Sparc Solaris 10 luactivate & sync -- very slow !!!
System: Sun Fire T2000 4-Core UltraSPARC T1
OS: Solaris 10 (upgrading from 6/06 to 8/07 with current Cluster Patch applied)
HDD: two internal SATA drives
Subsystems: iSCSI SANs attached virtual HDDs
* followed instructions as outlined in Solaris 10 How to Guides: Upgrading and Patching with Solaris Live Upgrade, and in various other Sun documentation
* lucreate ran without incident
* luupgrade ran without incident
* cluster patches applied without incident
* luactivate took about *13.4 hours* to run! (used+time+ command)
* init 6 took 25 minutes to restart machine
* system is booted off new boot environment
* who -r shows run level is 3
* none of startup scripts from /etc/rc3.d are running
* ps -ef | grep lu shows:
** several resync commands active (like had seen during luactivate process)
** fgrep occassionally running (had also seen this during luactivate process)
Notes:
* added extra files and directories to /etc/lu/synclist for overwriting, but only for items on original internal HDD, not on virtual HDDs.
Questions:
1) Is the 13 some hours for luactivate normal?
2) Will I have to wait another 13 hours for the system to restart and come up in normal run level 3 mode, with rc3.d scripts started?
3) Why is this process taking so long? Thought the whole idea was that it would be quicker then applying updates manually? Based on the documentation, the picture painted is that minimal downtime would be experienced.
Any insight into the excessive amount of time to perform this upgrade process is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jace
You can force the NIC to use onlu 100fdx like this: (in an RC-script or so)
(Pls. verify that the switch is able to realy leverage 100fdx. (Quite a few of the older switches can't, even if they say so)
Otherwise You may force each end to use half duplex)
ndd -set /dev/hme instance 0

ndd -set /dev/hme adv_10fdx_cap 0
ndd -set /dev/hme adv_10hdx_cap 0
ndd -set /dev/hme adv_autoneg_cap 0
or in /etc/system (for all hme instances) :
set hme:hme_adv_100fdx_cap = 1
set hme:hme_adv_100hdx_cap = 0
set hme:hme_adv_10fdx_cap = 0

Apple TV - Either Not Syncing or Syncing Very Slow
I went to use my Apple TV (latest model) and found that all of my content was no longer on there. So I reset it, re-established a link to my iMac and started a new sync. It took 14 hours to sync 1.88 GB of content. I restarted the iMac and Apple TV and it started the sync from right at the start again. I have tried resetting my Apple TV and starting a new link between the two - and the same thing - very slow. I have also noticed that it is syncing all content in iTunes and not just the content I have chosen. I have tested my wireless speed from my Time Capsule and everything looks OK.
I am also having an issue with my older Apple TV. I have it set to standby (power off), but every time I start iTunes, it comes on (but does not sync). Is this normal?
I have the latest version of OSX and iTunes.
Any thoughts?Hi.
OK - So how do I back install without loosing settings? -
Hello,
iCal has been giving me a lot of problems, when I turn it on it takes about 10 minutes for the little beach ball to stop spinning and it finally pulls up the calendars. I have 2 subscriptions and 1 publish calendars, when I do "refresh" it also takes about 5 minutes. I have about 5 calendars in total, dating back to about 2 years ago with information. I used to run this on my 3 year old PowerBook G4 12 inch laptop and it NEVER took so long, on this brand new MacBook it's been this slow.
Lastly, when I sync my iPhone, it gets slow on the CONTACTS and VERY slow when syncing CALENDARS.
Does anyone have an idea of what I can do?
Please, please, please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is really slowing down my work load.
THANK YOU for reading my post.
BruceI have downloaded all the upgrades.
I normally do that as soon as I'm notified that one is available.
Thanks for trying to help! -
Solaris 10 server(v490) very slow backup
Recently deployed Solaris 10 server(v490) into env consisting of SBU server solaris 8 (Networker 7.3). Solaris 10 system is only backing up at a rate of 125 or less Kbytes/sec. 3 other machines(solaris 8) are backing up at a rate of 17 to 20 Mb/sec. The switch that they are connected to is set to 100mbs, full duplex. When I do an "ndd -get ???", all 1's are displayed. 100hdx, 100fdx, autoneg......
Should I execute commands to make it run100fdx? If so, what are the ndd commands(if i should still use ndd)?
please email me at "[email protected]".You can force the NIC to use onlu 100fdx like this: (in an RC-script or so)

Music Selection for iPhone 4 in itunes for Sync very slow
Hi,
I'm using itunes 10.0.1.22.
- itunes Database is stored on a NAS (~12.000 files / ~170GB)
- access via WLAN
- itunes is synced with 2 iPods and 1 iphone 4
For every device, I have to select music-files for syncing due to the restricted storage.
For ipods it goes smoothly by clicking every checkbox (Album, Title, Artist...) I like and sync.
When I try to select music for my iphone, I always have to wait at least 1 minute after clicking ONE checkbox. Syncing goes quick as usual.
Deleting Sync-Progress did not help. In addition to that, I removed all the music on iphone (by disabling music option) and started a new selection. But this didn't work too.
Does anyboy have a similar problem/issue? Is there a solution or a recommondation?
If you know another topic in discussion that will solve my problem, please post the link.
thx, ndeeI am having the same problem. Only difference is that my iTunes library is stored on an external USB drive. I think the problem must be related to the library not located on the local itunes drive. I noticed that everytime I select a check-box, the external drive 'activity light' starts blinking like mad. And only when it stops does iTunes start responding again.
Did you get an answer or anything on this? It's driving me mad! -
RAZR V3i is very slow when syncing songs with iTunes
My V3i use to sync songs with iTunes pretty fast, but after updating iTunes it syncs very slow, and half the time just hangs.
Is anyone else having this issue? Any tips?
Thanks!iTunes stalls loading a mp3 on my phone when that mp3 is currently being played.

Solaris 10 on T1000 : Calculations VERY SLOW
We bought a T1000 for Web server application.
We have to resize online some images using Imagemagick.
The resizing is very very slow (on an e450 - 250MHz sparc II... 1 sec, on the T1000...nearly 2 minutes!!)
Any idea for an optimization ?
Kind regards,
ChristianThank you for your reply

Hi friends
I was having SFV 240 , it was previously sol 8 was working fine, but after solaris 10 install it is very very slow.
system configuration is

System clock frequency: 167 MHZ
Memory size: 2.50GB

any thought how to resolve it>
10 install it is very very slow. What does "slow" mean? How are you measuring it? What exactly is it that is "slow?" -
Ipod classic 160GB very slow sync and cannot connect to itunes store windows 7 ansd itunes 10.6.0.40. I have now been trying for 3 weeks to restore my iPod. Really frustrated, any ideas would be welcome.
Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

Using Outlook 2011 for mac and syncing blackberry very slow
I just bought 2 pcs of Mcabook pro. one for me and second for my cousin. we both have same office usage.i have installed office 2011. i use contacts / events / tasks of outlook and sync it with my blackberry curve. previously i was using Windows OS and i am so much used to it with its easy functionalities. Since last 15 days i have not done any work in my office as all time i am just involved in setting up one or another thing in my Macbook. i am really so much fed up and frustrated that i am thinking of switching back to Windows. i have some current issues like
Airport disconnects automatically anytime. after then i have to restart the system that is the only way. it shows as connected but i dont find my home network or internet. after restarting it works !!! it happens 4-5 times in a day...
Sync with blackberry is very slow. i do have Approx 2500 contacts / 300 tasks and 10-15 events. but it takes approx 10 times more time than i was doing with Windows.
in the blackberry desktop manager there is only one option of syncing i.e. Two way sync. what if i only want to transfer data from Macbook to Blackberry or from Blackberry to Macbook?

IDM install of weblogic on solaris t200 very slow
Folks
Has anyone installed weblogic or IDM solution on solaris T2000. The startup and responses are very slow. It takes 20 minutes to bring up the admin server and soa server with the base services starts up in over 40 minutes. Bottom line unusable.
Config:
Soalris 10
Jrockit: 1.6
Weblogic and IDM Suite latest dot 5 release
Is there something obvious we are missing.... Any suggestions recommendations???
The same config on linux is blazing but that is not our environment.....
Thanks
MILook up metalink Oracle has mentioned that there is a problem with T200 and the combination of weblogic/soa and other servers with no solution... They suggest T4000 as the starting point....

ITunes sync is very slow?
iTunes sync is very slow with several minutes of the spinning color dot. Usually happens during the last step (7) of the sync. I then discover that even though I marked to sync all photos from Aperture file, photos are not synced. iTunes seems to be getting more and more of a problem. Any thoughts?

C++ Dependencies Generation is Very Slow in Solaris 10..
Hi
We are also having Slow make dependencies problem. It is taking more than 24 hrs to make dependencies in SOLARIS 10.
OS : SOLARIS 10
C++ COmpiler: Sun Studio 10: C++ 5.7 Compiler
It is very slow when it comes to generating dependencies using 'makedepend'....
Looking for your great help...
thanks
chakraHello,
Currently I'm trying to use the CC -xM compiler option to generate dependency info for source files.
By default I think that the -xM option assumes that all the object files are in the same directory as the output file
Suppose if the object files are in a different directory than the source files then how does the -xM recoginize it??
Because when I give in my makefiel as given below, depend option works fine.
$(OBJS):%.o:%.cxx
$(CXX) -xM1 $(CFLAGS) $< > $*.P
$(CXX) $(CFLAGS) $(@F:.o=.cxx) -o $@
-include $(SRCS:.cxx=.P)
But when the object files are in a different directory as given below it does not work properly.
$(OBJS):$(OUTPUT_DIR)/%.o:%.cxx
$(CXX) -xM1 $(CFLAGS) $< > $(OUTPUT_DIR)/$*.P
$(CXX) $(CFLAGS) $(@F:.o=.cxx) -o $@
-include $(SRCS:%.cxx=$(OUTPUT_DIR)/%.P)
From what I found when -xM1 ouputs info it assumes that alll the object files are in the same directory as the source files.
When I give a "make" in the source directory it displays like this.
CEventQueue.o : CEventQueue.cxx
CEventQueue.o : CEventQueue.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcore/src//CCoQueueService.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcore/src//CCoPthreadObj.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcommon/src//CPdfObject.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcommon/src//CPdfTrace.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcommon/src//CPdfException.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcommon/src//PdfType.h
But actually it should refer the .o's like this.
../../build/CEventQueue.o : CEventQueue.cxx where ../../build is the OUTPUT_DIR.
I found that there is no CC compiler option for adding prefix to object files.
Could you tell me what to do now.??All the makefiles in our project create the .o files in a seperate directory other than the source directory.
Thanks in advance,

Ftp is very slow locally with intel solaris 8 with 98 se buffalo ( 100mps)
why? what to check? ping ok.
3 com 3c905b card installed with solaris 8 connected with linksys router.
Buffalo installed in 98 se 100 mps
cable modem with dynamic ip.
I have tried FTP in 98 SE with LINUX 6.0 RH via LINKSYS router with ver 1.37 ( 1.37 is even worser than 1.36-because the status is not refresh but itself) is ok.
but 98SE with intel solaris 8 is very slow with wu-ftp(ipswitch) 1%, then 1%....etc an hour later still 1%. I shut down the solaris try a few times, then it is ok. all connection is tight.
