Spawn a Process from a Thread

Question

Is it possible to invoke a new process from a thread?
I have this structure:
MyProgram {
    someWhere() {
       MyThread myThread = new MyThread();
       myThread.start();
MyThread {
        private String cmd = null;
        public void run {
              Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
               // Doesnt seem to come here at all :(
}Now, the thread gets created and also it runs till the point it just gets to
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);it doesn't seem to execute that part of the code, and what I suspect it does is return back from the run function immediately on or before this statement is executed, back to where I started this thread at:
myThread.start();Any idea why this is happening? Or if already discussed, can any one point me out to a particulat discussion thread?

I do not see any issue in spawing the process from the thread. I am attaching the sample program for you.
Let us know which is the command which u are executing.
