I have been using Internet forums on my laptop for a few years, and now use my iPad.
However I cannot post images into a thread using my iPad.
For example I will take a photo using my iPhone or iPad and I then have to email it to my wife's laptop.
I then have to host the photo using say photobucket, then paste the IMG code into the thread.
Then it's back into my iPad to continue the discussion.
Is there a way or an app out there which can allow you to select images from the library on my iPad for hosting?
Then generating IMG codes to post in a thread straight from my iPad without having to use a computer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a PhotoBucket app. Also there are photo apps that will let you edit your photos on your iPad and upload them to some hosting site like photobucket or some other.
I use PhotoForge2 on my iPad. It provides a variety of sharing methods. Another app that might work for you is PhotoGene.

Why can version 3.16.6 have problems displaying more than nine posts in a forum thread when IE7 does so with ease?

In a forum that I have been using for the last several years, I posted a problem. When I tried to reply to post #9 in that thread, my post would not appear. I tried again and still my post did not appear.
I then opened IE7, navigated to that forum and thread. IE7 displayed all 13 posts.
I have no problems adding to long threads in other forums. If it helps you, I am including a link to the thread I'm having problems with.

The slowness may be caused by background processing after the library update. Are you shooting RAW?
Also, where is your iPhoto library stored? In your Pictures folder or on an external drive?

You may need to repair your iPhoto Library.
Run the iPhoto library first aid tools and use the options "Repair permissions" and "Repair database".
To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the options-command keys while double clicking your iPhoto Library.
Then select "Repair Database". Repeat with "Repair Permissions". If this does not help, back up your iPhoto Library and use the option "rebuild".

Making a forum thread/section hidden from anyone NOT logged in.

I was wondering if it would be possible to set the forum software to hide a specific thread/section from anyone not logged in.
Specifically I had in mind the email signup thread here. It would be nice to hide at least this specific thread from anyone NOT logged in, so as to keep the spam bots from harvesting the emails ..... Just a thought Not sure if this forum software allows threads to be hidden or just entire catagories.

If you already HAVE posted your entire email address....... i suggest editing your own post and removing the "@archlinux.us" part. Just a friendly tip
in the thread ..... TWICE. If people don't follow the suggestions, then the spam will be their OWN problem I think the thread fits in community better than anywhere else, so I say just leave it there. Eventually I might setup some sort of form to automate the whole process, I've got about half of it done actually, but for now this seems to work best for me.

Jive Forum Thread Settings

Hello All,
Currently in our portal environment, we implemented the Jive forums. And the settings for the each thread in a forum as follows below.
1) Number of correct answers the owner can make is = > 1
2) Number of of helpful answers for each thread => 2
I found the option where we can set/increase the Number of of helpful answers for each thread => 3 or 6 etc. By navigating "Expert features " .
But, here in my case , i need to increase the way of making the correct answers to more than 1 , may ( 5 to 10).
Could you please explain me , is there any settings where i can make the changes or, these changes can be done through the development.
