Spatial/Georaster competitor ?

Dear contributors,
I would like to hear from the forum about what are the closest competitor of Oracle Spatial in general, and also particularly Oracle Georaster.
Other databases have also developed their support for spatial data : SQL Server 2008 (Katmai) 'spatial', IBM DB2 Spatial Extender, IBM Informix IDS Spatial DataBlade, PostGIS, Sybase-Boeing SQS, Ingres (any spatial from this?), MySQL Spatial Extensions.
For geospatial raster data, are there anything other than spatial Georaster from Oracle? Among them i found only Postgre saying that they have support for raster, but with very little to no documentation. Clues to raster support from other big names (eg. microsoft, ibm) are rather hard to find.
Probably i was not so keen in digging this other raster dbms, please point me to some info / URLs.
I need to touch this 'other soutions' topic a bit in my report. Thank you in advance.

To be honoust.
I've never understood why one would like to have for instance aerial photo's in any short transaction database (like Oracle), especially if the image covers a very large area.
Is this data going to change very often?
Take LizardTech MrSID en ER Mapper ECW formats which can handle Terabytes of data in a single compressed file. They both provide a toolkit which can be integrated in any GIS (ESRI and Smallworld have them integrated afaik, and probably o lot of others as well).

Patrick

    Ok, good stuff.

  • OWM and Spatial Georaster

    Hi all!
    I also posted in the Spatial forum because my problem is caused by OWM in combination with Georaster!
    I have the following problem:
    I get an error message if I try to versionenable a table with a Spatial Georaster column. The reason for the error is the trigger created on the Georaster column. That trigger has to be created on every Georaster column an comes along with MDSYS.sdo_geor.
    If I first try to versionenable the table and then try to create the trigger between beginnDDL() and commitDDL() procedures I also get an error message.
    Does anyone know this problem and has an answer?
    regards
    Joerg

    Hi,
    We do not currently support the type of trigger that is defined on the table for the spatial georaster column. It has a triggering event of 'INSERT or UPDATE or DELETE'. We only support row level triggers that are defined for 1 dml type.
    As such, tables with georaster columns that have these triggers defined on them, cannot currently be enable versioned.
    Regards,
    Ben

  • Can't display Georaster in Oracle Maps

    Please help!
    I'm trying to display a georaster in Oracle Maps, without success. The georasters in question display normally in PCI's Focus, eSpatial's iSMART, and MapBuilder preview, but nothing is display in Oracle Maps.
    I have copied jai_codec.jar, jai_core.jar, jai_imageio-1.1.2.jar into
    D:\APPSVR\j2ee\MapViewer\applications\MapViewer10131\web\WEB-INF\lib. I don't get any errors in mapviewer.log set to finest (appended to bottom of post).
    I'm using AS 10.1.3.1.0, MapViewer 10.1.3.1 from patch 6453515, and the 10.1.0.3.1 enterprise database.
    In Oracle Maps I have this code:
         foi = new MVThemeBasedFOI('MOSAIC2','MOSAIC2');
         this.mapview.addThemeBasedFOI(foi);
    The georaster has spatial extents:
    SQL> SELECT g.GEORASTER.spatialextent FROM MOSAICS g WHERE g.MOSAICID=2;
    GEORASTER.SPATIALEXTENT(SDO_GTYPE, SDO_SRID, SDO_POINT(X, Y, Z), SDO_ELEM_INFO,
    SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, 8307, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 1), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(-83.5357, 31.4825, -83.5357, 31.472635, -83.5357, 31.462765, -83.52891, 31.462765, -83.522115, 31.462765, -83.522115, 31.472635, -83.522115, 31.4825, -83.52891, 31.4825, -83.5357, 31.4825))
    The spatial extent is in USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA and is indexed:
    SQL> select * from USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA where TABLE_NAME='MOSAICS';
    TABLE_NAME
    COLUMN_NAME
    DIMINFO(SDO_DIMNAME, SDO_LB, SDO_UB, SDO_TOLERANCE)
    SRID
    MOSAICS
    GEORASTER.SPATIALEXTENT
    SDO_DIM_ARRAY(SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('X', -180, 180, .0005), SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Y', -90, 90, .0005))
    8307
    The georaster has metadata:

    Hi Bruce,
    for GeoRaster themes you can define a specific pyramid level to render, or you can leave the pyramid level null on the theme definition, and in this case MapViewer calculates the best level to render. The second option is recommended as it avoids loading unnecessary data given the current display parameters. If you are seeing your image get blocked, most likely at this zoom level and up you have reached the highest pyramid level of the GeoRaster. Even in MapBuilder if you keep zoom in, you get a blocked image after reaching the highest resolution level.

    Hello,
    I can't GeoRaster data in the preview of the MapBuilder and MapViewer. The GeoRasterViewer shows the Raster images without problems.

    The errror message of MapViewer is nearly the same with some more informations about the spatial query and the coordintes of the query window. If I run that spatial query in the sqldeveloper it returns a result!
    I did following stebs:
    - saved a tiff-Image in a GeoRaster table with pyramid an tiled images.
    - checked the sdo_geom_metadata --> they are correct
    - checked the sdo_georaster object for the rdt table name and rasterid --> they are correct
    - checked the rdt table --> objects with that rid are saved
    - checked the mdsys.sdo_geor_sysdata table --> entry is correct
    - validate the geraster with the sdo_geor.validategeoraster function --> object is valid
    - updated the spatial extend of the image and try again the preview functio--> the same error
    The databse server is a virtual Linux server with Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit.
    The web server is a Window 2003 R2 Server with a weblogic server and mapviewer patch 5 (Ver1033p5_B081010).
    For a test I did the same (the same table script, the same raster data, the same import method) on a developer pc (WinXP Pro SP2) with Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 (32bit) the same mapbuilder version but with the MapViewer QuickStartKid and it works fine!!!
    Has anyone an idea?

    Hi Joao,
    Thanks so far.
    I'm previewing a GeoRaster theme. I created it with the MapBuilder GeoRaster wizard. The theme difinition is (out of the export file):
    RAS_DGK|
    null|
    RAS_DGK|
    GEORASTER|
    <?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>
    <styling_rules theme_type="georaster">
    </styling_rules>|
    (GeoRaster table name is "RAS_DGK", theme name is also "RAS_DGK")
    I get following log information:

    Reengineering Desktop Thick Workgroups into Web
    Rich Enterprise Clients
    Bryan Hall, Spatial Architect, L-3 Communications
    Jeff Walawender, Senior Software Engineer, L-3 Communications
    Cost cutting requires reengineering spatial solutions to directly address business requirements. But enterprise computing for spatial data has, with even "Web 2.0", required the user to lose the responsiveness and feedback that traditional desktop thick client GIS software has provided. We took a different approach in the re-engineering effort and concentrated on making it work as much like a traditional desktop thick client - while simplifying use, making editing more reliable, and actually speeding up rendering. All this, while only supporting one versioned Oracle Spatial database, and application tier for all users.

  • Oracle Spatial 10g R2 Java API

    Hi All,
    I have a JAVA tool said to be written for Oracle Spatial 10g R2 Java API which uses for example the class oracle.spatial.georaster.JGeoRaster. I have to port it to 11g R2. The tool is definitely written for an earlier version, because compilation fails on for example JGeoRaster.getProperties() method which is not present in the new API. For this new API I have a fine Javadoc documentation here:
    http://download-llnw.oracle.com/docs/html/E11829_01/
    I have searched for a similar one for 10g R2 but found only like
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14373/toc.htm
    which misses the oracle.spatial.georaster package. Is there such a package and if so, where can I find docs for it?
    thank you in advance, best regards: Balázs Bámer

    Hi Balázs,
    the GeoRaster Java API was first released with 11gR2. Your first link points to that, or this link:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e11829/toc.htm
    your second link points to 10g Oracle Spatial Java API, which doesn't include any GeoRaster related API. your tool might have been developed based on the old INTERNAL georaster jar file, which is not supposed to be used by your java program. But if you do want the api doc, you can run javadoc or jdeveloper to find out the api from the old sdogr.jar file.

  • Georaster Raster Data Tables are not shown in SQLD 1.5 EA3 ?

    Contributors,
    I am a newbie in Oracle mainly using the Oracle Spatial GeoRaster. There is a kind of table called Georaster Raster Data Tables (RDT) in georaster feature. I wonder how to properly set the latest SQL Developer (1.5 EA3) to show georaster RDTs in the connection / objects pane (left hand side pane) ?
    My SQL Developer 1.5 EA3 does not show any RDT. Is it misconfigured ?
    Previous versions in my machine (version 1.2.1 and 1.1.3) have no problems in showing RDTs.
    My platforms are :
    * OS : MS Windows Vista Ultimate
    * Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) Enterprise/Standard Edition for Microsoft Windows 32-bit
    * JDK 1.6.0_06
    Please advise,
    =Damon
    (i have also post this in Spatial forum)

    This is just a bug.I have logged bug #7025395

    I not only posted that last response twice, I didn't run both queries you posted. Sorry. Try, try again.
    And, by the way, I'm hoping there's a script somewhere I can run to fix this?
    Also, I run two instances of Oracle. One is a production instance, and we 'hardened' it security-wise. Could this have invalidated these objects?

  • GeoRaster Loader

    Hello everybody,
    I've been spending a long time with this problem. I started use GeoRaster Loader - that demo tool provided by Oracle to load georaster objects into the bank - with a bank 10g and a client 9i. Because a problem with a program I changed the client to 10g and after this I couldn't run the GeoRaster Loader more.
    The program needs a lot of files in many locations, so I did a .bat to set the classpath and the parameters. The .bat is like this:
    set meuora=E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1
    set pacotes=%meuora%\ord\jlib\jai_codec.jar;%meuora%\ord\jlib\jai_core.jar;%meuora%\jdbc\lib\classes12.jar;%meuora%\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jar;%meuora%\rdbms\jlib\xdb.jar;%meuora%\lib\xmlparserv2.jar;%meuora%\lib\xmlcomp.jar;%meuora%\lib\xschema.jar;%meuora%\jlib\jewt4.jar;%meuora%\md\lib\sdoapi.jar;%meuora%\md\lib\sdoutl.jar;%meuora%\md\demo\georaster\java\georaster_tools.jar;%meuora%\jdbc\lib\nls_charset12.jar
    java -Xmx128M -cp %pacotes% GeoRasterLoader ldt orcl 1521 SYS XXXXX thin 32 T GEO.MAPAS IMAGEM "blocking=true blocksize=(256,256,1)" "imagem1.tif,1,GEO.mrdt_1,imagem1.tfw"
    When I run this bath file I receive this answer:

  • How to extract row number of geoRaster as number ?

    Hi all,
    I need to get the row (or similarly column and band) number of a georaster as number. Some approach that i have explored :
    (a)
    Using SDO_GEOR.getSpatialDimSizes, which return an sdo_Number_array. For example SDO_NUMBER_ARRAY(211, 725) means 211 rows by 725 columns.
    But then how to get the 211 (or 725) as a number ? Any command for extracting the value ? substring clearly helpless.
    (b)
    Using metadata extract in PL/SQL. An example is
    create or replace function dimRaster
    (gr sdo_georaster)
    return number as
    total_dim number;
    begin
    total_dim := gr.metadata.extract('/georasterMetadata/rasterInfo/totalDimensions/text()',
    'xmlns=http://xmlns.oracle.com/spatial/georaster').getNumberVal();
    dbms_output.put_line('Total dimesnion'||CHR(9)||': '||total_dim);
    return null;
    end;-----------------
    The above works fine. It extracts the value in rasterInfo>totalDimensions as NUMBER. But the following isn't working:
    dim_row number;
    dim_row_Str := gr.metadata.extract('/georasterMetadata/rasterInfo/dimensionSize type="ROW"/size/text()',
    'xmlns=http://xmlns.oracle.com/spatial/georaster').getStringVal();
    I get the following error message
    ORA-31011: XML parsing failed
    ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing
    LPX-00601: Invalid token in: '/georasterMetadata/rasterInfo/dimensionSize type="ROW"/size/text()'
    The number that i need to extract is in rasterInfo> dimensionSize type="ROW"> size.
    Please advise.
    cheers,
    =Damon

    Here is a function to do it. Since a function can only return one value, I created an object type for it.
    If this was going onto my production system, I would validate the metadata before running the procedure on a georaster object.
    Hope this helps:
    -- gr_dims object holds # rows, # columns, and # bands
    create or replace type gr_dims as object (
      r number,
      c number,
      b number);
    create or replace function georaster_size (geor sdo_georaster)
    return gr_dims deterministic is
    rowcols sdo_number_array := new sdo_number_array();
    result gr_dims := new gr_dims(null,null,null);
    begin
      rowcols.extend(3);
      rowcols  := SDO_GEOR.getSpatialDimSizes(geor);
      result.r := rowcols(1);
      result.c := rowcols(2);
      result.b := SDO_GEOR.getBandDimSize(geor);
      return result;
    end;
    select georaster_size(georaster) from map_rasters where georid=1;
    --GEORASTER_SIZE(GEORASTER)(R, C, B)
    --GR_DIMS(5117, 3748, 1)
    select g.gr.r, g.gr.c, g.gr.b
    from (select georaster_size(georaster) gr from map_rasters where georid=1) g;
    --      GR.R       GR.C       GR.B
    --      5117       3748          1

  • Java Georaster API error - wrong java version

    Hi all. I've done some searching about but cannot see this question answered (or indeed asked) anywhere else so perhaps i'm the first person to encounter it.
    I've got some georaster data from a customer in an Oracle DMP file which i've imported. It all checks out as being valid (using sdo_geor.validategeoraster) but i cannot view it in the Georaster Viewer tool. I wrote some java to extract a piece to a file but i get this error with the select command ...

    John.

    Looks like the code is explicitly checking for a specific version of Java without doing a greater than check, you'll have to trick the API
    Before you call the JGeoRaster Method, call:
    String temp = System.getProperty("java.specification.version");
    System.setProperty( "java.specification.version", "1.4.1" );
    the after call:
    System.setProperty("java.specification.version", temp);
    Alternatively, the JGeoRaster library that comes with 11g has a fix for this issue.

  • Using MapViewer to view a georaster: blue display

    Hi,
    I uploaded a tiff file into a georaster table. I followed all the steps to georeference the raster, generate the spatial extent, create the pyramids, etc.
    Then I executed the steps to make my raster ready for viewing:
    - Insert a row into the USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA
    - Create a spatial index on the spatial extent of the GeoRaster table
    Once I use 'MapViewer' all I see is a blue screen. I'm using the 'georaster.jsp' that come up with 'MapViewer' installation to view my raster. Any ideas of what could be wrong ?
    Any help is appreciated
    Jeff

    Joao,
    The log file under "c:\mypath\MapViewer\mvqs10_1_2_0_2\oc4j\j2ee\home\applications\mapviewer\web\WEB-INF\log\mapviewer.log' is indedd empty.
    1)
    To georeference the tiff, I used a .tfw file, set the SRID and generate the spatial extent:
    DECLARE
    geo SDO_GEORASTER;
    BEGIN
    SELECT GEORASTER INTO geo FROM Raster1 WHERE ID=1 FOR UPDATE;
    SDO_GEOR.IMPORTFROM(geo,'blocksize=(512,512)','TIFF','file','/export/home/oracle/large.TIFF',
    'WORLDFILE','file','/export/home/oracle/large.tfw');
    UPDATE Raster1 SET GEORASTER = geo WHERE ID=1;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    DECLARE
    geo sdo_georaster;
    BEGIN
    SELECT georaster INTO geo FROM Raster1 WHERE id=1 FOR UPDATE;
    sdo_geor.setModelSRID(geo, 32611);
    UPDATE Raster1 SET georaster = geo WHERE id=1;
    END;
    UPDATE Raster1 c
    SET c.georaster.spatialExtent = sdo_geor.generateSpatialExtent(georaster)
    WHERE c.id = 1;
    COMMIT;

  • Loading Raw Data to GeoRaster

    Hello Again,
    Anybody has been able to import RAW DATA rather than IMAGE DATA into GeoRaster. In addition to this, does your data have to conform to the GeoRaster XML Metadata structure or can you create a new one?
    Thanks.
    Adit

    the metadata must conform to the xml metadata defined by georaster.
    Oracle spatial georaster has loaders for a few types of raster data, but typically you will have to go to one of oracle's partners or write your own loader.
    You question mingles data and metadata, so I'm not sure which answer you are looking for...

  • Where are the GeoRaster PL/SQL DEMO Files

    Hello,
    I installed a Oracle 10g Database an looking now for the GeoRaster PL/SQL DEMO Files.
    The Documentation: Oracle® Spatial, GeoRaster, 10g Release 1 (10.1), Part No. B10827-01 list in Table 1-12 some example Files which should be locatet in $ORACLE_HOME/md/demos/georaster/plsql.
    Unforunatelly I couldn't find this directory on my System. I find $ORACLE_HOME/md but not the subdirectory demos. I searched my whole File-System for the example Files (georaster_demo.sql, create_georaster_table.sql ...) but got no hit.
    Does anybody knows how I can get the example Files??
    Thanks
    Udo Martin

    I found it.
    The Examples will be installed with the Oracle Database 10g Products installation.
    Thanks
