Spatial option

Which products include Oracle Spatial option?
10g express edition?
10g personal edition?
I want to develop an application that reads from such a database. I don't need the database for production - only for development / testing.

Hi uffe08,
The Spatial Option is restricted to the Enterprise Edition. It needs separate licenses though.
The Locator function is included in SE/EE. See http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/spatial/htdocs/data_sheet_9i/10g_spatial_locator_ds.html for details. Full 'Spatial' functionality may only be used on Enterprise Edition, and needs a separate license.
You can download Enterprise Edition from OTN for for the purpose of developing a single prototype of your application, and not for any other purpose. Spatial is included in this download package and can be activated.

Daniel

I already have an oracle 9i Enterprise Edition. I need to install Oracle Spatial. Is the Oracle Spatial Option in the Enterprise Edition contains the whole module or do we need to buy a separate module? How about the licensing issues?

A notable and non-obvious limitation of Locator is that the only spatial criteria you can put in a query is an index-based SDO_RELATE. You cannot do a test of geometries found via other indexes and apply SDO_GEOM.RELATE to finally check if they relate. This means I don't expect locator to be great at queries where many rows match the spatial criteria and other criteria filter the result down to just a few. Locator is great where the spatial criterion is highly relevant to the query. Eg. I wouldn't expect good performance using locator to find all the people over 100 years old in each country a database of people - I think it will necessarily use the country as the driving criterion and miss the possibility of using an index on age.
Have other people found this to be true ?

  • XE database & Spatial Option

    Is it possible to use SDO_GEOMETRY (locator) with XE edition;
    Is the spatial option available is XE edition;

SPatial option is available ONLY on Enterprise Edition.
Locator is available with all editions, including XE.
SDO_GEOMETRY is part of locator and therefore in XE.

  • Oracle Spatial Database option

    hello all,
I downloaded Oracle 9i Personal Edition for Windows 98 platform.
It is a free download @ technet.oracle.com.I have successfully installed the database.
Now i was looking for an "Oracle Spatial" option in the database.
Can anybody tell me how can i store geospatial data in the Oracle database ?
or how can i set the option "Oracle Spatial" in the database ?
I m looking forward for ur help.
    Bikram.

Try connecting as SCOTT/TIGER, then do this:
    select * from user_sdo_geom_metadata;
if the table does not exist, then spatial hasn't been installed
if it does exist, then spatial (or locator) has been installed.
If the table didn't exist, rerun the installer, choose a custom
installation, and check the Spatial box, then install.
If the table did exist, or after you install spatial, you'll want to
use the user's guide, or take the spatial course to get started.

  • Data Modeler - can't create a spatial indexes

    Good day, colleagues!
I have a 584 release of Dala Modeler.
Here is the cite from Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler Guide:
    "3.82 Spatial Definition Properties
Coordinate System ID: Oracle Spatial SRID value. ...
+Create Spatial Index: Controls whether a spatial index is created.+
Spatial Index Name: Name for the spatial index.
I have a SDO_GEOMETRY column in my table and want to create spatial index.
The problem is that there is no "Create Spatial Index" option in my Spatial Definition Properties window. There is only "Spatial Index Name" option. When I'm trying to create spatial index manually, I can't, because "Spatial" option for creating index is inactive. I've checked "Register as Spatial Table" table option, but it also didn't help.
So, I have no way to create a spatial index. How can I do it?

    Hello usamytch,
creation of spatial index is confusing. We'll improve it in next releases. Here are the steps:
    1) create index - no need to add columns
    2) create spatial column definition ("Spatial properties" in table dialog)
    3) In spatial column definition you can select your spatial column, coordinate system ID, dimensions and you can select one of existing indexes to be used as spatial one.
    4) after that index appear as spatial and you can set spatial related properties in index dialog
    5) you have to check "Register as Spatial Table" in order to get spatial meta-data generated in DDL
There are additional spatial properties you can set in physical model.

  • 10.2.0.4, Spatial and invalid objects

We don't use spatial. We have no plans to use spatial. We do use Intermedia, badly.
When I upgraded a database from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4, everything went OK, except that one object in the MDSYS schema (I can't remember its name, but it was something like SDO_GEOMETRY) was rendered 'invalid' in dba_objects afterwards.
I tried to manually re-compile it. It produced errors like 'table doesn't exist'. And I got to thinking that this was a Spatial object that was invalid because none of the other Spatial components was installed. I needed the invalid status to go away because my boss has a query that spots invalid objects and hassles me if any exist, and my attempts to say 'this one doesn't matter' weren't working.
So I used dbca to add Spatial to the database. (Added a tick to the spatial selector on the database options page). The addition went well, and at the end of it... zero invalid objects.
Problem solved, sort of. Now I have a new problem: when I ran dbca again to UNinstall Spatial, the tick against the Spatial option is greyed out and it cannot be de-selected and hence removed from my database.
And so my questions. How do you remove the Spatial stuff? Will removing it break Intermedia? Is there a better way to fix the 'invalid MDSYS object' problem caused by the 10.2.0.4 upgrade in the first place, because I have 8 other database to upgrade in the coming days? And, if the simplest thing to do is to just leave all the Spatial objects in the database, will we be in breach of our license, because we certainly haven't paid to use this feature, but we equally certainly have no use for it?

I would guess that most questions asked here could have been resolved by 'searching on Metalink first'. According to your standards and rules, then, that makes this place mostly redundant. Perhaps we should just shut the place down?
No, I'll tell you what: if you find your time being wasted, perhaps you could just not bother replying instead of pronouncing on high how those so much less exalted than yourself should behave and do things. You could have provided a metalink document number without the accompanying attitude, and then you would have my thanks and appreciation. But, for being a pompous a-s-s, you get neither.
Here's a clue. Classic Metalink. Search for '10.2.0.4 spatial errors after upgrade', All Sources. Your precious document appears only 16th in the resulting list. Yeah, I could wade through 15 irrelevant documents before stumbling over the correct one, but I figure upgrading to 10.2.0.4 can't be that rare; somebody will have encountered the problem before; quickest way to a solution is therefore probably to post here. Not, I would have thought, an entirely unreasonable train of thought, though obviously it is in your particular corner of the universe.
Besides which, whilst that document tells me how to fix the invalid objects without installing Spatial, which will certainly prove useful for all my other database upgrades, it doesn't tell me (and neither did you) how you uninstall Spatial after having installed it with dbca. That's not asking you to fill in the gaps, by the way: I wouldn't want to waste any more of your precious time.
I'm just pointing out that your "answer", as well as being pompous and arrogant, also proves itself to be deficient.

  • Spatial Installation problem

    I am new to Spatial.
    Get a problem:
    Select sdo_version from dual;
    Nothing returns.
    Then, I did
    select comp_name, status from dba_registry;
    Spatial: invalid
    Thanks for help in advance.
    L.G.

    Furthermore,
    I have a 10.1.0.3.0 box
    select comp_name, status from dba_registry;
    spatial: option off
    I guess a patching catpatch.sql setting it to "option off". Is that right? In this box, select sdo_version from dual;
    gives the right answer.
    Thanks
    L.G.

  • Oracle Spatial RDF data model and database edition

Hi: Can some one please let me know the Oracle edition that support the RDF data mdoel.
According to my understaning it is Oracle 10g Enterprsie edition, with the Spatial option. If this is true; is installing the enterprise edition will already give me the Spatial option? or do I have to isntall the Spatial data model as a seperate module. Besides this is installing the Spatial data model already give the RDF capability, or again RDF is a sepeare module that need to be installed seperately?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Rashid.

    Hi Axel,
You could use the download of Oracle 10g available on OTN at http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/semantic_technologies/index.html. This can be used free for development, but not for deployment. As long as you use it just for development during your thesis and do not deploy it in a production environment it should be OK to use the free download.
Along with the free download we recommend also using the patch (RDF specific patch for 10.2.0.1 database) that is available by clicking on 'software' on the same page.

  • Loading Spatial

    Hi,
I just loaded the spatial option for Oracle v. 9.1 and now I'm having problems getting the databases back up. We are using ArcSDE as well, and it won't start up either. The message I get when starting SDE is ORA-01033 - Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress. Well, I can sucessfully shut down the database, but when I try to start it up again, it gives the error ORA-01041: internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist.
Is there something that I did wrong when running the script for installing the spatial option?
    Melissa

The database has crashed when in startup/shutdown state so
This could really do with a check over from support as to what is
BUT there are a couple of things you can quickly do
    1) login into the computer as the oracle program owner.
    2) check you ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID are set correctly
    3) startup sqlplus
    OS> sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> connect / as sysdba
    SQL> spool sort_out.log
    SQL> shutdown abort
    SQL> startup
If the databse opens ok fine
IF not please open a service request with support

  • Help with displaying spatial data

Hi, i am new to spatial and have a table (temp_properties) that has numerous columns, one of which is called shape and is of mdsys.sdo_geometry type.
I also have a table in another database that also has a shape column the same, we cannot seem to use the shape column across the database link as we keep getting 'remote operations not permitted on object tables or user-defined type columns'
is this a known limitation or is it just the way i am trying to do it?
We would also like to be able to retrieve the coordinates in sql from this shape column, but keep getting errors.

    Hi,
before just one question : have you an column wich is called
se_anno_cad_data in your table with the shape field.
    Spatial Operator :
For example if you have polygone in your shape field
you can obtain the centroid of the polygone by this
    query:
    select c.code_topo, c.centroid.sdo_point.x as X, c.centroid.sdo_point.y as Y
    from (select e.code_topo, sdo_geom.sdo_centroid(sdo_geom.sdo_convexhull(e.geom, 0.05), 0.05) as CENTROID
    from expl_local e) c
with expl_local : my table with the sdo_geometry type field and geom the name of the sdo_geometry field
    sdo_geom.sdo_centroid and sdo_geom.sdo_convexhull are
spatial operator from Oracle Spatial Option.
    nice to read you

  • How to install spatial

HI,every one,i'm a new oracle learner and want to learn spatial, but i don't know how to install it,does it include in oracle 816 E.E or should install from other products?
    Who knows?
    Help!

Spatial is included in Oracle8i. When you installed Oracle8i, the Spatial Option was autoinstalled too. But when you create a database, you must select the spatial option, then the database will enable spatial.

  • Spatial or locator / USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA view missing on XE

    Hi,
I would like to use locator on an Oracle XE instance. I can not seem to find USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA view. Is this included in the Spatial option only? I suppose on XE i do not have to install Locator, it is installed automatically. Isn't it?
    TIA.

    Hi Tamas.
You should find your awnser here.

  • 10g Spatial Installation

    Dear List,
Our DBA told me that 10g with spatial option was installed completely. While I was able to use most of the spatial functions/operations, Oracle failed to recognize the SDO_AGGR_UNION function, which was available in my 9i database.
Is this an indication that the Spatial option installation has not been complete (may be only locator was installed)? Is there a script testing the completeness of the Spatial installation? Is there an spatial installation guide that I can point my DBA for reference?
    Thanks!
    Bo

    Hi,
You can look at dba_registry under SYS to see if Spatial
    is installed or not.
select COMP_ID, SCHEMA, VERSION, STATUS, COMP_NAME
    from dba_registry where comp_id='SDO';
This should tell you the status for Spatial.
From what you describe, it looks like only locator
    is installed.

  • Oracle Spatial in XE

It submit some sql with spatial function and it works. So xe supports spatial, doesn't it?

XE supports the spatial functions and spatial functionality that is included in the Spatial Option portion called Locator.
An Appendix of the Spatial User's Guide discusses the details of what Spatial functions are included in Locator.
Check http://docs.oracle.com and look for the Spatial User's Guide and Refererence for DB10g R2.

  • Uninstall Spatial?

Have Oracle Enterprise Edition with Spatial installed on one of our development servers. This server is being switched into production. However after completing development we have decided we do not need any Spatial functionlity just Locator functionlity. So will just be getting an Enterprise Edition license without Spatial (as we are using partitioning). Is there a way to disable the spatial functionality. Do you uninstall the Spatial option via Universal Installer or will this remove MDSYS and Locator aswell or does it just disable the Spatial components leaving the Locator and MDSYS schema unaffected. Is this safe with spatial tables and rtree indexes already in place.
    Thanks

While you have Enterprise Edition for the Partioning option I can see why you want to uninstall any of the additional Spatial options to ensure you don't deploy additional cost options to a production environment even though your production code does not use any of these options.
I had a look at the Universal Installer and it is not clear to me either whether ticking the appropriate box will leave you with only Locator or remove Locator+Spatial entirely!
So, I can't help you, other than to experiment with the installer on my database.
    I suggest:
    1. Logging a call to Oracle support asking for the approved, official method.
    2. While waiting for 1, try it on a PC which doesn't have Oracle on it to see what you get. One would think that if one has only Locator then a "Describe mdsys.sdo_geom" should tell you if you have Locator vs Spatial as Locator shouldn't have SDO_UNION and other geoprocessing functions.
Of course, in your $ORACLE_HOME there is the md/admin folder with the installation (and de-installation) scripts. But unless you had clear instructions from Oracle support on which ones to run to achieve your task one would not recommend hacking up a solution using these scripts directly.
Let us know how you go as I am interested in how to do this as well.
    regards
    S
