%SPANTREE_VLAN_SW-2-MAX_INSTANCE: Platform limit of 64 STP instances

One of our user not able to connect to network and when I see the log the following message displayed. As far as I know that we can run maximum of 64 spanning tree instances. Hence do you any solution to avoid this problem. Please advice?.
Device:-
2950G Switch
Please provide good solution and documentation where I can find more information on the same.
%SPANTREE_VLAN_SW-2-MAX_INSTANCE: Platform limit of 64 STP instances exceeded. No instance created for VLAN918 (port Fa0/12).

The following information have been requested to you.
Also, you know Cisco TAC Engineer recomended that if upgrade the switch software then we will able to have 250 STP instance and provded me the following links. Please need your valuable inputs.

  • Limit the number of instances

    Hello all,
I have been reading a lot of articles on the internet the last days on how to limit the number of instances for an asynchronous ftp process. I connect to an FTP every hour and transfer all the .xml file that are available. After FTP there is some more processing that has to be done.
For the moment when the customer uploads 20 files to his FTP, 20 instances of the same process are started. I want to limit this number to 5. I have been playing with all the possible parameters found on the internet and have been applying all the rules (like sum of workerbean and invokerbean ... sum of dspMaxThreads of all domains), but none of them worked !
I have put this process out of my production environment for the moment until I know how to control the number of instances.
The version I'm using is 10.1.3.3.0
If I don't get this solved I will be upgrading to 10.1.3.5 but I have no guarantee that the upgrade will do the trick ....
    Home someone can help ...
    Thanks,
    Best regards,

  • 64 STP Instance limitation

I am fixing to run into my 64 STP instance limitation on my Fiber MAN composed of 5 fiber Gig-E rings. From what I have been reading, it says you can prevent this from happening by setting allowed lists on the trunk ports of switches that have used up their allocation of spanning-tree instances, but from my testing this does not work. Even though I block all the unused vlans on all of my trunk ports, and it only shows those STP instances I have allowed being forwarded or blocked on those trunk ports, I still can't create another spanning-tree instance. From my testing, it seems that I have to turn off STP for those vlans all together, in order for me to create another. This is fine, but just curious if there was another way, considering it seems kind of dirty and will require alot of config updating on all my 30-40 switch's.
One other question.. they make an updated IOS version for the 3508XL that supports more than the 64 instances, maybe even supports MISTP?

I can't do that. I do alot of TLS/802.1Q-in-Q implementations. I need alot of these STP instances to span my entire Gig-E backbone, where by all my switch's in my entire MAN recognize certain layer2 segments.
So, as you can see, I can't break them up with a Layer 3 device, unless I was doing some sort of Layer 3 MPLS to get my customer site-to-site connections to work, which I am not.
Right now, my only option is to block all my manaagment STP instances on all my trunk links, freeing up instances for my 802.1Q-in-Q customers. Once I do this, we will upgrade all of our PE switch's with switchs that support more than 64 instances of STP and support MST or MISTP.
So, back to my original question... Is there any other way to stop the STP instances on my trunk links, besides disabling unused STP instances for all those VLAN's on my switch's, because just blocking them with allow-lists doesn't work?

  • How to limit the number of instances of an MDB?

    Hi,
I am using jboss 4.0.5 AS, and we have an mdb which listens to the jboss's jms queue. We are using ejb 3.
we are configuring MDB like this
    @MessageDriven(name="LongProcessMessageBean", activationConfig = {
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="destinationType", propertyValue="javax.jms.Queue"),
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="destination", propertyValue="queue/examples/OurSampleQueue")
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="maxSession", propertyValue="1")
When there are multiple messages to the queue at the same time, it is creating multiple instances of the MDB, i want to limit the MDB instances to 1 ( I used maxSession=1, but it is not working).
When the messages to the JMS queue are increasing, after certain point it is saying that the unable to allocate memory....threadpool is full.
    any suggestion would be appreciated............
    thanks.

  • Limit on number of instances in RAC

    Hi,
Is there any limit on number of Oracle Instances (other than hardware resources) in RAC environment.
    Thanks
    Manmohan

In theory, no. Certainly not one that you're going to hit unless you're planning on hitting a triple digit number of nodes.
In practice, as you add nodes, the scaling factor decreases, so adding nodes gets less and less bang for the buck as you add additional nodes. Most applications (particularly those not designed with massive scale-out in mind) have various bottlenecks that tend to get more and more apparent as additional nodes are added which require more and more tuning efforts to identify and remove. So your application(s) most likely impose much lower practical caps on the number of nodes than Oracle does.

  • 2950 spanning tree issue

Here is the problem we are having , we have a 2950 hooked to a 6509 hybrid dist box with approx 90 vlans on it . We hook up a new 2950 and we get the following message, Dec 21 19:47:45.116: %SPANTREE_VLAN_SW-2-MAX_INSTANCE: Platform limit of 64 STP instances exceeded. No instance created. Ok , I know about the spanning tree issues with the 2950 only having limited PVST instances . But up at the dist side we have "manually pruned off all but 5 vlans on the trunk feeding this 2950 with the "clear trunk" command . I thought manually pruning off the vlans from the trunk would eliminate this problem , maybe i have a misunderstanding of how this works. Also the message on the 2950 complains about it only having 64 instances of spanning tree yet when you do a "show vtp status it says it supports 250 instances locally so whats up with that , 2950 running 12.1.22EA4 . So I guess I'm asking is there any way around this for the 2950 . Also in client/server mode do you have to manually prune off the vlans on both the server side and the client side ??

    Hello Glen,
I guess instead of manually pruning the VLANs off the trunk, you could also try and enable VTP pruning globally on the 6509 (set vtp pruning enable). I assume you have the 6509 configured as the VTP server (set vtp mode server) ?
I am not sure if CatOS and IOS defaults to the same VTP version, can you check this (with 'show vtp domain' for CatOS and 'show vtp status' for the IOS switch) ?
Also, in a purely IOS environment, manually pruning VLANs off a trunk requires doing that only on the server side, but with a mix of CatOS and IOS, it might have to be done on both sides, you might want to give it a try and use the 'switchport trunk allowed' command on the 2950 as well...

  • Multi-platform File Adapter

We are currently looking at the requirements for several new processes involving use of the File Adapter functionality. Our production BPM environment is RedHat Linux 4, while this particular legacy system runs on Windows 2000. The legacy system is already configured to read and write XML files into Windows file shares. Some integration processes should kick off when XML files are written to the file shares. Other processes will write XML files back into the file shares. I am looking for recommendations as to the best architectural approach to dealing with this multi-platform problem within the BPEL PM. As I see it, we have a few of options:
    1.     Utilize FTP server functionality rather than direct file access to read and write the files in a platform-independent manner.
    2.     Use some other technology to bridge between the platform-specific file directories and something less dependent on platform. For example, pick up the files from the Windows directory and write them to an AQ queue. Then feed the BPEL process from the queue.
    3.     Run BPM on multiple platforms and allow the Windows instance to handle Windows file drops while the Linux instance handles Linux file drops. Obviously there is a cost penalty here as well as complexity during deployment.
Any thoughts or experiences are welcome.
    Thank you.

Have you looked into relative path's? that would solve the issue of different OS path names.
Also, you might want to consider the deployment descriptors you can use when compiliing, you can set enviroment specific variables like paths in there.

  • FMS Limit Domain Access??

How do you limit access to FMS app instances from a certain
domain? For example, if I only want example.com/file.swf to create
an app instance and run - but if I try localhost/file.swf or
otherdomain.com/file.swf it will not? Thank you.

    Check out this file here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/pdfs/FlashMediaServer3_WhitePaper_ue_v1.pdf.
I don't know if you can limit on an application instance level, but
you can set on the server level.
Here's the relevant block from the PDF, on page 50:
    quote:
Restrict access from domains By default, a client can connect
to Flash Media Server from any domain or IP address, which can be a
security risk. You can create a whitelist of allowed domains (or a
blacklist of banned domains) to ensure that only authorized clients
can connect to your applications or services. You can add a
comma-delimited list of domains and/or IP-address blocks in the
Adaptor.xml or vHost.xml configuration files to add this level of
security. This is usually the first step in locking down your
server; it prevents malicious or unauthorized domains from freely
    accessing your applications and streams.

  • NW07 on 32 or 64 bit platform?

    Hello,
I have to install NW 07 and the Oracle DB on a Windows server.
This server is equiped with 2 quadcore processors and 10go of RAM.
Is it better to run a NW07 instance on 32 or 64 bit platform ? Oracle ?
Ths instance will load data from R/3 32bit and racle 32bit server via RFC and probably DBLinks.
    Many thanks,

    Hi,
SAP recommended to use 64 bit platform.
32-bit platforms will be desupported for productive use as of NW07

  • How do I limit the number of Operator Interface and Execution instances to one?

We have a problem in MFG.  The operator launches to instances of the operator interface and executes the same sequence.  A second scenario is where the operator is executing the sequence and then changes from the execution window back to the Sequence Display window and launches a second execution window.  We need to understand how to limit the number of executions within an instance of the Operator Interface to one.  We also need to understand how to limit the number of instances of the Operator Interface to one.

Thanks Robert - I had the same results on 4-way E420 (and slightly less for
session-less JSP). Don't you think it can be potentially useful to have some
'baseline' results to be available for some most popular hardware/JVM configurations ?
(Of course, these numbers have nothing to do with an actual application performance, but
they are useful in establishing the 'upper limit' - something like HelloWorld servlet,
HelloWorld JSP with session=false, HelloWorld JSP with sessions enabled).

  • How to limit user history reports

where can I set the maximum number of instances intended as historical reports for all users?

On page 341 of the XIR2 Admin guide :
Setting limits for folders, users, and groups
Limits allow you to delete report instances on a regular basis. You set limits to
automate regular clean-ups of old BusinessObjects Enterprise content. Limits
that you set on a folder affect all objects that are contained within the folder.
At the folder level, you can limit the number of instances that remain on the
system for each object or for each user or group; you can also limit the
number of days that an instance remains on the system for a user or group.
It will be truly benefitial if you review admin guide.
If you go to any folder properties in CMC, it'll have Limits tab, where you can set those.
Or you can set it globaly by going to CMC>Settings>Limits.
