Sparks between external HD usb cable and Mac Pro case
Hi all,
I just wanted to see if anyone could say how usual (or not) this was - basically I noticed that as I go to plugin a usb cable which is connected to a powered external HD, any contact between the cable connector and the metal case of the mac cause little sparks.
I haven't noticed this before, although it's possible I was just more precise with my plugging ability
I had a search but all I could find was reference to the laptops or an iMac.

It could be a problem with the power supply for the external HD. Does it have a three prong plug? If it's two-prong, try plugging it in the other way. It could be dangerous if it's a direct short from the lne input to the output in the HD power supply.

Is it OK to use a USB 2.0 connection for Glyph external drive and Mac Pro as project drive? I was told by Sweetwater tech support to use Firewire, but both the FW400 and FW800 connections crash my audio interface software mixer (Presonus' "Universal Control" software).
Both Firewire connections also create a 10 second hang for each Command-Save that I do.
USB 2.0 for the external drive seems to be working so far, but is there some reason I should be wary of using this as my go-to project drive? In other words, I am imagining that there was probably some definite reason that the tech support guy mentioned not to use it. But maybe not. It's a brand new Glyph. In any event, it's nice to have the 10 second hang eliminated, and I was just looking for some advice, since digging into the Presonus software issue could take some time.If you have a mac pro, why not stick the external HDD inside via one of your many SATA cables & have it run 9 times faster than your USB?
Or stick a HDD CADDY in your mac pro, so you can slot in a full sized 3TB HDD for recording, and when you are done, pull it out & slip it in an external enclosure if you need to take it places? -

Yes you have a one year warranty from the date of purchase from Apple. Go to this link and on the bottom right hand side it will ask you to enter your serial number and will tell you if you are still under warranty. http://www.apple.com/support/
If you are you can take it to a Apple store, or request service online here http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
If it is out of warranty you can google a third party service provider and get it serviced out of warranty. There are two that I know of that provide free diagnostic service. You only pay for shipping and they will tell you what is wrong and what it will cost to fix. They are ifixipodsfast.com and ipodmods.com but there are others also (I just have no experience with them) Good luck and as was stated it should charge from your usb. and just for grins, look at the docking connector on your ipod and see if there is any obstruction that is obvious. -
Hi, I have a problem with my ipad, I want to restore it but I can not. When I plug the ipad (off) it is not recognized by itunes, I turn the ipad, There are apple and the apple after you see the usb cable and itunes logo for just 1 minute and turns off and is no longer recognized by itunes.

IMac 27 on the USB cable and electric current passing over me.
Guys, I have touched on my iMac 27 on the USB cable and I have got an electric current passing over me. My feet were naked. When I got my shoes back the problem gone. Is this normal? Is it safe for my iMac and external devices?
hmmm, I have nothing attached on them, it is just two usb cables one for my Nikon the other for my multipad and nothing was attached on them. And I have touched by accident on the one and i have this small current passing though my hands and then i have touched on the other one to see whats happening and same result. I had just took a shower and barefoot. Then when i put my shoes on. Problem gone!

Pple 24" LED and Mac Pro usb connection problem
Hi,
I'm having issues with my Mac Pro 8 core (2008) connected to an Apple 24" LED. I have a Radeon HD 4870 graphics card installed in the Mac so I can use the Apple LED mini displayport connection. The video works perfectly fine but to use the built-in speakers and iSight in the Apple LED I have to use the USB cables and connect them to the USB sockets of the Mac Pro. This is where the problem seems to be as after a time using the Mac it crashes in a strange manner and I get a few lines of coding and the Mac shuts down on its own. I've used Dr Botts extension cables to extend to reach of the USB cables which I thought maybe the issues and taken this off and I've also unplugged any devices plugged into the extra USB sockets on the Apple LED. I think it's something to do with using the speakers as playing video seems to crash the Mac also but once I unplug the USB cables the video plays fine, but without speaker sound. Has anyone had similar problems and have any solutions?

In the attempt of updating my ipod touch, i am faced with the problem of not being able to be connected to the itunes in my computer (windows xp ) because my ipod touch got blocked up, leaving the icon of USB cable and itunes on my touch screen. I am asked to restore my ipod first, but i have tried using all the examples stated and still can't help. Please please, can some one help me out ? My new ipod 2gb nano comes with a usb cable and a little clip or stand type thing that the nano can sit in and at the bottom has a hole that the usb wire sort of fits through but it isn't made to sit on the desk, its more like a clip of something, any ideas what this is or how to use it?
The extra piece is the adapter for the Universal Dock. The dock has a well in it and there's an adapter for each size of iPod that goes into it.

Am in the process of installing ios 7.0.4 for my ipad 2 however, all I see on the screen is the USB cable and an arrow pointing to iTunes icon. It has remained so for more than 1 hour. When I put it off and switch it on again, I see the same thing appearing again. what sholud I do?

I tried to update my 4s to the latest ios6. itunes came back and said there was an unexpected error. the screen on the phone is hung showing a usb cable and an arrow pointing to the itunes icon. itunes does not see the phone as being plugged into my computer. I restarted itunes, no difference. I can't seem to reset the phone. It comes up with the apple icon and then goes back to the usb plug screen. I'm totally hosed right now!!!
Error 1604:
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

D13, thanks for these details. This an awesome clue. Are you able to connect to this Wi-Fi connection with other devices? Let's try a few steps to resolve this issue.
First, reset the network in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network and power your device off/on.
Secondly, delete the Wi-Fi connection in Settings>Select your Wi-Fi>Forget this Network and the try to connect to that Wi-Fi again.
Lastly, try creating your Wi-Fi connection. Tap Settings>Enable Wi-Fi ON. From Choose a Network, select Other. Enter the Wi-Fi network name. Select Security. Select the Wi-Fi network type then select Other Network. Enter the Wi-Fi network password then select Join

Why does my network stop recognizing my printer and telling me it is offline.
I got a photosmart 6510 printer and it loses wifi connectivity. in order to get it working again i have to toggle the wifi on and off on the printer. It only maintains a connection for a short time and i have to toggle the wifi on and off again. T
