Try setting the keyboard to Spanish and typing a spanish word in Notes, then do select, define, manage

  • Add spanish-english dictionary

Does anyone know how to add a Spanish-English dictionary to the dict app in MBP Lion 10.7.5? I don't mind paying, but I'd like to be able to access it offline and with that 3-finger double feature while reading online. Thanks for the help!

Thanks. I have Ultralingua, but time and again I have found that it does not have the words I need. I think I need a dictionary with a lot more words, as my Spanish is fairly fluent. I often look a word up in Ultralingua, can't find it, and then have to open OS 9 and open my old Richmond dictionary, which always seems to have the word I need. But that process is very slow, and when a get a new computer (soon) I won't have OS 9 any more.

  • Spanish-English dictionary for Mac?

Can anyone recommend a really good Spanish-English dictionary that will work on the latest Macs? I have the old Richmond Electronic Dictionary, which I love, but it only works on OS 9. It had not just definitions, but sample sentences using the words, and it always has the words I seem to need. I downloaded UltraLingua, which works with OS X, but it has many fewer words, and doesn't provide the sample sentences to illustrate usage. Would appreciate any recommendations.

  • Is there a way to install a Spanish-English dictionary in Adobe Reader for iPad?

I read and study a lot of PDFs that are in spanish. I come across a word here and there that I need to quickly translate as I would need to define an english word. There are different language dictionaries available to download within the Adobe Reader app that allow for one to highlight and define. I would like to highlight and translate.

  • German - English Dictionary to translate words in iBooks

Anyone know of a way to install a German - English dictionary that can be used to define words within iBooks?  This functionality is in Kindle, would be useful to have it for my German iBooks as well.

No, Apple does not provide the kind of dictionary you want, and there is no way for users to add any so that they will work that way.  But you can ask for it at
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
There may be other ebook reader apps (e.g. Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, Sony) which have this kind of feature, but you would have to check them yourself.

  • English dictionary has disappeared with mountain lion (a complaint from Spain)

    Hi,
I'm a Spanish Mac user and was a fond user of the excellent built-in English dictionary that came with Lion and with former operating systems. A couple of days ago I installed the new Mountain Lion and noticed that the former English dictionary had been replaced by a school-level Spanish dictionary. I felt betrayed and dumped, as I encountered no warning during installation that this was going to happen. And of course the Mountain Lion reviews I had read in the past weeks did not mention this problem, as it does not affect users from English-speaking countries. Has anyone experienced the same problem? What can I do? I have tried to recover and install a former version of the Dictionary app, but I haven't succeeded yet.
Besides, since I installed Mountain Lion Mail has become so slow that I now prefer checking email on the website. The connection between Mail and the new Address Book (now called Contacts) is also incredibly slow. In sum: the bunch of new iPad-inspired applications that are included in Mountain Lion definitely come with too many disadvantages. Sincerely, I wouldn't recommend to install it, unless these inconveniences are solved. Please, Apple, solve them quickly. This is just a disgrace.
    Best,
    Marta

That is not the case for any standard installation.  Everyone should have all the old dictionaries, plus Spanish, German, and Chinese.
Have you gone to the Preferences of Dictionary.app and made sure all the boxes are checked?

  • Does it have other-than english dictionary?

    hello
i wonder if Leopard comes with more other-than-english-dictionary...
Mac Dictionary is very useful because one can simply press ctrlcmmdD under any app and have words looked up... so i'd like to have other than english words looked up quickly...
or if anyone knows of other 3rd party dictionaries working with Mac's dictionary... i'd appreciate your help...
    thanks

With the data I have I think English is nor the first either the second in terms of first language, but combining those people who speak it as second language to people who use it as first, it cames to the second-first position. In terms of people who have to use it, English is, by far, the first, as in the internet (English-Chinese-Spanish) and in terms of influence (English-French-Spanish). For me, as many other spanish people, is a great help to have a English dictionary (a good one) included in the OS. Maybe it's more useful than having the spanish one, but it would be a good step to integrate some other like RAE of Spanish, and I think it's not dificult, since the dictionary is done, as the Oxford one.
A note: Chinese is not only Mandarin but the amalgam of dialects derivated called standard Chinese.

  • Using iphone 5c. Having trouble with the built in dictionary. I need to download japanese to english dictionary every time when I want to use it. English to english dictionary works perfectly.

  • Ibooks how reload dictionary, ibooks how reload dictionary

dear comunity i've lost the difine function in ibook due to lost dictionary how can i reload it?

Only English and Japanese dictionaries are currently built-in to iBooks, and only Apple can change that. You can either just manually look up items, have a separate German-to-English dictionary app on the iPad (assuming that there are some in the store) which you can switch it into when you want to look something up, or you could try leaving feedback for Apple and maybe in a future update it'll be added : http://www.apple.com/feedback

  • How can I integrate add-ons into a PDF (Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox), such as Babylon English Dictionary?

How can I integrate the Fox add-ons into a PDF (Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox), such as Babylon English Dictionary? Many PDF do support my add-ons. BTW, the PDF in question is one that I have uploaded to my web site.

Babylon would need to support Adobe Acrobat for that to happen.

  • Looking for a Bigger English Dictionary

I use 9.2.2, with AppleWorks 6.2.8, and am looking for a larger, English dictionary that I can put in my Dictionaries folder.
I've looked at after-market products, but they don't work well with 9.2.2.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have already been to VersionTracker. All the stuff for AW is after-market, and does nothing better than AW already does, when it comes to adding dictionary power.

  • English - english dictionary doesn't work

I have Firefox 32 and Windows 7. My add-ons manager says that English - English Dictionary 1.5 is installed, but it isn't working. There's no "ABC" icon and clicking a word does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

You may try to uninstall and get the latest version. If you are still experiencing the problem, please try any other dictionary alternatives

  • Canadian English Dictionary

Does anyone know the procedure for installing the Canadian English dictionary in FrameMaker 9.0? We were able to install it successfully in 7.2 and 8.0, but the same procedure does not work for 9.0. The procedure we followed for 7.2 & 8.0 is as follows:
    Modify installation
Scroll down to Canadian dictionaries and click the dropdown arrow
Choose the "remove" option (third option indicated with red X)
Then run the installer again, this time choosing the first option under Canadian dictionaries.
Open a new document, type "hoser" or "pogey" (specific Cdn words), and run the spellcheck to make sure that these words don't get picked up.
We were instructed to change the regional and language options settings to Canadian English in the Control Panel. However, the dictionary is still not working properly.

    That is strange.<br />
    I can't reproduce it on a en-US installation.
Which locale do you have installed?
The en-US locale that has its own dictionary or a en-GB locale that doesn't come with a dictionary?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
